That damn tie might cost the Niners a bye

That’s funny… I’ve thought, “that damn tie might cost the Packers a bye”.

I, also, agree with your 2ND part (only substitute the Packers, again) ;)

Tom-

Winning percentage is in the Pack’s favor- Niners will have one less win, even though (obviously) they have the first tie breaker in head-to-head…whatever- this one is not over yet and I truly believe the Niners don’t need the bye to win. Justin Smith will be back next week and that will make a big difference

[LF] is after all the position that is least cared about defensively. – nolie

Excuse my ignorance, but why is it like that? I mean, why is LF any different from RF? I’ve been hearing this my whole life and never understood why it is regarded as such an insignificant position defensively.

Anyone?

Got my AA (drinking) and AAA (baseball) mixed a little. Happens to the best of us. Either way… still, no need to build up alcohol (and women too for that matter) in your head to make it more than it really is. Probably why Europe doesn’t have near the alcohol issues… (or as many sexual inhibitions…)

yep, gotta start with 1 win. Dome should help, I hope, our new defense is better at home. Getting the Skins or Seahawks may help even more…

on the LF thing, shouldnt the LF still be a very good athlete and very mobile? The arm isn’t as big an issue, but more balls should be hit his way than to RF.

SNEAKY PETE

according to nolie neither position is all that demanding. the long throw is from right center, you like your right fielder to have enough range to get to as much as he can because he is running toward third in a way and the centerfielder is running away from third so the throw is better for the right fielder whenever possible. Left fielder is as straight forward as any position there is.

JC Brave, to answer your question. It has to do with the throws you have to make from Right v left field that make it tougher, but I agree….it is over rated. In Right all throws to cut someone down are to second which is same for both OF positions depending on field dimensions. The throw to 3rd to cut down a runner is obviously more difficult for RF. A play at home again, like second base, is about equal with minor differences depending on field dimensions. There is no play at first most of the time so RF has the harder throw to third And the runner in your path when making a throw to 2nd to cut down a double. Not much of a diff, but need a RF with a stronger arm!!

Most balls hit down the line to the wall are a jog over and a loopy toss back to the SS for the LFer while the RFer has the longest throw an outfielder makes to 3rd or hitting the 2B with a throw that has to be relayed. The throw to 3rd is longer than the throw to Home from the corner.

Just a song……., er,…poem before I go.
I owned this recitation on a 45 rpm when I was between the ages of about eight and ten. And I wore it out! It was voiced by Walter Brennan, so just read along in his voice.

My dad used to raise turkeys for Christmas
And about a week before he’d take ‘em into town,
He always kept the biggest one ’specially for us
And Mom would cook him to a golden brown.

One year he brought the usual batch home
Just hatched with lots of growin’ to do,
And there was one awful skinny like he put in my care
He never figured he’d pull through.

Well. I named him Henry and with a young boy’s touch
I finally got him to grow.
Now I know’d what would happen if he grow’d too much
I remember I used to tell him so,

“Henry, you’re growin’ way too fast
Dad’s got his eye on you,
And Christmas Eve is gonna be your last
Eatin’ the way you do.

‘Course, I never through about the one’s dad sold
How they’d wind up in the oven too,
‘Cause I’d seen what would happen with the one he’d choose
And what him and that ax could do.

Early one morning dad took ‘em to town
And sure enough Henry was left
And by Christmas eve the way I moped around
They all knew how bad I felt.

After supper dad left the house
And everything was quiet exceptn’ the old hall clock
It was a long, long wait (tic tock, tic tock,. tic tock, tic tock, tic)
Then we jumped straight up when the axe hit that choppin’ block.
We shot out the back door to where dad was
All of us a-runnin’ around
And dad just stood there grinnin’ at us
Then we heared a goblin sound.

No, we didn’t have turkey that Christmas day
But that was alright with us
And there weren’t a one of us
Who didn’t want ot that way.
And you know Henry had a Merry Christmas…
