VJ — I guess based on your 11:20 post is that you do not care much about the NBA reg season.

And that is your right.

I do not get stoked about every reg season game but this home game vs the WC’s & div rival that was winnable was one that I thought had some statement signifigance.

In my book the ATL Hawks let it get away for my own personal $.02.

So I vented a bit. And I feel better now. Our local NBA entry is not as good as last yr — pretty fair statement.

Only the Falcons can give us ATL people the special treat we have been starving for.

I do believe that Frank is going to give it his best to get us the two OF guys but trades are not all that simple.

Forget the FA route — that is not going to be effective for what is out there.

As for trades you have to find the right trade partner and the match of what the other team wants.

Minnesota is the trade partner we fans are looking at cause they need P, we need two of their OFlders. Can that be done — depends on all parameters in making a deal.

Frank really needs to pursue CF in trade first cause the CF candidates who are good in FA are so slim and more expensive then what the Braves will want to pay.

There are really no middle of the pack guys for CF this yr. Its one of the big boys or nothing .

There are some servicable but not sexy ssecondary names for LF FW can look at if a suitable trade cannot be made. Hairston, Gomes, that type could be useful if not a glamour choice.

not sure what doubles have to do with a hole in the swing. Mac was hurt, the word from the surgeon was that it was worse that expected and he was playing in severe pain which was almost surely what caused the low batting average and lack of power.

Once you get past Juan Francisco’s obviously undisciplined strategy at the plate, his stats are pretty good, for a 25 year old AAA player. With most any other rookie with a .262/.293/.497/.790 line as a starter, with a homer every 18 ABs, would never get the almost universal disdain that Francisco gets.

His fielding stats look slightly below average over 4 years of very limited play, and maybe even one tick above average for 2012, when he played the most.

His ABs per HR in the majors have gone from 21 (2009), to 55 (2010), to 31 (2011), to 18 (2012).

I would have him on a short leash as well, but many talk like he should just be released, which would be nuts. He has value as a trade piece. I have calculated this for you on the blog before: if his BB and K rates are just “below average” on the Fangraphs glossary scale (right now they’re “below awful”), his other numbers (BA, OPS, etc.) begin to look downright awesome.

I’m not seeing any stats to support the idea that he is an awful fielder. His career fielding stats look better than Chipper’s.

Hey VJ -

This year’s team is not last years’s team… I don’t have much confidence in my Cats pulling out a win Tuesday night. Last night they scored just 8 points in the first 12 minutes of the first half. Yikes. About the only thing I might predict that will be the same this year compared to last year’s team… they will lead the NCAA in blocks. Still, I’m looking forward to the matchup. I can’t believe it’s been 10 years since the teams have played! There’s something wrong with that.

As usual, PHI is perceived by rival execs and agents as wanting to move fast in their search for a CFer; they’ve been aggressive in talks.

Should be interesting to see who they land. Amaro said they would rather spend money in free agency rather than trade prospects to fill needs.

They need a 3B, CF and RF. I think they’ll go with Mayberry/Brown platoon in LF(or RF, depending on how they fill up the outfield).

Cody Ross was a fit there in Boston & the R-Sox have more $$$$$$$ to spend so it was not unreasonable he would re-up there.

He and Ortiz and the reunion of Farrell will bring some leadership and sanity in that clubhouse this yr after the one yr reign of the Bobby Valentine error. Interesting to see how Nieves does as PC there — hightly thought of guy.

As for the braves one option is to trade for a CF which is needed and sign a less sexy name as a platoon for LF. Then you can filp flop Prado between third and Left (Marteen still an every day player) and platoon Francisco and the LF singee and adjust ur lineup as you see fit depending on who is pitching. That is very doable.

And the bench has to be an improvement from ‘12 — Thanks for the memories Hinske and Diaz.

We should want Reed Johnson back. Tweek the pen a bit depending on $$$$$$$$$ and whom you can re-up and call it an off season.

And there is still trade deadling flexibility or flexibility to make a move even before.

Not sexy moves, but affordable and could be efficient.

And it makes sense regarding Olt/Simmons. Arizona doesn’t have interest in Olt given the presence of 3B Matt Davidson in their minors.

Jeff R — David Ross is a big loss and was big time insurance in case Mc Cann cannot start the yr.

Its recoverable but the other BU catchers out there are not all that good. Gerald Laird maybe????

He is good defensively.

I am not surprised cause this is a very low budget team getting lower and lower. But its not gloom and doom yet.

Now by the ’20’s we are really gonna see the cheapness hit the fan. But we are not ther yet.

I did not say that he was impaired Jeff R.

I hope he does not lose his confidence as a MLB player and just forgets about it.

This just might be the push behind Gattis starting the year in Atlanta. Boscan is great for Spring Training catcher and Betancourt just isn’t ready. Confidence in Gattis might be the reason that the Braves let Ross walk.

If I’m Wren, I want a veteran catcher on the front-line with the skills to handle my pitchers . Until McCann is 100%, I don’t think Gattis or Boscan are suitable to the heavier lift.
