I wonder if the attitude stuff on BJ is overblown.

If he were such a problem than why are so many GM;s courting him to pay him nice $$$$$$$ for a 5 or 6 yr period.

He may have been immature in the past but he cannot be Thaaaat bad a guy if these GM’s (who have had success) are courting him.

If we get him I will sit back and root for the upside and be happy. If not well, I would understand, Its not clear cut and dry on this one.

“Butler and bourn would be great for the Braves. It will be interesting to see how Bourn ’s market shapes up”

Only way Butler would be a fit for the Braves is if the Braves trade Freeman or the DH rule comes to the NL, neither of which is happening.

I think the attitude stuff is overblown as pertains to the clubhouse, he isn’t really a cancer from what I hear, he is just a chronic underachiever who is too stubborn to change and lacks hustle at times
and GMs are interested because of his upside, they all see it and convince themselves that they are the ones who can get him straight and make him a star.
He may in fact change his approach if he matures more and become an above average player, but don’t come on here saying that is what he has been or guarantee that is what he will become..
I understand the interest in him going forward, I’m just saying that so far he has been a disappointment

“bullcrap. just how many games have you watched him play, and just how do you see his mediocre numbers as being a difference maker and his crappy defense either.”

51 HRs and 160 RBI’s over the last 2 yrs is not mediocre. Good amount of doubles too. XBH power and some speed. And a player who allegedly not reached his upside.

Could do a hell of alot worse than that. Only legit reservation is the cost and time of the contract — that is a legitimate concern for anybody.

I understand NC Braves.

You know, with BJ is right on the verge of 30/30 with 30 doubles. I know what the OBP is and the .298 OBP from last yr is a red flag to some, but if he can raise the OBP to .320, even if he hits .240-.250, so what??????

I’ll sacrifice 30 points on OBP to get the XBH and speed production that BJ can bring to the table. Bourn was what., a .355 OBP last yr. I’d trade 30 something points on that to get the above XBH power.

BJ does have the tools to play a decent CF defense — mixed reviews on what I read about his defensive game.

Hey, remember realy in Andruw’s career there were some Braves fans who thought he was an underachiever? Maybe they expected Ken Griffey Jr., and that was too much. Andrew gave us 9 fine yrs from 08 to 06.

agree with that, as a Rays fan too I have been telling myself for years each spring that this will be the year he will break out and be the star that he should be. So far it hasn’t happened.
The only thing you might say about his hitting is that he plays in one of the tougher parks to hit well in, maybe that would help if he moves away.

The Ted might not be the easiest hitters ballpark but its a pretty fair ballpark both ways with an edge to the pitcher.

So if you are a good hitter you can succeed here. Same if U are a good pitcher.

Good example is Andres Gallarraga who was a stud in Coors and gave us two very good yrs here. Had a 44 HR yr in ‘98.

We really never replaced him until La Roche developed and of course now we have Freddie. For a while first base was not a strength.

I would have liked to see how Justice would have done at the Ted — the guy we never should have moved. Will never know.

Of course its too much $$$$$$$$$$ and yrs too. 7 @ 175 for a soon to be 32 yr old Hamilton who has had durability and serious substance problems ——— that is high risk for anyone including a mega market baseball crazed section of the country like New England.

Perhaps RS Nation can absorb that in case of a mistake but I don’t know about Seattle.

I don’t think any more than 4, max 5 yrs makes sense. Just my old gut feeling uninformed two cents.

Nobody has to make Uggla out to be anything. He’s done that all by himself. Anyone who thinks otherwise about his poor ass performance is merely fooling themselves. Cannot say I can argue with that post — Ross was more than a back up and we know what its going to be like the first month pr month plus of the yr.

I do think you are a little harsh on Mc Cann — I will give him more of the benefit of the doubt.

Its getting to the point where you are going to be paying 2 plus to 3 mil for a decent sub this day in time.

I hate replacing Ross with Laird — Laird has bif shoes to fill. And its not like Liberty Medicority isstarving for money — they CAN afford it. Chump change in basebal terms.

Dexter — There are some fans who think that Wren can package a deal of Teheran/Delgado and whatver for a Span, Willingham or both for that matter.

As I see it realisticly, as a community of fans, we are overvaluing what our tradable prospects are worth.

Minnesota needs pitching for sure, but the 3 tradables — Hanson (second half struggles), Teheran ( really fallen back this past yr) and Delgado (solid mid rotatin upside but unproven), all have questions.

And no way we are going to get the world for the Gattis, Salcedo and Nick Ahmed (improving) types we have to offer.

Disgusted

November 17th, 2012

Dexter —- I do agree with you about Teheran who was overhyped and not getting any better.

Delgado is a guy we are better off hangin on to for the back of the rotation.

It will be a challenge for Frank to make a trade for a good option.

On Mc Cann I will take a wait and see. If he flops well, that is more $$$$$$$$$$ available in the pot for next yr. I might or might not be a mistake to pick up the option. Don;t know yet.

If Minnesota is serious about shopping those guys they should get more than what we can offer.

I’ll say that I would not be surprised of one of those guys (Schafer or Francisco) is in the lineup on opening day. Possibly both.

Schafer in CF ———- that is not out of the realm of probability regardless of what they are saying now.

It’s weird reading so many calling out this, Dexter Morgan dude, but not seeing his posts. Apparently, DOB has been reading his blog, too.

Jake W., I tend to dislike ND as much as the next Southerner, but I actually like this team. They run the ball and play defense, and are fast. Look a lot like an SEC team this year.

‘Course I’m hoping USC pounds them into the turf next week, UGA wins out, Florida beats FL State, and we have a UGA-Florida National Championship Game. Now that would be fun!

Took a leave from the blog for a couple months… good to see nothing’s changed here! :)

uga – All those 3 wood second shots pose a problem for me from the tips. Can’t reach hold the green. I gotta get flange’s workout video.

Florida beat Florida State

UGA vs UF wouldnt be a bad title game though…. 2 really good football teams that play defense and can run the ball.

A Florida State vs UGA Nat’l Championship game would be good… really long odds though
