“And again, if you don’t mind doing so, please explain to me why we should not ban automatic and semi-automatic weapons and high-capacity magazines and clips, or do you agree we should ban any or all of the above? (In which case, you’d certainly be going against that certain organization’s mind-numbing mantra when it comes to this and any other reasonable restrictions.)”

I’m not a gun owner but what you consider “reasonable” is not reasonable for others. Why should your definition of reasonable trump others, especially in light of the constitution?
Can you honestly say by restricting or outlawing weapons of any sort it would have a dramatic effect on an already extremely negligible number? Do you honestly believe outlawing cocaine reduces crime? I mention drugs because most violence is centered on drug use or mental health. Any number of studies show education and treatment have a much broader impact on drug use than any law. With that said, you use a mass shooting, which is undeniably rare, as an indictment on guns. It is sad those people die but changing laws that will save an utterly insignificant number of lives yet impact millions of responsible gun owners is asinine.
To save the time of the argument from no life is insignificant….In the US every year there over a one million abortions but this acceptable because in pragmatic society we make compromises and concessions based on the good of the whole. So when I say insignificant the people who die do gun violence is so small any law would likely have little impact on an already insignificant number while severely impacting enthusiast and such.
These mass shootings are what people talk about but rarely do people talk about all the cities that go years if not several decades without a mass shooting. It just does not happen that often and to use it as an argument for gun control is complete emotional response with little substance, logic or understanding of the issue.

TOBF:

Given Uggla’s propensity to get on base… Uggla in the 2-hole is an interesting proposition. I hadn’t thought of that. I want to chew on that idea.

To be a decent judge of a player one either must have been taught/ and played IE nolie, or played low class A for the Reds myself, and I can tell you that Simmons is the real deal, Heyward had adjustment problems along with injuries but still the real deal, Freeman nuff said, Prado a nice little player solid stick, but not 12 mill worth, now for wasted roster spots, and I mean WASTED Schafer, Constanza, Uggla, everyone is down on Francisco, I personally am not, I think that kid needs to play to get better.
Uggla never should have been traded for I am gonna spell this out one last time, The Atlanta Braves HAD an ALL-Star second baseman at the time Fredi’s buddy was acquired, his name…. Martin Prado, and that is how it should have stayed!
I will also say Wren was asleep on Denard Span, i could care less about vorps wops bits craps and perts, my eyes tell me who can play, want an example or comparison for Uggla? Ray Knight, simply ok against the rest of the league, but wore Atlanta’s ASS out!

Every mass shooting is tough to take, but something about kids just makes it hurt a little bit more. I’m not a father, but it pains me to even think about stuff like that. I think that is what makes it hit people a bit more – and if I recall correctly, the UK started their gun laws near immediately after the Dunblane Primacy School massacre. Not saying that it should happen here, just saying that it heightens the concern with everyone.

I’d still like the Braves to acquire an above average LF that can hit #2 with Prado hitting lead off. Stay away from the Ben Revere’s of the world for Left Field for crying out loud. Revere is okay for CF because of his defense, but only if the team has plenty of other sock.

All I can say is, I lived in England for about 6 months, they had one shooting while I was there. They have really restrictive gun laws. Q.E.D. Now, they don’t have the 2nd amendment (or the 1st amendment), but even the 1st amendment has reasonable restrictions–can’t yell “fire” in a crowded theater, for instance. So, there is a clear case for reasonable restrictions on guns in this country, and it would start with banning non-sportsman/self-defense weapons.

And that’s all I’m a-gonna say bout that. Other than, being a father of 2 small kids, I am just feeling those parents’ and people’s pain. I cannot imagine the agony of that situation. Or rather, I can– and it would be excruciating.

I am not sure how we can match up with the Angels. I don’t know if they will trade Trumbo for Delgado and I know that we will not trade Delgado for Bourjos.

We would be Earl Weaver’s dream team if we did get Trumbo though – it could easily be all or nothing. Lots of power but lots of strikeouts. 2012 K marks – Trumbo 153, Uggla 168, Heyward 152, Freeman 129, BJ 169. Just a ton of strikeouts

Of course Bourn had 155 which is just incredibly too many for a leadoff hitter. Bourn could have used the Willy Mays Hayes treatment during his swoon. 20 push ups for each K or pop up

TOBF-

Bourjos is much more likely to be traded than Trumbo- the Angels like Trumbo much more and Bourjos has limited offensive skills- he is a better defender, but he was basically the odd man out when they brought Trout up and they are much more willing to move him. Not a big fan- he really has limited offensive abilities, but he is a premium defensive player, or close to it…
