ashlee cry me a river! You Troll!
To everyone that is griping about the fans that threw stuff on the field
You are all a-holes…this looked like a crap call because it WAS a crap call – the fans knew it…it’s in the Rule Book, so why was it ignored??? THE REFS ARE NOT THE GAME – THE PLAYERS ARE THE GAME!! these damed baseball referees/umpires are the worst, most self-centered, egoists in professional sports!!!! If those guys got out of the stadium w/out a black eye they should consider themselves fortunate – if this had happened in Baltimore, Philly. Pittsburgh, NY, Detroit, LA or Sacremento, those guys would never had made it out of the stadium…i’ll bet they are still at the Ted right now!
Why do the media groups keep saying it was a controversial call? It wasn’t controversial. Call it what it was and that is a bad call. The ump that made that call should be dismissed from post season games.
Anyhow, I’m with ya Fact Check. Seasons over. Nothing to see there. Football time!
NO MORE FREDI
J J – losers again.
We have been losers since 1995. Just getting to the playoffs means nothing.
MLB Off! No baseball on TV for the rest of the year.
go falcons go dogs oh well forget ga tech they need a coach to
October 5th, 20129:53 pm
Kozma should be a Brave. He’d fit right in!
Maybe you ARE a B. Just a thought. It might explain what happened.
maybe next year
It doesn’t matter if they can drop the ball to turn a double play or if its 220 feet away. The rule is the rule. After the infielder was under the ball calling for it the umpire called infield fly. Will people look up the rule before claiming it was too far away or they couldn’t double him up. Not one of those is a rule. Braves blew the game in the 7th
CHOKE! The call was choked horribly by the field ump as well as the Braves defense or lack of defense sucked as well. Bourn is a huge choke artist as well, striking out with bases loaded to end the inning. Find us a lead off man that puts the bat on the ball. Who’s filling third next year? I can’t say I look forward to spring training, who the hell knows what to expect. A lot of alcohol wasted in the Braves celebration to get to a one game playoff just to choke. Speaking of a one game playoff, who’s wise idea was that? IDIOTIC to have a one game playoff in baseball after playing 162 games a season. Just disappointing all around and I’m not sure what to look forward to with this team next year. To the ump that made the horrid call, hang your sh*t up and don’t return next year, you’re horrible.
October 5th, 20129:54 pm
Gutless MLB strikes again! Oh well, I hope the next groups of fans facing the Cards will keep up the new tradition and throw their trash on the field. I think it’s very appropriate.
Besides the reaction to a awfull call …the fans throw their shaem to the field tonight…c’mon how many shokes the ones ( aka the fans), have to suffer?
AMEN GT50. I’m done,,,,,,,,,,,,
Bye Bye Braves…..
Bourn – leaving for $$
Mac – hope he is traded
Hansen – hope he is traded
Chipper – retired (finally)
Fredi – hope fat boy is fired
Hold on Francona… we are coming for ya! Make it happen Frank!
least of the east
1 game playoff is a joke. they say winning the division is the key, but the divisions are unbalanced. how is that fair ?.
unbalanced divisions, unbalanced schedules. they can’t extend the season too long and say can’t make division winners wait. why not ?
next year, Braves will end up 4th so this won’t happen again.
October 5th, 20129:55 pm
The umpire and other umpires are maintaining it was the proper call. Get over yourselves Atlanta. You guys are an embarrassment to sports. That steroid using Chipper didn’t deserve another ring anyways and neither did your dump of a city. Classless idiots.
With all you guys protesting by not watching MLB. Going to pass it around to all my friends on Facebook and email. No Baseball on TV.
since day one
GT50, I’m with you.
Went to Ponce and saw the Crackers.
Saw Aaron, Cloninger, Torre, etc.
I started the “umpire s_x” on Varga.
Tickets thru the mail in 82.
103 temperature at the 91 playoffs.
