Reds’ top prospect Billy Hamilton will move from shortstop to center field next season.
Yikes. A strong team will get even stronger. Stubbs will not be around there much longer.
Mesoraco, Votto, Phillips, Cozart, Frazier, Ludwick, B. Hamilton, Bruce – very good team.
The focus for the post season should be making sure hanson is not on the roster!! He is horrible right now! Please trade him we have enough pitchers to get by without him!
they did not misjudge Hanson all that much, he did pretty well until the middle of last season when he got hurt
October 2nd, 20128:42 pm
Lyle….flashing the lumber.
Overbay is looking better. And boy McCutchen can cover some ground
You guys talk a big game…but I know you guys will all be hitting the sale rack for a cheap Hanson jersey this off season in the clubhouse store!
October 2nd, 20128:43 pm
Trivia question: Bourn? Uggla?
Tommy (#7 starter) Hanson
October 2nd, 20128:44 pm
The kid is more entertaining than this game is. Funny interview. So the kid is playing the ladies and can figure out a hand brace, even though Bourn can’t. Doesn’t say much for Bourns IQ huh?
“You Mean I Can’t Chant ‘Larry’ Anymore?”
only use for Hanson in post-season would be as a ROOGY. I could see matching him up against some righty who has trouble with the curveball to get a K in a tight spot. But I’m not sure I would even trust him then not to hang one.
October 2nd, 20128:45 pm
Fols, I’d never buy a Hanson jersey.
It’s really a bit late to get the tuchus in gear….I see/sense urgency now within the dugout dynamic….this team needs to come better out of the gate or it will be ‘curtains’ soon.
October 2nd, 20128:46 pm
We could roll out Hanson during the PS…no team will have done their homework on this guy and we can catch them napping!
man what a bench
October 2nd, 20128:47 pm
“they did not misjudge Hanson all that much, he did pretty well until the middle of last season when he got hurt”
Two Brave “dart throwers,” Chuck James and Tommy Hanson. How could anyone watch either of these guys and expect long term success with those mechanics?
October 2nd, 20128:48 pm
What’s Hanson doing pitching in the 6th? LOL
only use for Hanson in post-season would be as a ROOGY.
True, but I bet that Gearrin has better numbers against righties than Hanson does.
but I know you guys will all be hitting the sale rack for a cheap Hanson jersey this off season in the clubhouse store!
Never owned one… no need to buy one know as he’s likely gone.
October 2nd, 20128:49 pm
Hanson needs to go away…dude is terrible.
wth…don’t need to go into the “play-in” on a losing streak! come on, bravos! you worked too hard!
October 2nd, 20128:52 pm
Sooo yeah. Looking like I’m going to be 0-3 at PNC after tonight lol
Waffle House or Bust
As a baseball fan, I love all the playoff races going on. As a Braves fan, not loving limping into the playoffs. Sitting the starters never worked for Bobby so we will see what happens.
October 2nd, 20128:53 pm
I hope this is the LAST time we ever see Homer Hansen trott out to the mound in a Braves uniform, unless it is as a ball boy.
October 2nd, 20128:54 pm
Different catcher and another stolen base. Problem isn’t the catcher!
October 2nd, 20128:55 pm
If Tommy Hanson goes to another team, he’ll be an ace.
At the very least he’ll be better than he is now.
Well you guys are nuts…my entire family is getting Hanson jersey’s…..they will embrace the name on the front and forget who’s on the back!
October 2nd, 20128:56 pm
Pirate Dudes are padding stats tonight….finding treasure at every corner, and, successfully abriding the existing wounds possessed by the 2012 edition of your Atlanta Braves.
October 2nd, 20128:57 pm
Christmas at Fols….get your Hanson Player T’s here! I might even wrap one for myself just to make sure I get something good this year!
Supposedly he’d be an ace for the Royals right now. That’s just awful.
October 2nd, 20129:00 pm
DOB, Just a couple years ago it seemed Hanson was untouchable and destined to be our overpowering ace for many years. Now it seems the most likely guy to be traded this winter. While surely he hasn’t reached Jurrjens status of being untradeable, his market surely has taken a tremendous hit. He has injury concerns, can’t hold runners, has lost velocity, and seemingly the confidence of the team. Yet he has won 13 games on a playoff team and is only 26 years old. What’s he worth? Who would have thought just recently that our future wouldn’t include either Jurrjens or Hanson? I’m thinking we better put him in a deal this year before this becomes Jurrjens x2. Agree or Disagree?
October 2nd, 20129:01 pm
My Braves too—How much did I want us to finish on a sky high note? I’ll just say I am downcast and disappointed because I truly feel we could do better than this crappy score [only 1 run again].
October 2nd, 20129:02 pm
Fortunately for the Braves, they’ll all such a bunch of duds, they don’t have gold diggers trying to get pregnant and get all their money like the athletes in the new 30 for 30 doc.
