maybe sentamentality says braves should keep bmac for another 10 years like they did another over paid underperforing injury prone err ummm super star but fridi made the right move for today
Stop it with the “injury” excuses for McCann. Anyone want to tell us what a sore right shoulder has to do with striking out time after time on breaking balls in the dirt? — old scout
I know you’re old (or so it says), but “sore shoulder” is a bit misleading. He has a frayed labrum and cyst in his shoulder, likely needs surgery.
Win or lose, I support Fredi G with this decision. Rossy is a tremendous catcher, calls a great game, amazing arm and defense, and has a flair for the dramatic. I LOVE McCann, but this is the right call for this do or die game.
There will be time enough for second-guessing. I’m excited about today – wish I could be in Atl. Will be rooting for my Braves like crazy this evening. Go Braves!!
Everyonr sayng Bobby would never do that aparently forgets thatthe Charlie O’Brien started 2 games in 95 over Javy because Mad Dog wanted a defensive catcher. Medlin would never bring it up unasked, but any pitcher would rather have Ross than Mac for the sake of the battery n and of itself. RISE UP!! Oh wat, I mean GO BRAVES!!!
As painfull as it is i gotta agree with this move. You have to assume if the braves win this game its gonna be a low scoreing game. Our offense has not been exactly on fire lately. So you have to try to what you can to make this the type of game you can win. I also love the fact that mac is available off the bench. Good ballsy move by Gonzo!
I don’t believe it’s been two down years for BMac. 2010: 269 av and .375 OBP; 2011: 270 av and 350 OBP.
Playing catcher is the toughest position in BB. Catchers will get injured/have injuries, like most players at one time or another. BMac has played hurt and not complained; and fairly serviceable at that. To write him off is premature and shortsighted.
Like a couple others have said, it’d be great if he provided the game winner if he comes up to pinch hit…and he is very capable of doing that.
And, Fredi has already said that BMac would be the starter if we continue into the post season.
Write off one of the best, if not the best, catchers in BB over career? Not me.

Feel bad for McCann, but gutsy move and the right one from FG. No disrespect, but Bobby Cox would not have had the guts to make that move.
