I would be surprised if Hudson is resigned after this year, seems they have too many other possibilities. They will need more money to keep other players here who are needed more like Prado and possibly McCann.

We couldn’t win one playoff game last year. Didn’t make the playoffs the year before. Chipper and Bourn are gone. McCann will miss part of the year and won’t be re-signed. Adding Upton is not nearly enough to make up for those losses. Maholm and Hudson could be gone at the end of the year and the Teheran and/or Delgado may be traded. This team is not nearly as solid as you homers think it is. It isn’t a bad team but there is a lot of work to be done.

@CB you are correct, most likely is Prado gets signed for 5 years and Mccann gets 4 years at 15 mil a piece, but only if Brian has a comeback season, if not his 15 mil may go to tying up JHey longterm!!

Exactly CB. Lose Hudson, Prado, Maholm, and Mac next offseason, that’s 35mil to spend. Add in the probable 5mil or so we’ll get from TV rev, that’s 40mil total. Subtract 10mil for ARB and raises, we’ve got 30mil to spend on 3 spots; 3B, LF, and C. We likely can only afford 2 of them, and LF should be a priority. If Gattis is the real deal, it sure helps a lot, otherwise, we’d need to pay Pence or someone similar 14-16mil… and then pick between Mac and Prado. Not really any room for Huddy…

TheOnlyBravesFan

December 11th, 2012
3:48 pm

But, I want to see how Hudson does first before I’d say “probably not” on an extension for him… it’s been a slow decline for the last couple years, but if he’s dependable once again, and we really need him and there are no good young options via trade, I could see 1/5.5 with an option…

Your article (and Chad’s letter) about Dale Murphy and HOF inclusion really changed my thinking about Dale’s worthiness. I am in total agreement that Rule 5 should be considered from both the positive and negative aspect. With such a convincing case presented by your article, I am requesting that YOU see to it that all HOF voters receive it. Please send it out! Your actions will make a difference.

Indeed, love all three of those acts.

By the way, anyone who argues this band or that isn’t “rock ‘n’ roll” kind of misses the point. Rock ‘n’ roll came from the blues, and there are so many tentacles and various styles associated with rock, it’s silly to try to place your own arbitrary standards on music and decide what is and isn’t close enough to what you believe to be rock. I mean, the Rolling Stones have a helluva lot more in common with Muddy Waters than they do with, say, Metallica.

I was thinking more of the Indians. What the Braves have to offer is pitching, which is really what the Indians are craving, preferably a 0-3 pitcher. Well, reasonably so… not both Teheran and Delgado, but yes, I’d move Delgado and another piece, like Gilmartin if necessary for him. He’s truly a premium player, fits perfectly in this lineup, and we’d likely get a top40 pick when he leaves. It seems like a pretty fair deal to me.

This is a shame. And I’m just as guilty as everyone on the blog. I check in to see who we may have gotten at least 20 times per day, hoping that we have spent the remaining budget dollars on a quality left fielder. It’s easy to be impatient because Wren usually moves pretty quickly. But it makes no sense to make a move just for the sake of doing so. We are taking a chance on anyone we get, so whoever that may be is going to have to produce considerably better than what we have or it would be a waste. If the guys down in the DR had not produced as well as they did, it would’ve been a lot simpler for Frank. Now he has the luxury of being in a position of strength and can take his time to make the right choice. I look forward to seeing which route he takes and have faith that he will make the best acquisition possible. Thanks to all of you for your stats, ideas and updates. Don’t know where you find all of the time to get it, but it’s appreciated here.