October 5th, 20129:56 pm
Those genius that want Fredi fire, did he made a bad throw to second base,
or to first base or to home plate, show a hitter in the Braves lined up that can compare to 3 or more hitters from the Cards. Oh I forget Ugg, Brian,
Chipper (last two years)our bench, the lost of our best pitcher and the disappear of Hanson,Jarret. May be Bobby Valentine will do a better job
MLB is a joke.
I’ve watched the Braves, Falcons and Dawgs for 143 cumulative season resulting in 2 titles. This means that in any particular season, there is a 1% chance of one of these teams winning it all.
Those are Lloyd Christmas odds.
GOOD JOB ATL FANS!!!!!!!!!!
Was at the game: As a lifelong Atlanta fan, IT WAS GREAT TO SEE ATL FANS SHOW SOME PASSION. You liitle girls complaining about it can stay home and watch Dancing With The Stars. That was a HORRENDOUS CALL. Who is to say how the game would have ended? We should have had bases loaded and one out. At some point, you have to make a stand. That call was a joke. Proud to call ATL home! GO BRAVES!
October 5th, 20129:57 pm
Sam holbrook is the sam UMP that threw zack grienke out after 4 pitches
Dan Uggla's Swing
BTW, I am screwing over MLB by watching the games on line for FREEEEEEEEE
Eff you Bud Selig. You, sir, are an atrocity to the heritage of baseball. Still, the Braves have no one to blame but themselves, had they executed offensively and defensively, they would have won. Love ya Chipper!, Uggla, hope you land on your feet, somewhere else…
Sid Bream's Leg
Terrible call but terrible play from our Braves. Things like that can be erased in a best of 5 series, but not a one and out. Thanks for the crappy wildcard setup, Bud “no brain” Selig. You are the worst thing to happen to baseball.
October 5th, 20129:58 pm
I’m an idiot and I apologize for my stupid comments. I live in my moms basement and have no life.
In reality, we are a great sports town. All our major teams are in the playoffs routinely. We haven’t won many big ones, but we consistently win.
Love to challenge you to a little cage match.., then we could talk about winning.
So glad to see Chipper go out on a sour note. This is the guy who cheated on his wife and had a baby with someone else. Can’t stand the guy. Go Cards!!
As hard as every other Braves loss. And one Joe Simpson is a Jerk, the other is a Hollywood drunk, interchangeable. Gonna meet me in the tunnel and fight? Braves fans were fed up and throwing trash not “dangerous projectiles”. Did you hear what Halliday said about it? “Plastic bottles aren’t going to hurt me. A plastic airplane bottle landed near my feet and that is not a dangerous situation.”
Same ole Braves SMH
Bobby would have gone absolutely bonkers and made that a bigger scene than it already was. Fredi should have drawn as much attention to it as possible and gone crazy. Weak.
October 5th, 20129:59 pm
I am so old BUT, I have to say–Thirty freaking years ago, PHIL NIEKRO was LEADING against the Cardinals in the 1st game of the 1982 NL playoffs and lacked ONE F—— out for an official game. The UMPS called for a delay and eventually a rainout and Niekro was wasted for the playoffs–done–series over. He was so good that year. I guess we need to stay away from the Cards..Guess who was managing for the Braves–the same guy that supported the stupid ass call made tonight–Joe Torre–say it ain;t so Joe–C-mon! –He had to back his guys!– Next year Braves fans–
The real gut-buster about this is….under the old rules, the stupid Cardinals were eliminated. They slipped in by a breath last year, backed in under a rule change this year aided by a terrible call.
I wish them all the disaster in the world in the next round. Go Nats.
Braves Fan for 55 yrs
Would love to see a whole Braves playoff series without chip caray, the worst play by play announcer in all of baseball.
