I’m betting that it will be more than a year before Chipper becomes a Coach. Chipper’s got four kids and lots of Little League games to go to.

Not likely, but I’ll still pull for it. They’ve got 1 game against the still not clinched Cards and 3 against the Phillies who’ve been great the 2nd half (although will be without Howard)

Traffic has to be a nightmare in the Metro Atlanta area right now 51,000 going to Turner Field and 60,000+ headed to the Georgia Dome for the Falcons, only minutes from each other and both games start within 30 minutes of each other.

And folks, Gilmartin WILL be the next Minor. Given the prospect for the healthy return of Beachy late next year, a package of Hanson and a couple of other arms that are not Delgado, Teheran, or Gilmartin, should entice the pitching-neady Twins to let go of Willingham for next year.

Or go hard after Cody Ross. I’d rather have Ross in LF, Prado at 3B, and Costanza in CF than waste tons of money on Bourn. The Red Sox will not re-sign Ross.

Most of you will remember this, but it’s still funny. From Jon Sciambi, February 23, 2010…

I went on to ask why he’d swing at so many first pitches when the numbers suggest it’s not a great play. Chipper explained that the first pitch is often the only time he’ll get a “heater” the entire at-bat. “OK,” I say, “but clearly, mathematically, factually, you’re not getting a ton of strikes.” We go round and round for a bit without concession on either side and eventually I go upstairs to broadcast the game.

Fast forward to the top of the first. San Diego’s Tim Stauffer on the mound. Chipper digs in and takes a 91-mph fastball right down the middle. He steps out of the box, finds our broadcast booth with those great eyes and, well, here’s what follows:

The photo is priceless..

For as bad as his season has been Uggla still ranks third in the majors in two-out RBIs with 44, trailing only Miguel Cabrera (47) and Andre Ethier (45). And Freeman is sixth in the majors with 42. So two out of the top six are Braves, only team with two that high. Which makes the Braves’ majors-worst RISP average all the more strange.

Amen to this blog’s title. Do not go cruise control. Go hard and play good baseball going to the post season. After last year I would have worried that the Braves would have been happy just making the playoffs, but with this being Chipper’s last year, that is ample motivation for the desire to win it all

MiaBchBravesFan

With patient at-bats leading to many walks and an early/mid-season surge in OBP, the Bravos had tons of people in scoring position throughout the season. The lack of a legit lynchpin power bat made every player in this lineup think they had to do The Job. As I have said many times before, Heyward and Freeman are not ready to carry a team just yet; as for Uggla on down, there is not one player on this team that is a legit MVP-caliber run-producer. A sad fact that hopefully will be overwritten by stellar pitching, possibly the best in either league.

Looking at the second WC, I’m kind of hoping that Dodgers come back to force a 1-game playoff in LA. Cards have three left against the Reds. Dodgers have three left against the Giants.

I wouldn’t completely rule out the chance that Cards go 0-4 to end the season and leave the Brewers with a tiny window to get into a tie.
