Be patient Brandon — if you rehab right you will be back in full force.
Now I lead this blong in posts.
October 22nd, 20129:27 pm
A blong, eh?
Hold on to it SF — you are making some Braves fans happy.
Its worth staying up to see the Cards go down in defeat.
Jake W. (The original)
From the last blog,
Would be very fitting if the cards lost this series by blowing it. They have spent the last couple of years capitalizing on everybody else’s mistakes, this time they are the ones that blew it. They’re a good team but this run over the last two years wasn’t entirely of their making.
October 22nd, 20129:28 pm
eh — blog– blong yea its only spelling lol.
October 22nd, 20129:30 pm
Now to support the NL in the world series or root for the tigers, I just hope it is a good series. If I can’t watch my favorite team play I at least want to be entertained.
October 22nd, 20129:31 pm
I don;t think the Cards are a great team, but they are a pretty good team playing in the Central who have been the beneficiary of circumstance.
Still have to give them credit for winning the big gmes they have but I still think the Braves were the better team in both yrs, but we did not get it done.
Is it sour grapes??? Yea, sort of.
October 22nd, 20129:34 pm
I am rooting for the Tigers cause I like that owner Mike Illitch who has been a great sports steward in his ownership of both the Red Wings and Tigers.
Jim Leyland helped bring that franchise back on the map.
Would we not love to have an Illitch in our city. Well, we would still have our hockey team had we had a guy like that on our side.
At least we do have Art Blank, that is one nice thing to say about ATL sports ownership
October 22nd, 20129:36 pm
Keep the lead Giants!!!!!
I dont think you lose the pick if you resign your own free agent. It may have changed but that would be crazy.
October 22nd, 20129:37 pm
I am rooting for Tigers all the way, but I want it to be Tigers/Giants WS, just to get back at Cardinals
October 22nd, 20129:48 pm
I did not know the Braves could lose their first pick under those circumstances.
That is not good.

The better team? Us?
“Better” teams don’t consistently underperform under immense pressure like we do….
We’ll see what happens post-Chipper.
Nice write up, Carroll….

Yadier Molina says “The Giants played to win. We played the last 3 games like the choking losing dogs we are.” Things are happy here in NorCal, but I still would have preferred the Braves playing Detroit.
October 22nd, 201211:42 pm
The Giants are going to the World Series!!!! Happy flight, Yadier.

October 23rd, 201212:16 am
Had an idea today. What about a trade for choo to play left and leadoff. He has a lifetime obp over 380 and has 18 to 20 homer pop. He does struggle against leftys but we could through johnson in there every once in a while. He stands to make around 8 mill in arb and will be a free agent after 13 so it could be a one and done but my not take as much to get him because of that. Now if you dont like that part of it you’ll hate this we then could sign upton to play center for around 12 to 13 mill. Leaving anywhere from 7 to 10 mill for bull pin and rotation upgrades.
Go tigers sweep the Giants so we can start the offseason of the braves fans dreams.
October 23rd, 201212:19 am
we need another lefty who can’t hit lefties like we need cancer. What is so hard to understand about the fact that we have a losing record against lefty starters and twenty games over 500 against righties
October 23rd, 201212:24 am
right, we need somebody who can hit both, and that is usually , though not always, a RHed hitter
October 23rd, 201212:43 am
Evan Gettis is our Michael Morse. He will be our opening day left fielder in 2013.
October 23rd, 201212:46 am
I really seriously doubt that Kris

Thanks Carroll. Good to see some new ink.

