Wow Bobby C. That is the worst proposition I have ever seen on this blog. And that’s saying something….
Trade Freeman? Dude…leave.
October 11th, 20129:46 pm
Wait, wait, wait….trade Freeman….for BILLY BUTLER??? Holy moly.
October 11th, 20129:47 pm
id offer bourne 2 yrs at 25 million or whatever the minimum qualifying offer required to get the draft picks. id go for victorino and even go 4 years knowing , its one year too many. pagan isnt a bad choice either. a banged up david wright for 5 years 75 million wouldnt be that horrid of an offer either.id definitely start by trying to secure heyward, freeman and prado to extended contracts, locking each up til they are 33.david ross should be signed again too. moylan looked like he had good movement if location is locked in and price is reasonable. big men intimidate. all in all i’m hoping to stick around for another season of braves baseball
October 11th, 20129:50 pm
If Nate were still here he would have struck out 3 times tonight in only 2 times at bat……….and that ball against the fence would have hit him in the head and gone over the fence……………..
October 11th, 20129:53 pm
I say we trade Freeman for Brett Butler.
October 11th, 20129:55 pm
Don’t want Swisher… that cocky SOB wouldn’t mesh well in the Braves locker room
I think you’ll see FW make a qualifying offer to Bourn. He will probably also make a multi year offer that Boras will probably reject. Personally, I am hoping Bourn goes elsewhere as I really don’t like my leadoff hitter to be so inconsistent.
October 11th, 20129:59 pm
Actually, it’s too bad Nate wasn’t healthy while in Atlanta. We’re seeing the Nate McLouth today that was playing in Pittsburgh before he was traded to Atlanta.
For some to have the nerve to say he wouldn’t do well if he were back here, is ridiculous. He is under incredible pressure with the Orioles in a pennant race.
I hate it when some idiots on here get personal about these players. These guys are human beings that deserve to be shown some respect.
Our VP is a freakin joke! No class whatsoever.

“Mitt Romney Debate Interruption Highlights”
October 11th, 201210:08 pm
ok guys, cool it please on both sides.
October 11th, 2012
About a year ago, I bravely suggested here that we sign McOut to a minor league deal just to make sure.
October 11th, 201210:09 pm
I don’t like these debates. The Republicans say “grrrr!!! Everything that Democrat says is wrong and he makes me so mad!!!”
The Democrats say “grrrr!!! Everything that Republican says is wrong and he makes me so mad!!!”
And nobody’s persuaded because they already have their minds made up.

some were obviously changed by the first debate sine the polls changed a good bit
October 11th, 201210:14 pm
I know that Nate most recently hit a homerun, which in blog terms makes him the greatest hitter since Babe Ruth, but he still OPS’ed under .700 on the season
i will just chime in once on this subject.
i think i could win the election by changine my name
to none of the above
wouldnt have to spend one thin dime campaigniing
Not here too.
The general public, in general, has manure for brains….
Ignore the politics, live a better life stressing over sports instead.
October 11th, 201210:18 pm
Good to know on Nate…..
Still would’ve given him a shot to bounce back off that big injury.
Sambo 4 Rambo
October 11th, 201210:19 pm
Why not sell out for David Wright!?!?
October 11th, 201210:20 pm
y’alll need to pay more attention, I been talking about McNate’s Oriole Odyssey for weeks.
I’ve been asking a lot longer than that how the Braves could continue to play a guy with a torn abdomen muscled, without telling the public, and basically released him by putting him on the DL and demoting him.
I don’t believe much I hear from them about injuries. Already this fall we’ve got McCann saying he needs surgery and Wren saying he needs rest.
All I know is the Nate McLouth that played for the Pirates can play for the Braves if he is healthy.
Sorry to say but ernie, jr is just awful…..
Good in the studio doing basketball, but if his dad was still alive, he would wretch violently……poor guy is horrid.
October 11th, 201210:22 pm
With his postseason numbers, he’d lead our team……sigh.
October 11th, 201210:23 pm
ARod cannot catch up with a fast ball
October 11th, 201210:24 pm
ARoid = Uggla
Isn’t A-Rod locked up until around 2050?
October 11th, 201210:26 pm
Is the O’s pitcher not balking with all that bouncing around after he comes set?
October 11th, 201210:27 pm
Should have batted Ibanez again – LOL
October 11th, 201210:30 pm
Baseball should ban spitting….
