Clarification in order: Tame Impala are coming to Athens (Feb 22nd), just not Atlanta.
December 20th, 201212:28 am
Teheran was on a great roll for 3 games in winter ball. I haven’t seen any further results.
Did his season end, or did he come back down to earth, or did he continue his hot streak? (or don’t you know?)
December 20th, 201212:29 am
Timmy beat me to it! And it’s already sold out? Nevermind…
On another note, I saw your post with some of your favorite albums choices Timmy. Looks like pretty solid indie rock choices… I’ve fallen out of that circle. I didn’t even know the Dirty Projectors released a new album this year!
December 20th, 201212:39 am
Addendum to my 12:28: (or did you go to bed?)
December 20th, 201212:40 am
Russell: Yeah the Tame Impala show should be awesome (unfortunately sold out) … the refurbished Georgia Theatre is definitely worth a visit … I’ve seen Cut Copy, Four Tet, Beach House, and Sleigh Bells (with Araabmuzik) there .. for me it’s nostalgia too (I was born in Athens) but it’s a trip seeing a cool show in Athens …

DOB: What are your most anticipated albums of 2013? For me, its:
A$AP Rocky: LongliveA$AP
Christopher Owens: Lysandre
Toro Y Moi: Anything in Return
Local Natives: Hummingbird\I
Unknown Mortal Orchestra: //
Iceage: You’re Nothing
STRFKR: Miracle Mile
2013 should be another great year for music …
December 20th, 201212:49 am
isn’t that over 37% like I said, even if just barely?
December 20th, 201212:52 am
Timmy – nice band selection there. Sounds like you saw some good shows… at least from what I remember about those bands from a couple years back. I really don’t listen to much music outside of metal and pysch rock these days.
A list of my favorite albums from 2012 starts with releases from High on Fire, Lord Mantis, and Blut aus Nord. Not the type of stuff most folks here would appreciate hearing
December 20th, 201212:53 am
Sorry, noles, I don’t remember your exact post – I was trusting on, old man, to know what you said.
At least, your speech, last night, about being more exact took hold, for some of us.
stick it Tom I do practice what I preach, my amount was spot on…..
December 20th, 201212:55 am
Ha,ha,ha We were a tad off on our timing.
Timmy – of your 2013 list, I’m definitely interested to hear the next Ice Age album.
December 20th, 201212:57 am
I want me some new White Snake!!!!!!
December 20th, 201212:59 am
What are your thoughts on Springsteen’s Wrecking Ball album and where would you rank it?
December 20th, 20121:00 am
DOB, the top 50 album list on here will always be greeted like the SI swimsuit issue.
there will be a few detractors but for the majority it is totally appreciated.
December 20th, 20121:02 am
speaking of white snake, have not scene b’heart in a long time.
December 20th, 20121:05 am
I Wiki’ed them after your reference Nolie. Apparently they put out an album in 2011. I had no idea they had gotten back together and were makin new music again. Probably not my thing, but I enjoy seeing old rockers get back in the saddle and proving they still got what it takes to make an album.
December 20th, 20121:07 am
by the way that is a old white snake braveheart joke that goes back to ellla guru when DOB occasionally manned the cash register there,
December 20th, 20121:08 am
Russell: Just checked out High on Fire and Blut aus Nord on Youtube … Blut aus Nord is particularly impressive .. are u into Godspeed You! Black Emporer? I’ve been meaning to check them out as well …
December 20th, 20121:10 am
Russell that is an old blog joke that I dust off every so often in memory of Braveheart.
December 20th, 20121:12 am
Russell: Iceage kind of sucked at Pitchfork Music Festival this year but they absolutely killed it at 529 in EAV … it was an incredible show …
December 20th, 20121:14 am
From what I remember of Godspeed You! Black Emporer, they are not really the type of metal I dig. That being said, I haven’t given them a shot in years, so who knows? I’d suggest giving them a shot.
You hadn’t heard High on Fire before? Doom/stoner metal at its finest. Matt Pike is the man (former front man of the legendary Doom metal band, Sleep).
Blut aus Nord have just finished an epic three album release under the ‘777′ project. The best is probably the second album that came out in 2011 (Desanctification). But the third ‘777′ album (2012’s Cosmosophy) is great as well.
December 20th, 20121:20 am
This list is solid. Listening to the Killer Mike album now. Good stuff DOB.
Great list. Listening to the Killer Mike album now. Thanks DOB.
Cool … I’m not really into metal so forgive me for my ignorance I might have to check your recommendations for the Blut aus Nord though …
December 20th, 20121:21 am
Lets make it a triple post.
December 20th, 20121:22 am
nolie, though i do think our friend N8 is actually a fan.
believe Nathan expounded white snake, disdained REM and Animal House in the same sentence and it started a very lively debate from our moderator.
