Wayne – but the key was you typededed Sabean, not Saban…Giants GM vs Bama coach…
November 4th, 201212:18 am
These CF free agent candidates all have warts. I’d go the trade route for both positions if possible. Span and Revere seem to be the first logical choices.
I have scoured the outfield ranks and have found a few names that might fit for corner outfielders. Maybe a platoon? Tyler Colvin, Nolan Reimold, Brennan Boesch and Tyler Moore might be potentials. Unless we spring for Willingham, Upton or Hamilton.
November 4th, 201212:21 am
Just quoting what I saw on TV moments ago – I am rooting for a tie in the Electoral College and then the House of Reps, and then a co-presidency, between 2 fine Americans…
November 4th, 201212:27 am
Petrino was the worst ever… No others come close.
Where would allow a 17yr old to vote? I’m just 2 months too young I so want to vote!
November 4th, 201212:29 am
Apparently my side is more generous in our assessment…
November 4th, 201212:30 am
Time to sign off, so I can get my congested head extra hours of sleep with the time change…
November 4th, 201212:38 am
LOL I could go there bu
November 4th, 201212:39 am
Hope you get to feeling better. I’ve been suffering with a head cold myself. No fun four shore.
November 4th, 201212:41 am
That was strange….
I could go there but I doubt my decisionwould be popular. Couldn’t wear my shirt for a certain candidate either
November 4th, 201212:47 am
tater. did you sweat for one moment?
November 4th, 201212:48 am
You’re cracking me up, Wayne.
November 4th, 201212:51 am
bat, did you go to georgia?
November 4th, 201212:56 am

uga, F’ you.
November 4th, 20121:16 am
I’m certain you’ll claim innocence, in which you may even believe, but your 12:18 was bait. No other purpose. Well done.
November 4th, 20121:21 am
Yeah, I hope Gattis is a legitimate prospect, ready for the big show. I’d much prefer to see the Braves promote and acquire young talent vs. overpaying millions for fading (or faded) dinosaurs. The problem is Wren has a propensity to put all his eggs in one basket while leaving some holes in the bottom. Normally the kids struggle for a couple of years, and sometimes they just flat out can’t do the job like Pastornicky. Jobs need to be earned in competition, not awarded by default, and there always needs to be a plan B. With the team in need of multiple plan A parts, all we can do is wait and hope.
November 4th, 20121:23 am
Who’s dancing? Sure as heck ain’t me.
Beat Auburn and see what happens

November 4th, 20121:26 am
“I think I have been very restrained.”
So does he. So do I. So does everybody. (And that all may be true.)
But, that ain’t the pledge. The pledge is to STFU, regardless of what anybody else does, who starts it, etc.
I know this sounds harsher than I intend, Bat. Paste my apology to Efrim, here.
November 4th, 20121:27 am
bat, exactly. go down to auburn. win. and line up with bama.
dont laugh, but mcarron is a statue back there and i think we have more then a chance.
November 4th, 20121:30 am
BAS, that old crowe dark bourbon will betray you. never drink the cheap stuff.
November 4th, 20121:31 am
You. The dancing fool. The preacher with no flock. You might be the rightest of the right, the leader of all leaders, but I can promise you this: nobody here cares; nobody here is looking to be converted. If the cause were as true and as necessary as you’d have us believe, you’d be somewhere making a difference, not talking to seven cats who couldn’t care any less.
But, F’ all that. Honor your commitment.
November 4th, 20121:33 am
Nah, no need, BAS.
You are correct.
What’s up old timers?
November 4th, 20121:34 am
“would allow digs at the right”
To wit: if my fellow man does wrong, I am then entitled to do wrong.
What a country, what a world this would be if we all believed in such a principle.
November 4th, 20121:35 am
uga, I think we could have beat bama tonight.
“What’s up old timers?”
F’ you. (Is that everybody?)
Oh, wait. Murph, I hope your four year old does… something…
November 4th, 20121:37 am
BAS is giving you good advice, Wayne.
Go volunteer, make a few thousand phone calls, knock on some doors.
That’s what I do. Then most of the time people say, thanks.
November 4th, 20121:40 am
If Georgia shows up in the first quarter they just might have a chance.
