3-0 Nationals. It would be something if they even get to the World Series after shutting Strasburg down. That’s a big “f u” to the rest of the National League. We can still get to the WS without our Ace.
And if they do what I think they will and lock up Laroche and trade Morse – that would put them in great position to go get Michael Bourn for CF. That’d be a balanced lineup…..
Good lineup and a great defensive unit. With that 1-12 in the pitching staff? Stacked….
October 12th, 20129:09 pm
I like the way they’ve televised the first round of the playoffs this year. Has a March Madness feel to it with games all day. TBS still needs to greatly improve the quality of the announcers though.
October 12th, 20129:22 pm
Im still on the go young train after talking to some royals fans it looks like myers is untouchable which makes sense but will need to make some kind of move as they have a log jam in the outfield. I still think olt needs to be our main target of the off season. Leave prado in left for now but dont give him 10 mill a year like the great dob wants. I love prado more than anyone but that is to much cash for someone we cant put at his best spot. It will be hard to find that top notch leadoff great d center fielder. I like fowler, Davis, Rivera,Crisp. Would love to get billy Hamilton from the reds and put him in center lol but im sure the reds are not letting him go. Stubbs would not be a bad fit but not as a leadoff hitter as he makes uggla look like a contact hitter. We could go power in center with stubbs, young, Hunter or bj upton and look for a leadoff hitter in left. This is already one of the best off seasons in my lifetime because if we make no moves what so ever we would still be a very good team not a playoff team but very good.
October 12th, 20129:26 pm
Hudson one year at 9 mill or peavy 3 years at 12 per? He has always wanted to be a brave as he is from bama. He is one of my favorite players as is hudson i just think he brings a little more to the table now as he is a power strike out pitcher.
October 12th, 20129:29 pm
If the Nats advance, every team left in the playoffs will have had an ace at the front of their rotation.
Nats- Strasburg (or Gio)
The teams that got knocked out-
Orioles- ??? Miguel Gonzales? Chen? Hammel?
Cardinals- Lohse (not really an ace)
A’s- McCarthy (mid #2)
Reds- Cueto (yea, he’s an ace)
Rangers- Darvish (1st year)
October 12th, 20129:30 pm
I have a hard time believing that they are going to acquire any starting pitching this winter, unless it involves a mega-trade where we move a pitcher too.
I love prado more than anyone but that is to much cash for someone we cant put at his best spot
He’s a very good left fielder.
October 12th, 20129:34 pm
Marteen Needs To Stay Put At Third……
October 12th, 20129:35 pm
he is a great left fielder, probably his best position defensively. and if he hits around 800 , well it put him 6th this season so that is acceptable with the defense he plays
October 12th, 20129:41 pm
I agree with Braveheart…the MLB Network has gone way past TBS in broadcasting games and providing analysis.
Cards getting spanked… 6-0 Nats. Some team didn’t play to win tonight. A certain catcher really will have a happy flight.
October 12th, 20129:43 pm
Matheny has been taking lessons from Fredi Gonzalez on his pitching decisions. Left Wainwright in there so long now they will never come back. 6-0 now, guess he had no other pitchers. That’s a “Fredi Move” like he did with Hudson a couple times this year. These younger managers have a bad habit of doing that. Somebody like Davey Johnson would never do that.
October 12th, 20129:46 pm
ESPiNosa may have a job with a certain network when his playing days are over.
Brave New World
October 12th, 20129:49 pm
This is to Adam Wainwright: We Braves fans can’t understand why your lame butt Cardinals celebrated after winning the Wild Card play off game. Nice pitching tonight in a must win game, big mouth (and Brave cast off). GO NATS!
October 12th, 20129:56 pm
All free agents after 2013.
October 12th, 201210:08 pm
Hudson one year at 9 mill or peavy 3 years at 12 per? He has always wanted to be a brave as he is from bama.
Peavy made it clear 4 years ago that he didn’t want to be a Brave. He did the Braves a favor by rejecting them. One of the best trades the Braves never made.
Chipper’s a tweetin’ away tonight.
October 12th, 201210:11 pm
Are any of those pitchers really attractive to ya? It’s no Greinke, Haren, McCarthy option, that’s for sure.
