St. Louis caught the Braves last season, and it will happen again — just in a different way. Too bad.
October 3rd, 20128:55 pm
October 3rd, 20129:04 pm
I WILL BE THERE READY TO CHOP!!
October 3rd, 20129:05 pm
Hopefully, the better team (Braves) will win.
Max Sizemore is sad because he has a little “thing” and wishes it had more size.
October 3rd, 20129:06 pm
Go away azz! Do u have a crystal ball? The streak will continue! Meds gets #24! GO BRAVOS!!!!
Starting the game in the middle of rush hour traffic ensures that thousands of ticket holders will be sitting in traffic long after the game begins. Pretty shabby treatment TBS.
October 3rd, 20129:08 pm
I hope they have mercy rule. Braves should forfeit and save everyones money.
October 3rd, 20129:13 pm
October 3rd, 20129:15 pm
Gene, people who bought tickets knew that the time of the game had not been announced and that they would not findout until the last minute. I am pretty sure many will take the day off or take a half day and will get there early. The lots are opening 5 hours early and gates 3 hours. It will be fine.
Not this year. Not getting caught again by those SOBs. No negativity here on the blog from now until the end of the year. Tired of it. Concerns are one thing, but just flat out saying the Braves will lose sends out bad vibes and is just unpleasant to read.
We can do this, we can win. It’s going to be hard, the Cards have the NL’s best offense, we might just have all of baseball’s best pitcher (at least at the moment). Today (even though the game was meaningless) was a good step in the right direction. Offense battled and scraped together some runs against a solid pitcher in Burnett. Heyward and Mac have multi hit games. Chipper’s work in the cage paid off with a nice hit to right field, Uggs got an RBI, Bourn was stealing bases and the back end of our bullpen (minus Kimbrel getting a little wild) looked good.
We have a good team here, regardless of what ANYONE thinks will happen on Friday. At times the offense struggles, but if the offense can scrape together some runs the way they did today, we can win. And they’re capable of blowing the door off the hinges, this team has scored a lot of runs this year. They haven’t been doing it lately, and Lohse is a very good pitcher, but you have to believe.
The Braves have something magical about them this year. I for one, regardless of what the negative nancies say, think they can win this game and make a run.
October 3rd, 20129:16 pm
Texas vs Baltimore in the prime time, I guess?
Is that a better draw than Braves vs against the defending champs?
October 3rd, 20129:20 pm
J J please tell me since you obviously know, what’s it like to have no friends, woman, or life? Must suck.
How Stupid Can MLB Be?
October 3rd, 20129:24 pm
Really? 5:00 start time for a one game playoff? Another 20 years and baseball will go the way of hockey.
October 3rd, 20129:25 pm
Max Sizemore is a little man with a little brain who is probably a frustrated Phillies fan. Medlen rocks on friday and the Braves advance to face the Nats on Sunday.
October 3rd, 20129:26 pm
JJ is Max Sizemore’s little friend.
No. 1 Braves Fan
October 3rd, 20129:29 pm
JJ is sad. Take your meds (if you have any) and go to bed pitiful little fellow.
October 3rd, 20129:31 pm
The night game would have been almost 8:45 which would have ended around midnight. I’d pick the 5:00 game over that one. At least the Game 1 game time on Sunday won’t matter when it comes to traffic. Pretty sad how many seats are still available for that game.
@Steve. OH, I have a lot of fun here at the Playboy Mansion. It is a whole lot more than Hooters. Just ask your loser hOOTERS HERO.
October 3rd, 20129:33 pm
The reason the Braves are playing the early game is because MLB had to set the times today and both the Yankees and Orioles were playing Wed Night with the possiblity that they could be tied and need a 1 game playoff on Thursday so by giving the AL the late game they had more time to travel if needed. Doesn’t look like a game will be needed on thursday now but that was not known at the time MLB had to set the game times.
October 3rd, 20129:34 pm
Steve, if the Braves win Friday in some sort of classy fashion, those tickets will be GONE IN 60 SECONDS!!!
October 3rd, 20129:36 pm
Hope you are right Mia, I have my tickets and am ready to go!
October 3rd, 20129:37 pm
A rental until in Sandy Springs is not the Playboy Mansion. No matter how hard you fantasize about it, it’s not gonna happen.
October 3rd, 20129:38 pm
The force is strong with you, young Steve!
October 3rd, 20129:41 pm
Payback time! No World Series for the Redbirds this year. Go Braves!
October 3rd, 20129:45 pm
@Lets Go Well let’s see here. I have a woman on each shoulder and one in my lap. Got champagne in my hand and a $5000 dollar betting ticket in my hand saying BRAVES LOSE. Can your Hooters hero say that. Afraid not. Poor Brave fans. I got no pity for you.
