Puma, I disagree. Rosenthal does not punish the AL Central. They still go to a playoff game, but do not get a bye. The six teams I mentioned above are worthier than the Tigers or Chi-Sox. They still go in, but they gotta go the hard route – one game, win or done. Very fair. Unfair would be if they do not go at all.
Be reasonable, dude!
September 30th, 20126:59 pm
Pathetic, Two games, Chippers last regular season games and only 8 pages of comments. Take away the football comments and there would be even less.
I assume this is what Mr. O’brien wants. When you ban/warn people and others leave because of this it hurts the blogs appeal.
You really have things arse-backwards, Lanie.
Here’s an idea: Start your own blog – or get ACE and Jorge_Jorge to join you in a chat room. They seem your speed.
September 30th, 20127:06 pm
Even as a long shot, it’s still fun heading into the final series with the division championship still in the balance.
I’d put the smart money on WAS closing it out at home tomorrow.
When they celebrate the division title, I wonder if anyone asks if that means they don’t think they can still win the Word Series?
September 30th, 20127:09 pm
UKUGA: The gNats committed suicide when they shelved Strasburg. Their mojo is in the toilet.
September 30th, 20127:13 pm
dougglanville Doug Glanville
You have to give the @Braves manager, Fredi Gonzalez credit. Tough way to go out last year then he comes back even better. Not easy to do.
September 30th, 20127:19 pm
but but but, we just have to hate on Fredi Gonzales. He’s terrible, I don’t care about anything that shows otherwise.
September 30th, 20127:21 pm
On second look, Phils may take tomorrow’s game against Wang. Then, Gio wraps up the Cy Young with a snappy performance on Tuesday.
September 30th, 20127:26 pm
I say gNats lose tomorrow, then Gio chokes on it Tuesday. Wednesday, the collapse is complete!
September 30th, 20127:27 pm
Thursday – with the Braves beating the gNats – is just a formality.
September 30th, 20127:33 pm
Final Braves gamer is up….
September 30th, 20127:38 pm
grorge_grorge didn’t mention he was at the game -
September 30th, 20127:50 pm
Fredi Gonzalez sucks. The Braves only have 93 wins!
September 30th, 20127:54 pm
Who predicted at the beginning of the season that the braves would have 93 wins with 3 games left? That we would be 3 games back of the division lead with 93 wins and 3 left to play? That the nationals would have 96 wins at this time?
September 30th, 20127:55 pm
Im not a baseball analyst, but, it would be very interesting to see what Braves do with Hanson…..leaving him out of the playoff roster would hurt badly his trade value……wouldnt it?
Im not saying I want him in……. but I can smell our organization giving him the chance. A chance he has not earned.
MiaBch – How is playing a 1 game play in not a punishment for a division winner? And how do you discount the fact that the meaning of division play goes completely down the drain when winning your division really doesn’t mean anything? He is basically saying, top 3 teams by record, regardless of division are in, then #4 & #5 play one game to decide who plays #1. You might as well have no divisions in that scenario, not play more games against teams in your division, and weaken the meaning of all regional rivalries.
September 30th, 20128:01 pm
Doc – I bet he’ll be on postseason roster, but won’t get any starts. I just hope they don’t put him in relief a la Charlie Leibrandt in an extra inning tied game, because I am pretty sure the result would be the same.
September 30th, 20128:02 pm
Remember, most pundits (locally and nationally) had us in 4th to begin the season and it did not seem unreasonable at the time….Disgusted
seemed pretty unreasonable to me at the time
September 30th, 20128:04 pm
I assume this is what Mr. O’brien wants. When you ban/warn people and others leave because of this it hurts the blogs appeal….Lane
what a pile of hot horse dung. Stick it ACE
September 30th, 20128:09 pm
nolieeeeeee polieeeee, glad you’re okay.
September 30th, 20128:11 pm
Glad to have you back, nolie.
September 30th, 20128:12 pm
Relieve corp is too good……….theres no one to leave out ……. too many good arms
September 30th, 20128:15 pm
Hanson in relief? Uhh no. Too many good arms there. I’m “afraid” that even CMart will get on. I’d prefer Gearrin, but…
At this time, I can’t see a way that Tommy gets on the PS roster.
September 30th, 20128:17 pm
Hi Guys, thanks.
ll be a bit surprised if Tommy makes it either, but one never knows
September 30th, 20128:47 pm
Good to have you back nolie
September 30th, 20129:13 pm
According to the BMI, Michael Vick (6′0″ 215 pounds) is just shy of being obese. Does anyone think Michael Vick is borderline obese?
