Wait, what did Joe Simpson do or say?
I’ve heard some comments about him but I take it he was critical of fans throwing stuff on the field.
October 6th, 20129:37 pm
UGA looking bad tonight… such a shame. I thought they could do something special this year.
Only positive for me is that the ‘Noles are likely to win. But if those Falcons lose, and look bad doing so, damn, something will get destroyed.
October 6th, 20129:39 pm
Wait, what did Mitchell do or say?
Something about the Braves being entreched in a humongous losing streak. Something about how Bobby Cox is responsible for our losing ways, the economy, and the War of 1812
October 6th, 20129:42 pm
1812 Overture FTW though!
Yeah Wren is right.
I could be wrong, but from what I saw I was really the first one on here almost constantly complaining on the one game playoff weeks back. I had this sick feeling about it then and when all the nightmare was unfolding I was calm and cool watching it. Actually expected it. You’re throwing so much pressure on players, especially the more inexperienced postseason team like the Braves. It went about what I expected aside from CJ’s error and the blown ump call.

Not sure if anyone posted this very ironic tidbit yesterday or today -

N8 is right on the Greinke deal. Guy reeks of Perez, Zito, billingsly, Lowe type of bad contract……We need a right handed power bat that Uggla is supposed to be. I was a guy who thought Uggla would rebound to norms this year but obviously that did not happen…..I’d still would not eat his salary because he still has some power but he is not middle of the line up RH bat we need….especially with Chipper not being the only real other RH option in that regard.
Love to see the talent of Hamilton but he is not a braves kind of player…..no should they spend that kind of money. …..
I think the Braves should target Justin Upton. I think his 31 HR last year was kind of above what to epect, but 20 bombs and decent about SB seems good……
October 6th, 201210:01 pm
The Braves aren’t the only team that made an error last night.
The Cardinals let a fly ball drop in left field.
It was an error whether it was called an error or not.
They still won the game. They were able to overcome it.
For anybody to say the Braves couldn’t have come back and won the game in spite of everything, they obviously were in a coma on May 2nd and September 2nd.
That was our best chance. Sam Holbrook took it from us.
It’s just sad the Braves took it lying down.
They obviously don’t believe in themselves half as much as their fans do.
Nice find, Soph.
October 6th, 201210:02 pm
We don’t need Greinke. We need offense. Particularly from the right side of the plate.
October 6th, 201210:04 pm
Sam Holbrook, a minor-league umpire who often fills in for vacationing major-league umps…
That sounds about right.
October 6th, 201210:09 pm
We don’t need any more offense than we already have.
We have a guy at second base who spent the first years of his career in Florida crushing us but who now probably couldn’t even make contact playing Whack-A-Mole.
Anybody who comes here is just going to do worse than they’ve done elsewhere.
It doesn’t matter.
We may not need/afford Greinke. But we do need another pitcher.
Hudson, Medlen, Minor, Maholm, Delgado is our opening day rotation right now. And for 2014 it is Medlen, Minor, Beachy, Delgado, unknown. Not very impressive. And, I’d rather get a pitcher this offseason than next. The 2014 FA class isn’t very deep with SP.
October 6th, 201210:10 pm
Vandy beats Missouri. Missouri might have to re-think that cake walk SEC schedule they thought they were gettig.
October 6th, 201210:13 pm
“We don’t need Greinke. We need offense. Particularly from the right side of the plate.”
Nah, we got Uggla to provide… oh wait… we still need power from the right side.
Too bad Uggla is getting paid most of our cheese.
October 6th, 201210:16 pm
October 6th, 201210:18 pm
You can keep Bourn he is not worth it.
Useless down the stretch — we need a better player in CF.
October 5th, 2012 – 4:23 pm
Pimp the Cards out!
This did not happen. It was the Braves who got tricked out.
October 6th, 201210:19 pm
Another disgusting performance by UGA.
The defense was way overrated. Another second rate season.
