Something about the Braves being entreched in a humongous losing streak. Something about how Bobby Cox is responsible for our losing ways, the economy, and the War of 1812
I could be wrong, but from what I saw I was really the first one on here almost constantly complaining on the one game playoff weeks back. I had this sick feeling about it then and when all the nightmare was unfolding I was calm and cool watching it. Actually expected it. You’re throwing so much pressure on players, especially the more inexperienced postseason team like the Braves. It went about what I expected aside from CJ’s error and the blown ump call.
N8 is right on the Greinke deal. Guy reeks of Perez, Zito, billingsly, Lowe type of bad contract……We need a right handed power bat that Uggla is supposed to be. I was a guy who thought Uggla would rebound to norms this year but obviously that did not happen…..I’d still would not eat his salary because he still has some power but he is not middle of the line up RH bat we need….especially with Chipper not being the only real other RH option in that regard.
Love to see the talent of Hamilton but he is not a braves kind of player…..no should they spend that kind of money. …..
I
I think the Braves should target Justin Upton. I think his 31 HR last year was kind of above what to epect, but 20 bombs and decent about SB seems good……
The Braves aren’t the only team that made an error last night.
The Cardinals let a fly ball drop in left field.
It was an error whether it was called an error or not.
They still won the game. They were able to overcome it.
For anybody to say the Braves couldn’t have come back and won the game in spite of everything, they obviously were in a coma on May 2nd and September 2nd.
That was our best chance. Sam Holbrook took it from us.
It’s just sad the Braves took it lying down.
They obviously don’t believe in themselves half as much as their fans do.
We don’t need any more offense than we already have.
We have a guy at second base who spent the first years of his career in Florida crushing us but who now probably couldn’t even make contact playing Whack-A-Mole.
Anybody who comes here is just going to do worse than they’ve done elsewhere.
We may not need/afford Greinke. But we do need another pitcher.
Hudson, Medlen, Minor, Maholm, Delgado is our opening day rotation right now. And for 2014 it is Medlen, Minor, Beachy, Delgado, unknown. Not very impressive. And, I’d rather get a pitcher this offseason than next. The 2014 FA class isn’t very deep with SP.
Braves could be very, very good next year. The moves this offseason will obviously be crucial but we have a dynamic young core returning and we should have plenty of fire coming into next year. I hope the braves can come back with fire and a chip on their shoulder.

The Braves might be fairly good next yr, but you have to replace Bourn in CF, Chipper at third and you also have to take into account that Philly cannot be as mediocre as they were next yr.

