“And again, if you don’t mind doing so, please explain to me why we should not ban automatic and semi-automatic weapons and high-capacity magazines and clips, or do you agree we should ban any or all of the above? (In which case, you’d certainly be going against that certain organization’s mind-numbing mantra when it comes to this and any other reasonable restrictions.)”
I’m not a gun owner but what you consider “reasonable” is not reasonable for others. Why should your definition of reasonable trump others, especially in light of the constitution?
Can you honestly say by restricting or outlawing weapons of any sort it would have a dramatic effect on an already extremely negligible number? Do you honestly believe outlawing cocaine reduces crime? I mention drugs because most violence is centered on drug use or mental health. Any number of studies show education and treatment have a much broader impact on drug use than any law. With that said, you use a mass shooting, which is undeniably rare, as an indictment on guns. It is sad those people die but changing laws that will save an utterly insignificant number of lives yet impact millions of responsible gun owners is asinine.
To save the time of the argument from no life is insignificant….In the US every year there over a one million abortions but this acceptable because in pragmatic society we make compromises and concessions based on the good of the whole. So when I say insignificant the people who die do gun violence is so small any law would likely have little impact on an already insignificant number while severely impacting enthusiast and such.
These mass shootings are what people talk about but rarely do people talk about all the cities that go years if not several decades without a mass shooting. It just does not happen that often and to use it as an argument for gun control is complete emotional response with little substance, logic or understanding of the issue.

