I do that deal, easily. May just be 1 year of Choo, but he’d be 1 helluva player for us, and gets us back in the LF market for 2014, when there will be quite a few good options. Plus we get the draft pick when he leaves. I don’t know if you were a Willingham fan, but ‘d argue that 1yr of Choo and getthing that top40 pick is more valuable than 2yrs of a middle-aged Willingham; Teheran was a name bandied about to send back to Innesota.

I think Wren saw an “in form” Dempster as a way to put the Braves over the top in the short term view of 2012. The deal for Choo involves more of a long-term view. While I may not go so far as to say ludicrously stupid, I do believe that Teheran is too much to give up for such a one-year rental. Perhaps it would be moderately stupid.

Just a thought but it seems that Texas may have interest in moving Michael Young. He wouldn’t be a bad option if Texas eats some of that salary for this season. RH bat that hits LHP pretty well. Only one year removed from hitting .340. Plays 150 gms every year.

I get that Justin Upton is a dynamic player and a very good fit for the current ATL team, but I think the fact that we already have his brother on the team actually HURTS his chances of being signed by the Braves.
If both brothers are playing well, then everything will be peachy… But if one brother is underperforming and gets dropped in the line-up (like Uggla, McCann, etc.) or gets benched for extended periods of time for the hot hand (like Heyward a year ago), then we could potentially have TWO disgruntled players when either one is slumping.
Or what if J. Upton is having a great year in his contract year, but the Braves are [blankitty blanking]? Can they trade him away midseason without seriously [blankitty blanking] B.J.?

Wow – no was Meds and Minor are not as risky as Haren – Minor has no injury history, they were both healthy last year, and together cost less than a third of what Haren will cost Nats next year…with Meds and Minor there is only upside.

I don’t recall ever seeing Choo play so I can’t comment on that. The only thing I know is his numbers from last season. He played in 155 games which is great, his OBP appears above average from the stats I’ve found, and he had a decent BA. But it’s the 150 strike outs that concern me. I don’t like the strike out, but even if I didn’t care about the Ks, that would put 4 players in the starting lineup that had 150 or more Ks last year, with Freeman approaching that number. That’s a little excessive in my opinion.

Although the D-Backs have been aggressive in shopping Upton in Nashville, no team has stepped up to offer a frontline shortstop, tweets Bob Nightengale of USA Today.
Hopefully that means they will eventually realize they need to lower their demands or they probably will end up keeping him.

Do you think the Braves would have interest in Michael Young of the Rangers? Veteran player and historically has been a very good hitter. Coming off a down year for his standards but still hit LHP very well. If the Rangers were to eat some of the contract would the Braves get involved?

Wow – sounds like you just don’t like Minor for whatever reason, but the guy 24 and pitched better than any other starter not named Meds in the 2nd half last year. Granted, small sample size, but again, he’s 24 so I fail to see where the risk is unless you are just assuming he will regress.

Rick… Exactly. He has an elite OBP. And it’s over .400 against RHP. He slugs .500+ against righties, creating a .900+ OPS. Still has a good OBP against lefties. Hile it may be just for 1 year, I’d pay the “ludicrously stupid” price of Teheran for him.

TOBF – I think you are underestimating Meds and Minor. Yes they did have an insanely good 12 game or whatever stretch but I do not think it is unreasonable to project Medlen as a solid #2 and Minor a #3.
Aside from not throwing 100 mph, I am trying to figure out why many continue to be so down on Minor. He added velocity 90-93 on his fastball. He has a great changeup. He does have a breaking ball. He gets strikeouts. He is figuring out his command. He is young, left handed and a starter who is affordable for years to come. I hope people keep selling Minor short and he keeps proving them wrong like he did at the end of last year

Scutaro would be a solid pickup for the Cardinals. Allow them to hav Matt Carpenter and Daniel Delcalso coming off of the bench, which is really strong. Both those two can be starting infielders for a lot of teams.

According to Fangraphs, Minor averaged 90.3 mph on his fastball in 2012. I’d say his range is more 89-91mph based on that.

Smart move by the Mets… Myers is going to be a valuable asset for years to come.
Like I’ve said before, it’s not every day that the minor league player of the year comes available. I wish the Braves were chatting with the Royals to at least see what the asking price would be in terms of Braves players.
Maybe they have, though… doubtful, but maybe.

If the Mets can swing Myers, wow.He’s gonna be a beast. Myers, Stanton, Heyward, Harper… 4 ggreat stud OF in the NL east. And the Mets would have the RH, possibly more powerful “Heyward”. They will be on the rise, especially with those good hardthrowing young arms they have. Trade Dickey.

I would not trade Wil Myers for one season of R.A. Dickey. No flipping way. And I would not trade him for Jon Niese either, even though I like him as a solid mid-rotation starter. Niese sounds more likely as he is controlled for a while, I believe.

If it would help ease your mind, could just file whatever new thing I’ve written each day for past week or so under the Daily DOB tag? Would that make things less confusing for you, make you less anxious over the fact that the new story I spent hours working on yesterday — trying to find information, making calls and texting folks, then meeting with Wren before sitting down to write — was filed not under the Daily DOB tag but under a simple headline?
Or if we just remove the “Daily DOB” tag, would that make it all better for you?
Or should I just skip pursuing actual news here at the meetings and skip writing a story for the paper each day in order to do a “Daily DOB” blog so you can have a clean slate that might load faster and you want have to figure out which of the other blogs to comment under?

Georgia needs to be out the organization… no way in hell should he be our LF or even on the 25man. Nate would be a massive improvement over Canstandya and Id love to have him back. Good player when healthy, he can actually get the ball out of the infield. Better defender. Course, if we got Ate, M expecting a big time rotation upgrade

I’d view Myers, Olt, etc in a similar way. Trading a known quantity for an unknown quantity is totally risky, to the point of almost being foolish. If it doesn’t work, it could cost people their jobs. If it does work, though, you’ve got the most powerful, dynamic offense in the NL.
Sometimes you gotta take those chances, cross your fingers and toes, and hope for the best. If it fails, you move on… but if you never try, you’ll never know. And that, to me, is the definition of an epic fail….Murph

What are you guys talking about? Wren is working to add bench help not a LF or 3B. I really believe Wren has a hard time letting go of top prospects like Teheran and Delgado based on his comments, or other teams don’t value them as high as the Braves do. We really haven’t even had any legitimate or specific rumors from anyone following the Braves. Pretty damn boring so far…

Just because there are no big rumors doesn’t mean nothing is going on behind the scenes. I think the Braves will make a trade at some point, but it may not be for another couple weeks for all we know. They may wait for teams to snatch up free agents and then the picture will be a lot clearer for outfielders. For example, Choo might be a no brainer trade candidate if the Indians add Victorino.