December 20th, 20121:26 am
yeah I remember that Uga, actually they had a few songs I liked ok so it is not all fake on my part
i have no problem with a platoon in one or two positions but it shortens your options and bench late in the game.
December 20th, 20121:33 am
as for putting gattis in left field, i think the braves might be wise to see how he plays out there defensively in the spring before he is actually a option.
bourn was a damn good centerfielder. he covered a ton of ground in both gaps.
uga: Braveheart can be found on Facebook daily with some other former regulars around here. (not the new page they started last week, though)
December 20th, 20121:36 am
ken how are you? good to see you.
December 20th, 20121:38 am
I might have to check your recommendations for the Blut aus Nord though.
Start with the ‘777′ albums released in 2011 and 2012. Pitchfork has good write ups on the last two Blut aus Nord 777 releases as well.
December 20th, 20121:44 am
uga: I’m hanging in there. Got a couple of minor (I hope) health issues that they can’t seem to find a cause and cure, but I keep taking tests, so something will click one day.
How bout you?
December 20th, 20121:46 am
uga: Do you ever look in pawn shops for golf clubs and equipment? You can find some real deals, but it takes a lot of looking.
December 20th, 20121:49 am
all good my friend, still digging out after the tough georgia loss. hope you have a great holiday season.
still imagining the great voice calling the end of that sec championship game.
can you imagine his words during that game? i know you appreciate larry.
can you imagine his call?
December 20th, 20121:52 am
Yeah, I told several folks how I would give just about anything to hear Larry call that game and the last play especially.
December 20th, 20122:01 am
ken, i used to collect putters. had a basement full of old wilson staff 8802 and 8813 staff putters and macgregors
still have several old IMG’s. dont know if there is any value left. maybe flange could ellaborate.
December 20th, 20122:18 am
I wonder if Ward realizes this is his last night to post, but I guess we don’t know what time we are all checking out Friday, so maybe he’ll get some more in. Did the Mayans say how it’s all coming to an end?
December 20th, 20122:23 am
Did the Mayans say how it’s all coming to an end?
Nope. Just the date. We won’t even know what hit us.
December 20th, 20122:25 am
Not a bad top 50
December 20th, 20122:26 am
could get all the way through Friday right?
December 20th, 20122:30 am
Hello everyone! Screw the Mayans calender Bull-Crap. I saw Elvis too! little humor.
December 20th, 20122:36 am
b4 or after he passed away ward?
December 20th, 20122:45 am
gary’s struggles help put life in its proper prospective… Hang in their my man! I’m keeping the prayers going…
December 20th, 20122:48 am
what’s braveheart’s facebook page? that’s gotta be worth checking out
December 20th, 20122:49 am
Just making apoint. Who cares about the Mayans…. Live moves on, and I’ll be talking on Saturday too.
December 20th, 20122:51 am
jed: if I told you that, I would have to kill you, otherwise he would come after me.
December 20th, 20122:52 am
Constanza for LF/leadoff…. seen his winter stats? Dude’s a stud.
What I’ve heard is that we get to go through Friday first… the “fun” starts after 9pm. Wonder why It’s that late though, cuz it would already be the 22nd from England east.
I plan on being here the 22nd
December 20th, 20122:53 am
I was thinking, that maybe, Gattis would have a good influence on Schafer, and be a menter. Just maybe Schafer could turn it around, and be the player he was supposed to be. I would rather have Schafer in LF, than Constanza! I’m all about second chances, so I root for Schafer.
Good night, good folks (as haggard says), I want to enjoy my last full day on earth, so I need some rest to get ready for all the excitement.
Friday will be like a Michael Bay movie. Explosions everywhere.
December 20th, 20122:54 am
Don’t like Constanzas’ hot, and cold streaks……
December 20th, 20122:55 am
kenhotlanta – We will talk on Saturday, and Peace…..
December 20th, 20122:58 am
OMG, TOBF has transferred his boycrush from Bourjos to Georgie. Thankfully the Mayan’s plans will overrule such nonsense.
Ward will be Friday’s first casualty.
December 20th, 20122:59 am
Just maybe this will be the Schafer that comes to life? Wouldn’t hurt to root fior the guy.
All DOBs top50 list does is tell me that I dont listen to a lot of music… Im hopeless
December 20th, 20123:01 am
You know what, Ward? I would love to see Schafer step up like he did that week a couple of years ago before he got hurt, but it’s very doubtful.
December 20th, 20123:03 am
nah, I really dislike Georgie… Schafer too. Want a good player out in LF, one who has hit before. Cheap would be nice…
maybe this apocalypse will transform BJ into a premium player should he survive…. hah!
December 20th, 20123:09 am
Schafer… cooked, toast, crap. Dude couldnt hit at MinuteMaidPark in Houston! Sukks…
and before anyone says PB is like him, Peter had a full season of greatness. Schafer had like 2 weeks. PB has an OPS 100points higher, and an OPS+ that is 30points higher, than does Jordan Schaffeure.