Going to be tough to beat the defending champs but here is the slight edge:
Best MLB bullpen
Best starter (barely)
Best defense in the NL
Chipper’s last postseason
October 3rd, 20129:46 pm
braves win 2-1.
October 3rd, 20129:55 pm
Medlen + Kimbrel = Unbeatable
October 3rd, 20129:56 pm
I plan on making a surprise appearance after Kris gets tired.
People quit your negative vibes .We are in lets do it.
October 3rd, 201210:01 pm
Time to shoot some birds!
October 3rd, 201210:03 pm
@JJ, my chauffeur says you are full of b.s. Braves will win
October 3rd, 201210:08 pm
JJ-yep, you’re at the Mansion…with nothing better to do but post on this blog. Let me guess, in the Grotto? Anyone who lies about being in the Mansion is clearly too old to be living with his mom.
October 3rd, 201210:10 pm
“@Lets Go Well let’s see here. I have a woman on each shoulder and one in my lap. Got champagne in my hand and a $5000 dollar betting ticket in my hand saying BRAVES LOSE. Can your Hooters hero say that. Afraid not. Poor Brave fans. I got no pity for you.”
Cool story bro! GO BRAVES!
October 3rd, 201210:12 pm
Hey JJ….don’t lie…everyone knows its me in drag sitting next to you! Love you big boy!
October 3rd, 201210:17 pm
DOB, can you clarify the parking situation? I know that parking passes are sold out, but does that mean the lots aren’t accepting people driving up to the lot before the game?
October 3rd, 201210:20 pm
Go Nationals! Dont like the braves…
October 3rd, 201210:21 pm
Well yeah get off here then.
October 3rd, 201210:32 pm
Braves’ Haters: GO AWAY! This is a BRAVES blog.
OK. Now. Braves Fans: Who actually remembers the World Champion Season — 1995? Who remembers their strength? That’s right. Starting Pitching. Who remembers their weakness? Yep. That’s it. The hitting was anemic. And yet. What did they do? You got it. The won the WORLD SERIES! ‘Nuff said!
October 3rd, 201210:33 pm
CORRECTION on the next to last line: THEY won the World Series.
Sorry. Kinda late for me. LOL
October 3rd, 201210:47 pm
When I chop…I chop hard. Go Braves!
October 3rd, 201210:57 pm
Go Nationals! Dont like the braves… — yeah
Well, then it certainly makes sense that you troll a Braves blog in the Atlanta newspaper. yeah, indeed.
October 3rd, 201211:07 pm
Thanks DOB for all the great coverage! This is why we chop!
October 3rd, 201211:09 pm
October 3rd, 201211:15 pm
DOB, you said auto-pilot is no way to be playing heading into the playoffs.
Do you think Fredi Gonzalez would have been advised to not bench many of his starters the last two games?
October 3rd, 201211:16 pm
Get some, Dave! Get rid of these clowns. GO BRAVES!
October 3rd, 201211:18 pm
It sucks that the wild card game will be won by whoever can see pitches thru shadows the best.
October 4th, 201212:05 am
Bummer to win 94 games and have to play St. Louis to get into the real playoffs, but if MLB is going to have a wild card it makes sense to have two instead of one. The game in Oakland today was huge because of the new wild card format.
I really think we will cruise past the Cardinals. They have a horrible road record this year, and we are the better team.
October 4th, 201212:12 am
Does anyone remember Jason Heyward having problems with a couple of ball in the sun in RF during the year? I know there were some games that started at 4PM for FOX but was there not one or two that started at 5PM or 6PM for some reason? I do recall JH missing at least one out there due to the sun during one of those games. This could be a problem on Friday. Of course it will be a problem for BOTH RFs. Seriously, for various reasons there could not be a worse starting time for this game! Seems the AL always gets priority, and the NL(Braves) get screwed!
October 4th, 201212:19 am
Do you think Fredi Gonzalez would have been advised to not bench many of his starters the last two games? — Mitchell
The last two games? Did you not see today’s lineup?
October 4th, 201212:33 am
Win and progress or lose and go home it has been a lot better year!
October 4th, 20122:18 am
St Louis Cardinals will win and the Atlanta Braves will not. Given the mostly miserable post season history of the Braves this game to me seems fairly easy to predict. lol
October 4th, 20123:06 am
Dear Assorted Trolls:
Have fun prognosticating and talking smack today and tomorrow, and then we will wave to you from the NLDS on Friday night.
October 4th, 20125:13 am
I like our chances with Medlen on the mound. Go Braves.
October 4th, 20126:05 am
Tough call. I am a diehard Cardinals fan and it would be great to see another run like last season. But can’t help root for something big to happen in Chipper’s last season.
