I’m not sure why everybody keeps saying that Tyler can handle a bat all that well. did not show it to me this season. terrible OBP, very low OPS
October 25th, 20128:32 pm
To me, Delgado has a better chance to succeed but won’t be great, while Teheran has a lower success chance, but could be great.
Good way of putting it, Va. And we have plenty of pitchers that profile as 3-4-5. Keep Teheran and Graham.
October 25th, 20128:34 pm
Oops — correct my 8:31 post Bourjos did hit .271. And he did have some XBH power but want more than 12 HRs and 43 RBI.
October 25th, 20128:35 pm
I don;t think we got much from Tyler this yr and he has no MLB power and had a low OBP.
He busted, like Teheran when he has been with the big club.
October 25th, 20128:36 pm
In 2011 Bourjos played 147 Games producing
271/327438/765 OPS+ 116 26 Doubles, 11 Triples, 12 HR, 22 SB while playing great defense.
Those are very solid numbers for a CFer who was 24 years old in his 1st season as a Everyday player. He had 552 PAs, but in 2012 only had 195 PAs.
I don’t think you can put Peter Bourjos in the same tier as Pastor…. Bourjos produced very solid numbers when he was given the playing time, while providing great defense as well.
Not according to some people I’ve spoken too. Quite a few think that Bourjos is a bunch of garbage… there are others who think as I do, that he can hit if given playing time. But we seem to be the minority.
October 25th, 20128:39 pm
no way to tell whether Bourjos will hit or not, but there is reason to strongly think that he will, and who wants a player who hit 210 two of his three seasons if he does not hit?
October 25th, 20128:40 pm
2011 might have been a “breakout” season for Bourjos in my opinion. However, like Heyward, he struggled with injuries for his second season (this year). He lost his job to Trout. TROUT.
He had a chance to do some great things this year in my opinion. Give him some playing time next year, he could be solid. .260/.330/.400 with CF defense that is among the best in the league. But even if he hits .225, that’s what Bourn did for half a season, and we did just fine. Only Bourjos will cost 1mil.
Va Braves — I say those are servicable but a long way from being All-Star numbers.
And you have to account for the decline this past yr.
I do like the 26 doubles and 11 triples, do not like 43 RBI. Can he do better? Maybe maybe not.
The .327 OBP does not light the world on fire.
October 25th, 20128:41 pm
Overall going for Peter Bourjos is risky still. Only thing certain were getting is great defense, but we also have to factor in that the Angles like him alot and we’d have to give something up for him. He’s just 1 of the many options discussed on here.
I’d like Bourjos if we added a RH cleanup hitter in LF.
October 25th, 20128:42 pm
That was scary… reminded me of what McCarthy went thru. Maybe pitchers need helmets.
man, you badmouth Willingham as a hitter and scream for getting Bourjos??
Rapidly loosing what little cred I was willing to give you
October 25th, 20128:43 pm
plus you keep putting exaggerated words in the mouths of those who disagree with you
October 25th, 20128:45 pm
Disgusted: Bourjos batting 7-9 much of that year… not many RBI chances there, I’d think
you talking to me?
no Va. I am talking to TOBF
I don’t remember badmouthing Willingham… just said that I wouldn’t pay that high price for him.
October 25th, 20128:46 pm
If we can get 18 HRs and 75 RBIS with the .260/.330 and the OPS gobbledly good with 25 doubles and 5 triples and 15 SB I can live with that.
And assuming that he plays standout D.
I don’t like OPS and Slugging pct stats cause I want to keep what I am used to, do not want change, regardless of what.
October 25th, 20128:47 pm
If we could package Salcedo and Ahmed for Bourjos its worth a shot.
Alex Gordon is my number one on my wish list.
nobody else has said they are willing to pay the high price that you claim they say they are willing to either
Or Gordon in LF? But yes, I’d say that we have to get some middle of the order hitter if we’re getting Bourjos. He’d be hitting 8th, I assume.
October 25th, 20128:48 pm
I’m not willing to pay the high price that others are willing to pay. Just Delgado alone would be too much for me. I guess I’m crazy.
October 25th, 20128:51 pm
I do not want to trade Delgado, he is pretty much untouchable, a real keeper.
So is Minor. Teheran is the one you can hoodwink on someone and get value for him.
October 25th, 20128:53 pm
I’d rather not bring back Bourn as retaliation for his disgracefully horriffic second half.
He should have been Booed more. He deserved it.
October 25th, 20128:55 pm
I see that 92.9 has gotten its sports talk radio gig started.
Not a bad first day — will give them a chance. Its a break from the usual voices whom I mostly tuned out.
October 25th, 20129:11 pm
Sorry to the folks I was conversing with earlier this evening, the river called and I had to answer, caught some nice ‘bows on dry flies this evening. Anyway, someone asked me to post a link where DOB agreed that Brian McCann is better off goin to the AL where he can gradually shift to DH’ing and extend his career and probably make more money doing it. I’m not good at that, but it’s on the second or third comment page of his article on McCann that’s up right now. Not sure why I was even asked? Not exactly tough to find…
October 25th, 20129:15 pm
Torri Hunter had a pretty good yr at 36 and looking at is 2012 numbers he is worth a consideartion.
Someone might give him two yrs even at his age & I do not think the Braves would fork over the $$$$$$ for that.
Too bad with his .313/.365/16 Hr 92 RBI and 24 doubles. Still a quality player. He could help.
October 25th, 20129:24 pm
delmon looks like hed ffit in the clubhouse of the braves
October 25th, 20129:25 pm
Disgusted, he’d be much the same as when Garret Anderson came and “played” for us. Guys at that point in there career have a way of coming to Atl to die horrible baseball death…Derek Lowe? Troy Glaus? No thanks…

