Horst sure looked good
The Braves offense will probably go dormant the remainder of the game when they need to continue putting the pressure on the Phillies. This game is still young.
September 22nd, 20125:04 pm
Didn’t say there’s a Phillies bias on Fox, just that Karros made himself look like a fool over-analyzing. Last year, on everybody’s favorite unbiased sports channel, Bobby V. spent five minutes expounding on Heyward’s swing. He actually said it wouldn’t work in the major leagues. I’m just saying that some of these “experts” turn out not to be very smart when they’re trying to sound smart.
Put a nail in the Phils coffin…. yes, dig it out, nail it up, and bury it again. Put it deeper this time though.
Magic number at 4 eh? We should clinch by Tuesday…
September 22nd, 20125:06 pm
see PP y’all should of started Horst not doc millionaire
Kevin Frandsen has performed well against the Braves this season.
September 22nd, 20125:07 pm
you can’t get any closer to dead center of the zone than that one Mike
September 22nd, 20125:08 pm
Jobu must have spoken to the bats…
September 22nd, 20125:09 pm
You would think that when your offense gives you 7, you’d pitch a shutout…. Minor’s such a bum
There goes the shutout
September 22nd, 20125:11 pm
Good play by Prado. He looks like a great SS. Lots of range
Bobby V is and always has been an idiot, can’t believe he suckered Boston into hiring him.
September 22nd, 20125:15 pm
Bobby V is not an idiot, very high IQ and knows baseball very well.
He just can’t get over that and drags it around offending others
September 22nd, 20125:19 pm
You got to be kidding me Sneaky Pete, high IQ, where did you get that? Did he take a test? He always says stupid crap, harps on it for like a half hour…just look at how he turned Red Sox into a circus. Wasn’t any better in his days with the Mets.
September 22nd, 20125:21 pm
Yeah actually he took a test, when he was youngjust many do.
His knowledge of baseball is well respected in baseball circles.
His personality has always been his problem, Puma
September 22nd, 20125:23 pm
September 22nd, 20125:27 pm
Puma definatley has it over Bobby V on baseball knowledge Puma probabally gets in the HOF on the first ballot just like Chipper
September 22nd, 20125:28 pm
That was hit hard….
The Braves are slowly leaking runs from their big lead.
September 22nd, 20125:29 pm
That was Howard’s 300th career homer, 42 of which have come against the Braves
Still got a 5-run lead. And you figure with Howard up there, it’s likely to happen.
Were they booing there?
September 22nd, 20125:30 pm
Bobby V. “turned” the Red Sox into a circus? What were they before? Wrong guy for the job, but the team was a mess before he got there.
Brian from SC
September 22nd, 20125:31 pm
You know one of the most relieving days of the season? The day you play your last game at Citizens Bank Park. It’s exhausting.
Mark Bowman @mlbbowman
That was Howard’s 300th career HR. DOB says 42 have come against the Braves. I was thinking more like 299
September 22nd, 20125:32 pm
Goodness gracious. 42 home runs against one team is a ton.
September 22nd, 20125:34 pm
Any chance we see Delgado and Teheran with a start between now and the end of the season? Like maybe giving Hanson the rest of the year off?
And what’s the story on Ben Sheets? I’d love to see all 3 of those guys get a start.
i did not realize there were so many Bobby V supporters on here. So chiponroad I can’t criticize someone for saying stupid crap on the air? I never said I knew more about baseball, I am just saying he is a clown and has always said dumb things on the air, and then harps on the forever. Just like Tim McCarver always states the most obvious crap when he is an announcer, not saying I know more about baseball than him.
September 22nd, 20125:35 pm
Phillies have 8 hits in this series and only one was a single.
September 22nd, 20125:36 pm
Would have been nice to see Uggla hit one that would make Howard’s look puny.
September 22nd, 20125:37 pm
Come to think of it, with Teheran, Delgado and Sheets on the roster, why is Bautista still with the team?
September 22nd, 20125:40 pm
Just yanking your chain man I hate Boobby V and living in greater B oston see way to much of him
It is not a bad idea to plan a game (Hanson’s next turn) where Teheran, Delgado, and Sheets are all scheduled to pitch……each a maximum of 3 innings
September 22nd, 20125:41 pm
I can’t see how the Red Sox bring back Bobby V next year
September 22nd, 20125:42 pm
Shut down inning here would be great.
September 22nd, 20125:46 pm
Fox announcers are usually not very good, they should just pick up the audio feed from the home teams.
