bravofan…Who’s Chris McCann?????
I much credence should I give to a guy that thinks its a smart move not to start “Chris McCann” tonight because Meldeen has a special relationship with Ross?
October 5th, 201212:07 pm
Whoops…….. A guy on ESPN*
October 5th, 201212:08 pm
October 5th, 201212:10 pm
That in itself is a win-win IMO!
Is this the Same Pedro Gomez that Pick in April the Angels to win WS?
October 5th, 201212:11 pm
Yeah, forget those guys! That team has gotten so freakin’ lucky! My wife (Rangers fan) bet her friend down the street (Cards fan) that the Rangers would win the WS last year. She called and taunted her before game 6. Yep….we made ‘em a steak dinner after the WS was over. I hate, hate, hate the Cardinals!
October 5th, 201212:12 pm
…although they do have a beautiful stadium. My late brother got to see a game at Old Busch while a student at Washington University….Cards/Cubs, and bought an STL hat (he was still a Braves fan), but he always collected ball caps of team whose games he attended.
Jersey Gil – wow!
October 5th, 201212:13 pm
…..that was the year they met the Twins in the WS. Another twist is that my Step-Dad was a Minnesotan. So, my brother rooted for the Cards, and my Stepdad rooted for the Twins.
October 5th, 201212:14 pm
… I don’t even feel bad they got shafted by that call in the ‘85 WS against the Royals.
October 5th, 201212:16 pm
In ‘91, my parents had to watch the WS in separate rooms to avoid killing each other. Probably the closest they ever got to a divorce.
Yes, this is me rambling on, going down memory lane. Tell me when you guys have had enough.
Crap. I just went out to get the mail, and there was a cardinal in my front yard…
October 5th, 201212:17 pm
I hate ESPN. I almost exclusively watch MLB. Their analysis is about 20 times better. All the cool ex-ESPN guys are over there. Only time I’ll watch ESPN during baseball season is if the Braves are playing on that channel.
Tomahawkin (LCS or BUST)
Tailgate is already happenin’ in the ‘old KFC private lot’ directly across from the Northeast Gate! Stop by to see Beverly & the Crew! And then rally in the Chophouse… it’s time to get WILD on those Cards! GO BRAVES!!!
October 5th, 201212:18 pm
hope you beat it.
Yeah, and the Cardinal is the State Bird in VA.
Venice Jim….yeah Wow…I remember that day like today….Never i forgot that Day….Clemente is my Idol….I met him a couple time in San Juan , i was working with a CPA Firm that provide him with services for a couple Charity he was running.
Also My birthday is Aug 18, same of Clemente.
October 5th, 201212:19 pm
Wish I could be at Turner today! You guys get loud and crazy for me!
October 5th, 201212:20 pm
Today is the day!!
What, five hours out.
I work 4 ten hour days….so I’m off on Fridays.
Ready for the game!!
“… it’s time to get WILD on those Cards! GO BRAVES!!!
BUCK wild !!!!
October 5th, 201212:21 pm
usnavy – 45,000 will have tomahawks.
Should be like the good old days.
Granted this was Wikipedia, but in my reading I learned that the reason he made that ill-fated flight was that the corrupt government of Nicaragua was diverting the supplies from previous flights to government officials instead of the people who needed it. So he went with the 4th(I believe) flight to make sure it got where it was supposed to.
October 5th, 201212:22 pm
4.5 hours. 162 games cards comes down to one. Short trip, bad landing.
I can’t wait. My aunt is a retired Roswell School System PE teacher (did it for over 30 years), and I’m pretty sure she’s going to be there representing.

October 5th, 201212:23 pm
The Cards are 12-55 when scoring 3 or less….
Lets see if we can make that one hold up to the law of averages today….
Their highest 2 averages where they score runs, the 1st and 3rd….shut them down early and score a few in the first 3 innings and lets get a W!
My Son just text me that he got ticket for today WC Game….I’m jelous
I will be wearing my #10 for the game.
October 5th, 201212:24 pm
usnavy – I’ll be represented by several bloggers!
I’ve also got my bill flattened out on my Braves cap.
what was your impression of Clemente, if you don’t mind my asking.
October 5th, 201212:25 pm
do you still have the label on the bill of your cap, though?:-)
October 5th, 201212:26 pm
Clemente – Yes, I remember the day. I was 9 years old and fully aware of who he was.
I also remember the day Munson died. Sad days.
don’t be jealous…be proud.
Roberto Clemente was a class individual, and an awesome baseball player. Interesting story Gil! Hope you have been well.
October 5th, 201212:27 pm
Can’t wait guys….
Make sure you get nice and loud for me too and make sure to tell all the people around you to stand up….
Gotta make the moments even bigger and be loud for those of us who have to listen and watch on the tv….
Getting out my LED tomahawk I got this past weekend when I get home….
CHOP CHOP CHOP!
usnavy – no, label and tags are off.
Got to run out for a bit.
Let’s go in KNOWING we will win.
Later good folks.
Munson died in ‘80, right?
October 5th, 201212:28 pm
Wow….wonder how much that set him back
October 5th, 201212:29 pm
Jimmy. JK. Seems like the “in” thing nowadays. My wife would NEVER let me wear a baseball cap like that.