October 2nd, 20129:03 pm
I was hoping that Ben Sheets could give it another go in ST, but only he knows how far he can push it.
I appreciate what he was able to do for us & he wraps up a ery very good career tommorrow.
FW did make some nice pickups over the course of the yr and here we are as the top WC team in the league.
The more I think of it, we really have overachieved & its been an outstanding year.
A long post season run will make it more special.
Reed lost his beard
Kevin McAlpin @KevinMcAlpin
Tommy Hanson’s line: 6 IP, 9 H, 5 R, 1 BB, 6 K, 1 HR, 1 HBP, 91 pitches (67 for strikes). Hanson makes it through 6 for 1st time since 8/17
October 2nd, 20129:04 pm
my entire family is getting Hanson jersey’s…..they will embrace the name on the front and forget who’s on the back!
Sorry about the tsunami. Glad y’all got the Red Cross packages.
Bye bye Hanson… gonna miss ya.
October 2nd, 20129:05 pm
I even suggested starting Marteen on the mound, but noooooooo…
Just kidding. Mitchell, lighten up. Last 2 games aren’t going to count for anything anyway.
October 2nd, 20129:06 pm
Bye Bye Strikeout Hinske. Gonna miss you.
This is not exactly “limping” into the playoffs. Braves September record has been excellent. Yes, last night they were terrible. The next 2 are irrelevant. Bobby’s teams spent the last 2 weeks resting guys and coasting in. Much different mindset on this team as far as I can tell. And if they can’t muster a sense of urgency in a 1-game playoff, then the rest of the post-season was irrelevant anyway.
October 2nd, 20129:07 pm
Darn… that was a play.
Tommy Hanson was given a golden opportunity to audition for another team as a starting pitcher tonight. And what he did was allow a slightly below average lineup to exploit him for five runs (all earned) off nine hits, one walk and six K’s over six complete innings pitched. That is an ERA of 7.5, and that is awful!
There is no way the Braves are going to keep Hanson. With his arbitration coming due, the Braves are not going to want to keep him. My guess is they will release him outright. The reason is Brandon Beachy will return and if he returns to form, one cannot arrange the deck chairs to give Hanson a starting slot.
Next year’s rotation will most likely be: Kris Medlen, Tim Hudson, Mike Minor, Brandon Beachy, and Paul Maholm. That leaves talented Randall Delgado and Julio Teheran out of the rotation, and both of these pitchers would slot nicely into a rotation on many other major league teams.
Frankly, Hanson does not belong in spring training competing for a starting job and the bullpen is also way too deep for a realistic slot.
I am most curious to see Ben Sheets tomorrow. If he pitches well, it sets him up nicely for a contract with some team and a good chance to restart his career in spring training.
Garla — The Braves would be lucky to get a package of 2 mid level prospects for Hanson.
If they cannot get another team to take him they might as well non tender him — He is a lousy second half pitcher. The velocity is gone and with that delivery he will be lucky to last in MLB to age 30 if he lasts that long.
Big disappointment. He deserves to be Booed.
I hope he is gone in 2013. He is a BUMB.
This team is downright embarrassing.
October 2nd, 20129:08 pm
Reed, you were supposed to flip not hop.
Adam Kilgore @AdamKilgoreWP
The Reds are down 1-0 in the third to St. Louis. If the Nats win and the Reds lose, the Nats clinch the top seed. Nats now up 3-1.
Need to trade Hanson ASAP after season over – for anything they can get.
Fols, if I get one with a player’s name on the back, it will be a player that I actually like, or I will just as easily get a jersey with the name on front and nothing on back.
October 2nd, 20129:09 pm
What….high jump competition. Sorry, sad and sad…..that guy is out of shape [cardio]….and we send runners to home that just can’t run…….hello, Mr. Snitker???
I could not care less if the Braves win or lose this game, and with Hanson on the bump I didn’t expect them to win anyway, but I really want them to take tomorrow’s game. I don’t want to see them go into Friday’s game on a three game losing streak.
October 2nd, 20129:10 pm
Rev at SS
Do they put names on the back of the grounds crew? If so, maybe that’s where we can find Hansen next year.
October 2nd, 20129:11 pm
Ken Stallings — BB is not going to be ready to start the season best bet is to count on him for 2014.
But I agree with you about Homer Hanson. We have to get someone better or at least cheaper.
They can get a number 5 SP in FA for as cheap as they can sign Hanson in ARB & as bad as Hanson is in the second half, I’d rather go with a servicable vet for 5 to 7 mil per.
They can pick up some one cheap late in FA when there are some guys begging for a contract. I do not think they will be active early in FA, cause of spending restraints.
knew that as so as i saw the “we have no interest in winning tonight line up” for the braves.