September 22nd, 20125:50 pm
Break out the lederhosen it’s German culture day at the ballpark
Getting me all riled up chiponroad! I was ready to “punch someone right in the mouth”
September 22nd, 20125:51 pm
Looked up Teheran’s stats at three sites. Looks like he was 7-9 with an ERA over 5. I don’t think the Braves are desperate enough for pitching to risk him at this point. I see Medlen, Hudson, and Minor–in some order–with Maholm the 1st man out of the bullpen if one of the 1st three gets blown up early.
September 22nd, 20125:53 pm
Good call Cracker
September 22nd, 20125:55 pm
well we now know when the wheels will fall off medlens streak now.
I think Braves will go with 4 man rotation, unless they are in a do-or-die game situation. Maholm hasn’t been that bad, but definitely needs to turn it around. Just please no Tommy.
September 22nd, 20125:56 pm
Without a shot at catching the Nationals, and with a comfortable lead for the first wild card slot, now would be the perfect time to give Teheran, Delgado and Sheets a start. Do we really think they could do much worse than Hanson has been?
September 22nd, 20125:57 pm
Pardon me Puma,if you have to hit someone might I suggest the ole ball coach SS watchin the sec feel bad for Missouri after the whuppin my dawgs gave em gamecocks are pililn on
September 22nd, 20125:58 pm
come on c j
A grand slam for Chipper would be awesome
September 22nd, 20126:00 pm
Could have used another run in that situation.
Oh. Runs woulda been nice. No lead is safe in this park.
September 22nd, 20126:10 pm
Nice outing by Minor
September 22nd, 20126:11 pm
I’m not against it, but every time you give a chance to somebody who is not in the rotation, then somebody who is has to sit down. Delgado and Sheets, maybe. Teheran, I doubt. I’d say Maholm deserves a chance to nail down the #4 spot before giving somebody else a shot. But we’re not earning bucks to make such calls.
September 22nd, 20126:12 pm
Do you let Minor go another inning – 91 pitches so far? I say no
I would definitely like to see Freddie Freeman reach 100 RBI. He is within reach if he can put together some better at bats over the next few games.
September 22nd, 20126:14 pm
Nevermind, looks like Minor is done.
September 22nd, 20126:15 pm
Depends on how rested the pen is, on who out there needs work. Leo was the best pitching coach I ever saw, and he’d say let Minor pitch.
September 22nd, 20126:22 pm
I’m not talking about auditioning those guys (except for maybe Sheets) for slots in the rotation at this point in the season, I’m talking about getting them a start here or there to rest up our big 3 plus Maholm. There is no illusion that Teheran or Delgado will get more than 1 start this year.
September 22nd, 20126:23 pm
Overbay and all the other Braves primary pinch hitters are nearly worthless.
September 22nd, 20126:27 pm
There better be no funny business from Durbin right now, but he is off to a poor start.
September 22nd, 20126:30 pm
I should feel comfortable with a 5 run lead but I just don’t.
We Will Get Fooled Again
I don’t care how solid his numbers are, Durbin still scares me.
Durbin is creating a nice mess for himself.
Minor allowed 2 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk with 6 strikeouts in 6 innings (91 pitches/59 strikes)
September 22nd, 20126:31 pm
Not missing by much….but missing.
No Durbin in post-season.
He’s not reliable. He’s too much homer-prone.
Chipper's Southern Bell
September 22nd, 20126:33 pm
Blog page stuck on page 2 @5:00. Is there problems??
September 22nd, 20126:34 pm
Real good game for MIke Minor and I hope that Gas Can Durbin or the rest of the pen does not let him down.
Minor deserves this tenth W and to even his record at .500. He has worked hard for this.
Durbin was so-so and with Venterbumb, anything can happen. All we need is one out from him.
He better come through or else…….
have yourself a season series braves. caused fire sale. check. ended philies sellout streak. check. ended phillies season. STRIKE BLEEEPN 3!
Kevin McAlpin @KevinMcAlpin
Jayson Stark told me the #Braves are “capable of winning it all.” Hear the entire convo, Wed at 2:30 on 680 The Fan’s Clubhouse Report
That five run lead is uncomfortable. I wish the Braves could have added a run here or there throughout the game. Hopefully the good Venters will be making an appearance.
September 22nd, 20126:35 pm
Overbay has not given us the spark from the bench we needed.
I would rather have Constanza on the post season roster than Overbay who is going to have a hard time finding a job this off season.