October 23rd, 201212:59 am
how come Homer and Nowhere man show up together so often? They dating?
October 23rd, 20121:01 am
Tell me how the braves going after Pierre Inge or how sh fowler is in our sites or Revere is coming back to his homeland but I already know Beachy is good, I need some real stuff not stuff I already know
October 23rd, 20121:05 am
Brave one better go back to that site i am not done i go from 7th to 1 before it is all done the count is not over
yeah We know that AJC already knows just what Wren will do this winter. You are letting us down Carroll.
October 23rd, 20121:07 am
Put Gattis on the bench. Guy sounds like he’s been tearing it up in the minors. Better him than Hinske, Overbay or Baker. And if he’s not the answer then big deal. He’s a high reward, low risk guy. Start him out on the bench, and see what happens.
Can’t wait for Beachy to get back, I know he’s anxious, but take it one day at a time Brandon. You are one of our three future aces.
If Beachy can regain his form and Meds, and Minor can pitch like they have been, we may have the next Maddux, Glavine and Smoltz. Maybe not as good, but we can finally have three shut down pitchers again that our young and about to enter their prime.
October 23rd, 20121:12 am
stick him on the bench and you pretty much slow down most of his development.
Most likely will start the season in the minors unless he has a huge winter and spring.
October 23rd, 20121:15 am
Durango and Gattis toss to the ladies and drink to the lads fill up the glasses 13 is ours
October 23rd, 20121:16 am
Carroll can Hoorah be banned for being nonsensical?
October 23rd, 20121:18 am
Hoorah’ s comments about Cancer and Gays should be enough to bozo him.
October 23rd, 20121:19 am
you should stay away from talking about bans Nowhere
Gays? where did I say anything about gays?
October 23rd, 20121:21 am
saying cancer is bannable? Really? What an idiot you truly are
October 23rd, 20121:22 am
rocky road to dublin aka WS it cross my mind for the road it cross my mind The Braves need some ringers some spiirits that the capt. knows the Chipper dayes over and thank God for that
October 23rd, 20121:24 am
Some struggle Braves oye
October 23rd, 20121:26 am
You find a right handed hitter with a lifetime obp over 380 with a ops over 800 and then we will talk. I notice you made no suggestions on who we should go get. My lineup would give us 4 right handed hitters and 4 left as balanced as it gets.
October 23rd, 20121:29 am
Braves seen Gnat on DC and said ahhhhhhhhhhhh ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh welwolf of london, Tomahawks of the Atl again, ahhhhhhhhhh ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh welworlves of Lodon, Stay away from them dc they rip out your limbs, Fool rizzo say i like to meet our tailor, but Wren’s hair was perfect
October 23rd, 20121:30 am
FOUND him and his name is Pierre
October 23rd, 20121:32 am
we need a lefty like we need cancer, or another Nowhere Man. We have too many of our important hitters as lefties already plus for his career Uggla hits righties better than lefties.
The facts speak for themselves, we are below average against lefty starters and you want to bring in yet another one who hits .249 .338 .358 .695 …UNDER 700 FCS- against lefties. Sick sick sick
October 23rd, 20121:34 am
We already lead the world in facing lefty starters, we’d be looking at even more when they saw that 695 OPS added to a lineup that can’t hit them anyway
Go on home DC let us be. You never beat Wren take a tip and let us be. for 14 str8 yrs this was our division so funk you gnats this is our division. fight you without fear. fought phi. without phi. back off Rizzo let us be we fight without fear, you got no home of your own you canada based mlb welfare team
October 23rd, 20121:38 am
Is your native language something other than English, Homer? Sometimes I have trouble understanding what you are sating.
guessing pierre is a joke being he is at 346 obp and 709 ops. If it makes us better in the other 70 plus percent of the time against righties then yes. I also said play johnson some of the time. You still have not said who you would go after. 380 obp and 800 plus ops also speaks for its self. Something we didnt have on our team last year. So yes it would be sick to add that to our team.
October 23rd, 20121:40 am
Why you so worried about me hoorah? I promised I not the one that broke your marriage. let me be
October 23rd, 20121:41 am
Juan Pierre is not a joke, I like him
October 23rd, 20121:42 am
citing those stats are useless because we need help against lefties and he absolutely stinks against them. we do not need a platoon player who would cost us what he would in trade
October 23rd, 20121:45 am
not worried about you Homer, just trying to understand what you say most of the time. Its like you think it is cool to talk in some kind of street gibberish or drunken stupor most of the time saying nothing that makes any sense.
It probably wouldn’t make any sense anyway, but at least we would know for sure
I already beat A. Blank try to take my Falcons from the Southside, I think I can handle a boy yrs beyond his age of trying to poor a glass in a dirty glass that bites off more then he can chew. I bet you the first to point the finger and say Richard Jew. was guilty when he was a got dang hero

