Still 3-0, bottom of sixth.
@Nolieee….Chip thinks Meds’ change is great tonight, he just stated such via broadcast
Ghost of Chipper Jones
September 19th, 20128:57 pm
Aussie KENNELLY pronounced keh-nelly, light-hitting most of the time, has occasional hitting spurts, some power, AA last season. Servicable defensively. Good upside potential.
September 19th, 20128:58 pm
Dumb question – but I can’t find the answer.
If Medlen pitches into the 9th, and suppose with one out, he and Prado switch positions for a batter. Medlen comes back and gets the final out or two.
Would he qualify for both a win and a save?
he has been good tonight, but not quite as sharp as the coupla previous outings.more pitches have gotten up. still a shutout obviously
I think Washington is going to win the second game of the DH.
If Braves win their series and LAD wins tomorrow, Brave pick up a game over this series.
I couldn’t help ya out, rich, because i’m too dumb and am such a hater…..
September 19th, 20129:00 pm
Kevin McAlpin @KevinMcAlpin
They just showed Chipper, Freddie and Uggla on the Kiss Cam at Marlins Park!
Too much hugging going on???
Top of 4th
September 19th, 20129:01 pm
Strasburg’s replacement didn’t do so well tonight
September 19th, 20129:02 pm
September 19th, 20129:03 pm
Much grass, amigos!
September 19th, 20129:05 pm
Even better, the Fish broadcast showed it on TV
September 19th, 20129:07 pm
Mr. Prado – very well done
September 19th, 20129:08 pm
Prado just makes plays.
Prado can’t play ss…..
Great play. Has looked great there all night.
Marteeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeen is the man!
Martin Prado is a baseball god!
September 19th, 20129:09 pm
Yes, I can see you now on top of Chimney Rock screaming, “I hate the BRAVES.” It’s in the win’ bro’.
“Prado elevates and releases his inner Jeter!”
I like the Marlins play-by-play guy.
I am glued to every Medlen start…I don`t see a player T on the website….I need one.
FIRE FREDI GONZALEZ
September 19th, 20129:10 pm
Chipper is going Yammo on this one.
But you hate CHIP CAREY? Hater!
Hugo Z Hackenbush
I wish somebody would go back and repost all the comments about how scary it is to have Prado playing short…yeah, a game or two at short is going to kill the Braves…
September 19th, 20129:11 pm
They really do need to bring the Prado commercials back, because Marteeen really can do just about anything! What a baseball player!!
Medlen is out of site!
Hanson needs to go!
September 19th, 20129:13 pm
You know, when you crush a pitch about 405 feet (like has happened twice in this game) it really ought not to be an out! The Marlins have to move the fences in! It is crazy enough to experience it over a three-game series. But, to play half your games it would make practically every hitter on your lineup hate wearing a Marlins’ jersey!
No problem with Marteen playing SS for a game or two (or several, even)- it’s long term (as in permanent) that would concern me. Same with him at 1st base. He can more than handle himself there for a a week or so, but long term, I think he gets exposed defensively
September 19th, 20129:15 pm
Just checked in and can’t believe Meds is throwing another shutout…I mean, seriously! Wow. This kid is amazing! What the heck? And it’s not just a fluke run…Kid strikes them out, gets them out, and if he can’t get strikes, finds ways to get them out. In awe of this kid…Wow.
September 19th, 20129:16 pm
What the heck?
September 19th, 20129:18 pm
Cab, there’s no real way to know if he would get “exposed” until he actually tried it. There’s no reason to try it of course…but the results might not be all that horrendous, and he might resent the implication that they would be,,,
What’s nolie, murph, TOBF, VJ and Frankie doing on the field of play??
O M G !!
September 19th, 20129:19 pm
Nice catch, Michael!
@Phil just a tad curious….Please define what a ‘hater’ is in terms of Blogworthiness?
September 19th, 20129:20 pm
Oh, and did I just see the Nats are down 6 – 0 to the Dodgers? Good night for the Braves so far…
based on the lack of playing time he’s had there in his career and reports that it is not a strong position for him, why risk it? Like you said, no reason for him to be anything but a back up there, especially since he IS so strong at other positions.
September 19th, 20129:21 pm
Meanwhile, Kris a/k/a “Little Doggie” keeps doing what he’s doing so well!
September 19th, 20129:22 pm
Come on, Fredi! Let Medlen go out and try to earn the complete game shutout! Keep the bullpen on the pine tonight and have a night of rest!
Medlen so far, 8 scoreless innings of 4-hit ball in 99 pitches. Headed to top of 9th with 3-0 lead. O’Flaherty warming, but not sure if that’s just in case.
Kris Medlin is my frickin hero.
Mudd – i don’t know. I think the hater term is stupid myself. Seems to mostly mean one who dares disagree with another who thinks he or she is smarter than others for no apparent reason. Something like that, i guess.
September 19th, 20129:24 pm
Of course, some are smarter than others but not always the ones that think they are…..
Doesn’t look like that will happen! Kimbrel is throwing in the bullpen.
September 19th, 20129:25 pm
Marteen has certainly surprised me with the way he has handled the SS duties. Though I’d think there would be no doubt he’d be lacking in some range over there. Which has been the reason all along he was not considered as a full time starter.
What an incredible game for Meds!! I’d love to see him get a shot at the 9th for the shutout. Have Kimbrel at the ready if a batter gets on. But Kris has gotten thru the 7th and 8th with 18 total pitches!
September 19th, 20129:26 pm
I’d take a meaningless Dan Uggla solo home run.
Or nothing at all.