Disgusted,
I totally agree with you on Bourn. He strikes out way too much for a leadoff hitter and his speed is already on the decline. A three year deal would make sense but now way Boras would go for that
I think there are going to be a whole lot of disappointed fans on here this winter, if some of y’all really think they are going to do as much as you say you want.
US Navy — I will tell you esxanctly what happened in Columbia tonight.
An overrated team (particualarly on defense) got showed up by a better team, a better program and a better coach.
It is no surprise that the GA Bulldogs came up short in a game where they had an opponent that mattered — very typical of the Mark Richt era. Aaron Murray is overrated, as overrated as Stafford was here. We will NEVER be a real NAt championship team. It is biologically impossible. It cannot happen, this GA program for all the hype is overrated garbage. Second rate coach second rate team and lousy defense, overrated athletes.
I think there are going to be a whole lot of disappointed fans on here this winter, if some of y’all really think they are going to do as much as you say you want.
Sneaky Pete — this is one time I will agree with you. Management will go cheap. That is Liberty Media’s MO. And the Braves will be competitive again — I don’t think they have another 94 win season net yr. Alot went right this yr — some things you may not count on next yr.
There is some need for real repair for this team to be a 94 to 96 W team again. See them as more of a mid 80’s W team.
Even if they get back in the WC again we will lose again
I believed that we would have a long post season run but unlike the old Who song,
“I got fooled again”. Next yr if they get in “I won’t be fooled again”. I will never be suckered into believing again. THERE IS NO HOPE. THIS TEAM IS POST SEASON CURSED AND CANNOT EVER WIN AGAIN. NOT FOR A THOUSSEAND YRS
“Would Yadir Molina be talking so bold had the Umps not been on their side.”
I think, and I’m sure many of you do to, that the Ross swing and miss was a pretty late time out that put 2 runs on the board with the very next pitch.
Yadier was right, we came out tight, striking out like crazy and pressing on D. We played to lose.
Was the call a rally killer? Sure. A McCann double play was a possible (likely?) outcome as well.
Bourn was pretty much the guys he has always been, Great defense, fair amount of steals, and an average hitter at best. I can’t say he was a bust. It was disappointing that he fell off so much in the second half, but regression to the mean suggested that he would.
He did get caught stealing too often IMO
I have been rooting for the team that won the Super Bowl last year for 50 years – that has no effect on how I watch games, or react to them this year. When Eli throws a dumb pick in the end zone, I don’t think, “It doesn’t matter – we won it all last year so all is forgiven”…every game is a new game to enjoy and/or be annoyed by. So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past…
I would like Bourne back if he is not too expensive. Gets caught stealing a lot. Don’t think so! His percentage of success is acceptaable.
Very good outfielder with one exception—–when he gets close to the outfield wall. He has a real fear of the wall.
since coming to Atlanta he is 64 and 20, those are much worse numbers than he used to have, and he STILL has never scored 100 runs. not so hot for a leadoff hitter
Sneaky Pete—that’s a 76 percent success rate. Not bad at all. He had a higher one in Houston? I’m sure, it was because he didnt get the same attention from pitchers —Astros were going to lose anyway
I don’t want Bourn back beucase of his doing nothing in the second half — he fell apart and is no longer a good player in my book.
I would also call Simmons on the carpet for his two buffon plays in the WC game. He should be Booed on opening day. We could have gotten as good of play out of either Janish or even Jack Wilson. He (Simmons) made a mistake that Jack Wilson might not have made.
I’d rather have a new owner and a new manager than a new ballpark. Seeing Ted Turner in the stands yesterday reminded me of the days when we traded for the likes of Fred McGriff and our free agent signees were the caliber of Greg Maddux.
We did well in the 2nd half and Bourn hit .225. Bourjos may not be so bad. He’s pretty good defensively. Not as good as Bourn, but he’s solid, and is younger. Based on defensive metrics, if he played the same number of innings as Bourn did, he’d be worth +24 Rtot and +24 Rdrs. Bourn was worth +38 and +24, respectively.
We have 8 pitchers capable of being in our starting rotation. Well, 7 1/2 if you count Hanson. So we have something to trade for some offensive help in the outfield, if Wren wants to go that route.
And I don’t see why not
As usual my expectations for this team’s offseason acquisitions are very modest. Cheap is the word. And this organization’s continuing obsession with miraculously putting together another rotation as good as Maddux/Glavine/Smoltz (which won’t happen) is wearing thin.
A little late to the party, I know….story of my life.
The boys just can’t hit when it means something (not you Marteen). Lack of hitting cost us the game no doubt. You can overcome errors. You can overcome bad calls. But
HOLY CRAP!!!! That was the worst call in history! Yes even worse than Hrbek throwing Gant off first base.
It’s like calling a home run to center field a foul ball
After this weekend I need a two hour massage … Or an hour of zen… Or… Yeah another beer will be good
By the way…….went to Pittsburgh for Wednesday .game. Saw JV and big red in the casino..JV didn’t seem to know his nickname is ‘Everyday’……they were both very gracious and approachable.
I’ve said my piece….good night all
uga…..depressing to see the Dawgs record against top 25 teams…….we just beat up on the patsies for the most part…..been that way for 5 or 6 years now….we looked unprepared tonite for Ol’ Ball Coach…
Just read Mitchells post at the top of the page (and my last post…wow it’s after two!).
Joes been my favorite since Skip died but him saying th “Atlanta fans are embarrassing themselves”. Was absolute horse feathers! They absolutely should have pelted the field after that crap call. They should have been embarrassed if they hadn’t!
Bill O’Brien winning them over at your wife’s Homecoming dance. 7 and 5 would be a success. More wins would be Coach of Year worthy under the circumstances.
Meanwhile, cheap whiskey and caplocks on the G blogs.
richbrave – That’d be great, but keep in mind, your hobby would become your business. You don’t want to see the caplocks. No one is immune. Use the Boy Scout motto.
…but, if it happens. I want dirt. The inside stuff. Gossip. Speculation. Off the record, of course.
Typical ATL sports team — good reg season and choke up in the playoffs.
As bad an ump as Sak Holbrook is and that call it was the kick the can defense that cost em this WC game. Not to mention the lack of situational hitting with men on base.
Another wasted yr.
This reminded me of that series vs Arizona in 01when they lost the NLCS cause of kick the can defense. And that yr was the last playoff series they wills ever win cause this city will never see a post season series win again.
I cannot say that I am really excited about any of the rest of the post season — will watch some but not go out of my way with the rest of this post season baseball.
Football is the thing for now till the NBA mid season.

Only positive for me is that the ‘Noles are likely to win. But if those Falcons lose, and look bad doing so, damn, something will get destroyed.

since coming to Atlanta he is 64 and 20, those are much worse numbers than he used to have, and he STILL has never scored 100 runs. not so hot for a leadoff hitter

Jack Wilson > Andrelton Simmons

We really need a new stadium.

Falcons will join the club and come up with loss number one for the yr.
They will be one and done in the postseason again. They will find a way to disappoint you as always. There is NO HOPE!!!!!!!!!

Mark Richt sucks. Paul Johnson sucks too.
We have the two worst coaches in college football
I would fire Richt and bring in a proven winner in Bobby Petrino who is available.
I’d rather win with Jack the Ripper than lose with Mother Teresa.

Bill O’Brien winning them over at your wife’s Homecoming dance. 7 and 5 would be a success. More wins would be Coach of Year worthy under the circumstances.