October 5th, 201212:31 pm
usnavyvolfaninva …That is True….also in that Day he got a few friends in his House for celebrate the New Year….One of those friend want to go with him in the Plane andhe say no…he was one of the Pirates Pitcher….don’t remember his name now..
Brave New World
October 5th, 201212:32 pm
ESPN picks the Cards? BFD. GO BAVES!
October 5th, 201212:33 pm
Umpires for Nationals/Wild Card Winner – Joe West, Ed Hickox, Alfonso Marquez, Jim Joyce, Paul Emmel and Marvin Hudson (Hudson and West the only umps to toss Davey from a game in the past 12 years)…
Let’s try that again – ESPN picks the Cards? BFD. GO BRAVES!
October 5th, 201212:35 pm
Venice Jim: As long as Eric Gregg isn’t umping behind the plate today it’s all ok.
Brian from SC
Cowboy Joe in the NLDS? Boooooo
October 5th, 201212:36 pm
One of those guys isn’t that clown we had umping 1b during the Marlins Series, is it?
“I will be wearing my #10 for the game.”
I got My 22 Heyward Jersey Shirt “On Deck!” I will be dedicating it and J-Hey’s Comeback season to Heyward’s Biggest Fan
1 more hour of work!
October 5th, 201212:37 pm
I’m wearing my dark blue Uggla t shirt today. To be honest, when not at the game (and even when at the game to a certain degree) I feel a bit juvenile wearing a players number and name on a shirt!
So I am not sure how I’m going to deal with things when I go out for some lunch in another hour or so.
Clemente was one of down to earth guy i ever met….he like to help people ,special children….he conduct Baseball clinic every saturday in Carolina (His native City) and all the food and Drink was pay by him.
October 5th, 201212:38 pm
from MLB-Breaking News- Reports say Eric Gregg will come out of retirement to umpire during the NLDS series between Washington and Braves/Cards winner.
October 5th, 201212:39 pm
@VJ…..Wow, you all are getting Braves baseball @2pm out there today.
Not a bad crew….can’t say Ive ever liked Cowboy Joe though….he is part of the pompous *ss entitled umpire list….
How can Joe West keep getting these assignments??? What an ego.
Thanks for sharing. Always good to get a perspective on a famous player from one of us “common-folk”
October 5th, 201212:40 pm
I’m wearing my better half’s #10 panties.
Go Chipper !!
October 5th, 201212:42 pm
And EG will have to come back from way beyond retirement to get to the game!!!
Like back from the grave!
(Even though he screwed us in 1997, I still hope he is resting in peace!)
thanks for sharing. Hopefully she won’t take pictures. Good blackmail material for later. LOL.
OOOOHHHH….bad form on my part. Didn’t know he died. OOOps.
October 5th, 201212:45 pm
are we ever going to get a new blog? DOB….cmon!!!!!
For those interesting to learn More about Clemente life there
’s a Book “Clemente” THE PASSION AND GRACE OF A BASEBALL’S LAST HERO”
writer by David Maraniss…..Good Book…a lot of Detail of him….
EG was 2 years younger than I am now when he passed in 2006. Suffered a stroke. Poor guy had weight issues for many years. Being 30-40 lbs overweight myself, I can understand the frustrations. But poor EG was upwards of 400 lbs at one point.
The worst crew for the 1 game today would be:
HP – Doug Eddings
1b – Bob Davidson
2b – CB Buckner
3b – Laz Diaz
OF – Kerwin Danley
OF – Hunter Wendelstedt
October 5th, 201212:46 pm
Yeah, a stroke was what killed my Dad in ‘08.
October 5th, 201212:48 pm
….we had a tumultuous relationship for many years, but we patched things up when my brother died. Fortunately, he left the world with us on good terms.
October 5th, 201212:49 pm
DOB is probably taking the day off just to irritate a certain poster on here.
October 5th, 201212:50 pm
Yeah, I’ve amassed a list of books I want to get. Last year, my wife got me a book of MLB’s baseball parks from the very beginning to present day…loved it. Also, got a bio of Joe DiMaggio. Made me a fan overnight.
October 5th, 201212:51 pm
I have two top favorites that I don’t think I have ever mentioned herein……earlier one individual was talked about favorably on the blog…..Roberto Clemente… and The Mick; having grown up in NJ–till age 10–we got all the Yankee & Mets games on TV….Red Barber, Phil Rizzuto, Lindsey Nelson=my favorite announcers/I played 1st base in LL back then so I was a big Joe Pepitone guy and, of course, Mets had Ed Kranepool 1B……………………………………………..until Rusty Staub came over.
“Dog walks 2 miles to pay visit to owner in hospital.” Dang, now THAT’s loyalty!
October 5th, 201212:52 pm
Frank Wren checks in on 680 at 1:30 ET in case you want to listen
Lindsey Nelson…Voice of the Vols pre John Ward.
Freddie has guts…Bobby didn’t. Bobby would have started Hudson tonight. Bobby would have started the year and a half slumping McCann. I now have respect for Feddi G, he is his own man and I applaud his decisions.