October 4th, 20126:16 am
lets win one for the Chipper
October 4th, 20126:51 am
Worst start time ever. Go Bravos
October 4th, 20127:01 am
Will chipper play on Friday or will this be one of his hundreds of “days off”?
Scrambled eggs n Bacon
October 4th, 20127:11 am
Some how Nats fans former phillies trolls here lets say…….atlanta will beat st.louis and Baltimore will beat Texas also friday so be washington here sunday Baltimore vs Ny Yankees sunday and hopefully …atlanta fans will fill place to the bream like folgers coffee…..Oakland vs Detroit…despite havin the triple crown for detroit he turns into a jester as Oakland wins series 3-1…and Baltimore upset Yankees 3-2…..in the Natl league if i right(i hope is) atlanta beats nats 3-2 go five games now…and Reds shock the Giants 3-0 in series be ..atlanta vs cincinnati vs atlanta..are washington depends if atlanta really wants it folks and Oakland baltimore in ALCS…this will make TBS and FOX frown alot….who meets in world series is beyond control so step back sit and watch….all the fans write in complain cuss out managers play savor and stuff………cause next season goin be back to 2-2-1 format for 2013!
October 4th, 20127:21 am
Even in the great 90s, the Braves were more successful in the regular season than in the post season. Hopefully, this will not the be the case this time. Wild Cards have won the WS before; come on team, let’s make that happen AGAIN!!!
October 4th, 20127:30 am
What I do know is i”ll be at The TED, Cheering on Chipper and the Bravos! GO TEAM!!!
October 4th, 20127:33 am
The Braves have some swagger when Medlen is on the mound. Let’s go Braves!!
October 4th, 20127:36 am
I predict a close, low scoring game. I predict Simmons is our offensive hero, the Braves win 3-1.
Then, bring on the Nats.
October 4th, 20127:54 am
I hope Oops Conrad isn’t in the lineup : (
October 4th, 20127:58 am
Any way to block that idiot JJ? If you have nothing to contribute, stay in bed, JJ, and double up on those meds! You are obviously not a Braves fan. Shouldn’t you be making your inane comments on your second division team’s blog? I think the AL play in game is in Texas. Thus, the later starting time for that game. Sucks for Braves fans but what else can they do. MLB wants as much prime time exposure as possible. Hope the Braves bring their big boy bats for this game. Lohse is tough. , he is right handed and the Braves have already beaten this year. But, a typical Medlen start will get the job done.
October 4th, 20128:03 am
“The Braves have something magical about them this year. I for one, regardless of what the negative nancies say, think they can win this game and make a run. ”
The W/L shows a strong season, but was one of the sloppiest and most inconsistant performances throughout the season that I’ve ever followed. Key players had super slumps and looked horrible at times. The Braves and others benefited by a larger than normal slate of underperforming teams. The Cards played poorly much of the season. Medlen and Kimbral….without their shut down performances this team would be watching games on TV. It was a weird year watching a bunch of teams looking bad half the time. Look at Oakland…….small payroll and the team knocks out all the big spenders. Think about this before you rant about signing Bourne and McCann and any other 30+ year old free agents. I take great satisfaction in seeing the Angels sitting at home right now after its spending spree to buy a championship. Pujols is probably in hiding right now. Go Braves & Cards!
October 4th, 20128:13 am
Ugh, Travis Tritt again? Isn’t there anyone else in Atlanta that can sing at Braves playoff games other than Travis Tritt?
October 4th, 20128:24 am
My biggest fear is two fold, one the Braves pick Friday night to leave the bat’s in the rack, and two Medlin picks Friday to be human. Go Braves
October 4th, 20128:31 am
Forget the Braves game… Since so many of you here are blessed with clairvoyance (the ability to accuratly see into the future) tell me the lottery winning numbers for Friday night.
October 4th, 20128:41 am
Here’s the dance the Braves will be doing after they beat up on the STL http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&feature=endscreen&v=_Hay7HZL6gQ
October 4th, 20128:45 am
As a baseball fan, I love what the additional Wildcard team did for interest in baseball down the stretch. But I don’t like the “one game” format because it doesn’t represent what the Braves accomplished this year. After 162 games, we finished with the exact same record as the winner of the West (Giants 94-68). Yet we don’t at least have a best 2 of 3? In 2013 I wish they would finish on a Wednesday….use the following Friday – Sunday weekend for a best of 3 Wildcard Playoff weekend, and start the Division Championship Series the following Monday. It still awards the Division winners, but isn’t too long from the point of their last day of the season.
October 4th, 20128:47 am
JJ why don’t you get your friend from 680 sports talk radio John K and move back to dirty Philly.
