Braves beat Mets in fitting Chipper farewell – updated

It was a great weekend. My first trip to Turner Field couldn’t have been any better, and taking my daughter for her 7th birthday made it so much more special. Flying out from California Friday night, and returning home Monday morning, we didn’t have a lot of extra time to take in the city or even all the things I wanted to see in and around the stadium. I think we saw about half of the stadium, but that just means I have to make another trip in the next year or two.

I know how hard it is to fill turner Field up, but being there when the stands were full, and being able to be a part of the Tomahawk Chop, that was a big highlight for me after seeing it on TV all these years. Watching my little girl grab her tomahawk and stand on her seat to chop every time the music played was fantastic. She loved everything that was going on. She put on her foam Chipper hand every time he came up, she danced every time they were putting people on the jumbotron, and she screamed at the top of her lungs anytime Chipper did anything. There was plenty more that I would have liked to do, but the joy of a child, more excited than I have ever seen her, was worth every penny I spent, and for that, it was a weekend I will never forget. Somehow, a 7 year old little blonde girl made baseball take a backseat during a baseball trip across the country that I have been planning for over a decade, on a weekend that couldn’t have been much bigger of a baseball weekend for a career long Chipper Jones fan.

All of the Braves Fans we met were fantastic. I can’t wait to go back. Thanks Braves Country!
