I think epically badly would be giving up 5 in the 1st. He’s hanging in.
Since the pitchers against the Mets will be Hudson, Minor, and Medlen (not a bad threesome), I guess that means it will be Maholm, Hanson, and Hudson to finish the regular season.

Typical 5 inning effort from Tommy “Derrick Lowe” Hanson. The burning question is do you put Tommy on the post season roster?

If those are the options (and I have no reason to think otherwise), I take Franisco & Constanza right now, given Bourn’s thumb issue, but if he proves 100%, I take Hinske and his experience over Constanza (and his ability to play more than one position)

Bourn’s thumb is a huge issue – it’s his top hand – he can still run, play D, but batting will be an issue. It’s a sprain and I’m going to be surprised to see him play before Monday – Constanza will get a chance to show what he can do. I’d prefer him just because of his speed on the bases.
I think Francisco would be my choice – IF he’s been working in the cage on that exaggerated twist prior to his swing. Think he just needs a chance to play – he’s never (even in the minors) had a chance to bat against leftys.

AND – the 5 Oct game, the play-in, is a series – FG can set his roster anyway he wants to. Why do you need more than one SP? Take the entire BP and the bench. You’re not going to use Huddy, Minor, etc….unless you plan to have Hanson pitch an inning of relief????

BAS – If the Braves don’t win on the fifth – there is no after. And no disrespect intended, but why would you have more than one SP? Those guys usually need 45 minutes or more to get ready to pitch. BP guys – about 10?
Win on the 5th and the team resets the roster for the next series – THEN you add the SP’s and drop so BP guys.

“why would you have more than one SP?”
Because the roster is huge, and I want to be prepared. What if Meds twists an ankle in the bullpen (knock on wood)? What if we 18 inning/Houston it again? I’d rather have a Tim Hudson, or a Mike Minor, ready to throw, that the eighth (or whatever) BP guy.
If we’re taking ten pitchers, I want the best ten.