Id love nothing more than to see both Schaf and Georgie kicked out of this organization. Wish that’d come in time for Christmas though, a present to the fans.
December 20th, 20123:15 am
I hope PB is the second casualty.
December 20th, 20123:19 am
Schafer, was a good player, and just maybe Gatti, and Walker can straighten him out? That would be another feel good story. Just an idea? I’am looking foward to to Gattis crush the ball in Spring Training. All, have a good one! Life moves on, and The World keeps on moving around, and around. Peace my friends, and “Go!!!!!Braves!!!!!”
December 20th, 20124:13 am
Have we signed a LF yet?
December 20th, 20125:17 am
I’ll be married before the Braves sign a proper LF…
December 20th, 20125:22 am
Let’s hope it doesn’t take THAT long, TOBF!
December 20th, 20125:38 am
JasoninFl @ 4:13 — Don’t take offense, but if you will go back and read the column connected to this blog it will answer your question. David O. covered it very well.
We need a killer left fielder. Johnson and Prado will be ok for a short while. I’d hate to see us with another McClouth. Take your time and get it right this time.
December 20th, 20125:45 am
RunninWithTheDawgs, no offense taken! I read the blog. I have also read the increased chatter that Frank is “comfortable” going into the season with the internal options. I don’t buy it. Frank knows that if he wants to compete for a World Series, he needs more than Francisco/Constanza and needs to do more than pray that Gattis is ready to hit pitching above AA. I am concerned about the increased chatter from the Olneys/Knoblers/DOBs/Bowmans/Heymans that are stating the it is increasingly likely that we start the season without making a move for LF.
December 20th, 20126:10 am
Jason — I agree 100% that we have got to have a STRONG player to fill the spot. It could and probably will make the difference in whether we make the playoffs or not. I just don’t want to see another dud. I wish we had never bought Uggla, and I’d rather see Reed Johnson in left than another McClouth. I’m happy that we have concerned sincere people who care. I gotta head out to work. Later
December 20th, 20126:11 am
I hope that it doesn’t take that long too Jason, that’s 8 years at least! But based on what’s happened in the past…
December 20th, 20127:19 am
Jordan Schafer is due for a breakout year and should be given every opportunity to win the LF job.
December 20th, 20127:22 am
Jordan Schafer is due for a breakout year and should be given every opportunity to win the LF job.
I am all for that…as long as it isn’t in a Braves uniform…well, at least not an Atlanta Braves uniform.
December 20th, 20127:28 am
breakout year where, in little league? Dude sukks… He’s no good without his pot and HGH. Get him out of the organization Frankie… olease!
December 20th, 20127:39 am
Guys, I’m not Catholic or anything, but confession is good for the soul, and with the end of the world coming tomorrow, I just thought it might be good for each of us to publicly confess on the blog the worst thing we have ever done. Ever.
nolie, you go first.
December 20th, 20128:08 am
i once put a cat in a freezer when i was like 4
December 20th, 20128:10 am
Enter your comments herebut you have to remember the timeframe before you call peta on me, all the references on tv at that time were about cool cats and i wanted to see what all the fuss was about.
when my mom opened the freezer a couple hours later and the cat jumped out , i knew then………lol
December 20th, 20128:15 am
Jordan Schafer has been tearing the cover off the ball in the simulated games.
December 20th, 20128:16 am
I don’t know where to start.
I prefer to keep my deep dark secrets of the past…in the past
December 20th, 20128:18 am
…should the world actually not end, airing my dirty laundry would not be good for me
December 20th, 20128:19 am
I keep reading that the Braves are still looking for a left fielder/leadoff. Looks like most of the positive options are gone. Who’s left that they are considering?
December 20th, 20128:32 am
worst? Probably cursing and taking a swing at (with my hands) an umpire…
…when I was 12.
December 20th, 20128:37 am
Have to be trade, Steve. It’s a pretty competitive market out there, and our trading chips are not many unless you want to empty out the starting pitching. We’ve already said no more free agents, essentially. So I don’t know.what the answer will be. BTW, while Juan Francisco seems to cause despair on here, I looked up the performances in the second half last year, when he started getting more playing time. He didn’t compare that badly against major league pitchers, and compared pretty favorably to Ross, McCann and Michael Bourn, whose bat disappeared. He has talent, has always been thought of as having potential to be an everyday player, both on the Reds and the Braves. I’m not sure opening the season with he and Gattis and what we have is the end of the world. We don’t really know what the man can do until we see him play on a daily basis.
Heyward, J .266 .330 .461 .791

DOB – Mark Knopfler?
December 20th, 20128:53 am
Fowler and…..uh Dexter Fowler.