November 4th, 20121:41 am
Same to you BAS. In fact GFY instead.
And what makes you think that I don’t??? But heck, most everybody around here are on my side.
But please, go see the film. If you truly are saying that thinking for ones self is important, you owe it to yourself to see it. And if you do so with an open mind, well a lot of things might make sense.
November 4th, 20121:45 am
Okay, good deal, Wayne.
Advocate away. Do your best. That’s all any of us can do.
November 4th, 20121:47 am
so let us talk about premium players?
I have. And, I may. I kindly ask that you read a few posts before you comment, so that you may understand the context of a reply. Or not.
November 4th, 20121:48 am
Which I am more than willing to accept. Bat, we’ve been friends for a long time. I hold back 95% of the time I am on here. Some days, I get depressed as hell. I have one of the worst cases of tinnitus that my ear specialist has ever seen. It keeps me up too damned often. And sometimes, when I am not feeling well (got a damned head cold to beat the band), all this piles up and I’ll be damned if I’m going to suppress myself.
But I will apologize to those that are offended. I won’t apologize for anything I have said though. Does that compute?
November 4th, 20121:51 am
how about the salary that JS draws,
November 4th, 20121:54 am
“dark bourbon will betray you”
How so, brother? I know the hangover is worse. Any other differences? I mean, outside of severely premature death, I’m too cheap to switch, but what’ve you got?
And, I can’t talk “premium players” ’cause I’d bet my left testicle we ain’t gettin’ any… (Well, maybe I’d need odds…)
Sorry Steve if I have offended your sensitivities. There are nights I care and other nights I could care less. Tonight is one of those nights.
November 4th, 20121:55 am
getting chippy. let it go wayne.
“how about the salary that JS draws”
LOL, uga. I see you working…
November 4th, 20121:57 am
“getting” chippy? Hell, I’ve been chippy for sometime now.
November 4th, 20121:59 am
On a baseball note, I don’t think we’ll see any premium acquisitions either. Unless we have a deal out there for Headley or David Wright. Otherwise, no premium folks available in our price range.
November 4th, 20122:03 am
This might be the Braves year to make a serious run at Cody Ross.
November 4th, 20122:04 am
“or David Wright”
Is it wrong (ok, I know it’s wrong), I briefly considered trading my left testicle for David Wright?
My next thought: I’d again need odds. But then: if I was the owner: left ball for David Wright and cash? I’m considering…
I mean, guys live with a half sack, right? They procreate, even.
David Wright and the Philly Ball Girl Team?
November 4th, 20122:07 am
I’d deal yours, Frank Wren’s and my left nut along with a bounty of prospects for David Wright. He’s exactly the sort of bat we need in this lineup.
I’d even be tempted to include Martin Prado in that deal.
November 4th, 20122:09 am
I know a little about tinnitus, Wayne. It sucks. Right now it sounds like I’m sitting outdoors,in a wooded area at sunset. It’s quite in my house but it’s loud in my head.
November 4th, 20122:13 am
Sorry to hear that. It’s worse when I’m not feeling well. You just want things to get quiet so you can concentrate on feeling better, or go to sleep.
I have to turn the stereo up so loud in my vehicle that you’d hear it a block away with the windows up for it to mask the ringing.
Used to be able to drive down the highway in my Jeep and not hear it. Not any more. And it seems to get louder every year.
It’s why I don’t keep a gun around the house.
November 4th, 20122:15 am
“tempted to include Martin Prado in that deal.”
Hey now. If they take my guy, then one of our three testes is stayin’. And I vote mine. Yay, me.
and the funny thing is this: some days, I can go hours without thinking about it. The brain gets busy with other things and masks it out.
November 4th, 20122:19 am
You’re gettin’ old, man. 2:00 and gone? Weak.
(he says, about to pass out at 11:30.)
Pack, F’ you again, if you still ain’t got it. C’mon, man…
nolie, vibrating bed done whooped your ass? (Act ticked off; I’m working here.)
November 4th, 20122:23 am
Yep, weird indeed. Mine fades away sometimes if it’s quite for long enough. It’s seldom that quite around me, though. I hate it for you.