October 11th, 201210:31 pm
Yanks & O’s…
nobody wants this game
Thome much quicker than Mac…..sad
October 11th, 201210:34 pm
Baltimore thinks it’s Atlanta….
October 11th, 201210:35 pm
Nate’s stats for the O’s were .268/ .342/ .435/ .777/ 111+
October 11th, 201210:36 pm
October 11th, 201210:38 pm
Just don’t remind me of nate’s stats in atl…..
October 11th, 201210:41 pm
Great column DOB! Lots of thought AND research. I agree with most of it. I had no idea about Pagan’s numbers. Didn’t know he was gonna be a FA either. Not even close as to whether to go after him or try to sign Bourn IMO. Bourn strikes out wayyyy too much for my taste.
I’m not sure I would pick up McInjured’s option. I know he’s done a lot for the franchise, but what he will do from now on is what you would look at. He is in major decline IMO. Never will be the stick he has been, and is a defensive liability. He’s tried to make himself a better fielder, but just hasn’t been able to do it. Remains lazy on blocking balls except those right in front of him. I would let him go or trade him, let Ross be my starter and have Gattis, Bethancourt, or some backup from elsewhere back Rossy up. He’s already ahead of McCann defensively and this year was better offensively also. I have always liked BMac as a player until this year, it’s just the law of diminishing returns.
Don’t believe I would go so far as trading a Delgado or Teheran for Willingham. That seems like it would be a trade that would come back to haunt the Braves since they are both 10 years or more younger than JW. I would rather go after somebody like a Tyler Colvin. The Rockies need pitching worse than anybody, so maybe their asking price wouldn’t be so high. The Braves might could get by there with a couple of their better minor league arms that will be ML ready soon. Gilmartin might be one. I would trade them Hanson in a heartbeat instead of either of those 2 young studs. Hanson’s gone to SoCal as soon as he becomes a FA anyway, so why not swap him now? Colvin seems to be growing as a player, the only question with him would be how much of his growth this year was due to the Coors Field effect. That’s it, Hanson and a minor league pitcher for Colvin.
October 11th, 201210:44 pm
David Wright is NOT. A Free Agent. The Mets have a team option on him like the Braves do on Brian McCann. The only way he’s available is by trade as the Mets aren’t going to let him go for nothing in return.
I like Willingham, wish the Braves have had sign him last year, because that guy can hit.
I would like to add a name to the list of targets. Torii Hunter. He had a pretty good year, 313 AVG 817 OPS including an 868 OPS vs lefties, still pretty solid defensively. He is 37 years old, excellent clubhouse presence, and while Angels love him and want him back as was reported I just can’t see it with Bourjous, Trout, Trumbo, Wells, and Morales as the outfielders/DH.
Torii Hunter vs Josh Willingham, obviously in terms of money and power Willingham is the better option, but defensively Torii is still much better, and he doesn’t have Willingham’s back problems.
Hunter will probably command 3 years 36 million in my opinion. I don’t think that’s an overpay, and they don’t have to trade Teheran, or Delgado to get him. I want both Hunter and Bourn.
- Michael Bourn CF 4 years 48 million.
- Torii Hunter LF 3 years 36 million.
- David Ross C 2 years 5 million.
- Reed Johnson OF 2 years 3 million.
- Peter Moylan RHP 1 year 1.2 million.
- Chad Durbin RHP 1 year 1.3 million.
- Trade for Gregg Dobbs 1.5 million
That’s a total of 32 million added to next years payroll. It depends on arb eligible players but I think Braves have around 28-32 million instead of the 22-25 DOB said, don’t know if he had added the salaries of Durbin, Diaz, Hinske, Wilson, Baker, Overbay, Moylan, Batista, Johnson, and Ross.
That’ll give ATL a great bench and a balanced lineup.
October 11th, 201210:48 pm
Basically Alex Gordon is a poor man’s left handed version of Martin Prado who isn’t as versatile as Prado (Gordon plays only left field, Prado can play just about anywhere),
And he plays a GG LF, something we’d lose if we moved Prado to 3rd. He has also played a lot of 3rd (though not as well as Prado). While he is LH, he is a .300 hitter and does have power (hit 23 HR in 2011). He’d be a good option, especially if we can get a RH centerfielder.