Shocker! Major League Baseball denies Braves protest.Did anyone actually think they would even consider it. They didn’t count on this when they made plans to add a 1 game playoff. Now that it happened, what a nightmar. they couldn’t make the Cards play more innings tomorrow then play Sunday against the Nats. THAT wouldn’t be fair. I agree with Chipper, might as well just let everyone in the playoffs. Why play a 162 games for this.
This is the night when Atlanta fans said Im not taking anymore bullsh** .
Bud Selig, eat my diarrhea filled shorts
October 5th, 201210:00 pm
Guns don’t kill people. Plastic bottles kill people.
I agree with Chipper. Even though the call was wrong, the errors cost them the game. And the same lack of clutch hitting. Did they strand 12 runners?
Anybody that didn’t like the fans throwing crap on the field can go pound sand. I am pissed they stopped. They should not have let that game resume at all. These announcers that keep talking about it being inexcusable are arrogant idiots. Fredi should have gotten himself tossed, then he should have stayed in that umps face till he cried like a school girl. That ump should be fired.
Every time the reply of the blown infield fly rule is replayed Braves fan, just think: BOHICA, baby!!!
big deal, the fans threw garbage on the field ! what should they do, cheer ? the fans in cities like Phila and NY can’t even behave when their team is winning.
I’ve been to games in those 2 towns are fans are a lot worse.
anyone who doesn’t think so is deluding himself.
the umps can’t do their job and the fans are supposed to remain silent.
may not have mattered , but at least let the Cards get us out. we don’t need umpires helping them. we helped them enough ourselves.
BAD CALL - GREAT ATL FANS
James S – If you were there, maybe your skirt would have been wrinkled.
@maybe next year. Why do you never see this call made like this if it truly is the rule. The ability to turn it into an intentional drop and subsequent double play is the reason it is in the rulebook even if not explicitly stated. (Trust me, they drill this into you during umping training)
October 5th, 201210:01 pm
Wild Card should be best of 3.
I hope torre and Holbrook get cancer
lets put blame where blame belongs. CHIPPER, you lost this one. You can’t make a routine double play, 3 runs score. You come up with a chance to knock some runners in, you fail miserably.
different year same braves. i cant remember the last time i saw the braves win in the postseason i had to be in middle school or something. if uggla is still at second and gonzalez is still managing, the braves get no time or money from me anymore. it totally sucks to be a fan of this team. if uggla is still at second it shows that management and ownership dont care about this team or winning. if they dont care why should I?
Had a nagging feeling all day…
The Cardinals find ways to win games like this and the Braves find ways to lose ‘em.
October 5th, 201210:02 pm
Braves’ defense was bush league. So was Braves’ hitting.
But the umpiring was as shameful as the behavior of Braves’ fans. Not just the blown “infield fly” call. Many balls-and-strikes calls were incredibly bad.
I’ve never been prouder to be an Atlanta sports fan. Kudos to everyone at the game tonight.
The ump that called the incorrect late infield fly rule I understand goes home to a very happy wife who just cashed in for a hundred grand!!!
first base——Freeman, okay
second base- ABU (anyone but Uggla)
Short stop —–Simmons
Left field need
center field Contanza
right field Haywood
Pitching Minor, Medlen, Hudson and trade for #4 and #5
announcers Chip Carey, Brian Jordan
@Good Job …dude, tell it!! If this had happened in NY or Boston or Dallas, it would have been called ‘Fan involvement”,,,in ATL, thanks to the pantywaist, pc media, we’re a ‘bunch of rednecks’…typical yankee BS. Whatev…we know it for what it is….
Terrible call but as several have mentioned, the bases would have been loaded with one out. Given how pitiful the Braves were this season in getting the hit they needed in those situations, does anyone really believe that the Braves would have actually scored???? When you go thru an entire season of futility in getting key hits in these situations how can you expect to suddenly produce when the chips are down in a one game playoff??? And the play of the infield was on little league level (my apologies to little league for such an insult). Bottom line, Braves played pitiful defense, hitting as usual let them down in key situations and the end result is another bitter loss. Where is Brooks Conrad when you need him???