October 12th, 201210:14 pm
I’ve never seen so many want options to be declined(mind you, within three days after the World Series) so it can create holes, uncertainty and make Frank Wren have to potentially use additional assets to fill those holes, or go through free agency – which doesn’t always mean you get the player you want.
McCann, Hudson and Maholm are coming back for 2013, imo. And so is Uggla….for good measure.
October 12th, 201210:18 pm
Gio trying to pitch the Cards back into the ballgame
October 12th, 201210:22 pm
Good point Braveheart had forgotten about that in his defense we sucked then but you are right. As far as prado goes i was talking about all around his best spot is second and there is no question about that. Remember last year we watched how him being off a little makes him worthless. A power hitter will at least run into one now and then ie uggla with 19 bombs. Prado to be worth playing has to hit 310 because he does not walk hit for much power or have top end speed although he did have a nice year in steals this year.
Cardinals are 5-0 in their last 5 elimination games.
October 12th, 201210:23 pm
Gio has gone Oliver Perez on us now. Geebus.
October 12th, 201210:25 pm
It’s a shame certain ones kept the Braves from being in this game rather than St. Louis. They would have bombed Gonzalez like they did during the regular season. Braves should have been playing for the division title not the wildcard, but too many people seemed to be OK with that. You settle for lesser, that’s what you usually end up with. Don’t expect any better next year, could be even worse.
October 12th, 201210:27 pm
Its funny everyone wants the 220 hitting uggla gone and love the 220 hitting mac back. If we can restructure his contract then yes but not 13 for one year. Maholm will be picked up but as trade bait imo.
October 12th, 201210:31 pm
If we can restructure his contract then yes but not 13 for one year.
“Hey Brian, ya know that 12 million you thought you were getting? Well, we’d like you to restructure for 6 million. What’s your take on that?………..”
Yup. I think it will go over real smooth.
October 12th, 201210:33 pm
Rosenthal, Kelly, Lynn, Miller……
Behind Wainwright, Carp, Garcia, Lohse, Westbrook.
Future is bright in Saint Louis.
October 12th, 201210:34 pm
As far as prado goes i was talking about all around his best spot is second and there is no question about that..rainman
his worst spot is second, he is better in left and third both. Not even close
October 12th, 201210:38 pm
Jayson Stark @jaysonst
Trevor Rosenthal just hit 100 mph 7 times in that inning. Aroldis who?
Hope he doesn’t get the Tommy Hanson disease…
October 12th, 201210:39 pm
So down go the Os…..
That’ll thrill MLB as it can get its ratings.
October 12th, 201210:40 pm
so his numbers compare better against other left fielders and third basemen. You are right about one thing it is not even close.
October 12th, 201210:43 pm
talking about his defense
October 12th, 201210:44 pm
he would have been third in NL third basemen offensively
October 12th, 201210:45 pm
I’m as irritated now by davey johnson as i was in the 80s…..
October 12th, 201210:51 pm
I thought you were always irritated?
October 12th, 201210:53 pm
Not me, pete….
Go eat a peach.
October 12th, 201210:54 pm
Hanley, zimmerman, wright, A Ramirez, Freese, and Headly all better this year Alvarez was close and when healthy Sandeval is better.
October 12th, 201210:59 pm
from what I can see, the players with full seasons who hit higher OPS were Ramirez, Wright, Headley and Zimmerman,
October 12th, 201211:00 pm
That does not look a thing like the Derek Lilliquist I remember….
October 12th, 201211:02 pm
Lilliquist was a chubby/chunky guy as I recall, you would have hated him
October 12th, 201211:11 pm
Uh Pete? I do remember him well, which is why i said what i said. UGA guy, Brave for a time. Loved the guy.
You doofs that actually think i hate fat people are something else.
October 12th, 201211:12 pm
Its funny everyone wants the 220 hitting uggla gone and love the 220 hitting mac back.
I know I feel that way but acknowledge that I am afflicted with the homegrown attachment that makes me irrational. Don’t have that same loyalty with Uggla even though I’ve come to like him as a good dude who plays hard, acts like a man, doesn’t whine, make excuses, blame others and act like a little beeeoch. But I still get disgusted with him every time he comes up to bat or every time I read his stats.
