Anders, that’s easy. It’s a play-in game, and MLB does not give a whit about the Braves. The Cardinals represent an entire midwestern region. Hell, even most southern Illinois residents are Cards fans. With Texas gone, no LA teams, one NY team, and little else…
Stick it to the Braves and let the NL version of the Yankees (winningest WS champs in the NL) go in. I DO believe in that sort of crap going on. Baseball is STARVED for ratings, and the Cards will bring the midwest in droves.

Easy before any credibility you may have is gone. These two posts are foolish.
It was a bad call, shocking that an mlb ump would stick to his guns and act like nothing even questionable happened. Anyway, the braves baked the three layer(one for each error) and the ump just iced it. happy celebrations cards, you earned it, I guess. A win is a win, even if its donated. Hey had it been the other way around, I would have gladly accepted such a generous gift.
I hate this new format. Said it soon as I realized it wasn’t a true wildcard round. Still feel the easiest solution is to either give a weekend bye to the best team in each league and have the wildcard teams face off against the other division winners for a three game set,all 3 games played at the division winners place(is that a big enough disadvantage for the wc team mr torre, never understood the obsession with punishing a team that usually because of geography finishes 2nd most times to the best team in the league in a very tough division yet a team who wins a weak division is rewarded). This to me rewards the team who performed the best through the year and rewards division winners and puts the wc teams at a disadvantage. My two cents.
If I’m not mistaken, Chipper’s retirement puts the final cap on the 90s Braves dynasty.
How did the 90s Braves icons “go out …”
Maddux … on his own terms
Glavine … injured, tries to come back, gets into a big squabble with the Braves FO that had moved on
Smoltz … injured, tries to come back, gets into a big squabble with the Braves FO, plays poorly for Sox and Cards
Bobby Cox … takes team to its last NLDS, gets the grand retirement tour, watches Brooks “RockHands” Conrad bobble away the NLDS.
Chipper Jones … comes back from injury, has a great first 3/4’s of a season, fades away in the last 1/4, makes critical error that costs the Braves a trip to the NLDS.
The 90s Braves dynasty was so awesome that its momentum carried this team through the first decade of the new millennium.
Sad night, not much sleep. Sad for Chipper. Sad for Bourn if he leaves. Tough way to lose.
I do want this question answered. Do players have to tag up on the infield fly? I’m confused why the runners were on 2nd and 3rd after, and not 1st and 2nd.
I would appreciate if the guy or gal who posted under my name at 12:59 would act like an adult and use their own moniker to address someone. Please and thankyou.
Alright, you can have the username Trey, if you wish. I will just change my username, and I will tell those who blog on here, that have my facebook account what the name is, so they know which one I am. Adios.
I stated at the start of the season this team was not playoff material and if they happened to make it,it
would be the worst thing to happen for the Braves!
Now we are stuck with FG, and Wren is going to go status quo in the rotation, all the while believing That no account scrum at 2B is going to come around.Folks this team is in need of a xo
pletw overhaul sans the bullpen!
The batter is only “called” out as to protect the runners, so the defender doesn’t drop it purposely to start a double play (as runners will hold with a pop fly on the infield.
The runners are allowed to advance at their own risk. So since the ball isn’t actually caught, they don’t haveto tag. If the defender catches the ball, then like any other fly ball, they must tag before advancing.
Hey DOB, I was reading an article about the call yesterday on USA today and found this blurb in it -
As the postgame press conference with Torre and the umpires aired in the Braves clubhouse, several players muttered as answers were given. When Torre was asked his opinion of the call if he were a manager in the Braves’ situation, one of the players shouted, “Tell the truth!”
Just curious, were you in there to witness which Braves player shouted that?
Laying aside all the foolish blather about last night,Hudson should have been on the mound, the team has been too lucky in all those Medley starts. Frediot went too far with the luck pushing.Jones at 3byou with cranky knees and that brickheaded doofass Uggla in the damn lineup. Somehow someway Frediot has to go!
Excellent point. If it truly was a pop up out, then wouldn’t the runners then have to be returned to their original bases? Or wouldn’t they have to tag up to advance?
Still looking for that apology from MLB.
And John Schuerholz should have some sort of understanding of how frustrating that call was for the fans.
But I am sorry folks, to try to expand that display of frustration to some sort of overall frustration with the team and their performance over the past 10-15 years is simply not true. Fans weren’t throwing cups of beer on the field because of Braves ownership, it was because an ump made a terrible call. To say that it meant more is simply not true.
I gotta say stl has a heck of a ss because that would have been the most impressive dp I’ve ever seen called, even with help from the ajacent lf player. Gotta protect the runners from the threat of a non-linedrive fly ball dp being turned by the left fielder. Would have loved to hear Chip make that call.
Hello everyone! Good day today, and great day for College Football. In all reality the Braves had one heck of a season, and exciting one. We sign Bourn keep Uggla, move Prado to 3rd base, and sign a LF with power. Braves have the pitching just need a couple of bats now, and a few tweaks on the bench. Braves have reason to be back again.