October 2nd, 20129:12 pm
No Hanson will never be an ace when anyone can steal off him. Listen to Chip and Joe where would we be without Sheets and MaHolm eight wins wow they also lost what nine games. We also need a third base coach the guy we got is blind in one eye.Cards scoring every game while Braves try. The NL central kick are asses with Reds Cubs Brewers and Pirates. Please if we bear Cards leave Hanson off roster.
October 2nd, 20129:13 pm
We don’t have to sign a vet to be our #5…. just use Delgado
was that jeff locke or sandy koufax pitching for the pirates last night, braves sometimes make it hard to tell the difference.
There’s your Chipper replacement.
October 2nd, 20129:14 pm
Reed Johnson is answer to trivia question… that was my 3rd guess
October 2nd, 20129:15 pm
Hinske and Overbay have swung the balls well today.
Constanza cliniched himself NLDS roster spot
Baker was miserable in his at bats
October 2nd, 20129:16 pm
Sheets is retiring after tomorrow
How many of you realize that this could be Tommy Hanson’s last game pitched as a Brave?
October 2nd, 20129:17 pm
“This team is downright embarrassing”
you just have to think of these last 2 games like they’re NFL Preseason games, other than trying to avoid injury they have no meaning
Reed Johnson is very slow
“There’s your Chipper replacement.”
I wonder what our W-L record is in home games after a day off. I know it’s not good.
October 2nd, 20129:18 pm
Pasternicky has that swing worked. Would make a great 7th inning pinch hitter
October 2nd, 20129:19 pm
I’ve realized it….and am quite happy about it.
Woman just held up a sign…. the Freedy Freeman fan club. Sigh.
October 2nd, 20129:21 pm
Replacement NFL ref umpiring 3rd tonight??
Blind umps again… he didn’t go. And they threw him out too.
Think Freddie just got tossed. Even the Pirates guys thought he was right- that was not a strike
October 2nd, 20129:22 pm
Well, at least Freddie is showing a little passion.
October 2nd, 20129:23 pm
I think “Freedy” is combining Freddie and Freeman was their intent.
Overbay with some productive ABs lately…

October 2nd, 20129:26 pm
Agree. Braves have decent harmony with their staff and add Delgado to the mix and they should be all right for next year too!
October 2nd, 20129:27 pm
Another idiot, incompetent umpire….
I predicted two flabsisco errors tonight….halfway home!
Another sad effort.
October 2nd, 20129:30 pm
James Shields – 9 IP, 2 hits, 1 ER, 0 BB’s, 15 K’s tonight for the Rays. Crazy.
Guy is a stud. Rays probably aren’t trading him.
Notice the TV nitwits didn’t ask for a slo-mo look at the swing. A lot of times the slo-mo shows he went further than it seemed in real time. Maybe he went, probably didn’t…but doesn’t surprise me that the nitwits didn’t want to take the chance. They are horrible.
October 2nd, 20129:32 pm
Replay was shown, and that was not even close.
October 2nd, 20129:34 pm
“I thought it was Carl Farbman”
You’re probably right. As you can see from my writings, details escape me.
Chad Durbin, not so bad after all.
Until he gives up the game winning home run in Game 5.
Where the hell did I get Game 5?
Beating the Cardinals is going to take a miracle.
But Durbin, not terrible. So there you go.
October 2nd, 20129:35 pm
Orioles win 1-0…
October 2nd, 20129:36 pm
yay Orioles win, now it’s up to you Boston
October 2nd, 20129:39 pm
Fransisco should be trying to get on base instead of taking big swings
October 2nd, 20129:40 pm
Well can’t dwell on this……divisional series? Perhaps…..Possible…..Precarious.
Lee in S GA
Orioles win 1-0…
besides the Braves this is the other playoff team that I want to go all the way……..can tell no Yankee fans are lurking on this blog
October 2nd, 20129:42 pm
Baker stinks. No way should he be on the roster even on Friday
What a fitting 2012 finale for Hanson.
October 2nd, 20129:43 pm
Chipper’s likely to fall 1gm short of reaching 2500 games.
October 2nd, 20129:44 pm
Constanza has put up solid at bats. He can play role in the post season
Nice way for Hanson to end his 2012 season and possibly his Braves career…
October 2nd, 20129:46 pm
Kevin McAlpin @KevinMcAlpin
Tommy Hanson finishes the 2012 season with a 13-10 record. #Braves
12 of those wins came before July 31…
1 more game and they’ll suffer back to back regular season ending sweeps. I guess it doesn’t matter, epic collapse = season ending sweep, clinching a spot in the playoff = potential season ending sweep … either way the team just dies in the last 3 games
October 2nd, 20129:49 pm
Worries me when the talkers and the commentators go on and on about how Medlen is unbeaten in so many games – they are jinxing him.
There are no guarantees esp. in a playoff game. It will take good hitting, pitching, defense and luck to win the game on Fri.
Five home runs on the season for James Loney?
I didn’t know he was a Brave.
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