Gordon has played…
363 games at LF
329 games at 3B
40 games at 1B
3 games at RF
1 game at SS
October 11th, 201210:50 pm
MFIKY going 2 innings…

October 11th, 201211:00 pm
Wow, was just looking back on the old blog w/ the Uggla talk, found this.
November 13th, 2010
Tomas-You seriously believe the Marlins would trade Uggla for Dunn and Infante? Yoiu do realize that Uggla is one of only 18 players in all of MLB to hit over 30 HR? He’ll cost a hell of a lot more than Infante and a one year reliever.
So glad it worked out. Maybe, just maybe, Frank Wren can “steal” Willingham for Spruill and Salcedo.
Normally I agree with dob but I don’t want Mac at 13,swisher or Ross at all. I think we need to take a step backwards to take a giant leap in the future. I go for a trade for youth at third and try for opt from Texas. They need what we have pitching and I would trade any of it not named medlin. Then we go hard after Myers. They need again pitching and a second baseman. This will not be popular but I go Prado Hanson and a close pitching prospect. They have Gordon for left witch is what Myers plays so I would push hard for these two kids to put with Freeman and heyward. Either way I will watch are record every game next year go braves
October 11th, 201211:06 pm
Got my Giants advancing. I know a lot of folks here were pulling for the Reds. Sorry about that. But the Giants are tied for my 2nd favorite team behind the Braves.
When not playing the Braves, I have some fandom for both the Giants (lived there for 15 years) and the Rockies (closest team).
Now, I’d really love to see Oakland pull this one out tonight. Nothing against the Tigers, just don’t really see anything exciting about Detroit’s team.
But it’s gotta be the Orioles against the evil empire Yankees!! The O’s would be hard to pull against in any future series’.
October 11th, 201211:07 pm
phil is very touchy about things that bother him – but he loves the fact that his Mac hatred helped drive McFann off the blog…
October 11th, 201211:08 pm
The Royals are not going to trade Myers. You’d have to offer them Heyward plus a prospect pitcher for them to answer the phone.
October 11th, 201211:09 pm
phil has some serious issues
October 11th, 201211:11 pm
How ya doing tonight VJ?
October 11th, 201211:13 pm
phil is tolerable at times, but seems to enjoy being an azz. (we can all be that way from time to time, but we don’t all do it with such vigor!)
October 11th, 201211:21 pm
TheOnlyBravesFan lol, it actually turned out to be a fair deal, neither team won.
October 11th, 201211:22 pm
McNate put the Os on his back and carried them into the post season, he hit well, stole bases well and had a number of game winning hits. without his pickup there is a good chance they do not come back like they did
October 11th, 201211:24 pm
And he’s a free agent after this year too. But I’d think the O’s would be hard pressed to let him get away.
October 11th, 201211:25 pm
For me, it’s exciting to see a guy like Nate have a good showing. He was a class guy when he was here. It would have been nice to have seen the real McNate when he was here.
October 11th, 201211:26 pm
Gotta run folks. Battery is almost gone.
well I’m not saying we should get him, just giving the guys some props for what he accomplished this season.
October 11th, 201211:38 pm
Ok, second half of this season….
October 11th, 201211:40 pm
Jon Morosi @jonmorosi
Curtis Granderson and Robinson Cano have lower batting averages in this series than Alex Rodriguez.
October 11th, 201211:51 pm
another healthy day , can i get an amen on that
October 11th, 201211:53 pm
Nice job, O’s!
October 11th, 201211:56 pm
Amen, gary. My prayers are with you
October 11th, 201211:57 pm
Where will Nate play when Markakis comes back? I am happy for him and, IIRC, we could have gave Pittsburgh a little more and got McCutchen, right? Hindsight.
October 11th, 201211:58 pm
Amen, gary, prayers still going up for you.
October 12th, 201212:00 am
Save the 13 million on McCannand go after Hamilton or trade for Justin Upton and Sign B.J Upton.
October 12th, 201212:04 am
Tough way for the A’s season to end if this score holds up (and against Verlander, it seems like it will hold up)
DLowe the the quasi-rescue…
October 12th, 201212:06 am

October 12th, 201212:09 am

October 12th, 201212:11 am
Who the hell is this McLouth guy who plays for Baltimore?
October 12th, 201212:12 am
So if the A’s lose tonight, “Moneyball” still ain’t won jack!
