He started the season in a slump, and a phenom came up and took his spot.

Wally Pipp was a good player. Did you know that? I think you were at a couple of games he played. Remember?

A few posts ago people were talking about some other players I’m unfamiliar with. Dick Morris and some guy named Limbaugh. Who do they play for?

sure he did, Bourjos regressed to his crappy first season so they played Trout, when they did let PB back in he still sukked.
I have never said that he absolutely won’t hit, but that he is a big risk to hang our starting CFer job on. Has to be real cheap if we get him, and if he does tank WTH do we do then?

Constanza or Schafer or possibly the Bourjos of ‘10 and ‘12? pretty depressing even thinking about how bad that would be :(

I think that if you engage LAA in talks about Bourjos, you let the bowl you over with a deal, or you walk away. He is in the category of a calculated risk. But I still like him.

I didn’t get much of Sandy thankfully, just some wind. A friend of mine wasn’t so lucky his cousin passed away when a tree fell on a house- kid was just 11yrs old. :-/ I’ve just spending my time at work trying to feed and house those who are volunteering from my work to go down and help pump out water from the subways and such.

I see questions about players up and down the lineup if they will hit. Will Simmons hit or not? Will Uggla or Brian bounce back? I’d just like a coupla additions who are likely to produce. How does saying that go? Hope is not a strategy…..

An afternoon with John Daniels and a lovely evening with sweet Josie hasn’t changed a thing, though Josie was close. Very close. She’s just so sweet. I love that girl.

Schafer is still young, very athletic with speed and pretty darn good defensive abilities. If he decides to “grow up” and get serious by making baseball the top priority in his life, he could be a very good player. The Braves investment at this point is worth the gamble. I’d love to see him turn it around; lest we forget Josh Hamilton took quite awhile before he got his head out of his backside and became quite the player. If Schafer doesn’t, then so be it; The reward is worth the risk in this case.

OK, enough of my foolishness – back to baseball.

I’m not comfortable with the Braves giving up one of their top prospects (Teheran, Del Gado) for an older player, like Willingham.

I wouldn’t mind seeing the Braves, somehow, trade for Willingham… but not at THAT cost. As DOB has reported, his contract calls for $7mm for the next 2 years.

I just hate to see the Braves give up a pitcher that may have a long ML career for one that is at the tail end of his.

I know, it’s all a crap-shoot.

You know what I’m talking about.

What I’d like to see, and I’m sure this is what Wren spends most of his day doing, is trade one of their top prospects for another top prospect – one that seems ready to step up to the “Bigs”.

Braves need a LF or 3B, right (rhetorical – don’t answer)? There has to be a team that has one or the other that doesn’t have any room to move up.

THAT’S the guy we want!

uga-brave

Chase Headley had a break-out year for the Padres. He’s 28 and probably at the prime of his career (he’ll be 29 in May).

Does San Diego think they can compete next year? If so, they’ll want to keep Headley, but if not, they’ll want to trade him.

Padres have a young (24) 3B named, Jedd Gyoko. He played in AAA last year and put up excellent numbers.

One way or the other, I would think ONE of those guys might be available.

That’s just an example of what I was talking about.

Efrrim, you are part of the reason i still check in everyday.

that said if mike minor turns out to be a 2 you might combust.

how about a pitcher with high floor but low ceiling, exceeds someones expectations?

it i possible.

my take on minor (vanderbillt) is he is learning.

he pounds the strikezone and misses bats.

he had a run early in the season when every hit he gave up was for extra bases.

i like him as far as the eye test goes.

Minor has been improving right along. His last big hurdle was to get past the big inning. He was, consistently, giving up a crooked number in one inning in each of his starts, prior to the 2nd half.

Will he continue to pitch as well…? Who knows about young pitchers, but I’m in his corner, also.

Forget it nolie, I’m not lucky enough for Uggla to have a better BA than Schafer. Uggla is my own personal example for why this franchise will never do anything for a long long time. I don’t think Fredi uses Uggla’s offense to the best of the Braves’ advantage. Think about it… when Uggla’s struggling, he should bat 8TH! The way he draws walks, then hitting before the pitcher… he’ll draw even more.

If there’s less than 2 outs, the pitcher can sacrifice a good base runner into scoring position. If there ARE 2 outs, then Uggla will almost definitely walk – which will get the pitcher up to bat, last, instead of leading off the next inning.

When Uggla starts on one of his tears… put him back in clean-up. I mean, the guy goes one way or the other in long cycles.

Obviously, that show has a mid-market audience.

*TPS* means, Thinner + Prettier = Sexier
