There is no way we can use an internal option for LF with the market like it is for outfielders. Wren slightly overpays for Upton and then has the audacity to turn around a stick Constanza in LF? No you need to bring a quality player in to compete in this Division. We need to win the NL East not play in the WC game. MAKE IT HAPPEN

Winter Meetings 2012 = lame. I don’t even care that the Braves haven’t done anything… nobody has done anything. I look forward to this time of year almost as much as I do spring training and opening day. So far it’s been the most boring winter meeting in recent memory.

Mac is going to get a small fortune next year with even a slightly below career year. Something like .260/.340/.430 and he’s still gonna get a five year contract.
If Braves are looking for a lead off LF? I sure hope Wren, can get some thing done with Rockies than? I’m just going with the waves here. Fowler, has been tagged to the Braves.
Will that finally shut Only Braves Fan TFU about O’Flaherty? Doubtful – he’s apparently obsessive and has nothing else in life to do but post about those obsessions.
John Lackey – $15.95M
David Ortiz – $14.5M
Mike Napoli – $13M
Dustin Pedroia – $10.25M
Jon Lester – $11.625M
Jacoby Ellsbury – $8.1M
Clay Buchholz – $5.75M
Jonny Gomes – $5M
Andrew Bailey – $3.9M
Jarrod Saltalamacchia – $3.9M

Jose Iglesias – $2.06M

So they really can afford Shane Victorino at $13 million annually and probably afford another starter. Still wouldn’t nearly approach the $175 million they had last year.

Huge overpay for Victorino in my opinion… I’m stunned. I also see Justin Upton isn’t coming to Atlanta, which is upsetting. I was really hoping we could make a deal without Simmons being involved.

I don’t think you know what a golden rule is… but ok. In other words, you’re like Brick from the movie Anchorman and just throw names out at random.
I love… carpet.
I love… desk.
Brick, are you just looking at things in the office and saying that you love them?
I love lamp.
Do you really love the lamp, or are you just saying it because you saw it?
I love lamp… I love lamp.
Apparently the Four Aces pitching staff was a short lived creature. Not sure how dominant the Phillies staff will be this year with Lee gone and the Phillies hoping for 85-90% from Halladay.
Now that is weird with Justin in Philly, so that means we might have to look at Ichiro or somebody else, since the LF list is drying up and prices is going up as well.
Braves got their new Boscan — they signed catcher Matt Pagnozzi, 30, to a minor league deal. He’ll be Laird’s backup till McCann is ready.
Pagnozzi has spent a decade in minors, with a few cups of coffee in bigs with St. Louis, Colorado, Pittsburgh. Has .310 average with .364 OBP, 1 homer in 83 plate appearances in 33 major league games.
He’s a .220 career hitter with a .300 OBP, 26 homers and 225 RBIs in more than 2100 ABs and 703 games in minors.
Pagnozzi’s uncle, Tom, was a Gold Glove catcher for the Cardinals for a decade beginning in late ’80s.
Arizona discussing all sorts of three- and four-way deals to get shortstop.
Awright! This is the kind of thing Murph’s looking for!
Lemme see…going eight-way, Lee off the deep rail, Upton in the side pocket. Two teams end up with half the players they traded to start with, and the commissioner voids the deal due to confusion. I like it. Winter meetings at its best.
Yea, if the Phils make that move they could be a great deal more competitive. Beats me why they would just get rid of Lee with sending money. They must think that Upton will hit 30 hrs a year with a .900 ops. I’m sure that’s what the Braves are hoping for with our Upton. If the Nats improve, which seems like a possibility with the signing of Haren, then the Braves are going to be fighting for second with the Phils. Just what the Braves having going for them is that the Phils may too many holes. Their GM must not have been thinking straight when he gave Lee, Hamels, and Halladay all that money. The Braves must be gawking at the asking prices in a trade for a LF. If the BoSox really sign Victorino for nearly 38 million over 3 years, then the Braves walked away. That’s too much money for him. I wonder what Swisher’s contract is going to look like at this point. I wouldn’t mind the idea of giving Francisco getting a shot at playing third if only he could hit lefties. If the Braves can just correct his swing, then he might get better. 50 abs against them isn’t many, but then again the Braves probably know what his numbers in the minors are like. I don’t want to ever see Constanza in a lineup to be honest. Just start Juan and play Prado in LF. Constanza’s a joke. Their lineup had serious problems last year, so beats me what Wren is doing. Maybe Gattis and Francisco could share time? Beats me. There’s hope out there for them. Maybe a trade will happen in later in the offseason if prices come down. The Rocks and the Royals probably know how much the free agents want and they want to be compensated accordingly. Gotta do something though. I think dumping Hanson was a good call. Paying him 4 million to pitch in the minors wouldn’t be exactly the most fruitful experience.
If the Dbacks are taking Lee for Upton and sending Philly money wouldn’t you think we could send them Ahmed/Pastornicky, Tehran/Delgado and another piece or something and get him?
Actually, Choo is sounding better and better. He would be cheaper than three years of control with Gordon, and it gives us flexibility to bring in Gattis, Francisco, Ahmed, etc., if one of those guys really performs at a high level.
There would be a ton of PR pressure not to bench Upton or Gordon. Not so much with benching Choo if he is outperformed by someone else.
I could see the Indian’s possibly getting involved somehow with SS Cabrera,
Sure. Some third team drops a boatload of prospects on AZ for Lee, which are then shuffled off to Cleveland for Cabrera. That would work. Four-teamer, not as much fun as an eight-way, but fun enough.

Bourn is likely to get a 5 years 90 million or 6 years 102 million.

I think it makes it pretty unlikely that Gattis starts the season in Atlanta as a bench catcher, never thought that would happen anyway

Lee, Kennedy, Cahill, Miley, Bauer/Skaggs/Corbin – that’s a seriously good rotation.

Arizona discussing all sorts of three- and four-way deals to get shortstop. Upton for Cliff Lee (per @pedrogomezESPN) could just be a start.

Awright! This is the kind of thing Murph’s looking for!
Lemme see…going eight-way, Lee off the deep rail, Upton in the side pocket.
Two teams end up with half the players they traded to start with, and the commissioner voids the deal due to confusion. I like it. Winter meetings at its best.

With no team jumping to take him at a gazillion dollars per year, maybe the Braves will end up with Bourn for another year……………..

In the span of 24 hours we’ve gone from hoping for a lineup of Upton and Upton to now possibly seeing Upton vs Upton several times per season. Yikes!
At least it’s more entertaining than Hinske news.

Sure. Some third team drops a boatload of prospects on AZ for Lee, which are then shuffled off to Cleveland for Cabrera. That would work. Four-teamer, not as much fun as an eight-way, but fun enough.
