@Lew, good point, been pull’n for him though, hope he can show stamina, I like you’re assesment of platooning, I feel he would be such a great discipline hitter, & mind you, I am doing a whole lot of Hopeing for the kid, just like for someone who had to face the odds come out of nowhere & be a beast, really light it up w/ strong offensive numbers. Hopeing he can be that young Thumper( I know he’s 27)that we can say become our own to go w/ J-Hey & Freeman.

74Braves – Well, if he were a viable option for that platoon, it would leave Wren with enough money and trade bait to fill CF in good shape AND get that starter so many Braves’ fans covet – though not THE starter at least one blogger desires with all of his heart and soul.

However, if it were to happen, I predict about a 50/50 split on the blog between those who would be thrilled and those who would castigate Wren for not spending money yet again and Liberty Media for being penurious in the extreme.

Is Pastornicky playing winter ball? Like to see him get some time in center/left/second base to see if he could be a legit help there next year.

Hey, we’ll never know what can happen, & a crazy die – hard like me hopes they’ll make the moves that the team will be propelled w/ consistency, that does carry them through the post season, & maintain a swagger that makes ‘em that team that’s not a pushover, but gets after it when the bells rung.

Assuming we spend too much money elsewhere such as left field and/or pitching, i wonder what kind of production we could get out of a Reed Johnson/Todd Cunningham platoon in center?

I really don’t think Pastornicky has anything but a marginal bat. 2 HR’s in 188 PA’s last year and a .243 .287 .325 .613 line. That pretty much eliminates him from everything but 1st, 7th and 8th in an emergency situation. To me he looks like a year or two bench player and then will be released.

well, he is 22 years old with a pretty good track record with the bat, in the minors. he is a high contact hitter with speed which means you can expect a good average, decent OBP, and little to no power. i think a guy like that, as young as he is, could have a pretty good future if he can play multiple positions. (which tyler can)

Braves minor league field coordinator Dave Trembley has been hired away by Astros to join new manager Bo Porter’s major-league staff. No specific job title yet, but word is he’ll be Porter’s bench coach. He once managed a team with Porter on it in the minor leagues.

A few post back, someone put Simmons and KC’s Myers together in a deal.

Simmons and Teheran for Myers?

KC would be getting low cost quality players, which is what they want. Myers has been blocked because they have some decent OFers. Most of Myers play in AAA last year was in CF (87 of 99 games). What are the reports on his fielding? He has been given the phenom cognomen, so I’m assuming he is pretty damn good out there. Someone please correct me if I’m wrong. And is he ready to step in as an everyday MLB starter in 2013?

Could we man SS with a combo of Janish, Prado, and even Pastornicky, until Ahmed comes along?

Myers would be a low cost CFer for several years, which would leave us all 22M to fill LF with a free agent.

Obviously, you lose some fielding at SS with anyone other than Simmons. Is Ahmed projected to be a plus fielder at that position? And, all the experts said Prado could not play SS, but his BEST fielding stats last year were at that position–and the ultimate stat, the eyeball, does not lie. He could platoon at that position quite handily. Simmons would be better than any platoon. But an OF of Heyward, Myers, and a stud free agent seems mighty appealing.

I would love you guys to pick this idea apart. My main point, I guess, is that Simmons is not untouchable.

I call being the first in the history of this board to use the word “cognomen.”

I’m probably going to upset a lot of people here, but I think it’s time to cut ties with Brian McCann. Not because I hate him, or he sucks, or whatever, I’m just trying to separate emotion from objectivity. Brian’s got a 6-month rehab ahead of him, and there’s no guarantee that he’ll be 100% once it’s complete. He’s struggled mightily at the plate, and I realize in part that’s due to him playing with a hurt knee. But from a cost perspective, I think it would be better to trade him and maybe a pitching prospect for a power hitter that could make this a fearsome lineup. Who? I don’t know. I confess, I don’t keep up with who’s got what contract for how much. I love Brian, and I appreciate what he’s done for the organization. But I think at the end of the day, he’s probably played his last game as a Brave. Okay, throw the tomatoes.

The Rockoes always have good OFers… Wheeler is ready for the upcoming season and a big piece to their future 2-3 years after that. Why not target a RH OFer from their organization like Kyle Parker? What would the Rockies want from the Braves in terms of pitching (since they have a good 3B, SS, and plenty of OF prospects and they always need pitching). Does it have to be Braves #1 pitching prospect like Teheran? I like the idea of trading for him AND trading for Willingham so that we’re not constantly looking for RH LFer.

Lew, I am from the South, but I am from Kentucky, so Monday-Friday in the fall was spent pretending last Saturday didn’t just happen.

Always watched the LCS and WS growing up because it seemed like a huge deal. Before the Braves were good, I watched every play-off game, no matter who was in it. Then, the Braves made back2back World Series and I kept watching. But after that, my interest began to peak and wane with the Braves’ performance.
For years, it was very difficult for me to watch the next round after the Braves were eliminated. It took me a week or so to get the disgusting taste out of my mouth. I’m beginning to get past that a little, but not completely.

I still watch the play-offs and WS, but focus on the first two innings and the last three innings of most games. My main interest is in hearing the Star Spangled Banner and God Bless America because it gets my little girl excited.

D’Backs Acquire Heath Bell In Three-Team Deal
By Zach Links [October 20 at 3:19pm CST]
The Diamondbacks announced that they have acquired Heath Bell and cash considerations from the Marlins in a three-team deal with the Athletics. Miami will receive minor league infielder Yordy Cabrera from the A’s and Oakland will get outfielder Chris Young and cash from Arizona.

Bell was unhappy in Miami as the club was unwilling to restore him as closer, tweets Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times. The 35-year-old struggled in his first and only year with the Marlins, posting a 5.09 ERA with 8.3 K/9 and 4.1 BB/9 in 73 appearances.

McCann is not going anywhere this offseason. It would be an epic sell low/buy low. I would love for McCann to come back and have such a good season it really puts the squeeze on the front office when deciding to extend McCann or not.

I know McCann doesn’t want any part of it, but I still think McCann would do better in the AL where he could DH a good bit to reduce the wear and tear. Too special of a bat to age prematurely due to catching

#Athletics can pick up Crisp’s $7M option, then trade OFer of their choosing, most likely Crisp. But all likely in play. How Beane operates.

They don’t drop dead, but I’d like both acquisitions to be under 30-31, if possible. Definitely not for both being over 30. If I had to choose between Coco and Willingham, I’d probably pick Willingham.

Lets talk Centerfield for 2013….Dexter Fowler who is from this area would truly love to play in Atlanta and I think the pitching staved Rockies would take a Trade of Tommy Hanson and Jose Constanza would do the trick.I think Constanza could hit .320 in Denver and do a great job in their outfield.Hanson could step right into the rotation and Fowler a switch hitter wit power could filll the Middle of the Braves outfield. He can run, throw,Hit with power and probably not whiff 151 times like Bourn did. Here is the next Bourne Braves movie title,Bourn and Boras head to DC.That of course would leave Roger Bernidina out of the Mix.Imagine what he might be able to do with 500 at bats in a season.Anyone Agree??????

I’ve been saying GA missing extra points is going to cost us a win this year from the first game. Missed another and now trail 14 – 13.
