One of the worst calls in MLB history.
October 5th, 20128:44 pm
Yes starting a young pitcher in a one game series instead of a veteran and playing that idiot Uggla in the biggest game of the year are terrible calls. Hopefully Not Ready Fredi will be packing his bags and moving back to Miami next week.

I am out of words. I am from Philly—came down to Atlanta to see Chip’s final series. Really thought we had a good chance tonight. Terrible call by the umps but also terrible defensive. Sad ending. Thanks #10 for everything!
Sam Holbrook’s parents must be brother and sister to one another. What a pitiful excuse for an official and a man…..#smalljohnsonevensmallerbrain

Classless team followed by classless fans. You are a disgrace Atlanta.
Infield fly rule. Go.
S.O.B.’s……aka…Same Old Braves….call was bad, but the Braves were getting their asses whooped anyway!!!
Matt the Brave
This is worse than Hrbek pulling Gant off of 1st. Both times it has killed a rally by the Braves and screwed us in the end.
I am from Philly—came down to see the final series in Atlanta for Chipper. Terrible call, terrible defense. Really disheartening.
i am right
chipper you suck, 10 year olds throw better than you!
Protest the World Series
October 5th, 20128:47 pm
Do not watch the playoffs of the World Series. If MLB can cheat us, we can cheat them.
Going to miss you Chipper. Now time for the off season MOVES and waiting for spring!
How would like to be these umps there going to get killed by the press, wrost call i ever seen. Hope they don’t get to umpire anymore this year.
The NFL replacement refs would have got that call right.
October 5th, 20128:48 pm
worst idea in sports is a one game playoff of a 162 game season
shut up headlines! your stupid!
Absolutely no excuse for throwing garbage on the field. I know never to let a child watch Atlanta play again…that is not the kind of sportsmanship I want them to learn.
never have I seen a call that bad in baseball!
MEMO TO BRAVES, TBS SPSO ETC., FIRE JOE SIMPSON!
I told you that your Hooters hero would not do a thing
October 5th, 20128:49 pm
Headlines is a fool. I would be censored for saying what he really is so I’ll have to settle for fool.
We Will Get Fooled Again
The call was horrible, but let’s keep it in its proper context. The players lost this game. Honestly, even if the call had gone our way, does anyone think anybody from this merry band of losers would have come up with a clutch hit?
The culture of choking continues. Everything was set up for us to exorcise some demons tonight. We had Medlen on the mound with a rocking crowd and a 2-0 lead. Only the Braves could blow it so spectacularly.
Changes have to be made. Not wholesale changes, no. This is a good team that had a good year. I don’t think you fire Fredi. I do think you fire Dan Uggla. I do think you tell Michael Bourn good riddance.
But other than that, I have no answers. We’ve changed managers. We’ve changed players. The choking never stops. The inability to win at Turner Field in October never stops. Maybe we just need to be like Cubs fans and accept that we are destined to a lifetime of failure in the postseason.
Champagne for St. Louis and the usual Piss for Atlanta …
Braves fan serving overseas
Well, getting up early to watch the boys lose was not fun. 12 am local here in Middle East. But watching them lose because a multitude of bad things (umpires, errors, men left on base) was harder. I wish Chipper the best and he (in my books) will go down as the best Braves player in history. I am looking forward to this offseason to see what we do. Regardless the outcome Go Braves and thanks for memorable last season Chipper!
October 5th, 20128:50 pm
This just in: The NFL replacement refs from the Green Bay / Seattle Monday Night game showed up to umpire the NL Wild Card game!!!
SONINO JOHN PAUL SCARDELLETTI - A CHRISTIAN
“ATLANTA IS BURNING!”
ATLANTA IS BURNING!
BRAVES FANS YELL “FOUL!”
FEEL THEY GOT CHEATED,
MAN, DID THEY HOWL!
INFIELD FLY RULE,
UMPS DID CALL.
FOLKS LITTERED DIAMOND,
CAUSED GAME TO STALL.
I THOUGHT A RIOT,
WOULD BREAK OUT.
THANKFULLY IT DIDN’T,
BUT THERE WAS DOUBT.
NOW THOSE CARDINALS,
NATIONALS THEY’LL PLAY.
5 GAME SERIES,
SONINO JOHN PAUL SCARDELLETTI – A CHRISTIAN
should have been bases loaded 1 out and who knows what could have happened?
You know, as disappointing as this loss was….it prevented just prolonging the torture. This team as presently constituted clearly didn’t have the heart to win the WS….so might as lose now rather than just stringing out the fans longer for even bigger disappointment.
Just hope the bad Karma doesn’t spread to the Dawgs and Falcons this weekend!!!