September 30th, 20129:16 pm
Vick is obese in stupid QB play…
McFann :Ô: :Ô: :ô:
September 30th, 20129:19 pm
Whoops! I think I picked a bad time to check in!……
Who starts in place of Hudson on Wednesday? Noway he starts that game.
We can definately sweep the Pirates but can the Phillies sweep the Nationals?
I think we win 2/3 vs Pirates
Phillies win 1 out of 3 vs Nationals.
We will finish with 95 wins. 2 games out.
September 30th, 20129:20 pm
phil prolly does
Yunel's Frosted Tips
September 30th, 20129:54 pm
The girl with the red Braves hat and tank top left with Chipper’s parents………..that wouldn’t be the daughter from Michigan would it? Or maybe his new squeeze?
McLouth in 220 AB’s is hitting .273/.349/.438/.787 with an OPS+113. 10 SB in 11 tries. Why did the Braves play him with a torn stomaxh muscle and then give him away? I really would like to hear the truth on that.
September 30th, 20129:58 pm
Chipper doesn’t have a daughter.
September 30th, 201210:02 pm
We won’t know about playoff rosters and Hanson til after the play-in game. I doubt Hanson or Hudson are on that roster. NLDS roster prolly does not include hanson, but we won’t know it if the roster never gets made.
September 30th, 201210:03 pm
Yunel’s Frosted Tips @ 9:54 pm I think people on Twitter are making the assumption it’s his new gf https://twitter.com/lilgeorgiapeach . No idea if it really is or not, just rumors.
September 30th, 201210:07 pm
Vick is fat, eh?
Lol….you guysbare obsessed withnhis weight.
The babe by chipper’s mom was with the third person he hugged after the game. Pay attention.
September 30th, 201210:12 pm
The babe appeared to be with whoever that guy was that chipper hugged after hugging his parents.
Why stir up stupid crap like this? Give it a rest.
September 30th, 201210:14 pm
Aaron Rogers looks a bit plump too….
CAB, BMI is a terrible measure of anything. It is a pathetic measurement and is no wonder that a messed up govt. would adopt it for any measure of a person’s state of health.
September 30th, 201210:15 pm
Gil Meche has company
The Minnesota Twins released Tsuyoshi Nishioka on Friday, ending their experiment with the Japanese middle infielder after two rough seasons.
The move, which the Twins said came at Nishioka’s request and was supported by the club, wasn’t a surprise. But the way he went out was unique.
Accepting blame for his failure to produce at the plate or play capable defense at shortstop and second base, Nishioka waived his right to his $3 million salary for the 2013 season and a $250,000 buyout.
So they don’t owe him any more money, and Nishioka is now a free agent. With guaranteed contracts, major league teams rarely are able to get off the payroll hook like this for players no longer in their plans. But Nishioka, in a statement released by the Twins, was nothing but graceful.
”I would like to thank the Twins organization for helping me fulfill my dream of playing in Major League Baseball,” Nishioka said. ”I take full responsibility for my performance which was below my own expectations. At this time, I have made the decision that it is time to part ways. I have no regrets and know that only through struggle can a person grow stronger. I appreciate all the support the team and the fans in Minnesota and Rochester have shown me.”
September 30th, 201210:16 pm
BMI is a terrible measure of anything.
what about WAR?
September 30th, 201210:19 pm
he had the kid with the Hooters girl……….thought that was a girl ………..she would be 17 or so now……he has 4 boys in Atlanta from 2 previous marriages……….who knows? she was a cutie…
Music…sweet music. Post of the week…month…YEAR!!… ;)
September 30th, 201210:20 pm
PTBNL – excuses, excuses for being a lard butt…..
September 30th, 201210:24 pm
I agree. It does not take anything into consideration other than weight. It is an extremely poor way to gage obesity.
Good nite weight obsessed folks….lol
Also I think cabravesfan was just kidding…
September 30th, 201210:25 pm
BMI does not measure “lard”. It measures weight only. It does not even take into account a person’s gender. So a big boned, well developed male is set to the same scale as a frail small boned female as long as they are the same height. Very stupid.
If you want to measure “lard” test one’s body composition. Then you can know percentage lean body mass as well as percentage of “lard”.
September 30th, 201210:26 pm
Correct, cab…. weight and height.
September 30th, 201210:27 pm
Yunel’s Frosted Tips-
he had a son with her, who is 14 or 15 now. The woman next to his mom tonight is his current girlfriend.