October 4th, 20129:00 am
Good morning to you too smooth. Don’t want to go to Philly. No fun. I will just stay here in the Playboy Mansion and let you losers deal with your Hooters hero.Braves lose again. You want me to put you in for a couple of thousand.

October 4th, 20129:32 am
Since the AL WC game is at Texas, the time zone difference probably makes having that as the late better logistically. If that game had been Oakland at Baltimore, Braves/Cards would have been prime time.
October 4th, 20129:36 am
No sense delaying the inevitable.
I like our chances on Friday mostly because they are starting a right-hander against us who we tattooed earlier this year.
October 4th, 20129:41 am
Reckon they have any Chipper bobble-head dolls left to give away? Might want to raid the prize closet to check. Seems that the Ol’ Battle Axe and team play real well when they do.
October 4th, 20129:46 am
I am ok with the game time for this reason – we are starting playoffs so late the kids dont get to see them, and that is going to kill us in the long run as a sport; a game played between 5 and 8 is perfect for 10 year olds……..as for my old butt, I dont get off work until 6:00……sigh……
October 4th, 20129:58 am

Thanks for a great year of Braves coverage.
When does batting practice typically start?
October 4th, 201210:06 am
medlin is due for a bad game and cards are the one team he was banged arround by. plus he is a kid and has known he would be starting this game for at least a week, talk about PRESSURE! playing the world champions and his only memory of them is them hitting him hard? Wow. Plus lohse has been money and Cards are on a roll.
Having said all this it means nada. Uggla could rise up and remind everyone of why he was an allstar or not. In one game cubbies could smackdown either one, it’s one freaking game! just too stupid for words except for, it sure makes winning division now seem HUGE. Heck pete kozma a forgotten role player has been huge for cards last month with furcal out with injury.
October 4th, 201210:13 am
Actually, a 1 game playin suits the Braves better. They have the hottest pitcher going and a rested bullpn behind him. The Cardinals are as good or better at all of the other ppositions on the field and have a decent piching staff of their own. If the Wild Card series was best 2 out of 3, the Braves would still have to win that one last game and go into the next series with their pitching already stressed. The Braves have a better shot at beating the Cardinals in a 1 game playoff than they do of winning 2 out of 3 and have a better chance of matching up against the next opponent.
October 4th, 201210:20 am
That’s what a DVR is for. Set the game to record and you don’t miss a pitch (plus you can fast forward through the commercials). I share your concern about baseball and TV scheduling games so late that the kids don’t get to see them. I am part of the generation that brought transistor radios to school to listen (either surreptitiously or with the teacher’s consent)to the World Seriies games.
October 4th, 201210:25 am
Their only hope is Medlin pitching 7 or 8 scoreless innings. Then scratching out 1 or 2 runs and letting Kimbrel close the door.
October 4th, 201210:49 am
That’s okay, Cards only hope is if Medlen is unable to put a jersey on.
I’ll take the Braves Medlen over their entire roster.
October 4th, 201210:50 am
Well then the Braves would have to turn around and face the Nats in the NLDS.
Brave New World
October 4th, 201210:52 am
JJ: Besides being a troll, you’re obviously delirious from not having eaten in a while. Friday evening, we Braves fans will be sending you some roasted red bird to stuff down your throat.
October 4th, 201210:54 am
One game playoff not fair? No, what’s not fair is the Cardinals only getting 8 innnings to score a run, cause if Kimbrel comes in for the ninth, it’s OVER! GO BRAVES!
October 4th, 201211:01 am
Max Sizemore October 3rd, 2012 8:54 pm St. Louis caught the Braves last season
Maxi Pad: The only thing the Cardinals will be catching this year is their plane back to St. Louis.
October 4th, 201211:10 am
Braves will win..you got to believe. Biggest game of Year!
Should say this is the YEAR!
October 4th, 201211:16 am
This has been an awesome season and I love it for the mear fact that the big time payroll teams except the yankees arent in the playoffs…. GO BRAVES and BEAT THEM RED BIRDS
October 4th, 201211:20 am
I agree that the one-game playoff suits the Braves. If they follow their recent playoff history in elimination games, at least the pain will be short and quick. If they beat the Cardinals, maybe they can gain some confidence to go far.
October 4th, 201211:44 am
I like the Braves chances for this historic one game wildcard playoff. The Braves might have choked in seasons past, but this is a new team and one that has shown a flare for the dramatic. Some people talk about the Braves getting blown out by the Cards, but it does not seem likely given Medlen’s propensity for giving up next to nothing and allowing his team to win 23 straight games that he has started. Like most Braves Country, I believe this team can win. Go Braves!
October 4th, 201212:57 pm
When I win my double or nothing bet,all of you will be eating crow instead of redbird. Bye Braves. Nice try. As long as you got the Hooters hero bossing the show you are beat.