Ghost of Gil Garrido

Unbelievable. Horrible call, and I hate that the season ends like this for the Braves and a career ends like this for Chipper. All deserve better. What the hell, baseball gods?
We will miss u chipper! Who cares about the playoffs! It’s all about u chipper!
The most over-hyped non-clutch hitter in history. Chipper Jones
Joe Simpson apologizes almost as much as Obama. I’d put them on the same level which is somewhere between morons and idiots.
Worst call in baseball! Had the NFL loaned the replacement refs to the National league. Many of the umpires calls are questionable especially balls & strikes but this missed call was open to all eyes.Anybody who thinks this call was right is going to vote for obama.
Not Ready Fredi blamed it on the hitting coach last year and thought that we needed two hitting coaches. Who will be the scapegoat this year?
we didnt have the pitching to win a world series. we have medlen and hudson and thats it. and we havent been hitting that well.
October 5th, 20128:52 pm
If that embarrases you so much Joe , do us all a favor and call another team’s games.
People and pundits in other cities are always stating that Braves’ fans do not care. I think the influx of garbage on the field, even though wrong, demonstrates clearly that Braves’ fans care very much.
Questionable call? It was blatantly wrong!! Don’t cover for the umpires.
Well, it is a tough loss for sure. But I am still proud of my Braves!
This loss isn’t the umpires’ fault. This team, as it has done time and again, choked when it counted most. The Cards wanted it more and were the better team, despite the Braves’ having owned them in the season. What a lame, weak, and pathetic bunch of losers. I hope the ‘end of an era’ comments we keep hearing mean the end of failed expectations. There is no reason on Earth why this team should have gotten beat tonight, except for the fact that it’s a well-established normal thing for them to choke when it means the most. Goodbye, Chipper. I hope you enjoy that losing taste for the rest of your days.
I loved Freddi Freemans play……he should be the vocal leader now in the clubhouse.
October 5th, 20128:53 pm
ROY, THEY WILL GIVE THEM MEDALS! I HOPE THEY GOT GOOD SECURITY. THEYS A LOT O’ VERY DRUNK, PISSED OFF REDNECKS IN THE VICINITY!
JOE SIMPSON’S TIME IN ATLANTA IS DONE, I HOPE HE CATCHES A NETWORK JOB. IF HE’S ON NEXT YEAR, I SHALL TUNE IN BY RADIO. PLEASE JOE, GO BACK TO THE LEFT COAST!
Medlen did fine, if it weren’t for Chipper and Simmons’ errors, the Cards would have only had 3 runs.
the Curse of the Braves continues…..
We are the Buffalo Bills of MLB
Chipper is not reevant now and has not been for years. Good ridence, dude …. Probably be selling hot dogs at the Varsity next year. Better use of talent ….
Chipper is not relevant now and has not been for years. Good ridence, dude …. Probably be selling hot dogs at the Varsity next year. Better use of talent ….
LF ump should not be making that call. since he did 1) SS was not underneath ball 2)made call way too late. Don’t tell me the SS peeled off because he heard ump call infield fly. SS never looked at ump when ball hit grass. Poor poor poor call. Almost as bad as Eric Gregg (RIP)
GG STL. You played D better than my Bravos.
Please do not take the vital over the IFR call as being against the Cards. This issue is deeper and goes back to Hrbek pulling Gant, Gregg’s one-sided strike zone, and a number os slights/errors against the Braves.
I root for the Nats and I agree that was one of the worst calls I’ve ever seen. The Braves deserved a better ending because they played tough all year. Sorry to see Chipper’s season end like that — one of the classiest players ever. See you guys next year; we’ll bop the Cards for you.
Sam Holbrook better run out of town F A S T
Oh shut up and stop complaining and whining. You Braves fans get exactly what you deserve. If the Braves were any good anyway they would have won the division outright. I hope all the redneck Braves fans are disappointed tonight. I read that Atlanta is one of the dirtiest cities, it certainly lived up to that moniker tonight. HA HA HA HA HA
October 5th, 20128:54 pm
This is why I gave up watching baseball after the last strike. Terrible play by all.
Only an absolute idiott would say that was classless. The team and the fans should have just walked out of the stadium. a bad call is a bad call but that was plain horrible. and not one other umpire over ruled it. which is amazing. somebody made a lot of money on that one.
BierBreth, sorry but I have to look down on your taste.
Embarrassed? No way. I was proud of ATL fans throwing the debris. That call was so atrocious, the fans did their part to make sure it go the attention it deserves.