phil – I’m not going to whin about things….. It’s time to move on, and look forward to see what the Braves can do this winter meeting. That’s my focus, and will root for the A’s this year in the Postseason.
phil – So be like a child then…… Doesn’t make sense. Calls happen, and can’t change them. Just ask the Pirates last year….. I will however not watch one Cards game though. We can either move on, or let year stress level , and age go way up. Life moves on……
back for a sec. ignor that 1:48pm post. That was imposter. it appear swe have a child who can’t grow up, and get a life. Peace out, and “Go!!!!!Braves!!!!!”
“Gotta protect the runners from the threat of a non-linedrive fly ball dp being turned by the left fielder.”
Not sure if you meant this as sarcasm. However, many times, an outfielder makes a great catch coming in and throws a runner out. Runner goes half-way so that he can either advance (ball drops) or returns (ball is caught).
I’ve never seen such a double play on a ball hit to the part of the field where last night’s Texas leaguer went.
I think wirh Upton/Pagan will be better….offer Bourn some money like 3 Mill so we can have a Draft Pick next year and he can sign with anyone. No need a K guy in the line up……we need OBP guy…
The fans showed up last night. Vented their frustrations and now what? More letters from the front office telling us it was a disappointing end to the season but keep on buying those season tickets. They might give us 50 percent off food next season.
Nevermind, DOB scratch my question earlier. I misread and thought the unnamed Braves player shouted it directly to Torre, sounds like they shouted it at a TV in the clubhouse.
JOE TORRE is BUDS right hand man, so what ruleing would you exspect JOE TORRE to make? Of course he would not approve the protest. FREDI said they handled his protest well. FREDI IS A SPINELESS WIMP.
Simpson never has anything to offer in the booth. Nothing. Zero. Same old BS butt sniffing comments game after game after game. He MIGHT say something a little funny once in a while. Even those get stale.
Chip is even better by a long shot and that’s pretty bad.
Does the Braves need to Fire all their coaches like Phillis do?…..We hire two Batting Coach in the off season and ours RISP went down…the last couple of month ours offense was near nothing ours Pitching carrier us to the end.
The BRAVEs should let SIMPSON go, fire him for his remarks about BRAVES FANS JOE has had thier support for years, then on national TV he knocks them. BRAVES should offer CHIPPER the job of doing “color” on the home telecasts since CHIPPER does not want to travel anymore.
You have bloggers like Trey cussing people and are allowed to continue then you have other bloggers who get banned for not agreeing with the company line on this blog?
I think that next year will be the start of the future for the Braves.
The 90s was fantastic. However, the organization was littered with untouchable guys who had earned some pretty big laurels. Needed to get all those guys out of the club-house before you can really start to see what the new direction might be.
No one in the current Braves organization has won jack-squat. They have no laurels to rest on.
J-Hey, Freddie, Andrelton, Meds, Kimbrel, Venters, O’Flaherty, even McCann, Hudson (as a Brave), Maholm, Uggla, and on and on.
There’s a lot of talent.
Starting next year, we truly see what is the Team that Frank Built. Will they be winner or loosers?
If Wren takes the winter off and sticks Constanza and Gattis in the outfield, it’s time to cancel those season tickets and MLB Extra Innings for the foreseeable future. ‘Cause the Braves are gonna stink.
If Wren signs a couple of over-priced FA (c.f., Lowe and Kawakami) then the Braves will be hamstrung for the foreseeable future and will stink as well.
If Wren makes a couple of shrewd moves and improves the team, 2013 might be an interesting year.
Easy now to become a bona fide, full-fledged Oakland A’s fan. Now there’s a baseball team for you! Go A’s, knock off the Yankees, and then take care of the Gnats, or the Cards, or the Giants, or the Reds, whoever it is. Been nice knowing ya Braves. Don’t expect any better next year, so may as well go ahead and divorce you now. Cya!
Just got done running. phil, to answer your question, I have a couple of buddies from this blog on my fb account, and of course it’ll spread like a wildfire.
i wouldnt wont to be in wrens shoes
a lot of raises come due and as lot of spots to lock up
no easy solutions when you are 30 million short in the budget department thats needed to keep up with the joneses in this division. washington is young and only a couple foolish contracts
nowhere man, I apologize for the junk spewed by “Trey”. Those comments are not coming from me. To the rest of the bloggers, and DOB, I apologize for him, too.
Well well. Well!
Moving forward to the offseason!
First let me thank 10 for his contributions.next I see filling a need in Lf, I suggest taking a look at Kendrys Morales for Tommy Hanson 2 players that have DFA on their horizon.
If possible expand that deal to include. Peter Bourgeois.
Next like it or not it is time to deal McCann …Royals,Yankees,Rangers come to mind here.my vote EOF. And McCann to Yankees for I.Nova Gary Sanchez and Mason Williams.
Forget the names and phone numbers of Diaz,Hinske, and Durban.
I would highly recommend replacing McDowell with Gil Meche as pitching coach.
Spend some cash on James Shields and let’s go next year
A coupla more points then the season is over for me too. THANKS to Rossy for earning your payand stepping up last night. Folks might have been worried about you behind the dish instead of BMac, but you handled Meds just fine and let your bat do a lot of the talking in that lineup.
Disappointed Chipper swung at the first pitch into a weak infield dribbler for the last out there in the inning. Reliever was throwing lots of balls, and with men on, why not take a few pitches and see what happens? Work the count a little deeper how ’bout it?
Interested to see what happens to my team in the off season.
THANKS to the fans last night too……….we are not to be trifled with.

