Especially if they’ve heard my bass playing.
September 25th, 20125:40 pm
Did you ever play ball?
Obviously I just played Strat-O-Matic in my parents’ basement, right?
And everyone clearly know that you must have played 500 games at the major league level to understand the basics of baseball, like getting on base, gaining bases and things of that sort. Concepts like the game being about getting on base and gaining bases and measuring on-base percentage and total bases are just way too difficult for anyone who hasn’t played in the majors to understand, correct? Because those who have played 500 games in the majors clearly understand that the game is not fundamentally about those things. It’s actually more about hits in non-sac, non-walk plate appearances and how many runs come in during your plate appearances more so than it’s about outs and bases.

The Braves should miss R.A. DICKEY when the Mets come in this weekend. He’s schedule to pitch against the Pirates on Thursday. Don’t have to worry about BUEHRLE against the Marlins this week… Is JOSH JOHNSON the best pitcher the Braves have to face these last 9 regular season games?
September 25th, 20125:42 pm
Just asking a question….
No need to be an *ss hat about it….
Besides, what you do in your parents basement is your business….nor do I EVER need to hear about it….
I’m already sad….even with the best BEST case scenario, there are only about 5 weeks left of baseball….and then it’s on to watching the replacement refs….
Mets have announced Niese, Young, and Mejia to pitch the weekend series.
September 25th, 20125:45 pm
Also, I think the Braves may see AJ Burnett in PIT unless he just doesn’t care to pitch or they shut him down once theyre out of it…..
September 25th, 20125:49 pm
Murph writes “Shaun, did you seriously just go back to a blog from 3 years ago to find a post, by you, about Frenchy?” Murph, here’s something even crazier…I still have the Brooks Conrad blog conversation when we won in the bottom of the 9th…and I will read it sometimes…..oh, what the heck, you might as well all see it…. — http://blogs.ajc.com/atlanta-braves-blog/2010/05/20/leake-vs-hanson-in-business-fans-special/?cp=9
great comments in here from all of you…..its pretty funny to read….this thread picks up at the top of the 9th…bases loaded.

I’m counting forward, and it looks like the Braves *might* see LOCKE (LHP, 0-2, 5.47), CORREIA (RHP 11-10, 4.11) and then somebody else in PIT those last three. Hard to be sure, I know, but that’s how the rotation could work out if things stay as they are.
Just saying: Good opportunity to put up a very strong 9-game run, here. Sure would be kinda sweet in the Phillies did us some favors.
September 25th, 20125:54 pm
NO celebration after a win tonight! Beat the Cards on 10/5 for the play in game, and then spray the champagne. If the legendary Bobby Cox was managing this year, we would have caught the Nats! MERCY

SMOLTZ 29, was that a Hawk Harrelson reference at the end of your post just now?

Anyone know if any national coverage for the Chipper festivities or will it only be on sports south? In Vegas and would love to watch.

I don’t understand wanting to celebrate a Braves win tonight in any special way… it just clinches the play-in game. Wait until you win that, then celebrate. Act like you’ve been there.

To those asking, show will not be posted to website but we launch a Chipper Tribute page @ 7PM w/ most of content featured in show #FSBraves

It should be Bama, but this is Atlanta. We can’t even sellout a post season game.
September 25th, 20126:14 pm
I can only imagine what’s going through Chipper’s mind right now. Heck, I’VE got butterflies thinking about this being his last homestand ever!
BTW, the formula for calculating magic #’s —>
Magic # = (# games left) – (# games ahead) + 1
If # games ahead = xx.5 then it’s (#games left) – (# games ahead) + 1.5
September 25th, 20126:16 pm
southern hope, thanks for posting that link. Pretty fun read.
I especially liked N8 lobbying for Conrad over Chipper.
You didn’t think a GREAT win would make me stop, did you?
Brooks Conrad: 3 HR, 9 RBI in 28 AB.
Chipper Jones: 2 HR, 11 RBI in 110 AB.
I’d say “do the math”, but I’ll get yelled at again for already doing it.

Correction: You don’t clinch a playoff berth by getting a spot in the play-in game. you clinch a playoff berth by WINNING the play-in game. This one-game playoff is merely a scheme to allow one more general manager to crow about “making the playoffs”.
September 25th, 20126:23 pm
I’m getting a bit emotional watching Braves live right now. Gah, I can’t imagine, I’m going to be blubbering like a baby when I’m at the game on Sunday. Good write up there, young lady!
Let’s clinch tonight and get the old man back to October and make some noise! GO BRAVES!
September 25th, 20126:27 pm
I think that Tommy Hanson’s real future lies in becoming an assistant pitching coach. He can assist a real pitching coach in demonstrating the pitching mechanics that don’t work to young pitchers. Please keep him out of the playoff rotation Frank, I’m not sure that Fredi will.

Doesn’t the Ted have a larger seating capacity than most other MLB stadiums? Not making excuses, mind you, but that could be why it’s hard to fill up. I don’t live in the ATL, so I’m sure those who do would be able to offer more insight.
September 25th, 20126:33 pm
Wish I could be there. There won’t be a lot of dry eyes Sunday.

Stadium in a terrible neighborhood…
September 25th, 20126:37 pm
While it may be cruel, Vince’s comment at 6:30 did make me chuckle…
P-Town I don’t know exactly what Jack Wilson would be doing, but I’d bet that it has something to do with helping young SS. Kinda like a mentor, I guess.