November 4th, 20122:24 am
Some baseball insiders don’t think the Mets will be able to sign Wright. They need to pay him more than Santana is getting.
But if they dealt him to a team that showed him some love, he’d probably extend. And they would get more to deal him this winter than next July, if that is their direction.
We’ll see soon enough.
November 4th, 20122:27 am
All the deals discussed here and why none of the good ones will work leaves me depressed.
Not now though because I have no expectations. Whatever is gonna happen is gonna happen. Then I’ll get on board or bitch. Whichever is appropriate
Hell, if it wasn’t this, it would be something else. I could be sick with cancer or something really bad four shore. So, while I get in a pity Wayne mood sometimes, I do realize it could be worse.
But what I’d give for 1 night of silence. I’d stay awake until it came back…….
November 4th, 20122:30 am
Go ahead and send another Natl Championship trophy to Bama.
It’s fun to speculate. But FW is probably looking at some of the folks we talk about, and some we NEVER thought about. But you’re right. We just need to be patient, I guess.
But it has always been fun to speculate.
November 4th, 20122:33 am
My ears ring and I have to turn the TV up as loud as it will go and still have a hard time hearing the tones in the women’s voices.
Then there is what my brother is going through
Let’s hope not. Heck, I’ll pull for Georgia just to keep ‘Bama out of the picture.
November 4th, 20122:37 am
Mother Nature (or whomever in the government that decides the daylight savings time) is giving me an extra hour tonight. Might as well take them up on it.
Sorry to hear about your brothers issues (whatever they may be).
Guys: Sorry about offending everybody under the sun earlier. Not going to promise it will never happen again though, as I do get passionate as heck about this country!
November 4th, 20122:39 am
See ya later, Wayne

I know this sounds harsher than I intend, Bat. Paste my apology to Efrim, here.
BAS, I hope you understand why I acted the way I did. Especially given the true comments made at 6:47pmEST, June 9th, 2009…..moments after he was selected 7th overall.
November 4th, 20128:26 am
BAS,you are 100% last night with what you said. I love you, man.
November 4th, 20128:33 am
Always a good read on Sunday Morning from Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe: http://bostonglobe.com/sports/2012/11/04/baseball-free-agents-keep-eye/a4w9cbEKRO8AVLommvue9L/story.html
4. Michael Bourn, OF — The best center fielder on the market should get a lot of attention from the Braves (Scott Boras tells me not to rule them out), Nationals, Phillies, and perhaps even Red Sox if they part company with Jacoby Ellsbury.
I never think of Ellsbury as a possibility, but maybe that’s because he is a free agent at the end of 2013 and a Boras client – this, we’re stuck in nearly the same situation.
November 4th, 20128:41 am
Wow, I just looked at the blog now for the first time since late afternoon. DOB, if you don’t exert some control with the election around the corner, this blog will disintegrate. And there might be some permanent damage. Keep an eye on it, and maybe some firm instruction from you will help.
Efrim,I am scared to death Braves might make a move on Nick Swisher. Terrible mistake, imo,if it happens. I am hoping Braves can get two good young OF thru trades, may gut our farm system but we hopefully can build it back up.
November 4th, 20128:45 am
I am scared to death Braves might make a move on Nick Swisher.
CB, I’m pretty scared to death on Swisher, Upton and Bourn – because they all mean the Braves overpaid, most likely.
November 4th, 20128:51 am
Aren’t their some limitations now, as opposed to the old days, on just outright cash acquisitions of players under contract with another team? You never seem to see that much anymore. In the back of my head, I thought one of the CBAs put limits on doing that, or outlawed it. Am I dreaming, or did this happen?
November 4th, 20128:57 am
Looking into my crystal ball (might just be wrong ) …
Here’s my predicted lineup with the new additions and until McCann gets back …
1. Shane Victorino CF
2. Martin Prado 3B
3. Jason Heyward RF
4. Freddie Freeman 1B
5. Dan Uggla 2B
6. Cody Ross LF
7. David Ross C
8. Andrelton Simmons SS
I think Shane Victorino and Cody Ross will be the two gets by Wren. It’s been stated he doesn’t want to spend a lot on just one player, but probably get two players with the money that just one would get. Both Victorino and Ross fit the mold and it will leave Braves enough money to shore up the bench and bullpen.
