Few tickets left for Braves Wild Card game Friday

It’s uncertain which team the Braves will face — St. Louis or Los Angeles — or what time the game will start, but tickets are going fast for the National League Wild Card game Friday at Turner Field.

Some tickets remained as of Tuesday noon, but most were standing-room only. Braves parking lots are sold out and fans are advised to take MARTA to the game.

The Braves will play either the Cardinals or the  Dodgers on Friday, with the winner advancing to a best-of-five Division Series that would start Sunday. If the Braves advance to the Division Series, Games 1 and 2 would be at Turner Field Sunday and Monday.

The Cardinals can clinch a wild-card spot Tuesday with either a win against Cincinnati or a Dodgers loss against San Francisco.

For available seat locations or to purchase tickets for Wild Card game or tickets and parking for the Division Series, please go to braves.com/postseason.

The starting time for Friday’s game isn’t expected to be announced until the second wild-card spot in both the American and National Leagues is determined. Both leagues will play a Wild Card game on Friday, and  there was still a chance that at least one tiebreaker would have to be played Thursday to determine a participant.

Major League Baseball was waiting to set starting times because of logistical reasons, in case a West Coast team is involved. It’s also believed that TBS would prefer to have the New York Yankees as the prime-time game if the Yankees are in the AL Wild Card game.

Dave, why doesn’t MLB cut 2 games off of the regular season, and add them to the Wild Card games? That way the Wild Card will be a three game series that could be played potentially on a Fri, Sat, Sun with the Division Series starting on Tues. I think it would make the Wild Card Series a fairer contest, and it would reward the Division winners by giving them more time off. Also, haow many Astros fans are going to actually attend games 161 and 162 anyway?

So the MLB may wait until Thursday to decide the times of the Wildcard Games. How is this fair to the fans? Give us 1 day notice for making plans to attend the game. Just pick times for each game and sick to it!

BUCSFAN70, there you go using common sense and logic which doth not prevaileth in the minds of the likes of Bud Selig and the “powers-that-be” at MLB. Those who are highly intelligent do not always possess CS and L, contrary to the beliefs of some.
Also, WYOMING, the times I saw in another article on another website was that MLB and TBS had the times of 6 and 9 PM as good possibilities. However, that 9PM was more likely if it included a West coast team. May be 5 and 8 if not.
What’s gotten into TBS wanting the Yankees for a prime time game? Are they now in cahoots with ESPN and MLB? Has TBS forgotten who made them what they are? That’s “traitor-type” stuff right there! Here’s hoping the Yanks get their butts knocked out in the first round. Tired of “Yankees this and Yankees that” all the time. Every time I switched to ESPN last night there was the Yankees! SCREW THE YANKEES!

The one-game playoff is the worst idea yet. You give up a 3-run homer in the first and your season could start to unravel quickly.

I just looked at the standings and the wild card teams won’t be decided until at least late Wednesday under any scenario. If the Cardinals win tonight or the Dodgers lose tonight, St. Louis will clinch, and the Braves-Cardinals game will be set in stone.

But there are still way too many variables in the AL. The Yankees and Rangers could clinch their respective divisions tonight if everything falls right, but even then, you would have the Orioles and A’s with identical 92-69 records, meaning MLB wouldn’t know which coast the AL Wild Card game will be played on.

I like the notion that the game will be played at either 4 or 8, but isn’t is possible that TBS and MLB might move the start time for the games up to something like 6:30 and 10 if the AL game is in Oakland (especially if the Yankees aren’t involved)?

Hopefully the Braves can keep the tradition of wild card teams of the past going and have some good luck. The only problem is that even the wild card teams are peaking at this time, and the Braves are still spotty. Hope they get past this game Friday, otherwise everything else is a moot point.

Why do the Yankees always get the preferential treatment? I mean, i know mathematically why, but I think it sucks either way. If the Braves game starts at 4pm, it will mean that I will have to miss 2/3 of the game before i can get home from work. Damn Yankees!!

They are first come, first serve, usually $15-$25 depending on the game. The lot directly across from the East gate of Turner Field is where i usually park, easy to get in/out. If you’re coming 75 North: take exit 245, follow the traffic turning left on Hank Aaron Drive. The lot is about two blocks up on the right.

I hate the way the wild card is set up. I’m all for having more teams, but it shouldn’t come down to one game. BASEBALL IS A GAME OF SERIES! It is not or should not be a do or die scenario unless it absolutely has to. This does not absolutely have to be like that.

Have it be a best of three series instead, or better yet don’t do it. I like the top four teams, if they want to expand the field and make it fair, the field would need to be expanded to eight teams and then have it go best of three series, best of five, best of seven and world series be best of seven as well.

Uneven amounts of teams (5!) simply don’t work and just isn’t fair to the 4th team. And the fact that the number 1 seed has to play the first two games away is absurd. They do technically have home field, but the number 1 team should be rewarded with true home field advantage. MLB dropped the ball with this format this year.

I completely agree about the format. You’ve played 162 games worth of a series format and the rest of the playoffs are a series format as well. Having a 1 game tie breaker is one thing but this isn’t a tie breaker, the BRaves will have a better record than whoever the end up playing. That being said,

If you can’t win with

Bourn
Prado
Heyward
Jones
Freeman
Uggla
McCann
Simmons

and Medlen on the mound you don’t deserve it. That lineup and bullpen is WS worthy and the starting pitching is more than adequate. But it’s the BRaves, traditionally they play in the playoffs, but don’t win in them.

So the PARKING is sold out already and the GAME isn’t? How is that possible? I also love the networks deciding the course of my life a day or so ahead of time. Set a game time and stick to it. The fans are so sick of being jerked around by the networks based on whether their darlings from the Bronx are involved. It’s disgraceful how the fans are an afterthought to the powers-that-be.

High Socks Mondays

They should spot the first-place wild card team the number of games they are up in runs. So, if the Braves finish 8 games ahead of the Cardinals, they should start the game 8-0 in the top of the first.

And, yes, I realize this is a preposterous suggestion and will never happen. But I wish it would.

The Braves then proceed to CRUSH THE CARDINAL NATION by taking Games 5, 6 and 7 (and by a combined score of 32-1). With sympathies to the two ex-Braves & current Braves announcers who were members of that Cardinals squad (Brian Jordan and Ron Gant), but THAT was an EPIC FAIL!