He might have to take a mnor league contract.
I wonder if we will see the obligatory Jonny Venters wild pitch in a key spot here.
I am not going to make any more Comments about Tom after this, he is gone and will be missed. I think it is sad that David O’brien could not even respond to his comment. Tom being a vet should be enough for that.
I have seen Mr. Obrien cite many times his busy schedule. I have no doubt that this is true. That is why I can’t begin to understand why he would concern himself with random bloggers with a differing opinion. It’s much like the TV channel, go on to something else if you don’t like it. Let George, Ace etc. have their say. To threaten someone with banishment is really childish behavior.
I would be the first to agree with you if these bloggers where using vile language etc. They are not just an opinion and that’s all it is . If it’s an opinion of your work schedule so what? You know the many hours you put in.
Some people like Chris Rock some not. If I don’t like someones comment I go onto the next but we need all these different views to keep things interesting.
September 22nd, 20126:36 pm
Medlen last pitched on the 19th and, as I understand it, will pitch next on the 23rd. When did Maholm pitch last? He pitches on the 22nd with the current plan. If anybody gets short rest, it’s Maholm, and I’m not sure he will. I say dance with the guys that got you here, though maybe Sheets does deserve a look. This is all conjecture, right?
Nope. No more damage. Good work from Venters.
I hope not Tomahawk — as it worked out, he did get the soft fly out — no harm done.
“Blog page stuck on page 2….”
No, no problems.
5 run Braves lead = No whiners.
September 22nd, 20126:39 pm
Last but not least if ace is gone then it is a shame. I quite enjoyed many of his comments and his music insights into certain situations.
Let’s go Braves.
September 22nd, 20126:40 pm
just beat the cards in the one game.then beat the giants/nats. then lose the ws. unless you play the yankees.
September 22nd, 20126:41 pm
Hopefully this good game from Bourn spurs him toward a more productive remaining two weeks.
5 run Braves lead = No whiners.
Ain’t that the truth! College football Saturday makes it even slower.
September 22nd, 20126:42 pm
Fox crew wants so bad for the Phils to win this one.
September 22nd, 20126:44 pm
Bourn’s leadoff double in 8th makes him 2-for-3 with 2 walks today, good sign for ATL team that neeeds him out of his slump
Brian — With that dysfunctional baseball operation and an ownership who might or might not even be around, anything dumb from them is possible.
That ownership is involved in too many things from Liverpool Soccer and the NASCAR (the NASCAR is not bad, that does make $$$$$$$).
First question — Who will be in charge — Is it Cherington or Lucky Lucchino.
They need a new pitching coach as much as they need a manager — that pitching staff is not that bad. Not great but should not have been this bad.
New manager and new PC and I could see tham being back to .500 as they are now. Bobby V made a clustermess.
Kevin McAlpin @KevinMcAlpin
In 4 September starts, Mike Minor has allowed 3 runs on 10 hits in 24.2 IP (1.12 ERA). #Braves
I’d really consider him game 1 of NLDS, get off on the right start. Huddy ain’t a bad option, but he’s not as hot as Medlen and Minor are. 2 Minor starts in the LDS might be better than 2 by Huddy.
There we go! Nice hitting.
September 22nd, 20126:45 pm
Man, I’m gonna miss Hoss’s pretty stroke.
September 22nd, 20126:46 pm
Just checking in now – been out the whole day. Awesome to see us knock him out in the 2nd inning. Great to see a high scoring offense tonight.
September 22nd, 20126:48 pm
@chipontheroad — But at least you have the Celtics, Pats and if they have a season the Bruins to look at.
And your sports talk heads do not do 12 months a yr of recruitin’. I”d take 98.5 the Hub over our so called sports radio anyday.
Glen Ordway > Chuck Oliver.
September 22nd, 20126:52 pm
Less bloggers makes it slower also. Free ace.
September 22nd, 20126:54 pm
We really need the good Johnny V. for the post season.
When right he is a stud.
I think he will be better next yr.
September 22nd, 20126:56 pm
Give the the braves the birds the hawks and i guess the bruins then but there are some good sports shows uo here they are just covering the wrong teans
Can’t believe GT went to OT. They were up 17. Then they get stuffed on 4th down in OT. GT gave away the VT game and now have given away the Miami game as well
September 22nd, 20126:57 pm
GTs defense is bad, and has been for a while now…
Wonder if Paul Johnson’s seat is getting hot
September 22nd, 20126:58 pm
Venters looked pretty goodl.
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