Hello everyone! Just coming on for one post, and let the comedy keep rolling……. Just when you thought you heard everything, and will leave it as that! LOL…….Talk tomorrow, and “Go!!!!!Braves!!!!!”
October 23rd, 20124:40 am
I am something of a Choo fan, but I’m not sure he is a great fit for the Braves, nor do I think he would be all that cheap.
October 23rd, 20127:08 am
actually if you think of Choo as a leadoff guy, he makes some sense. Even though he is weak against LHed pitchers, his OBP is still around 340 he just hits with a lot less power. course he’d have to play LF so if the LFer is the lead off guy what does the CFer do since I can’t think of any feared RHed hitting CFers available. Maybe Choo hits second?
However from a practical standpoint the thing is that he only has one year left and would likely cost more in trade than they would want to go.
October 23rd, 20127:55 am
toldja all yesterday the Giants would go to the WS
And I said they’ll win it. Let’s go Giants.
Choo is a Boras client as well…
October 23rd, 20128:13 am
Is it ok to be happy Cardinals blew a 3-1 lead? I guess they quit playing to win.
October 23rd, 20128:15 am
Thanks for the new post, DOB.
So, the question of the day: What stings more to respective fans? The Braves losing the play-in to the Cards, or the Cards dropping a 3-1 advantage to the Giants?
October 23rd, 20128:18 am
It just hurts,man.
October 23rd, 20128:27 am
I’d have to say the Cards… 3 chances to win, and get beat soundly in all 3. Outscored 20-1.
October 23rd, 20128:31 am
Gattis’ pre-injury at bats last year would be great even in Little League. That is better than one HR every 11 at bats. (Better than Babe Ruth’s number, and better than McGwire/Bonds steroid juiced numbers). Of course he can’t maintain that over a full season even in AA, and 2013 in ATL would be a stretch for him. But you certainly have to keep a close eye on him. If he just falls in our lap next spring as a starting left fielder with pop, don’t look for reasons to say no.
Thanks for a blog on Beachy’s progress, Carroll.
Options, Bourn, and Beachy. Who will be nontendered?
Let the Silly Season begin.
October 23rd, 20128:35 am
Giants in the World Series means that Pagan’s price goes up, unless he really flops. Just moderately good play, plus the constant TV exposure, will cause his price to rise. Especially if the Giants win, in which case he will be viewed as a “proven winner.” His price will go up even among sophisticated front office people. I reckon a Giants win in the Fall Classic would cost us a cool million per year if we sign him.
October 23rd, 20128:38 am
nolie thats is why I said upton for center for his power. He would give j hey and freeman just enough protection from lefties. As far as what choo would cost im not sure what they will want for him as they know he will not resign with them. I was thinking maholm and a sprull type prospect might be enough. mlbtraderumors seem to think any roster player would do so a forth starter and a third to forth starter prospect might do.
October 23rd, 20128:39 am
Option 1: Trade Hanson, Uggla, and a tier 2 minor league pitcher to Minn. for Span or Revera and Willingham. Then sign Scuttoro. Option 2: Sign Pagan and Cody Ross.
October 23rd, 20128:48 am
We need hitting.
We DON’T need Brian McCann!
October 23rd, 20129:00 am
Carroll, apologies. I should read the by-lines! Thanks for the blog.
October 23rd, 20129:02 am
For real. What does that 6 time Silver Slugger know about hitting?
October 23rd, 20129:04 am
I’d say the Cards loss stings a lot more for the reasons you stated.
In this case, close only counts in horseshoes.
October 23rd, 20129:06 am
So if the Braves make a qualifying offer to Bourn and he doesn’t accept, and then the Braves sign him to a long-term contract, the Braves would forfeit their first round pick?
I’ll call that a win for the players and agents. Probably won’t see as many qualifying offers being made, which should open up free agency.
So I’m guessing if the Braves make a qualifying offer, we can probably assume they have no intention of bringing Bourn back. Can’t imagine he would accept a qualifying offer.
October 23rd, 20129:10 am
I love Carroll, truly I do, but I don’t think this is correct.
I read that as well and found that weird. After doing some research, the Braves would NOT lose their first round pick if they make a qualifying offer to Bourn and he signs elsewhere. Summarized well here:
Once a team makes a qualifying offer, the player has two choices: he can accept the one-year deal or decline in it search of other offers. If he declines the offer and signs elsewhere, his new team will have to surrender a top draft pick (the selection doesn’t go to the player’s former team).
Teams that sign free agents who turned down qualifying offers will surrender their first round picks. However, the forfeited picks don’t go to other MLB teams. Instead, the first round simply becomes condensed.
Note that it says NEW team. Would be overly punitive to lose a pick for re-signing your own player. Don’t think even the players union would want that.
October 23rd, 20129:15 am
Bourn could still sign with the Braves if he doesn’t accept the qualifying offer, but the Braves would have to forfeit a first round pick.
Carroll, are you sure about this? If the Braves make a qualifying offer to Bourn, he doesn’t accept it, but then he signs with his own team later in the offseason – the Braves have to forfeit their OWN first round draft choice? This is the first place where I have seen that documented, and to be honest, it doesn’t make a ton of sense, but maybe your right?
Finally the Cardinal's luck ran out!
Finally the Cardinal’s luck ran out! That is all they had thepast two years!
October 23rd, 20129:16 am
Braves need RH impact hitter who can carry the team. I would see what it takes to get Ryan Braun from Milwaukee.
October 23rd, 20129:18 am
Twins looking to add three starting pitchers this offseason:
October 23rd, 20129:19 am
jim…”I would see what it takes to get Ryan Braun from Milwaukee”
How much you got? Take that and multiply it by infinity, then add in a few more on top of that.
October 23rd, 20129:20 am
Bourn could still sign with the Braves if he doesn’t accept the qualifying offer, but the Braves would have to forfeit a first round pick.
Are you sure that’s accurate?? I will admit that I haven’t read the new rules all the way through, but I’d be very surprised if a team was penalized a draft pick for re-signing their own free agent. The entire point of the process is to give teams an upper hand in resigning their own guys.
October 23rd, 20129:24 am
The other thing is, the Braves don’t have to make the one-year offer at the qualifying minimum. As long as their offer to Bourn has an AAV at or above the qualifying minimum, it counts. Thus, if they plan to offer him 5/$75MM in any event, they can use that as a qualifying offer and have that small window of exclusivity to at least make the guy think a little. Bird in the hand, and all that.