Ric Flair To Right
October 6th, 201210:21 pm
Yadi Molina quote “we played to win, thy played to lose”
October 6th, 201210:25 pm
He’s a smug one, but, he’s not wrong.
October 6th, 201210:35 pm
Braves could be very, very good next year. The moves this offseason will obviously be crucial but we have a dynamic young core returning and we should have plenty of fire coming into next year. I hope the braves can come back with fire and a chip on their shoulder.
October 6th, 201210:39 pm
If McCann truly has a torn labrum that needs repair there is no way he is back in 2 months.
If the labrum is just frayed or minimally torn, the surgeon can likely drain the cyst, clean up the shoulder a little, then 2-3 months is more realistic. If the labrum is torn and all they do is drain the cyst, the cyst may reoccur, the label tear may worsen, etc., requiring surgery that will cause him to miss at least a season
October 6th, 201210:50 pm
they are pretty unlikely to add a starting pitcher , especially a top of the order one . replacing Bourn and Chipper is as much as they can hope to do, like Frank said
The Braves might be fairly good next yr, but you have to replace Bourn in CF, Chipper at third and you also have to take into account that Philly cannot be as mediocre as they were next yr.
They will be back.
This was their yr of opportunity and once again same old post season results. The Braves should matter again but there will be challenges to obtain another post sesason chance.
And Washington is not going anywhre. I am not worried about Miami or the Mets for a while.
One thing that potentially will hold the development of this young nucleus is the mediocre payroll we have & after this WC game I am not so sold on Simmons now.
Simmons deserves to be Booed for that POS game he played last night. He is on my S list. He is a useless BUMB. He sucks. Made big mistakes in that WC game.
I wish nothing but bad luck to STL. Go Nats Go. I am glad to be a Nats fan for now. Anyone byt STL.
I woould even root for the Yankees over STL. I don’t think they are all that good, they are more lucky than anything. They were not that great in 06 either. Just got a few breaks and a bit of luck in post season.
October 6th, 201210:52 pm
Also note we HAVE to replace the useless Homer Hanson too.
What a bust of a prospect — the Aundray Bruce or Bruce Pickens of the Braves lore.
October 6th, 201210:54 pm
Brian – I suggest the Braves make all those moves before picking up any option or signing any long term contract. This is without a doubt the most important issue to be settled first in the Braves off season.
October 6th, 201210:56 pm
Why are Frank Wren and Brain McCann not on the same page about the shoulder injury. DOB’s story says McCann thinks he probably needs surgery. Wren says from what we know, he just needs rest.
Is McCann going to two different doctors?
Surgery or no surgery—that is the question. That or something similar, should have been your lead, DOB.
Would Yadir Molina be talking so bold had the Umps not been on their side.
It was not all on the umps but bottom line is we did not take advantage of opportunities.
Just shut up take your win and I hope you lose to the Nats.
If Molina gets a few bad brakes down the road — like a career decline I won’t wish he get injured but won’t cry about it ether.
October 6th, 201210:57 pm
I totally agree with you on Bourn. He strikes out way too much for a leadoff hitter and his speed is already on the decline. A three year deal would make sense but now way Boras would go for that
October 6th, 201210:59 pm
I don’t matter anyway cause we were going to lose anyway.
Why bother as fans we can’t doo anything about it but I hate this team now. I have no respect for these BUMBs for last night.
Garbage — a roster full of garbage.
Face it, the Winnipeg Jets will get a championship before ANY of our pro or major college teams have a slither of a chance for one. There is NO hope.
Optomisim and spirit is useless for this city
I was sorry to see DOB got rid of the moniker-stealer – I was hoping to come home and make fun of people and call them morons and…oh, wait…
October 6th, 201211:00 pm
I think there are going to be a whole lot of disappointed fans on here this winter, if some of y’all really think they are going to do as much as you say you want.
Damn. What happened in Columbia tonight?
October 6th, 201211:04 pm
US Navy — I will tell you esxanctly what happened in Columbia tonight.
An overrated team (particualarly on defense) got showed up by a better team, a better program and a better coach.