October 5th, 201212:53 pm
Feels like the clocks slowing down the closer to 1st pitch we get.
Got my #24 jersey on today.
October 5th, 201212:55 pm
MLB’s baseball parks from the very beginning to present day.from this book i took the Idea to collect miniature baseball Stadium i got it all…from the Old one to the New one…this company in PA “The Mints’ send me info everytime they has a new one.
Attn: New Blog coming out @2:37 pm………:)
October 5th, 201212:59 pm
no big surprises on the roster. Got plenty of lefty hitters so Baker over Francisco is good.
usnavyvolfaninva…..I retired last year….and my co worker give me as a good bye present a Clemente Original # 21 Jersey.
John Ward….very special, and he could paint a picture of the game action/ebb and flo/with the best. “Give him 6″…..”Touchdown Big Orange”…….[w/emphasis:]..Touchdown “Marcus Nash!”
October 5th, 20121:01 pm
Glad to hear you and your dad patched things up. Life is too darned short to let things come between us. Fortunately for me, I have always had a good relationship with my mom/dad and my kids.
Can I nominate Angel Hernandez for worst umpire list?
And who was that ump that kicked out BC a Chipper a few years back? Was that the guy with the big moustache? Can’t remember his name.
Munson died in August of 78 or 79….pretty sure it was 79.
I was tossing a baseball around in my grandparent’s front yard when I heard….
Don’t remember Clemente’s death since i was only 5, unlike a few of you elderly sorts.
October 5th, 20121:02 pm
We’re only going to need O’Flaherty for the 8th and Kimbrel for the 9th today. Everybody else on the bench is gonna be sitting all day.
October 5th, 20121:03 pm
Tick, tock, tick, tock….
Only 4 hours until Chipper’s last game….sigh.
I just told my wife that if she see me cry today is because today will be the last time i will see Chipper Jones play. but if she see me jumping around that mean that will see Chipper agains…..GO BRAVES
October 5th, 20121:04 pm
Blog comment above: could be factual, but most likely is not.
“We’re only going to need O’Flaherty for the 8th and Kimbrel for the 9th today.”
You sure about that? I’m all for Medlen going all the way.
Fly On The Wall
October 5th, 20121:06 pm
New Years 1972…I was let’s see 19….out on my own somewhere…to many acid trips man…lord knows where I was that day….don’t even remember it…ok….the Fly is ready to watch the rumble in a couple hours. It’s been great year to be a Braves fan.
Let’s blow the Red Birds out and get some pay back for last year…GO BRAVES!
October 5th, 20121:08 pm
I have this overwhelmingly positive outlook for this game!!!!
This isn’t like me.
Check back during the game to see if I’ve returned to my lovable normal!
1979 for Munson. Was too young!
@Phil………..Oh, man Phil—the way he travels and with his appetite for hunting….I am sure Chipper will see much more ‘game’ sooner than you state.
October 5th, 20121:10 pm
CS numbers just given -
Ross 44% CS
McCann 24% CS
Soooo….where is the guy who said Rossy is “marginally” better on D…..
We’re going to be 7-8 runs ahead by the middle of the game. We might pull him early and let Durbin or Venters get in an inning to save Kris for the continuing playoffs.
October 5th, 20121:11 pm
@DS 1……Remember the day pretty well….very sad of course…he was Captain of those Yanks
October 5th, 20121:12 pm
Medlen goes 7, 8 ks, 2 walks, 1 or 2 earned….
EOF and Kimbrel mow em down and that’s that.
Chipper goes 2-4 with a double and 2 meaningless ribs….
That is all.
October 5th, 20121:13 pm
I said it, and I still believe it. Catching is a lot more than just throwing out runners. The most important aspect of catching is calling the game. And Mac is one of the best.
No disrespect to Ross, because he is an overall better defensive catcher than Mac, but the difference is not enough to say we are disadvantaged when Mac is in.
I stand by my statement that Ross is only marginally better defensively than Mac.
(that’s my story, and I’m sticking to it!)
October 5th, 20121:14 pm
Gotta say I LOVE the confidence….
Thats what I had the score at
“We’re going to be 7-8 runs ahead by the middle of the game.”
I watched the Cardinals last year in the playoffs, make it 12-14 runs and we have a deal.
October 5th, 20121:16 pm
just finished lunch. chopped off and destroyed red bird tenders (chicken tenders covered with hot sauce) …bwahahaha!!
“I stand by my statement that Ross is only marginally better defensively than Mac.”
All the numbers seem to indicate Ross is a better game caller for Medlen, not to mention a better defensive catcher, not to mention a better base runner, not to mention (at worst) an equal bat to McCann right now.
October 5th, 20121:17 pm
Mac was awful all year, in all phases….why is irrelevant.
One of the reasons is something I promised McFann I wouldn’t keep saying. Others are clearly injury and probably mechanics. Confidence has to be shot as well. Not shaving that god awful, ugly beard is clearly another. Birth of his child? No excuse.
Bottom line is he stunk it up. He earned a spot alongside Jeff Porter for this evening. Hopefully he bounces back next year.
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