I really don’t feel up tp talking baseball after todays events, but I did come here[ hard to stay away] and i see NO MORE BRAVE. Just wow. Ward is goofy and does not make much sense, but I don’t think he is NO MORE BRAVE.
Given Uggla’s propensity to get on base… Uggla in the 2-hole is an interesting proposition. I hadn’t thought of that. I want to chew on that idea.
December 14th, 20127:39 pm
To be a decent judge of a player one either must have been taught/ and played IE nolie, or played low class A for the Reds myself, and I can tell you that Simmons is the real deal, Heyward had adjustment problems along with injuries but still the real deal, Freeman nuff said, Prado a nice little player solid stick, but not 12 mill worth, now for wasted roster spots, and I mean WASTED Schafer, Constanza, Uggla, everyone is down on Francisco, I personally am not, I think that kid needs to play to get better.
Uggla never should have been traded for I am gonna spell this out one last time, The Atlanta Braves HAD an ALL-Star second baseman at the time Fredi’s buddy was acquired, his name…. Martin Prado, and that is how it should have stayed!
I will also say Wren was asleep on Denard Span, i could care less about vorps wops bits craps and perts, my eyes tell me who can play, want an example or comparison for Uggla? Ray Knight, simply ok against the rest of the league, but wore Atlanta’s ASS out!
December 14th, 20127:41 pm
we have kicked around Uggla in the two hole several times .265 .334 .494 .828
December 14th, 20127:42 pm
not upset with you at all Heath, we are cool bro! I just despise the fact Uggla is on this team! again, I am a team fan not a player fan!
Can’t stand his game at all, too streaky, and that nose makes me want to hurl! ONE UGLY SOB!
December 14th, 20127:45 pm
He really that good there nolie?
Wow! he is so bad everywhere else I failed to see it.
Another wasted spot, Pastornicky, Gearrin, and soon to be flop Christian Bethancourt! OVERRATED Atlanta FO Hype machine player! Nice arm but otherwise YUCK!
his nose??Really?? personally I love his game he is the grittiest best hustler on the team by a long shot.
December 14th, 20127:46 pm
along with Prado I meant to add
December 14th, 20127:50 pm
Prado is cool with me the Ultimate team player! kinda like Jerry Royster was, plays anywhere he is asked and gives 100% and never complains!
nolie, one would think hustle would produce results after awhile, in Dan’s case not so, the more he hustles the worse he gets! maybe he should become lazy and possibly forget the calender girl pinups!
December 14th, 20127:51 pm
his nose??? what in the world is so awful about his nose?
As for his game, he’s the biggest hustler on the team, don’t see why you wouldn’t like it
December 14th, 20127:54 pm
Every mass shooting is tough to take, but something about kids just makes it hurt a little bit more. I’m not a father, but it pains me to even think about stuff like that. I think that is what makes it hit people a bit more – and if I recall correctly, the UK started their gun laws near immediately after the Dunblane Primacy School massacre. Not saying that it should happen here, just saying that it heightens the concern with everyone.
Disliking a player because of his nose.. That’s a new one!
December 14th, 20127:57 pm
Now once again here we are faced with moving Marteeeen.
Don’t do it! leave him in LF!
I am gonna give you one name Brett Lawrie!
Francisco, Teheran, Bethancourt and EOF , for Lawrie, and Gose!
December 14th, 20127:58 pm
Not really sounds like Rudolph.
Yeah it looks like a ski slope heading into a turdpile!
December 14th, 20127:59 pm
I’d still like the Braves to acquire an above average LF that can hit #2 with Prado hitting lead off. Stay away from the Ben Revere’s of the world for Left Field for crying out loud. Revere is okay for CF because of his defense, but only if the team has plenty of other sock.
December 14th, 20128:02 pm
I’d still like the Braves to acquire an above average LF that can hit #2 with Prado hitting lead of
Anaheim has one of those guys…
Uggla, the bad nose, hustlair
December 14th, 20128:04 pm
The nose knows.
December 14th, 20128:05 pm
December 14th, 20128:07 pm
Now that line-up would get some attention!
December 14th, 20128:10 pm
Outta here, Nite all.
December 14th, 20128:15 pm
Mets get Travis d’Arnaud for one year of R.A. Dickey and I think the Baseball nation ISN’T valuing prospects enough. Insane trade by AA, if so.
December 14th, 20128:16 pm
All I can say is, I lived in England for about 6 months, they had one shooting while I was there. They have really restrictive gun laws. Q.E.D. Now, they don’t have the 2nd amendment (or the 1st amendment), but even the 1st amendment has reasonable restrictions–can’t yell “fire” in a crowded theater, for instance. So, there is a clear case for reasonable restrictions on guns in this country, and it would start with banning non-sportsman/self-defense weapons.
And that’s all I’m a-gonna say bout that. Other than, being a father of 2 small kids, I am just feeling those parents’ and people’s pain. I cannot imagine the agony of that situation. Or rather, I can– and it would be excruciating.
December 14th, 20128:19 pm
how did jack the ripper kill most of his victims?
December 14th, 20128:46 pm
Efrim – I agree. That is crazy by the Jays unless Dickey has agreed to an extension. Even then, I do not know if I would make that trade
December 14th, 20128:51 pm
Top Prospect Alert @MinorLeagueBlog
#Braves Juan Francisco has blasted his 8th Home Run of the Dominican Winter League Season
December 14th, 20128:52 pm
Any thoughts on the newJason Aldean album DOB? I think it is solid and for those that like Aldean they will really like this album. Wonder what Chipper thinks?
Juan helping his trade value…
December 14th, 20128:54 pm
Constanza has had some great seasons in Winter ball too…
December 14th, 20128:58 pm
Just a question here but would anybody be willing to trade a non-top tier prospect for Soriano knowing we would only pay $10 million for 2 years while keeping our top prospects?
December 14th, 20129:00 pm
I am surprised the Yankees did not ask about Francisco for 3B/dh
December 14th, 20129:37 pm
brian, I think I’d prefer trying the dreaded internal options to Soriano.
December 14th, 20129:38 pm
Constanza is the future…
December 14th, 20129:47 pm
I hope some team gets Bourjos soon so TOBF can move on to his next obsession.
December 14th, 20129:52 pm
Any thoughts on the newJason Aldean album DOB? — brian
Sorry, not my thing.
As for hard, traditional country, I love the Marty Stuart album, Nashville, Vol. 1: Tear the Woodpile Down. One of my favorites of the year.
December 14th, 20129:58 pm
I’ll have to check that out. Thanks
December 14th, 20129:59 pm
So would I Brava
December 14th, 201210:09 pm
So MLBTR is quoting DOB about the Braves and Trumbo being linked… So what’s the story DOB?
December 14th, 201210:11 pm
Sorry TOBF, I have to agree with some of the others. Just say no to Bourjos.
December 14th, 201210:25 pm
We signed Pena….
December 14th, 201210:34 pm
nice to see the trusted name on traderumors.
I am not sure how we can match up with the Angels. I don’t know if they will trade Trumbo for Delgado and I know that we will not trade Delgado for Bourjos.
We would be Earl Weaver’s dream team if we did get Trumbo though – it could easily be all or nothing. Lots of power but lots of strikeouts. 2012 K marks – Trumbo 153, Uggla 168, Heyward 152, Freeman 129, BJ 169. Just a ton of strikeouts
Of course Bourn had 155 which is just incredibly too many for a leadoff hitter. Bourn could have used the Willy Mays Hayes treatment during his swoon. 20 push ups for each K or pop up
December 14th, 201210:42 pm
Mike Puma @NYPost__Mets
#Mets and #BlueJays are in agreement: R.A. Dickey and Ike Davis for Travis D’Arnaud, Anthony Gose, and Adam Lind.
December 14th, 201210:47 pm
never mind, that’s fake
December 14th, 201210:53 pm
Toronto is not trading Brett Lawrie
December 14th, 201211:09 pm
Georgia southern with the Hail Mary wow
December 14th, 201211:13 pm
but still blow it
December 14th, 201211:14 pm
You guys can stop making crazy lineups. The Opening Day lineup is Simmons, Prado, Heyward, Upton, Freeman, Uggla, Francisco, Laird (McCann). That’s a terrible lineup. Its gonna be a LONG season folks.
December 14th, 201211:15 pm
Another Georgia team fails this year on national tv. This is getting old y’all.