Torre has had it in for the braves since Ted fired him 30 years ago. What a jerk.
Braves fan serving overseas
Thanks for your service. I’m so sorry you had to watch that awful baseball game.
Sam Holbrook, Terry Tata (badly missed a stolen base call with Braves batting and tossed Bobby for his argument in a WS game against Toronto, Braves lost 1-0), and Eric Gregg with his 8-foot strike zone for Marlin’s Hernandez. Can’t remember the umpires name when Gant got pulled off first base in 1991, but he’s in this group too of umpires who under pressure performed poorly.
I am sorry Atlanta fans. It’s that time of the month and I’m a bit grumpy.
October 5th, 201210:03 pm
” i cant remember the last time i saw the braves win in the postseason”
Over ten years ago. Just after 9-11.
“REPLACEMENT UMPIRES” are now working for MLB.
Correct call, though “ordinary effort” is questionable. Exactly where did all those beer cans come from? Chipper could have stopped it – don’t think he wanted to. Bravos didn’t deserve to get lucky.
people around me threw 30 dollars worth of beer on the field . THAT CALL SUCKED !!!!
October 5th, 201210:04 pm
Rowdy Garrett: Guess we will never know.
I agree with Tim. Could MLB laugh and sweep the protest away any faster? The rules of baseball were definitely not applied by the ump, but the MLB heads need to keep the NLDS schedule, so no protests.
So were these replacement umpires? This “judgement” call was worse than the “judgement”call in th3 Packer game. MLB should be more embarrassed than the NFL as these are supposed professionals. While I do not condone throwing things on field I don’t think I or any other pashionate fan of any team can honestly say that we could see that and not be outraged. Infield fly? Are you kidding me?
Where ya at James?
Chipper, Uggla and Simmons lost us the game. Plain and simple. The pitching was good, the hitting was blah but those errors were awful.
Chipper Jones can now retire at Hooters.
October 5th, 201210:05 pm
Braves just made another error.
No Soup for you!
Losersville! That’s why we brought ugla here! He is the biggest loser bust of all time! See ya you clown! Don’t let the door hit ya in your arrss!
I am the moral voice of Atlanta. You people disgust me. Plastic has no place in the air or on grass.
Lots of hits, only one clutch hit. Too bad the defense let us down. Would not be here without Chipper.
Great season, I like the one and done. Lots to build on but many questions remain, Uggla, Bourne, McCann are the big ones. Two bad seasons in a row for McCann and Uggla, Bourne horrible second half with too many Ks for a leadoff hitter. Braves still need power hitters at 3rd and LF and a good lead off hitter.
I thought Fredi did decent, better the second half than the first.
MLB has no guts, that call should have been reversed. If MLB had any guts that umpire would not be in any further playoff games.
I cannot fault the Braves fans.
Braves fans reacted 100% appropriately to that call. They made the protest for Fredi. In New York, there would have been violence, so the Braves fans reaction was well within what was appropriate for the situation. Braves fans were well within their rights to trash the field after what is probably the worst call in MLB postseason history, and in a one game playoff. That ump should be taken out of playoff ball indefinitely. Obviously not suited for high pressure situations and doesn’t know or understand the basic rules of the game.
October 5th, 201210:06 pm
Molina your are a jerk based on what you said. ” We play to win and they play to lose”. Take your ass back to St. Louis and you are lucky to be playing a kids game in this country.
Protest the World Series
Email the league: email@example.com
until Liberty Media is gone, the situation is hopeless. MLB shouldn’t even allow a corp out of state own a team.
next year, we have no 3B, no CF and a washed up catcher. we have a mediocre GM and a worse manager and still the same owner.
the next WS appearance will be next century. no current living Braves fan will see another one.
What is all this boycot MLB stuff from Braves fans? I thought you have been boycotting for years.Terrible attendance and empty seats at playoff games are the norm for you guys.
