I think the Rockies should fire near everyone in their front office as well as the coaching staff and start absolutely fresh. From the start of last offseason to now has been an absolute disaster.

“The worst part is, IF the Braves lose that game, there will sure enough be people all over this thing talking about it being a choke job.”

The choke job is really on the ownership not putting together a team to win the division, but settling for the Wild Card and thus the coin flip game.

They have to realize that this next off-season and put together a more complete team for a 162 game season in order to better compete for the division.

But that’s just it in Atlanta….

No matter the crowd size, no matter the noise level, no matter anything, we typically get our heads handed to us in those games. Atlanta is best known for its home field disadvantage.

I was at the World Series clincher back in ‘95, and to this day, I still have a hard time believing we won it.

“Ever get the feeling we’re not getting the truth on Simmons?”

I’d take it a step further. The Braves give away virtually no information to the public, and are not above outright lies and/or misinformation. (Not unlike seemingly every other corporation/politician/public figure.)

He won his appeal, but the appeal basically admitted to his guilt. Whether the sample was handled correctly or not, doesn’t change the fact that the sample was positive for steroids. Ryan Braun did steroids.

Topic from earlier I am bringing up again – poor play by pinch hitters.

I believe this is largely due to the fact that they do not get enough at bats. One thing that Bobby was so good at was getting everyone at bats at least once week, which always seemed to be on a Sunday. Fredi does not do a very good job rotating his bench guys into games to let them see some pitches. Imagine trying to hit a 95 mph fastball after having only 5-6 at bats in last 2 weeks.

I dislike the idea of going with 3 starters in a 5 game or 7 game playoff, always have. Particularly in a year like this where there is no noted difference between the 2nd and 4th pitchers. Medlin is a given but Hudson, Maholm and Minor are equally effective. I believe that your best starter or best two starters are more effective on full rest than on short rest. I believe that statement is supported by statiscal data. I also believe that going with 3 starters instead of 4 is a contributing reason of why Atlanta and Cox only won 1 World Series.

Face facts, you guys got screwed this year. Last year you’re on the verge do a best of 5 series. This year you’re in all likelihood going to have a 1 game series with the Cardinals. Not fair. This extra Wildcard yea it brings more teams in the hunt as the season winds down but the Braves who just may end up with a better record than the Giants have to sweat out a 1 game series where anything at all can happen. Your beat bet and that ain’t happening is get the Phil’s out of the race so when they play Washington the scrubbies will be playing. Beat out the Nats or you’ll be going home even though you’re already there after one game. Face facts. the Phillies dictated your last years choke of the century and this year will play a big roll. Everybody’s talking about HowRd having a bad year. He’s got 53 RBI’s with 237 at bats. The leader Braun has 105 with 549 at bats. And Howie kills the Braves. I’d be stunned if the Phil’s don’t sweep. Last series was a whitewash but for one swing and why they pitched to Egomaniac with Freeman waiting to whiff still has Philly fans pissed at Charlie Baby. Expect an )electric sold out ( that’s when all of the seats are filled) which I know you have a good half dozen
When we have all but 2 games and only had 42,000 instead do 42,500. The Phil’s are in the Braves heads since we had them golfing the morning after the sweep to put a stamp on one of if not the biggest choke job in baseball history.

Kimbrel’s statistics are terrifying. He is the best closer we’ve had since Smoltz, and might be better than him as a closer. The only question is, is when the game is on the line in a potential elimination or playoff scenario can he succeed?

He let the pressure get to him in 2010. He let it get to him in 2011, how about this year? I think he gets over the hurdle and obliterates the competition. He wants this, he’s the hungriest I’ve ever seen him pitch in his career. He won’t be rattled or frustrated like he was against Philly last year. No, this time Kimbrel is out for blood in the form of strikeouts.

This is still going to be a really tough series. Phillies are playing well, let’s hope the bats are successful again against Kendrick, hopefully Tommy can keep improving. Let’s take care of business the rest of the season. Just win series, that’s all we’ve got to do. Sweeps are preferable, but let’s win some series instead.

