I have watched baseball for a long time and I just witnessed the worst call in an important game….ever

Also……I have watched baseball for a very long time and I just witness the ABSOLUTELY WORSE FANS in ALL of BASEBALL……and they live in Atlanta. Just unbelievable what they did….and a major embarrassment to the city of Atlanta and to the Braves organization. Shame on all of you that threw anything onto the field after that play…..just unbelievable. This entire game has just been an unbelieveable event.

The umpires are going to the Braves dugout and making a phone call. Wonder if the Commish is going to make an ad-hoc ruling. That would be bizzare, but the fair thing to do is put Simmons back at first base with one out.

How wrong is the whole 1 game playoff debacle looking now? Controversial calls by the unpires are bad enough in a multi game series but having them screw up in a 1 game series allows the umpires to decide who gets to advance. What a crock of dung!!!!

One of the worst postseason umpire’s decisions I can recall. Just horrendous.

Just FYI: McCann has a .339 career average and nine grand slams in 109 at-bats with the bases loaded. Now, of course, they aren’t.

Ken Stallings

Actually, looking at the replay again, it was the left field umpire who made the call, but he also did not make the call until after the ball hit the grass. So, either way, the rule was not properly applied. Umpires have now gone into the Braves tunnel. Something is up — either a reversal of the call, or something to make an announcement to the crowd to stop endangering players and umpires.

Signalling for the infield fly as it hits the ground is not a judgement call. It is a violation of the rule by the umpire.

MLB will review the umpire’s decision.

If they say that Fredi was right, the game will be restarted from the protested play with Simmons at 1st with 1 out. (However, if the Braves win, I think Fredi has the right to call off the protest.)

If they uphold the umpire’s call, then everything remains as it is.
