I would have to say that Mr. Hunter is a bit peeved.
Now, having never walked in his shoes, I can’t say I totally blame him for mouthing off now and then about all things racist, certainly not if he’s had to produce ID at gunpoint, but at some point, that kind of talk just falls on deaf ears. I feel for the guy, but if he would just start posting here, you guys could toughen him up big time with the way you rant and rave about negativity.

Maybe G Stanton (aka “Mike”) was advised by his agent to use his more “American Friendly” name…or maybe for any number of reasons. He DID decide that he wanted to use his other REAL name, in keeping with his cultural background. His preferenced…and I don’t see ANYTHING Dumb about it. My nephew, known by his middle name all his life, decided in college to start using his first name. HIS CHOICE. I don’t see the controversy…not at all.

Again, if you are biased, don’t know how to interpret data or don’t know what data matters in determining player value, you might be confused in to thinking Cabrera is the MVP.

Yes, I expect that as well because all too many voters fall in to the above category of people.
Ask front office folks which player was more valuable and you’ll get a different answer than how the vote will likely turn out. Buster Olney said as much. The folks who are used to valuating and evaluating players favor Trout. The folks enamored with the Triple Crown and whether a player and his teammates are good enough to make the playoffs favor Cabrera.

I know you are. You just don’t have that internal switch that says “Stop”, when you’ve made the point. As it would have been, at the words “…some books and magazines as well.” Instead, fully the last half of that post has absolutely nothing to do with making the case for Trout, and exists only to throw ill-advised snark at a contrary opinion. Unfortunately for her, our last name is similarly butchered to the point where I stopped correcting people years ago.

ncscoots, I’m glad you call the opinion that Cabrera is the MVP an opinion. That’s exactly what it is. Because if we are searching for an objective answer to which player is the MVP, the objective answer is Trout.
Objective doesn’t always mean it’s clear-cut. The NL MVP is not so clear-cut this year. All of the information we have suggest that it’s close and you can make an objective argument for a number of candidates. That’s not the case in the AL this season. There is an obvious choice if you are looking at it objectively. The issue is with the biases towards giving it to a player who won the Triple Crown and a player who collectively, with his teammates, were good enough to allow the team to make the playoffs (never mind considering whether the team was worse than some non-playoff teams because of divisional alignments). But if you’re honestly and objectively searching for which player was the most valuable and putting all that other stuff aside, the clear answer is Trout, and it’s really not all that close.

lots of people with non-mainstream american (!) names use american names so that people they deal with find the names easy to pronounce, all the while being aware of real unfamiliar sounding names. happens all the time, unless one lives in completely un-diversified universe. then if that person decides to go by real name for whatever reason, there’s nothing dumb about it.

A lot of adults in this world need to do some inward looking and stop hiding behind a faceless computer screen to be as mean and arrogant to others as they want on a daily basis, it’s not a healthy lifestyle. Earlier, I was all for adding Torii Hunter. But after some of the things I have heard, I am kinda thinking he is in for a big drop off in the next year or two.
I’d prefer Cody Ross over Hunter. I’d pay him 3 years and around 25 mil.

Very optimistic about Juan Francisco in ‘13, assuming he gets a chance to play. Rather than see Frank Wren spend a little bit here on a left fielder and a little bit there on a center fielder, I’d rather see him spend a lot on a center fielder, just in case Prado returns to left. Perhaps getting Reed Johnson back as an insurance policy wouldn’t hurt, though…

For those curious about Justin Upton’s home/road splits, they are pretty severe.
Upton has .307 avg., 67 homers, .389 OBP, .548 slugging (.937 OPS) in 364 games at Chase Field. In 367 road games, he has a .250 average, 41 homers, .325 OBP, .406 slugging ( .731 OPS).
In 2012, he hit .313 with a .924 OPS at home, .252 with a .670 OPS on the road.
In his career-best season in 2011, when he was 4th on the MVP ballot, he hit .333 with 20 homers, .411 OBP and .622 slugging (1.033 OPS) at home, and .246 with 11 homers, .328 OBP and .429 slugging (.757 OPS) on the road. He doesn’t have double-digit homers at any road ballpark (one homer and .293 average in 58 at-bats at Turner Field).

DOB, I really hope we hang on to both Delgado and Teheran. We would be overpaying for D Span giving up either of those guys..They still have upside, and Randall does have four good pitches, and if he can throw em for strikes….He can be a number 2 in any rotation.

Definitely a concern with Upton. Teams are probably banking on him putting it all together during his prime years, which they’ll have some control of with his current deal.

personally I think most of the posters who get ripped here are the ones who make it clear by their language and attitude that they are more interested in controversy and irritating the regulars than they are in anything else, and that their contrary opinions have that mostly in mind. There is no question but that people Like Brian D, and Since 80s among many others are looking for confrontation, they are likely to find it

As for irritating the regulars, consider Thanksgiving next week and that relative or two that, no matter what one does or says, will still get pissed about it and make everyone uncomfortable in the process.
We have a fair number of those relatives right here on the ole blog. They were born irritated. Not that there’s anything wrong with it, if you like being corrected or hearing about your flaws most every day!