December 14th, 201211:34 pm
Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal
Sources: D’Arnaud very much in play in Dickey talks between #BlueJays and #Mets. Deal would be bigger, multiple pieces going both ways.
Mets gonna get something good…
Nick has spoken – we must all be cloaked silence and respect his superior baseball acumen…
December 14th, 201211:36 pm
Would you guys trade Mike Minor for Mark Trumbo straight up? Obviously it would take more. Maybe Minor, Bethancourt, and Spruill.
December 14th, 201211:37 pm
December 14th, 201211:41 pm
DOB, tried submitting a comment from my mobile phone which is attached to my gmail account. Trying to figure out if it made it through and got screened out or if it just didn’t go through at all.
Braves are not going to trade Minor & Bethancourt for for Trumbo and the Angels are not going to trade Trumbo unless they are blown away with an offer…and maybe not then. They don’t really want to trade him
December 14th, 201211:43 pm
test? Sure, I just get here and there’s a test?!
I hope it’s on astronomy… I’m very spacey-minded
December 14th, 201211:44 pm
no I would not trade Minor for Trumbo and neither will the Braves
December 14th, 201211:45 pm
December 14th, 201211:46 pm
cab, since you’re out there in Cali, does Bourjos seem likely to be traded? Seems that the Angels need to move an OF…
December 14th, 201211:48 pm
Tom, wasn’t sure if I got banned or not. Tried sending a comment from my phone and it didn’t show up. They usually pop up pretty quickly. Probably just Sprint.
December 14th, 201211:49 pm
Bourjos is much more likely to be traded than Trumbo- the Angels like Trumbo much more and Bourjos has limited offensive skills- he is a better defender, but he was basically the odd man out when they brought Trout up and they are much more willing to move him. Not a big fan- he really has limited offensive abilities, but he is a premium defensive player, or close to it…
December 14th, 201211:53 pm
I noticed in the few days that I’ve posted here that the blog has been experiencing some tech-problems. Don’t know how long they’ve been going on, but it’s sometimes an adventure when trying to submit a post.
December 14th, 201211:55 pm
I’m off to bed
Good night all!
December 14th, 201211:56 pm
been going on with me for years, but has been particularly bad for several months since they changed some stuff about the blog. This thing is written in code that dates to my teens just about. IT guys are likely in their 70s…..
December 14th, 201211:57 pm
It doesn’t take me very long to put women to sleep.
December 14th, 201211:59 pm
Tom, not sure that is good or bad.
December 15th, 201212:01 am
Not your doing, Tom Just tired
December 15th, 201212:02 am
Has anyone reported it? I remember when the blog was experiencing that time-warp problem.
cabravesfan reported it to Carroll, and she told the tech-dudes.
After they thought they solved it, I let Carroll know it still wasn’t fixed. Eventually, it got corrected.
“IT guys are likely in their 70s”
This thing’s not running on punched tape is it? Geebus, but that would explain some things.

I’m boring, but liked! I can live with that.

I put my ipod on shuffle while I was getting some work done. Suddenly, a song I’ve never heard, “Robot Parade” comes on.
Weird stuff. How’d that get on my ipod?

you can quit double posting VJ. no way you can catch Brava now…..
December 15th, 201212:14 am
VJ is more of the stay-in-the-hunt-and-let-my-numbers-accumulate kind of a guy. You won’t see him win many blog-totals, but at the end of the year… he’ll be right up there.
Kind of a Don Sutton type of career

We’re all “moon crazy.” Looking forward to the trade deadline and it’s “summer of changes.”
It’s late, so “let the night shine on, and on, and on.”