Spot on, phil.
September 19th, 20129:27 pm
And John Wyane is my favorite actor! (learn to spell your fav players name correctly, OK)
Despite his less than stellar defense, the Braves were considering Pastornicky at short. If your offense is good enough, being merely adequate on defense is no big sin.
Mac looks hungry….
Nice hit too!
September 19th, 20129:28 pm
Well done, BMac (not to mention what he did in last night’s game – “McCant” this!)
Exactly. He’s perfectly capable of handling just about any position for a short time, but there are some that, long term, I would not want to see him play…
Meds is my guy! Always has been
September 19th, 20129:29 pm
Which is why I like Janish on the team- his defense is invaluable at short
Wow…Octavio Dotel is pitching for his 13th team this year.
True, but then phil there’s you.
September 19th, 20129:30 pm
Mitchell – or a meaningless Uggla walk? Are walks meaningless when they lead to runs on the board, or is it just home runs that are meaningless?
Also, Pastornicky lost his job because of his defense. I don’t think they were expecting it to be quite so shaky
Great job tonight for Medlen, PH here though
What is Mac doing on third base!!????
Certainly good to see Mac having a solid couple of games with no apparent lingering injury issues.
September 19th, 20129:32 pm
Well done, Reed!
Hopefully McCann goes on a hot streak into the playoffs.
Reed Johnson just drilled a double to the left centerfield wall but the only man on the team who could not score with two outs on contact was at first base. I was hoping Brian McCann could have made the turn at third but he hobbled in just as the throw was being made to the cutoff man!
Medlen out after 8 scoreless innings, 99 pitches, 4 hits and 1 walk with 6 strikeouts. Braves up 3-0 and have 2 on in 9th
September 19th, 20129:34 pm
Any reason with 25 guys on the bench that we can’t find a runner for McCann?
@Phil…..Thanks, if I may, in addition; subjectively oriented sub-par reference inspired by the ‘I know more “I know more baseball” notion–so I’ll wait ntil you and I cross paths….when it occurs; any rebuttal challenging the uncertified baseball genius will be dealt with sternly and, the ‘hater’ label then becomes attached–then a host of like-minded followers support the challenged wherefby negating that individuals credibility–this is when the final screw is mounted on the ‘hater’ label.
Poor Brian McCann. I am sure there was a day he remembers being fleet of foot. But, alas, too many years of playing catcher!
Brian “I am not French” Gaudin is up now trying to strand McCann at third!
Overpaid is done…
September 19th, 20129:35 pm
Sorry! Make that Chad “I am not French” Gaudin — and he said “Non!”
I don’t want McCann on the team if that’s all he’s got running. Pick up the option and work every team in the American League. It will be no harder to find a catcher than a CFer.
Just clearly cost a run there.
September 19th, 20129:36 pm
Not so funny after all.
Thanks for playing, Lyle?
Fredi wants Kimbrel to get a save thats why he send Overbay up to pinch hit.
But Pastornicky was “shaky” in the minors, whatever excuses were made for him. It was no secret. If the offense had been there…
Dang, Miguel Cabrera just left the yard with a heater way up and out of the strike zone.
September 19th, 20129:37 pm
boscan and ross on the bench i dont really understand why a pinch runner wasnt used…..cost us a run
If Buffet Brian wasn’t 50 pounds overweight, he scores easily….
I’ve seen cashew nuts run faster than him. And no, it’s not his bum knee.
September 19th, 20129:38 pm
Get somebody up Fredi.
September 19th, 20129:39 pm
How spoiled can one be to actually feel a bit of disappointment that Kimbrel came into the game to pitch!
Reyes continues his rare dominance with a leadoff single. Carlos Lee took less time to record an out than it took me to type this sentence!
Even with a three run lead I’m not comfortable.
When it comes down to it the Braves can’t hit in the clutch…
That’s the end of the sentence.
September 19th, 20129:40 pm
Except that he’s not 50 pounds overweight
Come on, Craig!
Ugh Oh! Kimbrel just hit the next batter and is putting the potential tying run at the plate!
Hmmm, getting more “interesting” than I’d like to see!
Great time of year for Kimbrel to start showing cracks…..sigh.
Medlen or Kimbrell forCy Young. Cy Young is an award for the best pitcher in the league, is there any better than those two? It’s up to the sports writers to decide, no minimum innings required
September 19th, 20129:41 pm
Of course not, Cab….a vision of thin.
September 19th, 20129:42 pm
Famous last words, Chip.
September 19th, 20129:43 pm
Who said Prado couldn’t play SS, Me for one, little did I know.
Yeah, Phil, why don’t you stand up and get nailed on the inside of your knee with only a thin strap of elastic between your inner knee ligaments and a foul tipped baseball going at 90 plus miles per hour! Then, having experienced that, you can tell me in your “expert opinion” how McCann’s knee isn’t killing him!
I played catcher and I’m telling you, you don’t even have to get nailed a few games back that way to have your knees kill you this late in the season! And I never played higher than high school where I played only 30 games a year — not 162!
September 19th, 20129:45 pm
There is a rather large gap between “thin” and “50 pounds overweight” (especially when you have no idea how much someone weighs. Also- being thin does not automatically make you fast)
Yeah, you want a thin catcher, all the easier to run him over at home plate, makes great sense!
Baseball Fans: You have just had the privilege of seeing the best starter & closer in ML shutout the mighty Marlins
Brian from SC
Kimbrel had gone 20 consecutive appearances recording at least one strikeout. His last game with no K’s was on July 18th.
Yes! Braves win!
