Puma, I disagree. Rosenthal does not punish the AL Central. They still go to a playoff game, but do not get a bye. The six teams I mentioned above are worthier than the Tigers or Chi-Sox. They still go in, but they gotta go the hard route – one game, win or done. Very fair. Unfair would be if they do not go at all.

Even as a long shot, it’s still fun heading into the final series with the division championship still in the balance.
I’d put the smart money on WAS closing it out at home tomorrow.
When they celebrate the division title, I wonder if anyone asks if that means they don’t think they can still win the Word Series?

Im not a baseball analyst, but, it would be very interesting to see what Braves do with Hanson…..leaving him out of the playoff roster would hurt badly his trade value……wouldnt it?

MiaBch – How is playing a 1 game play in not a punishment for a division winner? And how do you discount the fact that the meaning of division play goes completely down the drain when winning your division really doesn’t mean anything? He is basically saying, top 3 teams by record, regardless of division are in, then #4 & #5 play one game to decide who plays #1. You might as well have no divisions in that scenario, not play more games against teams in your division, and weaken the meaning of all regional rivalries.

We won’t know about playoff rosters and Hanson til after the play-in game. I doubt Hanson or Hudson are on that roster. NLDS roster prolly does not include hanson, but we won’t know it if the roster never gets made.

The Minnesota Twins released Tsuyoshi Nishioka on Friday, ending their experiment with the Japanese middle infielder after two rough seasons.
The move, which the Twins said came at Nishioka’s request and was supported by the club, wasn’t a surprise. But the way he went out was unique.
Accepting blame for his failure to produce at the plate or play capable defense at shortstop and second base, Nishioka waived his right to his $3 million salary for the 2013 season and a $250,000 buyout.
So they don’t owe him any more money, and Nishioka is now a free agent. With guaranteed contracts, major league teams rarely are able to get off the payroll hook like this for players no longer in their plans. But Nishioka, in a statement released by the Twins, was nothing but graceful.
”I would like to thank the Twins organization for helping me fulfill my dream of playing in Major League Baseball,” Nishioka said. ”I take full responsibility for my performance which was below my own expectations. At this time, I have made the decision that it is time to part ways. I have no regrets and know that only through struggle can a person grow stronger. I appreciate all the support the team and the fans in Minnesota and Rochester have shown me.”

BMI does not measure “lard”. It measures weight only. It does not even take into account a person’s gender. So a big boned, well developed male is set to the same scale as a frail small boned female as long as they are the same height. Very stupid.
If you want to measure “lard” test one’s body composition. Then you can know percentage lean body mass as well as percentage of “lard”.

Not just big boned- muscle weighs more than fat, so someone like Vick, who is a lot more muscle than fat, will weigh more than someone that is just fat. I doubt ANYONE with eyes would call Vick overweight or out of shape.

Yes, cab. I said “well developed”…. or I meant to if I didn’t. There are many factors that I did not mention. I tried to keep it simple and brief.
I will say that I think it is possible to be too heavy and yet not be fat. For example, I don’t consider massive bodybuilders as being particularly healthy, though they have very, very little body fat. But that is a whole different ballpark.

I am sorry. I guess I jumped into a conversation without realizing it. I am sorry that BMI has been hurtful to someone on the blog.
cab, health cannot be measured by something as stupid as BMI.
I now am unable to work because I care for aging parents, both of whom have alzheimers. Yet in the 8 yrs that I have cared for them, they have not even had a cold. They now eat healthily and exercise regularly. I don’t know what their BMI is, but their Drs. are very impressed with what has happened to them these years.

it has changed some, but back in my day baseball players were strongly discouraged against using weight training. It is thought of now as beneficial if done carefully but getting bulky can cause problems

Earlier….as posted herein, seems as though some people or is it in fact one–that is counting posts and determining a low comment count is attributed to DOB or someone employed @ajc rendering an inordinate amount of warnings and/or banishments?
Someone feels like they’ve been ‘done wrong?’ Oh my, and I thought I was reading some weird news earlier this past week! Get a grip….whoever….and please see the logic behind the governance.
Furthermore, give me one sane reason why folks have to listen to the rubbish that would deserve such reprimanding action? It is quite simple…if one chooses to use extreme language that requires warning….then they have effectively banned themselves. I doubt there is a DOB Police Unit operating and, additionally, if you require monitoring regularly—you would be best served to take your vile game elsewhere, IMO.

You’re right on the nervous thing, but I swear I had this weird dream a few days ago that we lost 12-8 in that game. Since then I’ve been edgy and snappy. It seemed so real. Medlen had a bad game obviously, and somewhere I visioned Gearrin had given up a few runs after our comeback and I remember the blog was so mad at him for that.
