David Ross on Hudson having a big game after some recent inconsistency:

“You know, Huddy’s that guy that when the lights are shining brightest, he brings his ‘A’ game. I like my chances with him on the mound against anybody anytime. I know he’s going to go out there and give me everything he has that day, and he’s going to fight and claw tooth and nail to try to win, to try to get their hitters out. I can go to battle with teammates like that any day of the week.”

bad news in the Phillies vs Nationals series is that the way the rotation is lined up the Nationals will see the big three only twice out of the six games. That being Hamels in game 1 of the series on Tuesday and then Halladay in the last game of the season. They miss out Lee. Will the Phillies change their rotation ? They have an offday tomorrow and can move Lee up.
Cloyd will be pitching 2 games as it stands vs Nationals.

Our chances would been much better had the big 3 pitched three or four games vs the Nationals, also you have Cardinals playing 3 vs them as well.
I think good chance that Nationals would have gone 4-5 if the above was true.

Assuming the games remain relevant, I think we can go 7-2 down the stretch (8-1 is not out of question).

We keep the pressure on WAS for as long as possible.

Our magic # to clinch home field against St. Louis is 4.

Our magic # to clinch division is 15.

The games WAS plays @ STL could really be critical to keeping the pressure on.

UKUGA

The Reds being tied for NL lead is pretty irrelevant at this point. Assuming ATL/STL play in the WC game, then it comes down to who wins that game determining who plays the WC and who plays the NL West winner.

Reds can’t play STL in RD 1 and WAS can’t play Braves. (Unless they have changed that rule for this peculiar year)

And, either team will have to travel to the WC winner for first 2 games.

New WC rules are …
Play-in game between 2 WCs
#1 seed plays 2 games at WC winner followed by 3 games at home in the NLDS
No intra-divisional restrictions on NLDS

I don’t know the rules about the #2/#3 NLDS game (2 away, 3 home or 2home 2 away 1 home)

The Nationals won too many games that should have been lost. They seemed to be running on pure luck. Luck runs out at some point. They are a very good team and their pitching is on point and the offense.
But, it just seemed that they had luck and timing on some of the wins.

The Nats have 10 games left. All against teams with winning records and four games against teams ’still in the hunt’ for the Play-in Game.
MIL – Mon
PHI – for 3
STL – for 3 and finish with
PHI for 3

The division isn’t sewn up for the Nats – and with luck, the last 3 against PHI will still mean something to the Braves. Of course, that is only if the Braves DON’T LOSE :)
