Oh, and Wren doesn’t even know that he is required to publicly divulge evey bit of inside information he has, every move he wants to make, and what he is willing to pay for those moves. After all, theres a bunch of whiny fans that demand to know.
in 2011 Emil Bonifacio, now a Blue Jay, hit .296 for the Marlins but struckout 129 times with only 5 HRS; another free swinger in the free-swinging Braves’ lineup.
I’d take him for LF if the price wasn’t too high, but he’s far from ideal as a leadoff hitter. Maybe hitting 7th, Uggla 8th, and Simmons leadoff ?
Does anybody have any insight into the signing of Ryan Harvey? Was that move simply for depth or is it intended to be something more? Really interested in this guy, ’cause the dude absolutely raked for Lancaster in 2012.

Well, lots of information gathering I guess for Wren and co. during these meetings(and it seems every other team in the sport). I’m sure it’ll be a very busy few weeks leading up to Christmas.
I don’t see the Rays, with more quality pitching depth than the Braves and a desire to increase offensive-output after losing Upton, being interested in that deal what-so-ever.
Trades are often predicated upon other trades or signings happening first. For all we know the Braves may have three trade scenarios already agreed to by other teams depending upon if the other team signs a free agent or pulls off another trade.
With the pitching market (something the Braves have plenty of) on hold until Greinke signs other major pitching decisions are mainly on hold.

Why is Wren so occupied with picking up option on Fredi for 2014? Didn’t Bobby work on 1 yr contracts every year. Wren could have worried about Fredi before winter meetings or after. It wasn’t that big of a concern.
I like that new process much better than the Type A/B stuff. Makes much more sense.
I’m so happy the supplemental round isn’t going to be a combined two rounds length because of middle relievers being offered arbitration. Hated that. Makes so much more sense this way.
Now the question is….will the Atlanta Braves ever again have multiple early draft picks? Like, ever again?
No, not that big a concern – except to bitchy posters. It’s over and done with. NO more time needs to be spent on it more than the fve minutes or so that Wren spent making the announcement.
Let’s see – must have taken half of forever to do that option. Since Fredi was already there, Wren handed him a contract that someone handed him and Fredi signed it. Wren then told the janitor and it was all over Twitter in seconds.
scoots – Boggles, indeed. Even mopr boggling is tho think what my 93 year old dad has lived through. I can’t really know what WW II and the Great Depression were like, just like the kids today will never understand the cold war, the civil rights movement, Viet Nam times, the 3 assasinations in the 60’s, the space race, the “Brittish Invation”, etc. Boggle on.
I wonder what the reaction around the meetings would be if Wren walked into the middle of the room and announced that BMac is available… would it be like Trading Places where every GM runs over at the same time, yelling out their bids, or would a hush fall over the room as the GM’s turned in their seats to look at Wren, then shook their heads and went back to what they were doing?
If the Braves do resign Reed Johnson, could we please get the Chicago version and not the Atlanta version?
Johnson with Cubs: .302 BA, .355 OBP, .444 SLG, .799 OPS, 118 OPS+.
Johnson with ATL: .270 BA, .305 OBP, .320 SLG, .625 OPS, 69 OPS+.
Johnson will be 36 on December 8th. Have to wonder if this is a statistical aberration in a small sample size (only 100 ATL at bats, 169 CHI at bats) or the beginning of decline.
If the Braves go to playoffs and WS they won’t get early draft picks. No Braves fan would be disappointed with that.
Moreso talking about them signing free agents with draft picks tied to them. Wren has done this four times in his six offseasons with the club.
Partly because the Braves are competitive and that’s the price you pay at times, but four outta six is certainly not giving his bud DeMacio much to work with.
Even mopr boggling is tho think what my 93 year old dad has lived through.
He’s still alive? Good for him. My mother finally passed away at 92, this year. Biggest smile I ever saw on her face was the day she sent her first email.
I can pinpoint the moment the marlins fell in love with Francisco: last July, on a day game Wed., when he hit that mammoth bomb into the OF upper deck at Marlins’ Park. Juan made that park look pretty small that day.
I’d bet more than just Ruben have a trade proposal on their desk. It’s four days of information gathering following near eight weeks of information gathering for the information gathering.
There are 24 hours in the day – how long can Wren and his crew talk about trade scenarios with other teams?
scoots – Yep, Dad’s slipping a little, but he can still tell you WW II stories. I never can get any details about the time he spent in Paris after the Germans surrendered.
“Johnson will be 36 on December 8th. Have to wonder if this is a statistical aberration in a small sample size (only 100 ATL at bats, 169 CHI at bats) or the beginning of decline.”
Johnson’s .300 plus AB was done while playing for a Cubs team that was going nowhere; just pleasant, pressure-free AB’s on a second tier team. His .270 came during a playoff run, on a team fighting for a playoff spot. Which beggars a question: do we really need to chase after Johnson’s .270 when others could be had at a fraction of the cost?

Ruben Amaro probably has trade lined up already.