December 20th, 20128:59 am
Disgusted: Unless you are just joking about Bobby Womack and, to a lesser extent, Iris DeMent, you are just showing your musical ignorance, so what’s your point?
I haven’t heard of a lot of the artists on his list either, but that doesn’t mean they are not deserving. I usually take the time to at least check out the ‘unknown to me’ artists on You Tube and see what they are about. (Except for Rap and Hip Hop, but that’s a personal choice).
@Ken hotlanta — If the music does not make the top 40 or even the top 100 its not worth listening to in my book — very BUMB.
Who the heck ever heard of Tame Impala. I do not like Blues because its a lot of screaming and Jazz pretty much puts me to sleep.
December 20th, 20129:01 am
Bourn, M .225 .325 .311 .636
these are numbers that me think hime being gone is not a bad thing and also why he is truly having a tough time finding a home for a 18-20 million a year contract, last years 2nd half were warning signs on the guy!!
If a trade doesn’t come off this week, one can pretty well shut down the plausible rumor mill for this off-season.
Wren will move on to offering arb eligible guys and other housekeeping chores, letting the current trade offers continue to cook. Maybe something breaks after the fiscal cliff.
December 20th, 20129:03 am
My vote is for Gattis to be the LF — Hope is is what they think he is.
Would prefer not to have a platoon.
Bottom line is that it looks like payroll is going down a bit instead of holding steady
That was not what we thought it would be. The sky is not falling this yr but it will be in the near future — simple math tells you that.
Our roll stays flat while other teams go up. In 3 yrs we will be a bottom ten payroll. Wait and see.
December 20th, 20129:05 am
last years 2nd half were warning signs on the guy!!
Considering it’s the only bad second-half in his entire career, why would you consider that a warning sign instead of what it actually is, an outlier?
December 20th, 20129:06 am
Want to improve this team is trade A Dan Uggla to the Cubs For Alfonso Soriano. Put Martin back at 2b.
December 20th, 20129:15 am
Bill James, 2013 Projections:
Julio Teheran, 7-9, 4.23
Randall Delgado, 7-9, 4.20
Tim Hudson, 12-9, 3.36
Paul Maholm, 10-12, 4.00
Kris Medlen, 14-7, 2.94
Mike Minor, 11-10, 3.76
Brandon Beachey, 5-3, 3.09
That’s 66 wins. Last year we had 24 bullpen victories. That’s 90 wins.
December 20th, 20129:16 am
ncscoots in 2008 he hit .229 with an ops of .588 for the entire year, so thats an outlier as well I guess come on I know you have some kind of hate for me and like to think I am a fraud but you may be surprised that I am truly who I say I am and not just a guy hiding behind an IP…are you on the facebook page?
December 20th, 20129:17 am
Thanks for the info, Gary inBham.
December 20th, 20129:34 am
in 2008 he hit .229 with an ops of .588 for the entire year, so thats an outlier as well
Well, let’s see…he’s had four straight seasons since then that sure make it look as if that’s irrelevant information. You think he’s the same player he was in 2008, or the guy he’s been for four straight years?
BTW, I don’t hate anyone here. I do tend to point out inconsistencies, failures of logic, and plain damn lies from posters, occasionally.
December 20th, 20129:39 am
I’m serious. RT @RealTalkingChop: A Scenario For Bourn To Return To The Braves http://sbn.to/WrDAok
Unlikely to happen,, but we shouldn’t even consider it… we’d lose our pick in the 30 range, wouldn’t pick until 75.
December 20th, 20129:41 am
Here’s where the scenario of Bourn returning to the Braves starts to make sense (seriously, stay with me on this). If the Braves are willing to lose that draft pick in the compensation round and Bourn is willing to agree to a one-year deal between $7 and $10 million, then they could write into the contract that the Braves wouldn’t offer Bourn arbitration next year — making him a free agent at age 31 — and any team could sign him without losing a draft pick. Carlos Beltran had this written into his contract, and the Giants could not offer him arbitration after the 2011 season.
December 20th, 20129:46 am
Statistics cannot fully predict any particular year a player can have, only what they might have in the light of past performance. The point of the second half stats I posted was not to say anything about Michael Bourn except he did not have a good second half. He is an excellent player, and if money were not such an issue with our team, we’d have him back in a minute. But we don’t. My point was that Francisco hit ML pitching decently enough last year to be considered for 3B or a platoon and he was in the ballpark with our team. Outliers can be positive as well as negative–for Michael Bourn, Evan Gattis, and even Juan Francisco. Bottom line–we don’t know if this collection of people we now have will get to playoffs or not. They have the talent. On paper, the team has a few questions, but Upton is a good addition and it is hard to predict what we’ll see. It may not be the dire disaster some see. We are not likely to get to the World Series, but stranger things have happened. We have some great young players just coming into their own.
ncscoots, didn’t see your comments as hating. Stats are tricky business.
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
