Seems obvious Hanson would not have spot in playoff rotation unless one of other four gets hurt.
I wonder if those cheerleaders ever poot when they’re dancing like that?
Why would the Philles want Hanson, you couldn’t give him to them, they would not waste a roster spot on him.
September 21st, 20128:28 pm
Well Hanson has pitched 5 innings, so maybe now Fredi will get hi out of there.

DOB hopefully u r right but with fredi logic goes out the window many times.
September 21st, 2012
I would hope so. But I would also think there was no reason to let him hit last inning either….especially when you have guys who need to pitch.
first pitch to Prado and Scout is saying Kendrick is running out of gas …. I think it’s lying
September 21st, 20128:30 pm
I’ll tell you one thing about tonight’s game. If the Braves lose tonight, they will get swept this weekend. And then the Phillies will really beat themselves up about the 3 outta 4 they just lost to the Astros. That series hurt them bad.
September 21st, 20128:31 pm
You couldn’t give JJ or Hanson to anybody, they are toast, done PERIOD.
September 21st, 20128:32 pm
@Busch Leaguer — Daniel Bard fell way off the charts this yr. He was ineffective late last yr too, but maybe with Roger Mc Dowell Roger could help him & that could be a potentially great deal or ATL.
Bard has to get out of that mess. I think we would win that if it were Hanson for Bard straight up.
Roger is a good PC. Boston does not have a real PC now.
Hanson could not handle Boston but that would be their problem.
September 21st, 20128:34 pm
JJ has no trade value Hanson has a little.
JJ might get a minor league deal for next yr if lucky.

hanson should be left off the playoff roster….there is no scenario in the playoffs where he would pitch….so why even have him on the roster

Who are these people? Or who is this person?”
So Efrim? Shoot the messenger much?
Doesn’t matter if someone uses fifty names or one, doesn’t change the fact the Hanson is stinking it up. Or is Hanson’s performance and value actually depend on who is stating the obvious?
And BTW. I’m posting tonight as the Dart Thrower only. I know it’s hard to believe that more than one person here would think that Hanson is stinking it up.
September 21st, 20128:36 pm
So looks like I didn’t miss much while making dinner… oh Tommy..
I really don’t know what Tommy has done to deserve to stay in this game. He’s not a vet and he’s been pretty bad for a while now.
Trouble with Hanson is his lack of desire rubs off on the rest of the team. Braves are just going through the motions on offense .Get this one over ASAP and come back tomorrow ,Braves need to bounce back and at least avoid getting swept.A Phillies sweep makes a Braves -Phillies play in game a real possibility.
September 21st, 20128:37 pm
Still wondering as Tommy walks the leadoff man. Why is he still in there? Game isn’t out of hand yet. Could be really soon.
Why is Hanson still in there?
Hanson is Arb l next season, I doubt Braves will offer it to him, probably will be non tendered along with JJ.
September 21st, 20128:38 pm
Hanon a home run from being taken out.
Has there been a three up inning yet?
September 21st, 20128:39 pm
Yep, gonna go ahead and take the award for best Tommy Hanson pitching line of the night. I didn’t want to be right, but you gotta see that guy for what he is especially in this park.
How can the Astros beat this pitcher like they are supposed to but the Braves cannot? The Astros have already lost 100 games this season.
Just keeps getting better and better.
trouble with the curve
September 21st, 20128:40 pm
“Too fine with your command?” Joe Simpson……..Fine Sand, Joe?
I would rather have Jurrjens pitching than Hanson.
I guess Fruti figures we have the 1 game playoff locked up and can’t overtake the Nats so to hell with it!
September 21st, 20128:41 pm
A little late there Fredi – would’ve like to have seen the BP earlier. Wonder if Sheets is gonna pitch again? Even in relief, would like to see what he’s got prior to the playoff(s)
September 21st, 20128:44 pm
And there is an extra Hanson run.
“Hanson 5 2/3 IP, 6ERs, 3 HRs.”
Hanson 5 1/3 IP, 4 ERS, 3 HRs
Yep clearly I’m negative.
September 21st, 20128:45 pm
I hope the Phils don’t get the second WC, if they do they will beat us like a dog.
Make that Hanson 5 1/3 IP, 5 ERS, 3 HRs
I’m assuming everyone will apologize tonight/tomorrow. Take your time.
September 21st, 20128:46 pm
All this talk about how bad Hanson pitched – he ONLY gave up 4 hits!!!!!
