Braves fans, serious question here:

If you can afford to go to only one, Chipper’s ceremony or Wild Card game, which do you choose?

not really what i WANT to happen, but what i really expect this offseason, does not include adding pitching. i think wren will go with what he has in the rotation, while trading hanson, and trying to get a really athletic outfield. i think at least one of those outfielders is going to be a fairly big name. also, i think prado and heyward get extensions.

Peter – Wild Card game will be televised and it’s quite probable there will be more playoff games – if not this year, then in the fuiture. Only one time CHipper will be honored before his retirement. I’d go to see it.

DAp – Then what you’re saying is that Hanson actually DOES have a fair amount of value? In which case, they should keep him at the price he’ll command in abr.

Lew: You’re somewhat correct. Hanson had a good April and a good June to propel him to those decent numbers. However his May, July, August, and now September have all been putrid. As for him being hurt last year, that’s another risk.

As with JJ, he’s had 2 consecutive poor 2nd half. Last year he was hurt and only made 5 starts (and had an 8.10 ERA) and this year he’s pitched poorly again in the 2nd half. He was on the DL earlier, but you have to wonder, is this guy injured? In 2009 and 2010 when he was healthy, he pitched better than this.

I’m in favor of the one-gamer, after much reflection. Back in the day, if you didn’t win your division, you sat out the post-season. Think about SF winning 100+ and missing the playoffs.

Further back (pre-1969), if a team didn’t win its league it didn’t make it to the World Series.

Checkout some of the records of second, even third, place finishers prior to 1969.

Chipper Ceremony. You can see the WC game anywhere, and there likely will be more playoff games. They’re only doing that ceremony 1 time.

Against Roy Halladay, Chipper is 10-for-20 with three homers, Freddie Freeman is 6-for-14 with two homers, and Dan Uggla is 11-for-33 with three homers.

My thinking on JURRJENS is that his knees continue to limit his ability to pitch effectively.

In HANSON’s case, it seems to be an equal division between shoulder problems and technique coupled with attitude.

DAP, yes. Let me clarify. Pre-1969, only one team per league made it to the post season. The post season was the World Series. Plenty of teams with 90+ wins got to sit home after the last day of the regular season!

Hansons trade value is going down that is why he needs to be packaged with Malhom to bring back a decent position player. I still think the trade that needs to be made is Hanson and Malhom for Cain of KC.

Roy Halladay is 4-2 with a 3.38 ERA in 10 career starts against the Braves. But he’s 0-2 with a 5.81 ERA and .302 opponents’ average in five starts against them over the past two seasons, including 0-1 with an 8.44 ERA and .352 opponents’ average in three this season.

Today’s starter Mike Minor is 5-4 with a 2.32 ERA, .203 opponents’ average and seven homers allowed in his past 13 starts (10 quality starts), after going 4-6 with a 6.20 ERA, .271 opponents’ average and 18 homers allowed in his first 15 starts (four quality starts).

The Braves have scored one or no runs while he’s been in the game seven times in his past 13 starts, including no runs while he was in each of his losses during that period.

Dick Perez has produced many high quality baseball card sets in the last 30 years based on his paintings. The Hall of Fame Postcard set and the Baseball Immortals are massive sets of beautiful artwork featuring the greats of the game.
They were released in several series over time with matching serial numbers, complete sets are very rare and very desirable, but it’s the Autograph cards that get the most attention because of their scarcity.
These are high quality little works of art and look great framed.

Like the fibers woven delicately through imported silk garments…..one might characterize the post-season ‘handling,’ of Mr.Tommy Hanson as ‘delicate work.’

As many are aware, Tommy is in a highly self-critical evaluative phase of his career. The big guy has taken a tumble, which by most accounts, spells liberal–loud and clear. Liberal, not in the political sense….but in a consistently opponent friendly way. You see, Tommy liberally gives batters a nice pitch to drive….his best gifts these days result in homeruns–the opponents are pleased.

It wasn’t always this way for Hanson, having come up in the Braves farm system as a kid throwing ’smoke.’ But days lead to starts and starts lead to decisions—in the beginning, for him, those W/L decisions were very good. However, in his current pitching state, ‘good’ is not enough.

With the possibility of post-season play looming for the Braves; the starting piching must be very good to great for us to have a chance…..have a great winter, Tommy.

Nats might not have the best record – 1/2 a game ahead of Reds and 3 1/2 ahead of Giants…

“I haven’t put much thought in that,” Johnson said. “It may be even better to be the No. 2.”
Johnson has one point. Both top seeds will open on the road due to a one-year postseason scheduling quirk. While the second seed will at least know its destination on the day the season ends, the top seed must wait for the outcome of the play-in, then travel to start a playoff series two days later.
