DOB

Teheran was on a great roll for 3 games in winter ball. I haven’t seen any further results.

Did his season end, or did he come back down to earth, or did he continue his hot streak? (or don’t you know?)

Timmy beat me to it! And it’s already sold out? Nevermind…

On another note, I saw your post with some of your favorite albums choices Timmy. Looks like pretty solid indie rock choices… I’ve fallen out of that circle. I didn’t even know the Dirty Projectors released a new album this year!

Russell: Yeah the Tame Impala show should be awesome (unfortunately sold out) … the refurbished Georgia Theatre is definitely worth a visit … I’ve seen Cut Copy, Four Tet, Beach House, and Sleigh Bells (with Araabmuzik) there .. for me it’s nostalgia too (I was born in Athens) but it’s a trip seeing a cool show in Athens …

Timmy – nice band selection there. Sounds like you saw some good shows… at least from what I remember about those bands from a couple years back. I really don’t listen to much music outside of metal and pysch rock these days.

A list of my favorite albums from 2012 starts with releases from High on Fire, Lord Mantis, and Blut aus Nord. Not the type of stuff most folks here would appreciate hearing ;)

From what I remember of Godspeed You! Black Emporer, they are not really the type of metal I dig. That being said, I haven’t given them a shot in years, so who knows? I’d suggest giving them a shot.

You hadn’t heard High on Fire before? Doom/stoner metal at its finest. Matt Pike is the man (former front man of the legendary Doom metal band, Sleep).

Blut aus Nord have just finished an epic three album release under the ‘777′ project. The best is probably the second album that came out in 2011 (Desanctification). But the third ‘777′ album (2012’s Cosmosophy) is great as well.

JasoninFl @ 4:13 — Don’t take offense, but if you will go back and read the column connected to this blog it will answer your question. David O. covered it very well.

We need a killer left fielder. Johnson and Prado will be ok for a short while. I’d hate to see us with another McClouth. Take your time and get it right this time.

JasonInFL

5:45 am

RunninWithTheDawgs, no offense taken! I read the blog. I have also read the increased chatter that Frank is “comfortable” going into the season with the internal options. I don’t buy it. Frank knows that if he wants to compete for a World Series, he needs more than Francisco/Constanza and needs to do more than pray that Gattis is ready to hit pitching above AA. I am concerned about the increased chatter from the Olneys/Knoblers/DOBs/Bowmans/Heymans that are stating the it is increasingly likely that we start the season without making a move for LF.

RunninWithTheDawgs

Have to be trade, Steve. It’s a pretty competitive market out there, and our trading chips are not many unless you want to empty out the starting pitching. We’ve already said no more free agents, essentially. So I don’t know.what the answer will be. BTW, while Juan Francisco seems to cause despair on here, I looked up the performances in the second half last year, when he started getting more playing time. He didn’t compare that badly against major league pitchers, and compared pretty favorably to Ross, McCann and Michael Bourn, whose bat disappeared. He has talent, has always been thought of as having potential to be an everyday player, both on the Reds and the Braves. I’m not sure opening the season with he and Gattis and what we have is the end of the world. We don’t really know what the man can do until we see him play on a daily basis.

I haven’t heard of a lot of the artists on his list either, but that doesn’t mean they are not deserving. I usually take the time to at least check out the ‘unknown to me’ artists on You Tube and see what they are about. (Except for Rap and Hip Hop, but that’s a personal choice).

Bottom line is that it looks like payroll is going down a bit instead of holding steady

That was not what we thought it would be. The sky is not falling this yr but it will be in the near future — simple math tells you that.

I’m serious. RT @RealTalkingChop: A Scenario For Bourn To Return To The Braves http://sbn.to/WrDAok

Unlikely to happen,, but we shouldn’t even consider it… we’d lose our pick in the 30 range, wouldn’t pick until 75.

TheOnlyBravesFan

December 20th, 2012
9:41 am

Here’s where the scenario of Bourn returning to the Braves starts to make sense (seriously, stay with me on this). If the Braves are willing to lose that draft pick in the compensation round and Bourn is willing to agree to a one-year deal between $7 and $10 million, then they could write into the contract that the Braves wouldn’t offer Bourn arbitration next year — making him a free agent at age 31 — and any team could sign him without losing a draft pick. Carlos Beltran had this written into his contract, and the Giants could not offer him arbitration after the 2011 season.

GaryinBham

December 20th, 2012

Statistics cannot fully predict any particular year a player can have, only what they might have in the light of past performance. The point of the second half stats I posted was not to say anything about Michael Bourn except he did not have a good second half. He is an excellent player, and if money were not such an issue with our team, we’d have him back in a minute. But we don’t. My point was that Francisco hit ML pitching decently enough last year to be considered for 3B or a platoon and he was in the ballpark with our team. Outliers can be positive as well as negative–for Michael Bourn, Evan Gattis, and even Juan Francisco. Bottom line–we don’t know if this collection of people we now have will get to playoffs or not. They have the talent. On paper, the team has a few questions, but Upton is a good addition and it is hard to predict what we’ll see. It may not be the dire disaster some see. We are not likely to get to the World Series, but stranger things have happened. We have some great young players just coming into their own.

ncscoots, didn’t see your comments as hating. Stats are tricky business.
