Braves and DBacks… round peg, square hole

A trade of EOF would get Lew all worked up… exactly why I would do it! Im sure e can get at least 1 good righty thrower from say the Cardinals… they have a need for lfties and have tons of good righthanders to spare. Plus, they can afford to extend him when the time comes. Look at what the Cubs got for Marshall, and that was a trade inside the division. He had just one year of control left.

I’m not advocating trading Simmons nor do I want him traded, but sometimes you have to give up a talent to fulfill a need. Are you a strong team with J Upton or with Simmons? If all things are equal then keep the talented, lower cost player. If J Upton makes this team a WS contender and you have a capable defensive SS on the team I’d say make the deal.

Janish may have a weak bat but so did the WS champion Rafael Belliard (I know it’s not that strong of an argument for Raffie only appeared in 75 games in 1995, but he was on the field in game 6.)

Although Lilly is coming back from shoulder surgery and Billingsley is likely to miss 2013 for TJ surgery. Capuano and Harang come off of the books in 2013, as does Lilly. Beckett and Billingsley after 2014. Kershaw with three more years of control through 2015.

I am amazed at how many of you are obsessed with strike-out rate. it seems to me that looking at SO without checking OB % is daft. Uggla had an OBP of .348 second only to Prado on returning players and while lower than Chipper, was tied with Bourn.

While getting on base via a hit has some benefits, such as the possibility of extra bases, walks have the advantage of increasing the opposing pitchers pitch count and getting them out of the game.

The value of at bats is far more than SO..
