Hunter should ask for a 2 yr deal based on his 2012 play and I hope he gets it.
A class player. If we give it to him fine, if not well, hope he gets it from someone else.
Teheran has already been up. Maybe the third time is the charm. He has a way to go from what I have seen. Small sample size but hey, there is no crying in baseabll.
Hamilton — the Hamilton to the Braves posts are funny even though its all crap.
I might want to see them do a Tulowitski kind of contract with Heyward in time. If he has another real good yr you have to ante up and pay this guy. Freeman too.
Freeman is so so much better than the WAR stuff its not funny.
Look for the Yankees to re-sign Russell Martin, but the Bombers have had their eye on free agent David Ross, who has served as Brian McCann’s backup with the Braves since 2009.
But as you pointed out earlier with the revenues that teams will get ($50 million a team) the teams with renewed TV deals and all the merchandising etc etc, they will find a way to make it back.
And look at what guys who are pretty good players are projected to get this FA off season.
I am also guessing that the teams insure those contracts through companies like Lloyds of London, so the teams find a way to cover themselves business wise and they should.
These are smart businessman who run these teams — they do not just give $$$$$$$$$ away.
No one goes broke owning a MLB or NFL team. I don’t know about the NBA or NHL but those guys do not look like they are starving either.
Sports owners are shrewd business men, they do not lose generally.
The recent deals signed with ESPN, FOX and TBS totaled $12 billion and will pay MLB $1.5 billion annually from 2014 to 2021 — or $50 million per team. (More details here at the Biz of Baseball site.) The previous contracts with those three networks totaled $711.7 million annually — so baseball received a 111 percent annual increase. On top of that, consider MLB Network revenue, MLB Advanced Media revenue and local media deals that are skyrocketing in many markets, and you realize the baseball business product is performing exceptionally well.
Half Empty — So as I read this that is 50 mil per team from 2014 thru 2021 not to mention the other revenues the teams generate.
That is darned good change — That covers more than half of the Braves payroll assuming that ownership stays budged at the 90 mil mark give or take a mil or two. So our guys can do better if they want to.

And in this weekend’s BILLY BEST BRAVES-sponsored NORTH-SOUTH BORDER WARS, my grandson started and played all three OF positions batting second in both games for the BRAVES team. You have no idea how good he looked in a BRAVES uni, at least to these jaundiced eyes. He had 5 AB’s went 0-1 with a SO, 4 BB, 2 SB and 1 R on a steal of home. He forced a two-base error on a LH pitcher by breaking for second just as the pitcher was going to release a throw to 1B. He went to 3-2 in every count, caught looking once, made the pitchers work, ultimately gaining a walk four of five times. He saw 26 pitches in five AB’s.
Maybe at 8-0, you’ll get some love. Collinsworth was bad tonight. Could tell he wanted the Cosboys to win. We’re the best team, with the best receivers and qb…. A really good defense. This team will go far.
I live vicariously through your boy, but sump’n don’t add up. 3-2 every time, 4 walks and a K equals a minimum of 6 pitches per plate appearance. How’d we only get to 26? And, a small piece of unwanted advice, from a flamed-out ballplayer: tell him to swing it; you don’t walk off the island…
BAS – to respond to what you said to me last night, since I have tweaked DS1 in person on such things, and here on occasions, I was not expecting more than a generic putdown – I was surprised that it became more detailed, and was not proud of my helping to bring the discussion to the forefront…
Yeah, there is no such thing as drowning it out. I’d wake up the neighbors if I drowned the sound out.
The soothing music works for some. But for me, it ends up waking me up later in the night. I travel quite a bit and have experimented with leaving the TV or radio on. They end up waking me up in the middle of the night.

DS1 – I would, but there is no more point to my saying you are wrong than there is to you saying I am – we are not going to change each other’s mind about anything political, and that is not why we are on this blog in the first place!
Tonight’s The Walking Dead is about the most intense hour of drama I have ever seen on TV. Some big plot twists tonight, but I won’t spoil it for those who haven’t watched it yet…you are in for a treat. I cannot believe how this show keeps improving from week to week and is without doubt the best thing on TV in a long time.
DOB, I know you get tired of hearing it, but I also know you like really good shows, and you are missing the boat with this one. This is not even the same show that was looking for that little girl on the Farm last year, they have moved way beyond that and are in another league.
Major props to everyone involved with this landmark show. And it’s neat that they are doing all this just right down the road from us in The ATL.
Funny thing is, when I moved here 3 years and 4 days ago, cab told me that she was a night person – now, we zonk out early, and I pre-awake her by an hour and a half or so…
That’s strange, VJ. You went from a night person to a day person by moving… and somehow it affected cab, too. There’s another episode of Twilight Zone in there, somewhere.
Was that the question about music? If so, then I have tried that in the past. My wife doesn’t sleep very well with music playing, but more basic than that, it doesn’t come close to masking out the noise. Also, it ends up waking me up later after I have gone to sleep.
The best thing is two percocet pills, which I use about 4-5 times a year. Don’t want to become a damned drug addict.
I’m thinking a 38 slug might work too…………. permanently. That’s why I don’t keep guns close by.
I took a brief nap this afternoon as Beethoven’s 9th was starting on MusicChoice – it masked the afternoon noise (including football from the adjoining room) – and it kept going and going beyond my shower and lunch and ended just before I left for my 6 hour workday…
Concerning prospects and their age, Uggla didn’t make it to the majors until he was 26 years old, and never played AAA. If Gattis makes it to the majors this year, he’ll have made it at age 26, even with four years out of baseball. — Bob the Blogger
I covered a 1999 Marlins team that had 27-year-old rookie Kevin Millar, who hit .285 with a .362 OBP and .795 OPS in 351 at-bats. Then he had an .862 OPS in 2000, and a .314 average with 64 extra-base hits (20 homers) and a .931 OPS in his third full season in ‘01.
Yeah, it was about music. I don’t anyone with tinnitus – sounds like something that could drive someone mad, especially if they can’t sleep – but I know a guy that has insomnia, and the music works for him… or helps him, anyway.
Instead of wearing headphones or ear buds, he has a speaker on each side of the head of his bed. Plays soothing music all night… sometimes ocean sounds (waves), or rain.
Apparently, you’d need it too loud to drown out your tinnitus.

Braves have broght up Heyward, Freeman, and Simmons in back to back to back season.
In starting pitching, they’ve brought up Hanson, Medlen, Beachy, and Minor.
They’ve brought up Venters and Kimbrel.
Who do the Braves bring up in 2013 to keep the string going until El Oso Blanco makes the scene in 2014?

The worse part about the daylight savings time changes is getting up at 2AM twice a year to change all the clocks!!! — DS1
Or… let’s see what other options we have… how about moving to Arizona? They stay on standard time, I believe.

Well it’s now almost 1:30 AM real time where I am so I’m calling it a night! Take care, everyone!

But, it’s probably close…
Sounds right enough, for me!

Too darned hot down there. And I think there used to be an area of western Indiana that stayed on regular time (Vincennes area).

I know a guy that recently moved to Arizona (Tucson). That’s the only reason I knew that.
Did you see my question to you about your tinnitus, last night?
