I (partially anyways ) did not mean that as 100% directed at you but it IS a great quote (and the way I live, pretty much). And I do understand not wanting to get over excited about the playoffs, but I also believe that not celebrating this team because you are still bitter about last season is pointless and a bit…sad. What’s done is done. This is not last year’s team. (Disclaimer: I do actually like you and find most of your comments interesting or relevant or at the very least entertaining. I just wish you could let yourself enjoy this year )

“I just hope we win the wild card game”

Division winners don’t play in the wild card game.

“I just hope we … make it to a Game 5 in the first round.”

How’s that going to happen when the Braves sweep the first round?

I thank you for the kind words on your 10:15 post.

Now, if they do beat STL in the WC game that will make me very very happy. This is a very entertaining team. Very much so.

On a more important note is to hope and pray (for those who do believe) for the well being of Dusty Baker. Now, that is a real personal baseball issue, more serious than a fan (like me) mooning about some disappointment from last yr that is history that nothing can be done about.

I wish the best for Dusty Baker (word was he had a minor stroke). That is serious stuff.

From Adam Kilgore:

The Nationals moved no closer to clinching the National League East, their magic number saying at five as the Atlanta Braves beat the Miami Marlins with a walk-off home run.

The Nationals came into Philadelphia with a chance to clinch here. “As an ex-Phillie, I’d like nothing more than that,” Manager Davey Johnson said. Now, though, the potential payback for the Phillies clinching three of their five division titles with victories over the Nationals is impossible.

I gotta give credit where it’s due. A month ago I thought this had he making of Choke 2.0. I thought Fredi would find a way to mess it up.

He did the right things or has done the right things in September. He’s managed to learn from his bullpen overuse last year, and Kimbrel and O’Flaherty are healthy, fresh and rolling heading into October.

Fredi is still not the guy I would have chosen for the job. But since they made the dance, he deserves one more year and maybe he’ll be a guy that grows on me or doesn’t irritate me so much.

And what can you say about Medlen? Team just wins when he pitches. It’s that simple. It SUCKS if they get stuck in this wildcard playin game (still an outside shot in hell at the division – ask the Cards last year abou the wildcard….) But I’m not counting on it.

But man would it be nice to have Medlen pitch in 2 games of a 5 game series and possibly 3 times in a 7 game series, huh? But this just could be the year with the stupid ass rule that the “away” team starts at home…..

who knows? They’re “in” now. That is all that matters. Let the crap shoot begin……. Stranger things have happened.

We got to see Chipper his entire career here because that is how he wanted it. All of our other heroes through the years (Aaron, Murphy, Niekro, Glavine, Smoltz) got traded and we didn’t get to see them go out on their own like Chipper. In my mind, Chipper has given this franchise as much as he took from them, and that’s a rare thing.