Freese did as well
October 12th, 201211:15 pm
For me its more that uggla tries to pull every ball into the big coke bottle in left. When he goes up the middle and to right is when he is at his best.
October 12th, 201211:18 pm
you certainly give that impression frequently phil
and since I had no idea what you were referencing currently I have no idea what you meant
October 12th, 201211:19 pm
For me its more that uggla tries to pull every ball into the big coke bottle in left. When he goes up the middle and to right is when he is at his best
In 2012, Uggla had a .430 avg. when he pulls the ball, .290 when he hits up the middle, and .137 when he goes to right. His career stats follow this trend.
October 12th, 201211:20 pm
DOB or anyone else, what do you think happened to Julio Teheran velocity?
October 12th, 201211:22 pm
you are right, I misread Freese as 301 somehow instead of 501
October 12th, 201211:23 pm
Pete, i’m usually full of it.
To be so damn smart, some still can’t get that through apparently very thick skulls.
I prefer athletes be in shape and not fat slobs, but that doesn’t automatically mean I hate them.
October 12th, 201211:25 pm
Freese seems to be coming along nicely for them
As far as the restructure of macs deal it would be for more years just not as high per year total.
October 12th, 201211:27 pm
Is Derek now skinny or big as a house?
October 12th, 201211:28 pm
Thats because he tries to pull everything so the balls he hit to left were missed balls not balls that were hit for purpose.
October 12th, 201211:29 pm
What happened to Teheran’s velocity?
October 12th, 201211:38 pm
My grandfather was a big Cardinals fan. My dad was a big Yankees fan. In 1996, I sat and watched Game 7 of the LCS with my grandfather and rubbed it in.
I then avoided my dad for about a week after the WS ended.
My dad did not live to see another WS. My grandfather, as most grandfathers do, died a handful of years later.
As much pain as the Cards and Yankees have caused the Braves since 1996, I cannot hate these teams. I admire them out of respect for my father and grandfather.
That said, I have had enough of the Cardinals for a while. We helped them win the division in 2006, setting them up for a WS championship. Then, we went el foldo last year, letting them grab the WC and lo and behold, win another championship.
And of course, this year. And, it’s not just the loss, it’s the whole sordid Holbrook affair.
I’ve had enough of St. Louis for awhile.
I’ve liked the Tigers since the 1984 WS. The first WS I ever watched. Still remember Gibson’s game 5 homer (an afternoon WS game – there has only been once since – Game 5 of the 1987 WS IIRC), watching with my dad.
Go Tigers. Go Nats.
October 12th, 201211:40 pm
On Teheran’s velocity he is working on some mechanical issues so that could be what happened. Same i think with tommy he tried to change so much in the offseason with his delivery i think it messed him up.
October 12th, 201211:44 pm
The Nats 2 wins have been by a combined 2 runs, the Cards 2 wins by a combined 16 runs …. the Nats had to know they weren’t going to win this game easily
October 12th, 201211:45 pm
I see EVERYONE is still into spending other people’s money. This game is moving to the bottom of the 8th at 11:45 PM, IF the Nats win will they be for real or will it take another 167 games? Maybe the Tigers would trade Infante for You Know Who, Nah!!!
October 12th, 201211:51 pm
of course we are, what is more fun than spending money vicariously ?
October 12th, 201211:56 pm
you rate pospect A or Prospect B without other variables . tehearn or maybe delgado.
October 12th, 201211:59 pm
Drew Storen will try to get through the heart of the Cards order…
October 13th, 201212:01 am
before i was rudely sidetracked, the minor leagues are littered with caribbean pitchers that do not pan out.
hard to say how some will adjust in the states.
October 13th, 201212:07 am
ukuga, my entire family on pretty much both sides are Yankee fans.
my father left mount vernon and went to Northwestern. then the south.
October 13th, 201212:13 am
The gNats could really use Kimbrel right now…
October 13th, 201212:15 am
oh boy Nats
molina and posey at the top of their games.
NO MORE FREDI
October 13th, 201212:16 am
Notice how cardinals manager always kept his cool tonight? Fredi shows his “what am I gonna do” face which makes your players feel like you have no trust in them.