It is no surprise that the GA Bulldogs came up short in a game where they had an opponent that mattered — very typical of the Mark Richt era. Aaron Murray is overrated, as overrated as Stafford was here. We will NEVER be a real NAt championship team. It is biologically impossible. It cannot happen, this GA program for all the hype is overrated garbage. Second rate coach second rate team and lousy defense, overrated athletes.
Lot season — ITs over.
October 6th, 201211:06 pm
If FSU gets upset today after Atlanta yesterday, nolie will really be depressed
October 6th, 201211:08 pm
Sneaky Pete — this is one time I will agree with you. Management will go cheap. That is Liberty Media’s MO. And the Braves will be competitive again — I don’t think they have another 94 win season net yr. Alot went right this yr — some things you may not count on next yr.
There is some need for real repair for this team to be a 94 to 96 W team again. See them as more of a mid 80’s W team.
Even if they get back in the WC again we will lose again
October 6th, 201211:10 pm
I believed that we would have a long post season run but unlike the old Who song,
“I got fooled again”. Next yr if they get in “I won’t be fooled again”. I will never be suckered into believing again. THERE IS NO HOPE. THIS TEAM IS POST SEASON CURSED AND CANNOT EVER WIN AGAIN. NOT FOR A THOUSSEAND YRS
October 6th, 201211:13 pm
Billy Walsh — With the way Bourn flopped at the end I am not sure I want him back at all.
I almost would be happy to see this team go and join out old hockey team in Winnipeg, they do not have baseball.
And do not expect this yrs power numbers from Bourn. He was a big flop this yr the way I look at itl
October 6th, 201211:14 pm
“Would Yadir Molina be talking so bold had the Umps not been on their side.”
I think, and I’m sure many of you do to, that the Ross swing and miss was a pretty late time out that put 2 runs on the board with the very next pitch.
Yadier was right, we came out tight, striking out like crazy and pressing on D. We played to lose.
Was the call a rally killer? Sure. A McCann double play was a possible (likely?) outcome as well.
UGA will not fool me again. UGA fans should be through with them — they have disappointed you too many times.
I am switching to the Gators.
October 6th, 201211:16 pm
Bourn was pretty much the guys he has always been, Great defense, fair amount of steals, and an average hitter at best. I can’t say he was a bust. It was disappointing that he fell off so much in the second half, but regression to the mean suggested that he would.
He did get caught stealing too often IMO
October 6th, 201211:18 pm
I hope Yadir Molina keeps on talking if the Nats come out and take them down.
Most mediocre WS champion ever. I wish in my heart that STL would go through what the fans is Pittsburgh and KC have gone through for the last 20 yrs.
October 6th, 201211:20 pm
October 6th, 201211:21 pm
That is a fair assessment in Bourn’s yr and a half here Sneaky Pete — but I will laugh if another dumb team gives him an overpaid contact.
I want to move on from him and get a better hitter in there. He is overrated as a base stealer cause he gets CS too much.
October 6th, 201211:22 pm
Mark RIcht is not the answer to do something special.
Okay coach, okay record, no chance for a championship.
October 6th, 201211:26 pm
I hate Turner Field — second rate ballpark and a pst season curse for the team, if you want to call this a home team.
October 6th, 201211:27 pm
The Ted must be built over a burial ground
I have been rooting for the team that won the Super Bowl last year for 50 years – that has no effect on how I watch games, or react to them this year. When Eli throws a dumb pick in the end zone, I don’t think, “It doesn’t matter – we won it all last year so all is forgiven”…every game is a new game to enjoy and/or be annoyed by. So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past…
October 6th, 201211:29 pm
What a weekend in Georgia. Braves, Tech and UGA all lose. Hope the Falcons can win.
October 6th, 201211:31 pm
FSU loses and this is going to be a hideous weekend for you TOBF with the Braves, the Dawgs and the Noles all losing.
I would like Bourne back if he is not too expensive. Gets caught stealing a lot. Don’t think so! His percentage of success is acceptaable.