November 4th, 20129:03 am
oregon vs, USC looked like a basketball game
It’s the PAC…. Whaddya expect? We all know that real football is only played in the SEC and ACC
November 4th, 20129:21 am
I think Shane Victorino and Cody Ross will be the two gets by Wren.
Not helping my acquisition speculation depression at all.
November 4th, 20129:29 am
My Falcons will improve to 8-0 tonight on SNF. Still the best team in the league but not much national love. Not that we need it….
Looks like we have a good shot to win all 16… 15 ain’t so bad either though
November 4th, 20129:31 am
Like all the idiots on the blog, my best idea for what to do shifts from day to day. Right now, it is
LF Justin Upton
CF Span/Revere/or similar player
November 4th, 20129:32 am
Victorino and Ross… sigh
November 4th, 20129:52 am
DS1 and/or Bat, does trying to sleep with music on help at all? _ Bobby H
Bobby, I haven’t tried that. Some of the time I leave a TV on at a very low volume.
Truthfully though I usually just fall asleep anyway. Lucky that way, I guess.
I do not describe what I hear as ringing. Maybe this is familiar, maybe not…….
Outdoors at dusk, close to an area with a lot of trees, underbrush, maybe some water…….. It’s quite then all of a sudden it’s loud, grasshoppers, crickets, tree frogs, cicadas, whatever…… All that
Sometime it’s really loud, sometimes not so much, every once in a while it stops all together. When it does, and I notice, its really nice.
November 4th, 20129:54 am
Now that Mariano Rivera is returning, Soriano is sure to be closing somewhere else in 2013. Yanks on tap to get two supplemental round draft choices for the departure of Sori and Swisher. I think Kuroda is going to accept the qual. offer and play next year out at $13.3 million.
November 4th, 20129:55 am
For all the late night political bloggers just remember what George Carlon said “it’s all bulls..t and its bad for you too”!
November 4th, 20129:59 am
Interesting night on the blog after I left last night…
Ross is not an “awful” choice, but if the Braves get him, I hope they aim higher than Victorino.
November 4th, 201210:03 am
If we end up with Victorino and Ross instead of Greinke, Bourjos and (likely) Constanza in LF), we’ll need to take up a collection for OnlyBraves aftercare program with his shrink.
November 4th, 201210:14 am
I hope Braves do get Shane Victorino. I don’t see Bourn coming back whatsoever, I mean I would like to have him back, but honestly do not see it. The reason I like Victorino is because while he may not be THE answer, he brings a lot to the table. He brings intangibles such as being a gritty player, firey personality and he’s a switch hitter who can lead off. He’s the type that can put pressure on other teams defense when he’s on base.
As for Cody Ross, I’d like him, but only if any other option isn’t available. I just think Ross is the type in Wren’s MO. If Ross is gotten as the LF, it wouldn’t be the most horrible thing as he brings intangibles as well, like Victorino does, but the difference between Victorino and Ross is that Victorino is the ideal replacement for Bourn, whereas Ross would be like plan D or E instead of being an ideal pick for LF.
I’ve said before, getting Greinke would not not mean having constanza on the roster…. I don’t even want him on the 25 man!
We can create up to 35-38 mil in salary space. If we gave 20 mil to Greinke, thats 15mil left for LF and CF. And with a weak FA market, I doubt all 15 mil would be spent. Trade for Willingham or Pence (unlikely for Pence though) or sign Ross at about 8 mil a year. Get a defensive minded CF.
Stay away from Victorino if his bat speed is a question. And I’m not sure I’d want him in CF
November 4th, 201210:15 am
Lew, a lot of us might need some counseling if those are the two choices. Yuck
November 4th, 201210:18 am
In a perfect world in which things would go as I’d want, I’d do this …
1. Shane Victorino CF
2. Prado LF
3. Heyward RF
4. Wright 3B
5. Freeman 1B
6. Uggla 2B
7. Ross C
8. Simmons SS
1. Shane Victorino CF
2. Prado 3B
3. Heyward RF
4. Hamilton LF
5. Uggla 2B
6. Freeman 1B
7. Ross C
8. Simmons SS
November 4th, 201210:20 am
Either way, I definitely want Shane Victorino. I just feel that Victorino would do a lot for Braves and would have a chip on his shoulder to show Phillies they made a mistake in trading him.