So, Fredi, you dipstick, what did you accomplish by hitting Hanson in the 5th? You gave the team an automatic out, and let Hanson put another base runner on third, with less than 2 outs. Fredi. If there is a decision to be made you’ll make the wrong one. Hey Hanson’s 6th inning run scored! Are you suprised, Fredi? If you are, you’re the only one.
I’m bettin’, in 5 days, you’ll run’ol Gopher Ball Tommy out there again. But that’s how you manage. Brain dead has always been your style…and you do manage to run “brain Dead” out there, every day.
DOB – What is the status of Sheets, Delgado and Teheran, are they still on the team, if so WHY?
Game’s not ven over and we are near 1000 posts about this game.
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different outcome!
Ladies and gentlemen, with respect to throwing Tommy Hanson on the mound every fifth game, we have officially reached the point of insanity! Hanson is finished as a starting pitcher. His ERA has ballooned to well over 5, and his average innings pitched since the All-Star break is barely above the same number! The team is winless in all of his post-All-Star starts as he’s been stuck on the pedestrian 12 wins since then.
Hanson’s performance again tonight is more of the same unacceptable poor quality. He surrenders a gopher ball on a pitch breaking right down the middle of the plate and almost immediately puts his team behind. A total of five runs were surrendered over just 5.1 innings pitched, which works out to just under an ERA of 9. When a starting pitcher’s ERA is over 5, he is officially sub-standard. When it gets over 6 then it is time to release him.
Frankly, I would give Ben Sheets a chance and see if we can still tailor the rotation to have Medlen pitch the Wild Card game. What worse can Sheets do compared to Hanson’s actual performance? And then, after this season is over, Hanson should get his release. If some other team wants to take the chance and reclaim and salvage his career, then fine, best of luck!
Bottomline, Hanson is the anti-Medlen — a walking guaranteed team loss! He’s also a bullpen killer, guaranteeing the bullpen will have to pitch at least 4 full innings (likely more) for every start he makes! I’ve seen enough and frankly don’t want to see Hanson toe the rubber in a Braves uniform ever again!
September 21st, 20128:47 pm
Kevin McAlpin @KevinMcAlpin
Tommy Hanson’s line: 5.1 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 3 BB, 5 K, 3 HR, 73 pitches (45 for strikes) #Braves down 5-1, bottom 6th
Awesome… such a good starter. Looks like MFin was right on the 3HR. I tried to be positive tho…
I don’t have access to watch the game, but is there anything that Hanson did in the 5th inning that would cause Fredi to run him back out there in the 6th?
September 21st, 20128:48 pm
September 21st, 20128:49 pm
Hanson’s ERA is at 4.46, not quite 5 yet, but the rest of the post was interesting.
They might get 6 more wins, they might not
September 21st, 20128:50 pm
Kevin McAlpin @KevinMcAlpin
Tommy Hanson has failed to make it through the 6th in 6 straight starts. He’s made it through 6 just once in his last 11 starts.
Minor pitched every bit as badly for awhile and came back.
September 21st, 20128:51 pm
How bout Chipper in those earlier games.
How bout Chipper batting cleanup this season 26 RBI’s in 228 plate appearances. How bout changing up this sickening lineup? Put the singles hitter hall of famer out of cleanup and batting 2nd.
Michael Bourn has no business playing against lefthanders the way he is going. Platoon starting tomorrow.
September 21st, 20128:53 pm
Matt Chernoff @RealMattlanta
I’m thinking that was the last time we will see Hanson this season. Maybe Sheets or one of the young guys get a start. #Braves
“Looks like MFin was right on the 3HR. I tried to be positive tho…”
Nailed pretty much the whole line. It isn’t negative when you know the ability of your players.
But, Minor is on his way up and Hanson is on his way down, or should I say all the way down.
September 21st, 20128:55 pm
Come on Bluto!
Was Uggla watching that ball instead of running?
September 21st, 20128:56 pm
My sister can hit a sofball harder than Constanza hit a baseball so watch this at bat.
swung at a couple of balls there Mac
Ball 3, ball 4.
And McCann swings at both.
September 21st, 20128:57 pm
September 21st, 20128:58 pm
And commence the Constanza love Happy for the little guy though.
you don’t think he can get Overbay out Charlie???
Ball 4 inches from ground, nice plate discipline there Big Brian. Just pathetic.
Was hoping for a rook to take Tommy’s spot at the beginning of September, then he started pitching well. However, like Jurrjens, I wanted to see him keep it up. He was sub-par in his last few starts, though they were improvements. Tonight wasn’t good at all. Definitely shouldn’t be starting a playoff game, maybe not even pitching! If we can trade him for anything this season, do it.
And a run! Yay.
