A team that would reward Dan Uggla and Derek Lowe based on their past performances should have no problem extending Mac. — Nowhere Man
not sure why they wouldn’t reward Uggla for his past production which was in the top 10% of Total Runs most every year in Miami. No way was there a legitimate reason to think he would fall off so much — nolie
I believe, Nowhere Man wants to reward players for their FUTURE production, based on tea-leave readings by Miss Cleo.

A common debate at the end of the season was whether Mike Trout’s spectacular defense for the Angels, coupled with his strong offense, would be enough to persuade voters for the American League Most Valuable Player award to select him over Miguel Cabrera, baseball’s first triple crown winner since 1967.
That now appears doubtful. Trout was left off the Gold Glove lists announced Tuesday in a sign that his exploits in center field were not widely recognized, and thus would probably not help him when it comes to M.V.P. voting. — Benjamin Hoffman, NY Times
Isn’t the MVP voting done at the season’s conclusion? If so, why would the Gold Glove announcement affect the voting?
Venice Jim

No, what he’s saying is that there are obviously people who did not appreciate how good his defense was, making the argument that his defense might have helped with MVP become less likely…

I think there are a lot of ways to attack the GG voting – god knows that many have disagreed with the choices over the years. However, I just don’t think the avenue he chose, was a very good way to do it. It’s just my opinion… we can disagree.
As far as the MVP voting goes; as great as Mike Trout was for the Angels, last season, I just don’t think a triple crown winner, of a playoff team, can be denied the title. Again, just my opinion.

Three things to make the Braves better.
#1- somehow find a bona fide slugging 3rd baseman, move Prado to 2nd, lose Uggla. I know that’s three but they are all related.
#2- sign B J Upton or Pagan for CF
#3- get rid of the damn cow

Soria was mentioned Scoots. I think he’d be cheap, and can be a power arm for the pen, if healthy.
The Angels are still working to trade Dan Haren and expect to move him by Friday, reports ESPN’s Jim Bowden (Twitter links). Haren will bring a much bigger return that what they received for Santana, adds Bowden.
They are also not expected to give a qual. offer to Hunter, so if we do go after him, it wouldn’t cost that pick.

Efrim…..I agree with your Minor assessment. He is who we thought he was. Basically our #3 starter behind Medlen and Hudson. He moves to #4 when Beachy returns to full tilt. Certainly Minor could be regarded higher rotation guy by another team but his ceiling is IMO as a #3 guy. Put another way I would hate to see our rotation with him any higher.

I don’t think the Braves will hand out a multi year deal for a reliever, so I’m trying to look at lesser options for them. Still a cut above from Chad Durbin, though. Joel Peralta? Matt Lindstrom? Jason Grilli? I hope Wren finds a RH reliever though. Someone who Fredi can feel comfortable pitching in the 8th inning to set up Kimbrel if there is a row of RHH’s up.

Shortstop prospect Nick Ahmed will be the Braves’ lone representative in Saturday’s Arizona Fall League Rising Stars Game. Ahmed has hit .350 (14-for-40) w/ 3 doubles, a triple, 8 RBIs and a .386 OBP in 9 games for Phoenix. His low games total is due to fact he wasn’t the designated primary shortstop on that team going into the fall league (that’s how they always do it out there, the primary guy gets the most playing time regardless of how he’s performing, per agreement with the major league clubs when they send players there).

Didn’t Uggla get bigger in the upper body last offseason? I know it’s hard to tell, considering that he’s so Popeye, to start with. Maybe he trims some upper body bulk this year, comes back with a light-speed swing, and proceeds to monsterize NL pitching.