Very good outfielder with one exception—–when he gets close to the outfield wall. He has a real fear of the wall.
October 6th, 201211:34 pm
They need a FG quick… Falcons better win tomorrow, or else!
October 6th, 201211:35 pm
since coming to Atlanta he is 64 and 20, those are much worse numbers than he used to have, and he STILL has never scored 100 runs. not so hot for a leadoff hitter
Braveheart @ 6:46 PM
I just saw your post. Thanks for the insight there. I hope your ankle gets better.

October 6th, 201211:39 pm
You pointy-headed intellectuals and your literary references…
October 6th, 201211:40 pm
Great weekend so far….
Sneaky Pete—that’s a 76 percent success rate. Not bad at all. He had a higher one in Houston? I’m sure, it was because he didnt get the same attention from pitchers —Astros were going to lose anyway
October 6th, 201211:44 pm
I know its not all that bad, I was comparing it to what he used to do for years, I think he is slowing down.
October 6th, 201211:46 pm
I don’t want Bourn back beucase of his doing nothing in the second half — he fell apart and is no longer a good player in my book.
I would also call Simmons on the carpet for his two buffon plays in the WC game. He should be Booed on opening day. We could have gotten as good of play out of either Janish or even Jack Wilson. He (Simmons) made a mistake that Jack Wilson might not have made.
Jack Wilson > Andrelton Simmons
October 6th, 201211:48 pm
Turner Field really sucks — might be the worst of the newer ballparks.
We really need a new stadium.
October 6th, 201211:49 pm
I better go talk to nolie. Like a lot of too bright people, he has his quirks. He is prone to depression.
October 6th, 201211:51 pm
Falcons will join the club and come up with loss number one for the yr.
They will be one and done in the postseason again. They will find a way to disappoint you as always. There is NO HOPE!!!!!!!!!
ATL = Purgatory for sports fans.

I was wrong………Ol’ Ball Coach stuck it up our ass tonite……

October 7th, 201212:02 am
Mark Richt sucks. Paul Johnson sucks too.
We have the two worst coaches in college football
I would fire Richt and bring in a proven winner in Bobby Petrino who is available.
I’d rather win with Jack the Ripper than lose with Mother Teresa.
October 7th, 201212:11 am
Good to know for certain those fellow bloggers who possess the moral fiber of a flea…
October 7th, 201212:13 am
Disgusted— ease up on Simmons a little. He’s a rookie. Iff you’re going to get mad, get mad at the veterans who f**** up—-Chipper and Uggla
braves official new logo
October 7th, 201212:18 am
Bourne is 29. I don’t think he’s slowing down. He FLIES around the bases
October 7th, 201212:22 am
I’d rather have a new owner and a new manager than a new ballpark. Seeing Ted Turner in the stands yesterday reminded me of the days when we traded for the likes of Fred McGriff and our free agent signees were the caliber of Greg Maddux.
October 7th, 201212:29 am
kinda fiuny here i knew when chipper threw the ball away it would be a lost weekend.
October 7th, 201212:37 am
We did well in the 2nd half and Bourn hit .225. Bourjos may not be so bad. He’s pretty good defensively. Not as good as Bourn, but he’s solid, and is younger. Based on defensive metrics, if he played the same number of innings as Bourn did, he’d be worth +24 Rtot and +24 Rdrs. Bourn was worth +38 and +24, respectively.
October 7th, 201212:41 am
we cant go into next season with our offense designed around freddie and heyward.
no way we pick up macc’s option and hope he is better. l
October 7th, 201212:44 am
sign b.j. upton. trade palyers for justin upton. get some right handed bats in here.
screw signing another pitcher.
keep eric O./
October 7th, 201212:47 am
it is very doable. just gotta not pick macc’s option.
October 7th, 201212:50 am
trade delagdo and tehearn .
October 7th, 201212:57 am
We have 8 pitchers capable of being in our starting rotation. Well, 7 1/2 if you count Hanson. So we have something to trade for some offensive help in the outfield, if Wren wants to go that route.