September 21st, 20129:01 pm
Has Overbay gotten a hit yet as a Brave? Has he even fouled a ball off yet?
Is McCann second coming to his bud Frenchy? His approach to hitting is disappointing. Nice guy, local kid. Not a smart baseball player, not very cerebral.
September 21st, 20129:03 pm
Well, the Braves are in their bullpen, time to start scoring. Avilan just needs to hold them here.
This offense is like something out of an horror movie.
I’ll stop watching now.
September 21st, 20129:04 pm
Put some thought into this option pickup regarding your catcher in the offseason. He’s been mediocre for 7 1/2 months of baseball offensively.
Actually not correct. Had a very good July. 6 1/2 months of mediocre baseball.
September 21st, 20129:07 pm
Most frustrating offense I think I have ever watched.
Hanson is done. Should not have started tonight–another Fredi brain cramp.
Overbay? What can one say? Why did they ever sign him? Even Greg Norton was better.
Wiggington looks like a boar hog
September 21st, 20129:08 pm
carlos beltran for the trivia?
September 21st, 20129:09 pm
The top of the lineup has to get some runs on the board this inning.
Overbay has one hit and 8 foul balls.
Ghost of Chipper Jones
September 21st, 20129:11 pm
Wasn’t there once a fellow nicknames ‘Home Run’ BAKER?
Absolutely nickname TOMMY HANSON ‘Home Run’ HANSON.
Totally different connotation……I mean…..
Hanson did pretty well I think–I saw the guy in person, he looked good; don’t understand all this hate? What’s wrong with this blog? We can come back with a Big ninth?
September 21st, 20129:13 pm
Don’t give up guys. The 8 th inning relief is a joke. I think we will win buy not before a bit of drama. Last time we played 7-3 going into 9th. Goy Heyward to fly out and then all hell broke loose. If Bastardo is on nobody hits him . Did I say if he’s on. Bourne has lost it guys . For awhile I thought he was best lead off hitter in lleague.
Prado’s been a bright spot. WTG
I know he should start the play-in game, don’t you folks?
Do we really have to suffer through two more starts with this guy….really?
Sheets went on the 15 Day disabled list, right? Been the longest 15 days! I never hear mention of him coming back. Pitch one of the kids in place of Hanson. EVER start he blows up the bullpen cause he can’t get through the 6th inning
September 21st, 20129:14 pm
Watch this slider whiff
Minor should have started today IMO.
September 21st, 20129:15 pm
EL CAPITAN MUDD:
You sir, are a funny man. heh!
Great offense tonight as well.
Can’t wait for the playoff(s).
C’mon Heyward be the guy…be Fredi’s apple in his eye
September 21st, 20129:16 pm
How about BOBBY FISH….60-day DL, and ‘nary a sight seen of him.
September 21st, 20129:18 pm
Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.
Prado leadoff, batting 5th whatever, somewhere. Bourn is killing this team, he is a platoon player against RH’s only. Chipper out of cleanup. Freeman raked at 3 slot this season, put him there. Heyward or Uggla batting 4th, whoever. SHAKE THIS LINEUP UP TOMORROW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jason, just waiting for the perfect time to strike out.
Heyward hasn’t had a good night
Heyward has to have a better AB than that…especially in that situation.
September 21st, 20129:19 pm
Wow, that ball was in inch an a half above the ground.
What I tell you
jason always takes the first strike and cant hit with two strikes…..doesnt leave a lot to work with
Has Overbay gotten a hit yet as a Brave? Has he even fouled a ball off yet?
I had wondered the same thing. It looks like he actually did get 1 hit. OPS+ of -58.
September 21st, 20129:20 pm
Whiff coming up
I am beside myself tonight…”Ghost”…..I just can’t fathom we run that 6′6″ Jackwagon out there to screw with our ‘ebb and flow.’ Mucus has a better shot at hitting the plate from my nostril for a strike than that minor “A” ball pitch from Tommy Toolmeister–can’t believe it—dumbfounded we are in the position we are with those–yeah let’s run Tommy out there in the rotation again planning–My God, is this a fantasy?
September 21st, 20129:23 pm
Back to back poor ABs by Heyward & Chipper. The 3 & 4 hitters are a combined 0 for 8 with 5 Ks!
Bac to back bad ABs by Heyward & Chipper. The 3 & 4 hitters are a combined 0 for 8 with 5 Ks!
I haven’t been wrong yet about Heyward slider whiff and same with Egojones
Overbay is 1-13 as a Brave. Neither Heyward nor Chipper looked good swinging at those sliders – disappointing night of offense.
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