LOL Pete, I can only take so much…
Later folks. Back in the morning when the intelligent and enjoyable posters show up.
October 25th, 201211:25 pm
Homer you should be banned for just saying so many stupid things that we have to scroll past.
1 last thing… I like these cool info nuggets
ESPN Stats & Info @ESPNStatsInfo
In 2010 World Series, Giants beat a former Cy Young winner in G1, threw a shutout in G2. They’ve done the same in 2012. #dejadejavu
October 25th, 201211:31 pm
Thank you Carroll.
October 25th, 201211:38 pm
Thanks Carroll. Yet another interesting note. I always thought best hitter should go 3rd
Keeps happening… “@AElias1908: @keithlaw yet another example of why your best hitter (Cabrera) should be hitting second? #WorldSeries”
October 25th, 201211:43 pm
A lot of the advanced stats folks think that the best hitter should hit second. I know tradition says hit him 3rd, but there seems to be a lot of good reasons to hit him 2nd though. Now, if you have 2-3 very good hitters, then you can do BOTH. Hit Prado 2nd, and Heyward 3rd.
October 25th, 201211:44 pm
But I would like to hit maybe my best OBP guy in the 2 hole. I always thought Chipper would have been a good 2 hitter in his last couple of years.
October 25th, 201211:59 pm
But I would like to hit maybe my best OBP guy in the 2 hole

October 26th, 201212:38 am
oh, after scanning a few of the comments about the blackout during the series.
the braves traded renteria for jjj, and gorkys in the middle of the 2007 world series.
October 26th, 201212:46 am
been some real good macc pro/con on here lately.
on both sides.
the one thing that i have not scene brought up is whether he will be able to throw.
they totally repaired his labrum. he might of been able to throw before the surgery without pain, but lifting his shoulder now will be different.
October 26th, 201212:48 am
Are you going to catch some of that storm heading north? Hope not.
October 26th, 201212:52 am
IIRC in 1996 we came back and won the last three games from the Cards to get into the WS, and then won the first two games in it….
Giants following much the same path so far, wonder how that will turn out
October 26th, 201212:56 am
Giants up 2-0 again in the World Series.
I didn’t realize it was supposed to be that gd easy.
October 26th, 201212:57 am
Looks like my adopted 2nd favorite team is in a good spot right now. Kinda looks like a destiny type thing going on w/ the Giants.
October 26th, 201212:58 am
Mark Austin Jackson off the potential CF’er list. He signed with Scott Boras.
the giants hit ,269
the braves hit .247
the giants .ops .724
the braves .709.
the giants had 287 doubles
the braves had 263 doubles
October 26th, 201212:59 am
Are you ever happy? Ever? No matter what the situation, you always find something to bitch about.
October 26th, 20121:00 am

October 26th, 20121:03 am
Chipper E. Jones has his surfboard waxed and ready to ride the waves of Sandy.
October 26th, 20121:05 am
been a lot of short series that had little resemblance to what happened during the season
Lot of bloggers missing lately. Where have you gone, George, tiger, Capt Mudd?
October 26th, 20121:07 am
scoots, all your knuckle dragging power hitting 6′5 guys are losing to the team that hit the fewest dingers in all of baseball. LOL
meant to make a smiley thing.
giants hit 103 dingers but ,ops .724.
October 26th, 20121:08 am
Giants and Braves pitching team stats are very close. We were about .2 runs per game better, but scored .3 runs per game less. So in aggregate, we were .1 runs worse than the Giants in run differential.
and both teams won 94 games in the regular season.
Does what Homer say make any sense? NO, but is that reason to ban him. Just keep on banning until you have a group of people who all say the same thing sounds boring.
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