Don’t feel like sifting through the commentary… Has a lineup been posted?
September 25th, 20126:53 pm
Stadium location and the lack of proper public transport (Marta, seriously?) are the 2 main issues.
September 25th, 20126:57 pm
Here ya go!
Kevin McAlpin @KevinMcAlpin
#Braves lineup (vs MIA/Eovaldi): Johnson 8, Prado 7, Heyward 9, Jones 5, Freeman 3, Uggla 4, McCann 2, Simmons 6, Medlen 1

We can’t even sellout a post season game.
Just goes to show you Atlanta is mostly made up of sophisticated baseball fans. They know that Atlanta is most likely, at best, the second best team in the NL, and the playoffs are not to be taken seriously, because, you know, run differential and all.
September 25th, 20127:02 pm
Quick question… how any years would you say Chipper has been with Atlanta .. 20 right? 1993 to 2012 I have seen some people say 19yrs…
September 25th, 20127:05 pm
should be 20… 2012-1993= 19, then you add 1. Simple counting.
September 25th, 20127:06 pm
September 25th, 2012
19 seasons in the majors I guess.
chipper had debut in 93 with OPS 1.750 and it was all downhill from there
September 25th, 20127:07 pm
He didn’t play in ‘94.
September 25th, 20127:08 pm
Ah, he was injured then… guess they don’t count that
September 25th, 20127:09 pm
So 19 ’season’ since he didn’t play in ‘94 but wouldn’t that still be 20 yrs with the organization?
1993 to 2012 is 20yrs not 19…hmm
September 25th, 20127:10 pm
Wow! Chipper in ‘91….
September 25th, 20127:11 pm
“There’s a wild card to be clinched,” says Mark Bradley.
Gosh, I thought we were supposed to win the division last week.
Talk about a guy utterly bereft of integrity.
If you’re counting organization, you’d have to go to ‘90, right?
Notice they’re not showing the stands.
Guessing not a lot of people there.
September 25th, 20127:13 pm
Thank you, Carroll.
he was a sep call-up in 93, missed 94 but got paid 109,000 which looks like ML salary. so it should be 20 years.
September 25th, 20127:14 pm
Well if you get paid I’d say you’re with the team lol, thanks cricket!
September 25th, 20127:16 pm
Great catch J-Hey.
I think you make a good point. I just found what cricket did, too. Big league cash, big league DL, I think that means he was a big leaguer.
shoulda caught that
September 25th, 20127:18 pm
Medlen looks pretty solid in the early going.
Carroll your thoughts on the number of years Chipper has been with the Braves organization.. it would be 20yrs? The ‘94 year where he didn’t play but got a paycheck that would still count as being a Brave right?
September 25th, 20127:19 pm
A lineup today except Bourn
bad angle by JHey, seemed to be coming in a bit, but it didn’t hurt. Would be nice to see us hit this kid early
September 25th, 20127:20 pm
Seems like people have been saying 20 to me. I know I have read that many times this year.
September 25th, 20127:21 pm
Good evening, fellow Braves fans. Missed y’all lately.
September 25th, 20127:22 pm
We will be lucky to get a hit tonight. This dude is throwing gas
September 25th, 20127:23 pm
Hi, there, Bat!
September 25th, 20127:24 pm
Love this time of the year, playoff baseball!! Go Braves!!
I want to see more patience from Heyward in 2013. Making outs on a low and away first pitch fails to constitute a quality at bat.
September 25th, 20127:25 pm
Yeah, thanks T-Dawg
September 25th, 20127:27 pm
September 25th, 20127:28 pm
I’m sure we’re poised to respond with the bats.
Well, crap. Let the rookie hit one out. That’s enough of that, Medlen.
September 25th, 20127:29 pm
Hope all this talk hasn’t jinxed Medlen.
Just what the Braves don’t need to know…that Superman (Medlen) can also be Clark Kent (regular guy).
September 25th, 20127:33 pm
Nice walk. Now lets go Freddie and take that run and one more back!
September 25th, 20127:35 pm
RISP chance here, with Danny at the plate. A HR would be nice.
Be a really good time for Uggla to kill his old team.
September 25th, 20127:36 pm
First guy: all these numbers Medlen has been putting up, I mean they’re all historic
Second banana: and impressive
come on dan
The Braves need to score here.
Well done, Dan!!!
September 25th, 20127:37 pm
he went thru the stop sign! and had to go back and re-tag
Hey, VJ, guess you know I’m coming out there week after next, right?
September 25th, 20127:38 pm
Medlen with a preview of october 5th…..sigh.
Nice job, dan.
old man chipper forgetting the outs the other night, now forgetting to touch home?
September 25th, 20127:39 pm
great to see Uggla turning it around at the end of the year. It is not too little too late if he can get hot now
September 25th, 20127:40 pm
Lots of empty seats…..lol
September 25th, 20127:42 pm
He actually remembered even though I forgot (Did he pop up? I’m just scanning at the moment and didn’t see him…)
Has anyone thought Hanson’s shoulder problems might be related to the changes in his delivery? I’m no fan of Hansons, but I don’t think we or anyone else knows what Hanson could do with a motion that doesn’t have that horrible hitch right in the middle of it. Couple the lessening of stolen bases and he be a three.
I think his future lies in whether or not he’ll put in the work to develop a conventional delivery.
September 25th, 20127:43 pm
“Lots of empty seats…..lol”-phil
Did anyone thing something over than that would have happened?