October 12th, 201212:15 am
paul maholm @paul_maholm
So every series is going to a game 5. Great baseball and drama all the way around.
paul maholm @paul_maholm
“@KyleMack13: @paul_maholm But a one game playoff is the best way to decide the Wild Card. …. Riiiiiight.”no
Jon Heyman @JonHeymanCBS
Nate McLouth is the best player, A-Rod the worst. What’s going on? #crazyworld
October 12th, 201212:17 am
A healthy Nate McLouth… the one the Braves never really got to see because he got and was allowed to play hurt; later on, Jason trucked him.
October 12th, 201212:21 am
Perhaps i”m in the minority, but as long as the Moneyball mentality keeps sending stat geeks like Shaun here, i’m against the A’s. Seems they try and convince everyone that baseball players are robots who produce the same day in and day out, no matter if they are having a good day, got a good nights sleep, have the flu or their testicles are caught in a mouse trap.
Until these robots realize that stats are only a part of the game, I would prefer the Moneyball heros stay in the fantasy world of Hollywood.
If the A’s win, it will be the same to stat geeks as it would be giving a hyper kid three candy bars! Wouldn’t be something I would care to see.
October 12th, 201212:24 am
Baseball gods want a Nats-Orioles world series.
October 12th, 201212:26 am
“Who the hell is this McLouth guy who plays for Baltimore?
A healthy Nate McLouth… the one the Braves never really got to see because he got and was allowed to play hurt; later on, Jason trucked him.”
Yeah, I remember that guy that got hurt! But who was that guy who the Braves got that just flat out didn’t produce in the first half of his Braves career BEFORE he got hurt?
October 12th, 201212:27 am
been a couple of days of Great baseball. some serious good games.
October 12th, 201212:31 am
shameful thing on here.
not one, not zero gave buck props for managing around 2nd & 3rd.
pitched to AROD. did not walk him.
brought the infield in and wiff.
October 12th, 201212:43 am
murph, if you read the overnights i hope you know i enjoy your sense of humor.
October 12th, 201212:48 am
efrrim, you were very harse on N8.
October 12th, 201212:57 am
when you get so upset about what someone says on a blog, you are probably right. it is time to take some time off.
this is entertainment. nothing more. this thing is entertainment. if you take this beyond that, good luck.
October 12th, 20121:05 am
“efrrim, you were very harse on N8.”
What exactly are you talking about uga?
October 12th, 20121:10 am
yeah that McLouth guy is the one that roamed center field at the Ted prior to being run over by Heyward…………
Oh he’d catch the ball, but couldn’t get it in to second on the fly……terrible rag arm Little League non-arm…..so Baltimore puts him in left where his throws weren’t so long….Good move birds….
Congrats Nate….I’m sure you’re a good guy, you just stunk it up as a Bravo…
October 12th, 20121:11 am
n8, i thought he blasted you when you made really good points.
think about this.
if we paid 12 millon for a free agent, that was coming off a .230 .697 .ops season with our limited payroll.
what do you think the mob would say?
October 12th, 20121:13 am
Joe Biden would fit in great on this blog. He’s old, think he knows everything and scoffs at any opinion by anyone else. He could be fast tracked to join the regular guys. Not many regular girls left since McFann departed.
October 12th, 20121:14 am
25% 0f our payroll would be committed to two guys that hit sixth or seventh.
October 12th, 20121:15 am
heres hoping phils sifn either upton or bourne
October 12th, 20121:18 am
phil you drove mcfann away. all by yourself.
October 12th, 20121:19 am
Beaves will be lucky to win 76 games next year
October 12th, 20121:26 am
Not sure who Beaves is. But the 1:19 post wasn’t by me. so I’m out. Seriously. Any post by “N8″ after this one isn’t me.
uga, thanks for the “support”. Glad you see the angle as me simply not being a hater.
Efrim’s entitled to his opinion. No worries.
But your angle and example is dead on. Which was precisely my point. If Mac rebounds, everybody is right. 12 million is a steal and the braves “win”. If he doesn’t rebound or misses significant time, it’s a major blow to their division title hopes.
October 12th, 20121:27 am
One more I guess. The blogger at 1:19. Your comment and likely your IP address have been reported. Hope you had fun.
October 12th, 20121:34 am
n8, what your are not a beaves fan?
October 12th, 20121:37 am
