Win One For The Chipper

“This Friday game is SO UNFAIR. The BRAVES have won the WC and should continue on.”

“Just need to take care of business and all will be good. Got Meds on the mound. Get him an early lead, hand it over to the bullpen, and let Kimbrel shut the door.”

Easier said than done on Giving Little Big Man Meds The Early Lead part….

“I think there’s a trophy somewhere for most third-order wins”

Somewhere in “What if …?” land, there’s got to be a list of all the teams that should have won the World Series, but didn’t.

No. There is just having a better idea of which teams performed the best and worst that goes beyond win-loss record and whether they won trophies. Some of us like to know things about teams beyond whether they won trophies. If you don’t, fine.

but it’s OK because they’ll be wasting less money

Exactly. Pagan is a perfect fit for the Braves. Almost the exact same production the team would get from Bourn offensively, average defense, at a much lower price.

If you have a more realistic CF option, I’d love to hear it.

There’s wins. Then there’s a calculation of expected wins based on things behind the wins, i.e. scoring and allowing runs. Those would be 2nd order wins. Then there’s a calculation of expected wins based on things behind those things, like what affects how many runs you score and allow. I think that would be 3rd order wins.

I want to see both Heyward and Freeman in the lineup. Especially Jason. Need to build on some good plate appearances last night. Bourn too. Game action is a good thing for a few of our regulars.

I have a bad feeling about the Friday game against the Cardinals. They have an amazing offense. I expect them to get off to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. Braves will get a chance in the bottom of the first with 2 runners on but Fredie Freeman will swing at the first pitch ball and ground into a double play. The score probably will be 2-0 until Cardinals score 2 more on Beltran Homerun. 4-0. Braves come up with numerous opportunities but Mac and Uggla continue to strike out.
Simmons will probably get a chance to drive a run but probably is too aggressive and ends the rally.

Martin Prado will probably be our only shinning star that night. He will be responsible for the solo run that Braves will score. Braves will lose 4-1. Chipper goes 0-2 with 1 walk. Crowd chants his name and Chipper comes out and tips his cap while tears come down his eyes.

Braves lose this game because Freedie Freeman kept swinging at first pitch balls.
Jason Heyward trying to pull outside pitch resulting in ground out to second.
Uggla striking out 3 times with a lot of runners left on base.
Simmons like Freeman taking early hacks and popping it up.

ill throw one out there. chris young from AZ. $8.5mil on his contract for 2013, $10mil in 2014, with a $1.5 buy out, so $10mil garunteed left on the deal.

great defense, lots of pop, and hits lefties. drawbacks are his batting average and health, as he has been injured a good but in 2012. but we might could take a chance on a 28 year old athlete without a long commitment. with pagan, we would have to shell out for at least 3 years, probbaly, for a 31 year old.

Or, Lohse could strain his back on the first batter of the game and have to come out. Lynn takes over, but can’t get in rhythm out of the bullpen, and the Braves put up 5 runs in the first three innings. The Cardinals’ mediocre bullpen doesn’t help, and the Braves end up taking it 8-1.

In a sense, this is correct. The postseason is entirely for fun (and money). It doesn’t determine which team was the best MLB team in a given season.

The randomness of the postseason is what makes it fun. The possibility that the Braves, though they may not be the very best MLB team of 2012, still have a shot to win the World Series is fun for us Braves fans.

We certainly don’t want to take away this randomness. But MLB should want to reward the teams that have done more to prove themselves as the best. It’s about finding that balance between keeping the enjoyment of this randomness and rewarding the teams that have proven themselves over the long haul.
