Which is more likely tonight — the Braves get 2 hits and get shut out, or to shock everyone with 7 runs?
Well, they get 2 hits and shutout with the regular lineup, so I’d say it’s more likely that they break out with 7 runs.

I worry less about the Medlen streak continuing than I do (did) about a win streak continuing. Had the Braves swept the Pirates I would be way more worried going in to Friday… the team just doesn’t do long winning streaks.

The award is the 2nd-straight POM for Medlen, who also won in Aug. He ranked 1st in MLB with 46 K, 3rd in the NL with 43 IP and T3rd in wins
Minor was pretty good too, maybe even better. Gotta check the stats.

Probably cannot win. But I could see a top 5 finish for both Medlen & Kimbrel. You got 2 20 game winners & Cueto. Outside those 3, I do not know who else belongs there.

Am I correct in stating that MLB TV revenues are split equally between all teams? So when MLB, FOX, ESPN and TBS announce new contracts, it means each team gets roughly 1/30th of the contract?
FOX and TBS signed on for about $800M a year.
ESPN signed on for about $700M a year.
That’s a total of about $1.5B a year in TV revenues for years 2014-2021. So if they do divvy that up evenly, that’s about $50M a year per team. The old ESPN contract is half the new one, if the FOX, TBS is similar, the amount has doubled… Not that that will give ATL a competitive advantage, but it’s just more salt in the wounds of payroll limits.

Minor: 5 starts, 31 IP. He went 4-0, the team was 4-1 in his starts. Allowed 13 Hits, 3 runs (all earned), 1HR, 28Ks, and 9BBs. 0.87 ERA and a .129/.205/.208/.413 oppo. line.
Medlen: 6 starts, 43 IP. He went 4-0, and the team was 6-0 in his starts. Allowed 26 Hits, 8 runs (6 earned), 4 HR, 46Ks, and 5BB. 1.26 ERA and a .169/.195/.279/.474 oppo. line.
Both would have been good choices, and I’m sure Medlen making history helped a bit.

Medlen wins NL Pitcher of the Month for second consecutive month. That’s highly unusual. Then, so is everything he’s done since moving to rotation….
Sheets will start tomorrow, his 250th career start, then likely retire. Has told some he’s retiring, though Braves officials haven’t been told yet.

To be honest, I’d rather the 2nd wildcard NOT go to a playoff Thursday. I understand there’s a lot of travel involved, and maybe spending another pitcher. However, these are the scenarios that make for October “us against the world” magic moments. Especially when the Cardinals are involved. We don’t need the Cards coming in here all high off an exciting do or die game. I fear they could roll us. Maybe not, but I’d rather the Cards lose the last 2 and have the Dodgers lose on the last day to back the Cards in.

Heck Chipper is retiring, doesn’t mean the guy can’t still play. Would love to see Sheets get a playoff start. If Tommy Hanson is going to get a playoff start, I’d rather Sheets start in his place.

I assume Minor was in the picture for POM? Oh, and as for Medlen’s roll, I’m glad he hasn’t lost. It’s not like he’s on one of those Jurrjens “play with fire every night” rolls that’s bound to implode any second. Dude has been dominating since he took the ball, and I so no reason barring injury why it should stop.

OK, OK, let’s get this straight once and for all, and I am including myself, so don’t jump on me. Everybody, even DOB, is doing this, and he should know better. My 10th grade English teacher, bless her heart, would be proud of me for doing this. (Only one who ever gave me all A’s) It is not Wild Card, nor wild card, nor wild-card, or even Wildcard. It is simply wildcard. Not capitalized and not hyphenated. Based on this article DOB can’t make up his mind which it is either. I’ seen him use it several different ways. It’s driving me crazy because it’s being used so much now, and usually differently by everybody. OK, class dismissed!

There is no need for Hanson to be on the playoff roster at all. There will be no need for a 5th starter, and we’d be better off with an extra bullpen arm. 7 relievers — Kimbrel, EOF,Venters, Avilan, Durbin, and choose 2 (Gearrin, Moylan, Martinez) or take all 3.

I can’t seem to find a straight answer on this…
…If we win Friday night, do we know when our first Home Game will be? I keep hearing different days and the MLB Post Season schedule shows multiple days. Also, some are saying that Home Field Advantage does not mean the series starts in that city this year….True?

And no, technically we would not have home field advantage because games 3-5 would be on the road. But having the first 2 games at home (for this year only- the format changes next season) is an advantage in my view

love that Sheets was able to come back to the majors and make an impact, even if it was brief. I hope he has a great last start then enjoys being a full time dad. Injuries did shorten a promising career but it is nice to see he can retire on his terms.

Fredi said Braves might carry 16 position players and 9 pitchers for Wild Card game, instead of 15/10 original plan. Would allow to pinch run for catcher early, etc.

tomorrow is the great debate about whether or not to play the regulars. I would give most of them at least an at bat or two to stay sharp. Then if they want to rest, let them rest. Having the day completely off and not hitting in 4 days will not help them come Friday

If so there is no reason to carry a bunch of starting pitchers for a one game series. Even a 5 game series, I would carry more position players.
