Zimmerman, LaRoche, and Morse
Heyward, Jones and Freeman
Outside of starting pitching this is why the Nationals this is where the Nationals have a huge advantage. Uggs and McCann have been disappointing but our middle lineup guys don’t strike fear in pitchers.
Maybe next with J Hey and Freeman with another year under their belt and somebody to replace OLD hoss

I know it’s a long season but the Brave bats have to wake up. Is Bourn ever going to come out of this slump? They are striking out as a team way too much! Chipper is looking a tad bit tired. I would rest the starters as much as possible and let some reserves play. With a few more wins they should rap up a wild card spot and then it will be time to regroup! Let’s go boys

The good news is that the Cardinals got beat in shocking fashion by the Cubs. So, despite tonight’s loss to the Phillies, the Braves magic number for home field Wild Card is reduced to 6 with 11 games left to play. But, tonight was a squandered chance and squandered primarily because Hanson surrendered three gopher balls on two hanging curveballs and one grooved fastball. He’s lucky it wasn’t four as the leadoff hitter had the first hit of the game bouce off the top of the right centerfield wall!
The Brewers won last night and war winning tonight over the Nationals — which would be six straight wins for them if they do beat the Nats tonight. So, that would represent another chip off the National’s magic number over the Braves. The Brewers have also vaulted past the Dodgers for the team chasing the Cards for that second Wild Card berth, and they are just one game back in the loss column now.
The Braves cannot start Hanson again. Give Ben Sheets or Randall Delgado a chance!

I don’t know if I’ve heard a more damning comment about the Braves in recent memory.
How many of the 2012 Atlanta Braves (or the 2009-2011 Braves for that matter) can that honestly be said about?

“I think it’s stupid, to be honest with you,” he said. “But Major Lague Baseball wants a bunch of teams in the playoffs. There’s nothing like cut-throat baseball for the fans. And people love that 163rd regular-season game. They’ve loved it in the past. I’m sure that’s probably what’s promoted a second wild-card team. I wish they would’ve done it a year earlier so we would have had a chance last year. But it is what it is.”
What the hell. It probably is stupid, still not what I want to hear from my leader of a team. We’re at home and would be excited about playing fall baseball in front of a huge friday night crowd. Unfortunately, I have to agree with everything Hanson said. I don’t have any malice for the man, and certainly nothing personal against him. But, he’s being paid a very handsome income to perform a special skill that he is simply not performing. And given the stakes involved there is simply no reasonable choice except to try another pitcher.
The Brewers did win their game tonight versus the Nationals. The Brewers are among the hottest teams in the NL at this time and have won six straight games. So, perhaps the sweep we suffered against them just reflects what they have done to others.
The magic number is again 6 against the Cards and 5 against the Brewers. The odds go down for the other teams from there: Dodgers 4, Phillies 3, Pirates & Diamondbacks 2. No other team even has a mathematical chance to catch the Braves.