October 13th, 201212:17 am
Holy moly, the Nats blew this one big time.
October 13th, 201212:18 am
well, you had a good season Nats and you only had 1 more out to get but those Cards … man, ask the Braves, they make your team look really bad
Have mercy…. Storen allowed 4, all with 2 outs. 9-7 Cards.
PLEASE GET US A REAL MANAGER!! Not some guy that deep down wants to be one of the guys because he never played pro ball. Very impressed with the Cardinals tonight.
Drew Storen is such a great pitcher…
October 13th, 201212:19 am
Ww, can’t believe the Cards do this…………….
deep offensive lineup the cards have. yeah for 12 million we could of had beltran.
October 13th, 201212:22 am
am I the only one that rewinds their DVR and forfgets they are behind?
October 13th, 201212:23 am
“Notice how cardinals manager always kept his cool tonight?”
Good point. Seems like a natural..with absolutely know prior managing experience. Since his retirement he’s been watching his son play ice hockey and baseball out of the St Louis market. Weird, but seems to be a big hit in St Louis.
Now, the Cards have to get a pitcher to get 3 guys out.
October 13th, 201212:25 am
How do you know rainman?
That’s a bigger choke than the Braves if the score holds. Had 2 outs in the 9th, up by 2, and allow 4 to score.
October 13th, 201212:26 am
Harper will be outplayed by the J Hey next year
October 13th, 201212:27 am
So disgusting watching the stupid Cardinals winning like this…
October 13th, 201212:29 am
You’re Welcome ….. again
Wow. 9 lives, I swear.
October 13th, 201212:32 am
Mcguire looked pumped up lol
Putting it down right now, the Cards win the World Series. in 2010, we let the Giants beat us, they win. Last year, we let the Cards get the WC, they won. It’ll continue this year, unfortunately.
Go Giants and Tigers!
No Flag Since Lemke
October 13th, 201212:34 am
Just a matter of a bunch of guys with little or no post season experience having their collars tighten. It sets up an interesting series between the Giants and Cards
The Dream Season ends for the Nats! Braves fans understand what Nat fans are feeling right now.
October 13th, 201212:38 am
October 13th, 201212:39 am
“Braves fans understand what Nat fans are feeling right now”
unfortunately for the Nats fans they’re only just starting Grief Stage 1, Braves fans should be in Stage 5 and beyond
October 13th, 201212:41 am
Ureal comeback for The Cards–congrats St. Louis, you earned it—the season has concluded for D.C.————————–Time to shut ‘em down; Nationals have a nice winter.
Yunel's Frosted Tips
You can hate on the Cardinals all you want………….but they got something this organization just don’t have………the way they play the game and carry themselves………a confidence I don’t see in the dugout or on the field in the ATL…
That puts a crimp in few natitudes I’ll bet
Is there a “Grief Stage: 17th Year”? Because that’s where we are.
October 13th, 201212:42 am
I’m running out of teams to cheer for in this thing.
October 13th, 201212:43 am
Give me Detroit and the Giants in the fall classic……..no Yankees please…..
Hey Noliee….Should we send a copy of this game to Fredi? I only wish our guys [collectively] had the plate discipline and mental drive shown by St. Louis this evening!
October 13th, 201212:44 am
This is kind of funny in a way. Even though I wanted to see the Gnats win it to keep the Cards out of it again, I like what is happening. This could turn out making Bud Selig look rather foolish. If the Cards beat SF, and they just might do it, that means the team with the worst record of all the playoff teams in the NL will be in the WS. SL. the 2nd wildcard team, was 88-75 (.543) this year and are where they are due to the silly “infield fly rule” partly. The Braves played poor defense but may have come back except for that. Here’s hoping a similar play pops up somewhere along the line in the NL or AL playoffs, or perhaps the WS. Would like to see how it will be called if it’s the Yankees at bat when it happens!
Capt. Mudd………I doubt Fredi would understand what he’s looking at if you sent him a copy…..
October 13th, 201212:45 am
Misery loves company. The Cardinals have now dealt it to both the Braves and Nationals on consecutive Friday nights, both times on the road.
And if our resident expert hadn’t told me that clutch hitting didn’t exist, I would swear the Cardinals were good at it.
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