Yes, I was. Just pointing out how stupid BMI is
September 30th, 201210:29 pm
Ol’ Hoss doin’ O.K. then………he deserves it……
McFann, has someone been giving you a hard time about BMI? I very much dislike that measurement. It is hard for a personal trainer to untrain such thoughts when it is “everywhere”.
Not just big boned- muscle weighs more than fat, so someone like Vick, who is a lot more muscle than fat, will weigh more than someone that is just fat. I doubt ANYONE with eyes would call Vick overweight or out of shape.
September 30th, 201210:31 pm
Chipper actually has 3 boys with his current (soon to be former) wife- he & his first had no kids. He has 4 boys total.
September 30th, 201210:33 pm
Btw, I did realize that cab was joking. I just wanted to say something about BMI. I run into it all the time.
September 30th, 201210:34 pm
Orioles in the playoffs. Good for them.
September 30th, 201210:35 pm
I’m fairly sure that McFann’s comment was not directed at you
I used to be underweight according to BMI… I wasn’t even close. Always been skinny, but not that skinny.
September 30th, 201210:37 pm
You bet they have! Main reason I’ve been so scarce lately—it’s not worth getting worked up over, and unfortunately the only way, at least for the time being, for me to not get worked up is to not even see the posts…:)
Ah well—time to head upstairs! I kinda wish this would have been the last regular season game today so we could start the playoffs sooner!!! So nervous about our offense in the playoffs, but I think I’m ready……buildup is a killer!! Night, all!!
September 30th, 201210:38 pm
Yes, cab. I said “well developed”…. or I meant to if I didn’t. There are many factors that I did not mention. I tried to keep it simple and brief.
I will say that I think it is possible to be too heavy and yet not be fat. For example, I don’t consider massive bodybuilders as being particularly healthy, though they have very, very little body fat. But that is a whole different ballpark.
ive gained about 20 lbs lately up tp sa 34 waist now
to think last year i could still wear my high school size 28″s
i feel like ive aged 30 years for my fiftiest bday
September 30th, 201210:39 pm
Looks like it could be a wet series in Pittsburgh.
September 30th, 201210:40 pm
Yeah, no prob! As cab intimated, I just kinda threw that post out there so other people wouldn’t think she was serious and jump all over her…:)
OK, I’m out now…
September 30th, 201210:41 pm
Good night McFann!
Also, O-linemen are heavy, but not necessarily overweight. (some are, of course, but generally, they are very healthy for their weight)
pirates cardinals reds and rangers
September 30th, 201210:42 pm
So nervous about our offense in the playoffs, but I think I’m ready
Same here… but as long as the pitching is there, I feel good. On the offense, the only guys who really are hot right now are Uggla and Prado… everyone else is kinda sluggish.
September 30th, 201210:44 pm
D-Line: Anyone remember Grady Jackson? That’s called fat. The Rex Ryan of year’s past was fat.Now he’s just heavy.
September 30th, 201210:47 pm
There has definitely been a trend in recent years moving toward trimmer, more athletic D-linemen. There are still some that are heaver than necessary, but they are not nearly as big as they used to be.
September 30th, 201210:48 pm
Dan Wayne Jones @dananderton
Happy for #NateMcLouth tonight. Good dude who’s been to hell & back fighting injuries & to stay in MLB. Helped #Orioles make playoffs.
Yet there is such vitriol for him here still…. Why did the Braves let him play hurt again?
well its about that time for me
lets go get that solid 5 hours sleep
any of you braniacs heard of royal rifes frequency synthesizer microcurrent machine
fsm?probably just another hoax, but its supposed to resonate cell growth through frequencies
what desperate souls grab for when faced with the inevitable
September 30th, 201210:51 pm
when Jason bulked up 20 or so pounds last season it hindered his swing and his defensive play . he is much more athletic now since he lost it
September 30th, 201210:52 pm
I am sorry. I guess I jumped into a conversation without realizing it. I am sorry that BMI has been hurtful to someone on the blog.
cab, health cannot be measured by something as stupid as BMI.
I now am unable to work because I care for aging parents, both of whom have alzheimers. Yet in the 8 yrs that I have cared for them, they have not even had a cold. They now eat healthily and exercise regularly. I don’t know what their BMI is, but their Drs. are very impressed with what has happened to them these years.
September 30th, 201210:53 pm
I don’t think they knew about the hernia
September 30th, 201210:55 pm
Good night, McFann. Good to see you again.
Hey, Nolie. That is very true about Heyward… and others.