I still can’t watch anymore baseball, but I hope the As and Os do well. Also hope that the jerks known as the Cardinals gets their @sses handed to them by the Nats in 4.
What’s there to do as a Braves fan now? Wait a month to hear of who we’re pursuing and who we’re willing to trade. What’s the 2015 rotation?
Where’s Holbrook? Still want to have a nice chat with him.
When you have been around for a long time you come to espect this from the braves. I hope for better. Was wanting to see another WS appearance but it wasn’t to be.
F that Schuerholz. Your team should’ve taken all the players off the field until the call was overturned.
Maybe, but what would that have accomplished? We still had a chance to do some damage. After the Mac walk, Bourn just had to put a ball in the gap and the game’s tied. The Cards were trying to give us the game. We had a good opportunity to score the inning earlier and blew it. This one hurts a lot because the ump cost us an out and a baserunner, but we still had a good shot.
Also, when you give up 4-5 extra outs to a team, you don’t really deserve to win the game.
Well, went outside today to reflect, like I often do when my teams’ season is over. Looked up at the sky. Looked around to count my blessings. WE aren’t rich (definitely not 1%ers), but I have 3 healthy children and a wonderful wife who puts up with my BS when my teams fail (fortunately, she’s out of town AND likes the Rangers); there’s more to life than baseball. I know, we love our team, we get mad when they don’t win, and after the ’90s, the team has a much higher standard to meet and rightfully so. But if you haven’t already today, log off your computer, go out, look at the world around you, and thank God (well, if you believe in God; or thank the Big Bang if you must) that we live in a place where we are free to worship (or not) as we please, that as tough as times are, they could always be worse. Live every day of your life like it’s your last. I spent some quality time with the kids today. Enjoyed every minute of it. Didn’t think about baseball one bit. Just enjoyed the day.
Please understand, I’m not lecturing. I have many times lost perspective, but today it hit me…why worry about a stupid game when there is so much pain in the world?
OK, enough rambling. You guys are the greatest (yes, even Mitchell); believe it or not, the one or two (or more) laughs I get reading posts on this blog help me get through the day some times. God bless
phil,
I did look up at the sky and told my brother, “Dude, throw me a bone. You’re in with The Big Guy, and you couldn’t even muster up some help for our team last night (my brother was probably even a bigger Braves fan than I was). But, yeah, I got all my venting done last night. I hope folks don’t misunderstand…not trying to be sanctimonious. But today was really good.
…for the record, I like BMac, and as much as he struggled this season, we can’t just ignore what he’s done over the years for the Braves. I’m not saying I know his Braves days are over, but if they are, he has my thanks.
..just spoke to my wife, and she went to the Ballpark in Arlington today. Met the hitting coach there. I told her to offer my condolences and that I know how he feels.

It was a bad call, shocking that an mlb ump would stick to his guns and act like nothing even questionable happened. Anyway, the braves baked the three layer(one for each error) and the ump just iced it. happy celebrations cards, you earned it, I guess. A win is a win, even if its donated.

Cya!

Well well.

God bless