And I don’t see why not
October 7th, 20121:35 am
Great comment Jim, moral fiber of a flea.
October 7th, 20121:36 am
No Mas for the Noles, LSU and UGA.
October 7th, 20121:38 am
At least, some of us have the Falcons to root for, tomorrow. Hopefully, they win.
October 7th, 20121:43 am
welcome to atlanta. nobody wins here.
October 7th, 20121:48 am
As usual my expectations for this team’s offseason acquisitions are very modest. Cheap is the word. And this organization’s continuing obsession with miraculously putting together another rotation as good as Maddux/Glavine/Smoltz (which won’t happen) is wearing thin.
October 7th, 20122:03 am
A little late to the party, I know….story of my life.
The boys just can’t hit when it means something (not you Marteen). Lack of hitting cost us the game no doubt. You can overcome errors. You can overcome bad calls. But
HOLY CRAP!!!! That was the worst call in history! Yes even worse than Hrbek throwing Gant off first base.
It’s like calling a home run to center field a foul ball
After this weekend I need a two hour massage … Or an hour of zen… Or… Yeah another beer will be good
By the way…….went to Pittsburgh for Wednesday .game. Saw JV and big red in the casino..JV didn’t seem to know his nickname is ‘Everyday’……they were both very gracious and approachable.
I’ve said my piece….good night all
uga…..depressing to see the Dawgs record against top 25 teams…….we just beat up on the patsies for the most part…..been that way for 5 or 6 years now….we looked unprepared tonite for Ol’ Ball Coach…
October 7th, 20122:09 am
BTW….Aaron Murray has still not beaten a ranked team
October 7th, 20122:10 am
Last one out turn out the lights the party is over.
October 7th, 20122:21 am
Just read Mitchells post at the top of the page (and my last post…wow it’s after two!).
Joes been my favorite since Skip died but him saying th “Atlanta fans are embarrassing themselves”. Was absolute horse feathers! They absolutely should have pelted the field after that crap call. They should have been embarrassed if they hadn’t!

The “tap it brothers”?
October 7th, 20122:38 am
Hello Ward……..goodnight Ward
Goodnight uga…….maybe we’ll win something someday
October 7th, 20124:46 am
Things a little quiet this a.m. Early off-season this year. With 94 wins I expected more. I want a sweep of the CARDS and NATS next season. Go BRAVOS
Maybe my grandson will be in the minors by then, maybe not. We’ll see. Love it if he were a BRAVE.
October 7th, 20126:34 am
Bill O’Brien winning them over at your wife’s Homecoming dance. 7 and 5 would be a success. More wins would be Coach of Year worthy under the circumstances.
Meanwhile, cheap whiskey and caplocks on the G blogs.
October 7th, 20127:01 am
Love it if he were a BRAVE
richbrave – That’d be great, but keep in mind, your hobby would become your business. You don’t want to see the caplocks. No one is immune. Use the Boy Scout motto.
…but, if it happens. I want dirt. The inside stuff. Gossip. Speculation. Off the record, of course.
October 7th, 20128:03 am
Tater, looks like Cheez-its ain’t nothing without Cam
October 7th, 20128:19 am
Typical ATL sports team — good reg season and choke up in the playoffs.
As bad an ump as Sak Holbrook is and that call it was the kick the can defense that cost em this WC game. Not to mention the lack of situational hitting with men on base.
Another wasted yr.
This reminded me of that series vs Arizona in 01when they lost the NLCS cause of kick the can defense. And that yr was the last playoff series they wills ever win cause this city will never see a post season series win again.
October 7th, 20128:21 am
Medlen is just another good reg season so so post season pitcher.
Like what we hav had in the past.
Today its gear up for a Falcon loss today.
And the Hawks are comming in to disapoint soon.
Only the Winnipeg Jets can save us. (sarcasim)
October 7th, 20128:24 am
I cannot say that I am really excited about any of the rest of the post season — will watch some but not go out of my way with the rest of this post season baseball.
Football is the thing for now till the NBA mid season.
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