September 30th, 201210:57 pm
there is absolutely no need for you to apologize for anything! Good to have a pleasant conversation with you
September 30th, 201211:00 pm
it has changed some, but back in my day baseball players were strongly discouraged against using weight training. It is thought of now as beneficial if done carefully but getting bulky can cause problems
September 30th, 201211:02 pm
Anyways, I gotta call it a bight- computer battery nearly dead and dinner nearly ready. Good night all!
September 30th, 201211:05 pm
Jeff since you made that statement not even one page of comments.
Nolie I think we covered this while you were away, ace has gone over to Bradley’s blog so you can catch him there
Earlier….as posted herein, seems as though some people or is it in fact one–that is counting posts and determining a low comment count is attributed to DOB or someone employed @ajc rendering an inordinate amount of warnings and/or banishments?
Someone feels like they’ve been ‘done wrong?’ Oh my, and I thought I was reading some weird news earlier this past week! Get a grip….whoever….and please see the logic behind the governance.
Furthermore, give me one sane reason why folks have to listen to the rubbish that would deserve such reprimanding action? It is quite simple…if one chooses to use extreme language that requires warning….then they have effectively banned themselves. I doubt there is a DOB Police Unit operating and, additionally, if you require monitoring regularly—you would be best served to take your vile game elsewhere, IMO.
September 30th, 201211:06 pm
Good night, cab. and good bight, too.
Yep, nolie. We did not weight train either. It would have been nice to know then what I know now.
September 30th, 201211:12 pm
well the thing is Lane that you showed up right at the time ACE got blasted (not banned) by DOB, and at least several times a day you pour out a buncha crap about DOB banning folks (totally untrue, only PL is banned) We have lost dozens of good posters because of folks like ACE and the other totally negative ranters, I still think you are ACE, but you are obviously using a new name for some reason because you talk about things that occurred B4 your moniker appeared.
no big deal, I just get tired of reading your misrepresentations of what has happened. The very few like ACE who left are never gonna be missed by most here, and whether it is you or not I am sure he will be back under another name, he was too fixated on DOB not to be
September 30th, 201211:13 pm
September 30th, 201211:14 pm
I am actually getting butterflies in my stomach thinking about Friday’s game. I still can’t wrap my mind around it that everything is over if we happen to lose one fu***** game. How are more not bent up over this?
September 30th, 201211:15 pm
que sera, sera Brian
September 30th, 201211:21 pm
We are fortunately still in it–just enjoy!
September 30th, 201211:22 pm
exactly Capt, just enjoy
nolie, whatever will be, will be. I don’t know what you’re saying, but that’s what I think.
September 30th, 201211:24 pm
its all in the timing Brian, last season we’d have been thrilled to have that one game play-in. This year, not so much
September 30th, 201211:25 pm
I honestly have a bad feeling about this game. STL will be coming in with less pressure and, like CJ said, with more experience from last years run. I don’t like this at all and have a feeling this time next week we’ll be readin a lot of fairwell stuff on Chipper.
Prove me wrong. PLEEEEASE!
I’m saying what will happen, will happen and getting all nervous over it b4hand accomplishes nothing but making you feel bad.
September 30th, 201211:28 pm
He tried to miss it…twice as much time for Eli as Matty had…
Glad to see McNate have an impact for the Orioles, I got totally tired of seeing him ripped all day every day here
September 30th, 201211:29 pm
If Eli doesn’t lead his team to a win, that means he isn’t as good as Matt.
CTB – if you don’t eat and don’t sleep for 4 days everything will be okay…
Chipper said, “We can play with anyone.” And Brian, that means a ‘one gamer’ vs. any MLB team….just believe ole Hoss….heck, Uggs may get a couple dingers…we just don’t know?:)
September 30th, 201211:31 pm
nolie, I know. I was being a silly smart ass. I had to google your line to figure out the meaning. I’d be a dummy without the internet.
You’re right on the nervous thing, but I swear I had this weird dream a few days ago that we lost 12-8 in that game. Since then I’ve been edgy and snappy. It seemed so real. Medlen had a bad game obviously, and somewhere I visioned Gearrin had given up a few runs after our comeback and I remember the blog was so mad at him for that.
Thank you, Cromartie…
September 30th, 201211:32 pm
Flag keeps Eli chucking
September 30th, 201211:33 pm
most of the Cards’ fans are just as nervous about it as we are ol’ buddy
September 30th, 201211:34 pm
Venice, If I did that I’d be talking like Tomahawkin on here with worse vocab. We don’t need that.
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