12 in 12 Go Cards!
last memory of chipper is trotting to first on a grounder to 2nd. how appropriate.he was a great player but a lollygagger his whole career. the mlb network had holbrook on. he said that he never saw a replay until he went in the clubhouse. they showed him on the field watching the big screen replays. he’s a bad umpire and a liar. joe torre embarrassed himself, but that isn’t really new. the ss never was under the ball, he was drifting and not in line with where the ball landed. that said, we THREW this game away.
October 5th, 201210:07 pm
Never should a playoff game be decided like this. This was not a controversial call it was a huge mistake by an nadequate umpire who should be fired immediately.
A true disaster that call. No more MLB on television.
I hope your green card gets lost over the winter. What a jerk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Molina
So long Jones.
So long Bourn.
Too bad Uggla can’t follow them out the door.
I think MLB has missed out on what the infield fly rule is intended to do.
old braves fan
Fredi has to be fired. After last year’s September meltdown and the meltdown in this playoff game, there is no reason to bring him back.
braves girl in cali
Can’t believe Chipper’s last game ended like this…all the “controversy” overshadowed the end of the game and it’s too bad that fans couldn’t say one last proper goodbye to #10. Chipper hurried out of the dugout as soon as he could and that was sad to see.
Regarding the call – my heart is broken about this loss and it hurts A LOT. I’ve followed the Braves for a long time and it’s never easy to lose in the playoffs but this horrible call makes it even worse. I never want to hear the words “infield fly rule” ever again!!!
Bud Selig should resign effectively immediately. Wild Card Team introduced to Play-off system????? No Pennant, but we get to play anyway….No World Series in 1994. All Star Game end sin Tie. Just like there is “NO CRYING IN BASEBALL”; THERE ARE NO TIES IN BASEBALL! Two Wild Card Teams – 1 game “Play-in” April wins don’t mean squat in Baseball anymore. He’s an Owner; not a Commissioner….his daughter owns the team in Milwaukee…YEAH RIGHT. FIRE SELIG NOW! ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!
Torre proves he’s an assclown. He did that for one reason, money. Worst call in playoff history.
Agreewith Erik, wouldhave like for Freddi G to have blown up a little more. He didn’t seem to be too bothered. B. Cox would have been ejected after his second word!!
October 5th, 201210:08 pm
Bobby Cox was one of the best regular season managers of all time (especially with Maddox, Glavine and Smoltz). He was also one of if not THE worst manager in the playoffs. Freddie is following right along in his footsteps. Until we break that Cox attitude in the playoffs, the Braves will never go anywhere near a world series again.
Jones was out at first base.
Grow a pair Joe Simpson! You couldn’t hold Skip’s jock strap.
Big Crimson 75
Medlin pitched a good game.
The Defense blew this game.
Terry Francona would be an upgrade over Fredi.
The Braves can get better next year. Beachy comes back.
We will still have one the top 5 staffs in Baseball.
I am now embarrassed to say I was embarrassed about the fans of Atlanta. This was a turning point for Atlanta fans, they stood up and let their voices be heard.
the braves fans weren’t reacting badly. they were starting a recycle program to help fund some new players.
October 5th, 201210:09 pm
Joe Torre sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
braves got hosed; the fix was in ; were those the nfl replacements refs? . TV did not allow the protest. Selig is the worst commish ever.
“I ruled to disallow the protest based on the fact it’s a judgment call,” Torre said
which is funny, when replay comes into effect this call will be overturned every single time and “judgment call” won’t be apart of it. MLB 180s like this about as often as the strikezone 180s during a game
October 5th, 201210:10 pm
That call didnt cost us the since we cant hit with runners is scoring position. The god damm errors cost us the game. Trade McCann ,Hanson, Uggla and Maholm and this team will be back next year.Sign Greinke and BJ Upton and trade for Justin Upton and were ready for Phis and Nats. Oh and fire Fredi .
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