CB – I think that no matter who they bring in that at least half the people would be upset with the choices.
OnlyBRaves -= Yeah, let’s dump everyone we can possibly dump who makes more than $3 mil a year to get to that level of money available. Really Freaking Stupid way to do bsiness. Really Freaking Stupid to tear down a 94 win team with two openings just so you can bring in people who make absolutely no sense for the Braves.
And Peter Freaking Bourjos? We already have four similar players who can play good defense and can’t hit worth a damn. Why do we need another? Especially one who would cost prospects better ytilized in other ways that might actually benefit the Braves.
November 4th, 201210:22 am
My guess as to who Wren acquires for the outfield slots: Willingham and Pagan, two names oft bandied about on these pages. Not saying that’s optimum, but I think that’s feasible the Braves.
November 4th, 201210:23 am
These two would satisfy me, Brett Gardner and Mark Trumbo. Young players with still a lot of upside, both still cost effective and leaves some money for SP if Braves wanted to go that route.
TheOnlyBravesFan, Greinke no come to Atlanta… except on a road trip.
I don’t get this slowed down bat speed crap with Vicxtorino. I’m not all that invested in signing him, but the Guy is only 31 and has had ONE subpar season. He’s not old and apparently not injured, so just how much could his bat spped have slowed. Seriously. Maybe he just had a poor year that was influenced by a less than stellar atmosphere in Philly while he was still there last year.
November 4th, 201210:25 am
Here’s my ideal bench for next year …
1. David Ross
2. Reed Johnson
3. Paul Janish
4. Ernesto Mejia
5. Jeff Keppinger (or someone of his ilk)
November 4th, 201210:34 am
I’m looking ahead to an opening that’ll be needed next year. With no FA SP that looks good, and our farm system not all that strong for trades, I’m looking to get a good SP this winter. He’s probably the best to hit the market in the last 5-6 years (outside of Lee)
As for dumping every player possible… I’m not doing that. Hanson is as good as gone. That’s about 4mil right there. If we were to sign Greinke, what’s the need for Maholm? To be a 6mil more expensive version of Minor? No. He’d be traded as well, plus we can get a prospect back. Who knows, maybe we package him and Hanson and can get an outfielder.
I just created an extra 10mil in salary space, got a frontline SP for my rotation (cuz it’s needed this year… if it’s not, then why would it be a need next season?), possibly got an outfielder. If not, I’ve got 10mil to spend.
Salcedo for Bourjos isn’t a huge cost…. Plus, I’m not convinced that he’s not a hitter. Better stats than Bourn thru age 25. Scouts believe that he can hit. I’d rather have him (a great defender, near Bourn’s level) out in CF than overpay for Pagan/Victorino etc.
November 4th, 201210:37 am
If Bourjos could be had for Salcedo, then that’s all the more reason we wouldn’t want him.
And Grienke isn’t coming to Atlanta. Thankfully.
November 4th, 201210:40 am
Bourjos would be an intriguing pickup. But would the Angels really surrender him for Butterfingers Salcedo?
Plus, overpaying for Pagan doesn’t carry the same cost as overpaying for Bourn. I think Wren makes a play for Pagan.
November 4th, 201210:44 am
I’m with Lew on Greinke.
Dude is a flake (no offense, but he just ain’t all there) and even though he has a lot of talent, he isn’t worth what he’ll be commanding in a contract. If I were to fork out a contract that he’d be getting, I’d want some kind of guarantee or at least a sense it’d be worth it. I just don’t see it, kinda like with Bourn. Now if Greinke is signed, I wouldn’t be mad, it’d be a nice get based on talent alone, but not for an over extravagant amount.
On a different note, I am watching the Astros uniform unveiling, so my thought provoking topic of the day is … what do you guys and gals think of them and with them moving to the AL West, what are your thoughts on the new era of baseball coming next year starting with the change in the inter league schedule because of the move?
November 4th, 201210:47 am
And when I said “Dude is a flake” I mean Greinke is. Just clarifying it.
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