OnlyBravesFan, I think it might be wise to start Minor in game one as he has been very shut down lately, and Huddy has been inconsistent. Let’s hope that he regains it because if Minor Huddy and Medlen are rolling on all cylinders, that’s a very good three man rotation for a five game set. And if Maholm can improve like did this week, that’ll be big, too.

Tommy shouldn’t be on the postseason roster. Easily the weakest pitcher, and despite him doing somewhat better, he can’t go deep and his slider and curve ball hang way too much. Tommy, do not throw your sliders to any more left handers! It’s getting destroyed!

Go Braves!

AT-

Not sure if you’re still around, but I had to go to lunch….

Just read what you said and frankly, I think I’d throw Minor out there in Gm1 against the Nats if thats who we would play and I’d throw Maholm in a Gm4…he has been good enough to win more times than not and has made over 50% quality starts as a Brave….

The reason I would go w/ Minor in Gm1 is that would allow him to go 2 games if it went all 5 and I’d prefer that or Tim “I get hit hard by quality teams this year” Hudson….

Huddy is 0-2 in 3 starts against the Nats with an ERA approaching 8….yeah you heard me, EIGHT….

I understand the concept of the veteran and the guy who has been to the postseason before, but what happened to BETTER….and just pitching the guy who has been BETTER….Minor has been that since the beginning of July…

If you look at the 15 starts Huddy has made against teams still alive for playoff contention(leaving out PIT and SD), he has pitched to a tune of a 4.50 ERA…not bad, but also not a #1/2 starter….

Mike Minor since July 1 has 10 QS of 13 total starts….he has been about as money as you can get without being Kris Medlen good.

He would be the Game 1 starter if I were the manager….

But alas, the Braves are about rewarding based on loyalty, NOT trying to win games….

ChipperisGod-

In all fairness to Craig, I was there when the first hammer flew in STL when we started to REALLY blow the WC lead and got swept…

Craig came out in the 1st game on Friday and didn’t have his best stuff, BUT there were two outs and Pujols was up and he was overmatched clear as day on the first fastball….

The smart money says to guard the lines and bunch the gaps and leave the middle open…..I even said as much at the park in MUCH more colorful language about Freeman being off the line….

And then Pujols hits one off the end of the bat and shoots it down the RF line past Freeman and that was that…..2 walks, 2 hits, but the biggest mistake was not guarding the line from in the dugout…and they ended up walking off the next inning behind the usual Fredi pitches awful pitcher A (Scott Linebrink) to end the game…

In fact, given I recall the game like it was yesterday, the 1st hit of the inning to Schumacher never should have happened either….Craig was pitching hard as usual yet we had Bourn positioned in RCF…

Its amazing the things I have forgotten over the years, but the games (especially the bad ones) stay with me forever

P-T, I’m not sure who’d I go with in the one game shot right now, although Medlen looks to be the best option as long as he’s not coming back to pitch on short rest. Our rotation has been too good at times and I don’t see anything good coming out of short rest. I would only advise whoever gets the call to pitch that one game, Fredi had better have someone warming up in that first inning. It seems if we’re going to get rocked it always happens in the first so I’d have someone ready asap to go if it looked like whoever started doesn’t have thier stuff. And, it doesn’t take long to figure that out either and so many times the changes come too late in my opinion.

Says WHO?!

Hudson is one of the main reasons the A’s never won big when he was there….always good regular season numbers, never lived up to it come postseason…

Sound like something you’ve heard before?

Plus he gets OWNED by the Cards and Nats like he’s their personal b*tch!

Shall I go to the stats again for 2012? :

0-2 in 4 starts w/ a 7.78 ERA against the Cards and Nats and if not for the 6 runs of support for him (incl 10 in game against STL) we would have lost all 4 of those…

Medlen should be a clear cut choice for the play-in and Minor should be much closer than people think for Game 1….

Hudson is the choice for people who either a) don’t want to think about the decision or b) don’t actually comprehend his year against these teams

IF he had a 4 or even 5 ERA I might think differently, but both teams hit hit around the yard like he was Kenshin Kawakami in a Hudson uni.

No doubt in my mind whatsoever….Meds is THE guy!

Also, I expect the rotation to be shuffled by that point to where Medlen may even pitch the home finale Sunday if we clinch a spot early next week.