This is just an other disappointment. I use to think it was Bobby Cox . Now I know the Braves are just losers. Two world series championships in 100 years when they should have had 15. I am just done with them. Chipper choked, Bourn choked, when it mattered most just like every other year. Good Riddance. I am going to read books , screw baseball.
October 5th, 20128:55 pm
Yes. Chipper got a hit in his last at bat. I’m sure that made his night! It made mine! Way to go out on top chipper.
GT and Braves Fan
I just want to see if the media destroys the umpires and has them replaced. just like the replacement refs….Bet they don’t because the media is gutless. We should replace the current structure of our media, because of their bias. They should stand for truth and not favoritism of political parties, unions. They play an important part for our society…if they are consistent this game will be played from start from point of mistake and have the Braves load the bases, apologize to braves and tell them all close calls will go their way for rest of game (no bias here
@i am right~If you’re going to call someone stupid at least use the word “your” in the proper context. “Your” is not the same as “you’re”. “You’re” welcome.
Sam Holbrook’s Wikipedia page has been locked since he made the bad call. Gee, I wonder why? Among his notable contributions in the field of aggressively bad umpiring, he is the fellow who ejected Greinke for spiking the ball in frustration, and action which was in no way directed towards Holbrook or the umpiring crew. He has a heck of a fine career ahead of him as an Eric Gregg impersonator — he’s already got the girth. Sure, the Braves were blowing the game pretty much every inning, so did Holbrook feel like the Cardinals needed any help? Rich Garcia, Don Denkinger, Jim Joyce, and the ghost of Eric Gregg are all thanking Sam Holbrook for positioning himself to be known hereafter as the worst umpire in baseball history. A thoroughly disgusting display of arrogant incompetence.

Ted…your a loser
Headlines, does your babysitter know you’re up?
I’m with Ebeneezer: FIRE Joe Simpson!
A few observations:
1) The infield-fly call was questionable to say the least. The umpire raised his arm at the last minute, and neither Cardinal player could have seen it.
2) That said, this call did not cost the Braves the ball game. Terrible fielding by the Braves, along with timely hitting by St. Louis, did that.
3) The behavior of the Atlanta fans was disgraceful. Nothing can warrant the kind of boorish, low-rent acts that threatened the health of the players and delayed the game almost 20 minutes.
4) Farewell, Chipper Jones. It’s really too bad your last game will be remembered for such questionable umpiring and shameful fan behavior.
braves management should send joe simpson a message. his ole high and might talk is one reason atlanta is known for a town that wants “character” guys on their sports teams, but funny thing is, they cant win with clean cut guys………
I am a Mets fan, had the game on, yes, slopy play by the Braves, but THAT call
was awful…..I wonder who had that ump in his pocket….I am smelling a black sox sort of thing going on here….
Ted, you made some excellent points, but i can’t help but feel you are a very bad troll. Maybe you should go back to college.
Horribly disappointing. Ben Ingram on the radio sounded like he wanted to punch someone in the face.
October 5th, 20128:57 pm
Hey Headlnes – how many times are you going to push that button. Talk about Classless. Impatient Jerk.
g h parker
Been attending and watching the Braves since they moved here in ‘66. Not sure I have EVER witnessed anything as bizarre as this “game”. Bad fielding really lost this game, nothing else.
TED, PLEASE GO SOMEWHERE AND TRY TO IMPREGNATE YOURSELF!
Curse of Leyritz
Hey Braves .. tough!
“And left to wonder what might have been if not for that umpire’s call in the eighth”
field that ball correctly like you’ve done all year, and hit … well you haven’t hit good in a while so that’s pointless …. but field the ball correctly and you could have been riding Meds into the Division series instead of stewing over a call that shouldn’t have affected the game if you had just done your job right.
BYE BYE BRAVES! HA HA HA HA HA That has a nice ring to it.
I am a 15 year kid transplant from suburban Chicago that goes to Wheeler HS, cannot get a date, and have unresolved “growth” issues
I’ve lived here a long time…
It’s like a sports nightmare.
Automatic Out Uggla
There is no way possible Uggla can stay an Atlanta Brave. Terrible signing and even worse excuse of a player. It has been two seasons now of not earning his keep. Heck, he even struggles just throwing the ball to first base.
Al Gore says it’s the altitude that causes the Braves to choke, year after year.
Big Papa Dawg
October 5th, 20128:58 pm
Three errors and terrible clutch hitting sank this season the call was awful but did not cost the game. Would have been better if Larry had oled that ball like he usually did. that’s ole
I have never been more proud of my Braves fans!!!! don’t take that crap laying down, those highlights will foreever be remembered fo the worst call in playoff history. We hate loosing and will not toleate getting rooked, cheated or anything else ….show me a good looser and ill show you a looser
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
