These CF free agent candidates all have warts. I’d go the trade route for both positions if possible. Span and Revere seem to be the first logical choices.

I have scoured the outfield ranks and have found a few names that might fit for corner outfielders. Maybe a platoon? Tyler Colvin, Nolan Reimold, Brennan Boesch and Tyler Moore might be potentials. Unless we spring for Willingham, Upton or Hamilton.

Yeah, I hope Gattis is a legitimate prospect, ready for the big show. I’d much prefer to see the Braves promote and acquire young talent vs. overpaying millions for fading (or faded) dinosaurs. The problem is Wren has a propensity to put all his eggs in one basket while leaving some holes in the bottom. Normally the kids struggle for a couple of years, and sometimes they just flat out can’t do the job like Pastornicky. Jobs need to be earned in competition, not awarded by default, and there always needs to be a plan B. With the team in need of multiple plan A parts, all we can do is wait and hope.

Some baseball insiders don’t think the Mets will be able to sign Wright. They need to pay him more than Santana is getting.

4. Michael Bourn, OF — The best center fielder on the market should get a lot of attention from the Braves (Scott Boras tells me not to rule them out), Nationals, Phillies, and perhaps even Red Sox if they part company with Jacoby Ellsbury.

I never think of Ellsbury as a possibility, but maybe that’s because he is a free agent at the end of 2013 and a Boras client – this, we’re stuck in nearly the same situation.

Here’s my predicted lineup with the new additions and until McCann gets back …

1. Shane Victorino CF
2. Martin Prado 3B
3. Jason Heyward RF
4. Freddie Freeman 1B
5. Dan Uggla 2B
6. Cody Ross LF
7. David Ross C
8. Andrelton Simmons SS

I think Shane Victorino and Cody Ross will be the two gets by Wren. It’s been stated he doesn’t want to spend a lot on just one player, but probably get two players with the money that just one would get. Both Victorino and Ross fit the mold and it will leave Braves enough money to shore up the bench and bullpen.

Bobby, I haven’t tried that. Some of the time I leave a TV on at a very low volume.

Truthfully though I usually just fall asleep anyway. Lucky that way, I guess.

I do not describe what I hear as ringing. Maybe this is familiar, maybe not…….

Outdoors at dusk, close to an area with a lot of trees, underbrush, maybe some water…….. It’s quite then all of a sudden it’s loud, grasshoppers, crickets, tree frogs, cicadas, whatever…… All that

Sometime it’s really loud, sometimes not so much, every once in a while it stops all together. When it does, and I notice, its really nice.

BFChris28

November 4th, 2012
10:14 am

I hope Braves do get Shane Victorino. I don’t see Bourn coming back whatsoever, I mean I would like to have him back, but honestly do not see it. The reason I like Victorino is because while he may not be THE answer, he brings a lot to the table. He brings intangibles such as being a gritty player, firey personality and he’s a switch hitter who can lead off. He’s the type that can put pressure on other teams defense when he’s on base.

As for Cody Ross, I’d like him, but only if any other option isn’t available. I just think Ross is the type in Wren’s MO. If Ross is gotten as the LF, it wouldn’t be the most horrible thing as he brings intangibles as well, like Victorino does, but the difference between Victorino and Ross is that Victorino is the ideal replacement for Bourn, whereas Ross would be like plan D or E instead of being an ideal pick for LF.

TheOnlyBravesFan

November 4th, 2012

I’ve said before, getting Greinke would not not mean having constanza on the roster…. I don’t even want him on the 25 man!

We can create up to 35-38 mil in salary space. If we gave 20 mil to Greinke, thats 15mil left for LF and CF. And with a weak FA market, I doubt all 15 mil would be spent. Trade for Willingham or Pence (unlikely for Pence though) or sign Ross at about 8 mil a year. Get a defensive minded CF.

Stay away from Victorino if his bat speed is a question. And I’m not sure I’d want him in CF

OnlyBRaves -= Yeah, let’s dump everyone we can possibly dump who makes more than $3 mil a year to get to that level of money available. Really Freaking Stupid way to do bsiness. Really Freaking Stupid to tear down a 94 win team with two openings just so you can bring in people who make absolutely no sense for the Braves.

And Peter Freaking Bourjos? We already have four similar players who can play good defense and can’t hit worth a damn. Why do we need another? Especially one who would cost prospects better ytilized in other ways that might actually benefit the Braves.

CB

I don’t get this slowed down bat speed crap with Vicxtorino. I’m not all that invested in signing him, but the Guy is only 31 and has had ONE subpar season. Really Freaking Stupid to tear down a 94 win team with two openings just so you can bring in people who make absolutely no sense for the Braves.

I’m looking ahead to an opening that’ll be needed next year. With no FA SP that looks good, and our farm system not all that strong for trades, I’m looking to get a good SP this winter. He’s probably the best to hit the market in the last 5-6 years (outside of Lee)

As for dumping every player possible… I’m not doing that. Hanson is as good as gone. That’s about 4mil right there. If we were to sign Greinke, what’s the need for Maholm? To be a 6mil more expensive version of Minor? No. He’d be traded as well, plus we can get a prospect back. Who knows, maybe we package him and Hanson and can get an outfielder.

I just created an extra 10mil in salary space, got a frontline SP for my rotation (cuz it’s needed this year… if it’s not, then why would it be a need next season?), possibly got an outfielder. If not, I’ve got 10mil to spend.

And Peter Freaking Bourjos? We already have four similar players who can play good defense and can’t hit worth a damn. Why do we need another? Especially one who would cost prospects better ytilized in other ways that might actually benefit the Braves.

Salcedo for Bourjos isn’t a huge cost…. Plus, I’m not convinced that he’s not a hitter. Better stats than Bourn thru age 25. Scouts believe that he can hit. I’d rather have him (a great defender, near Bourn’s level) out in CF than overpay for Pagan/Victorino etc.

Lew

November 4th, 2012

If Bourjos could be had for Salcedo, then that’s all the more reason we wouldn’t want him.

And Grienke isn’t coming to Atlanta. Thankfully.

Bourjos would be an intriguing pickup. But would the Angels really surrender him for Butterfingers Salcedo?
Plus, overpaying for Pagan doesn’t carry the same cost as overpaying for Bourn. I think Wren makes a play for Pagan.

I’m with Lew on Greinke.

Dude is a flake (no offense, but he just ain’t all there) and even though he has a lot of talent, he isn’t worth what he’ll be commanding in a contract. If I were to fork out a contract that he’d be getting, I’d want some kind of guarantee or at least a sense it’d be worth it. I just don’t see it, kinda like with Bourn. Now if Greinke is signed, I wouldn’t be mad, it’d be a nice get based on talent alone, but not for an over extravagant amount.

On a different note, I am watching the Astros uniform unveiling, so my thought provoking topic of the day is … what do you guys and gals think of them and with them moving to the AL West, what are your thoughts on the new era of baseball coming next year starting with the change in the inter league schedule because of the move?

And when I said “Dude is a flake” I mean Greinke is. Just clarifying it.
