Aussie KENNELLY pronounced keh-nelly, light-hitting most of the time, has occasional hitting spurts, some power, AA last season. Servicable defensively. Good upside potential.
I wish somebody would go back and repost all the comments about how scary it is to have Prado playing short…yeah, a game or two at short is going to kill the Braves…
You know, when you crush a pitch about 405 feet (like has happened twice in this game) it really ought not to be an out! The Marlins have to move the fences in! It is crazy enough to experience it over a three-game series. But, to play half your games it would make practically every hitter on your lineup hate wearing a Marlins’ jersey!
No problem with Marteen playing SS for a game or two (or several, even)- it’s long term (as in permanent) that would concern me. Same with him at 1st base. He can more than handle himself there for a a week or so, but long term, I think he gets exposed defensively
Just checked in and can’t believe Meds is throwing another shutout…I mean, seriously! Wow. This kid is amazing! What the heck? And it’s not just a fluke run…Kid strikes them out, gets them out, and if he can’t get strikes, finds ways to get them out. In awe of this kid…Wow.
Cab, there’s no real way to know if he would get “exposed” until he actually tried it. There’s no reason to try it of course…but the results might not be all that horrendous, and he might resent the implication that they would be,,,
based on the lack of playing time he’s had there in his career and reports that it is not a strong position for him, why risk it? Like you said, no reason for him to be anything but a back up there, especially since he IS so strong at other positions.
Medlen so far, 8 scoreless innings of 4-hit ball in 99 pitches. Headed to top of 9th with 3-0 lead. O’Flaherty warming, but not sure if that’s just in case.
Mudd – i don’t know. I think the hater term is stupid myself. Seems to mostly mean one who dares disagree with another who thinks he or she is smarter than others for no apparent reason. Something like that, i guess.
Marteen has certainly surprised me with the way he has handled the SS duties. Though I’d think there would be no doubt he’d be lacking in some range over there. Which has been the reason all along he was not considered as a full time starter.
What an incredible game for Meds!! I’d love to see him get a shot at the 9th for the shutout. Have Kimbrel at the ready if a batter gets on. But Kris has gotten thru the 7th and 8th with 18 total pitches!
Despite his less than stellar defense, the Braves were considering Pastornicky at short. If your offense is good enough, being merely adequate on defense is no big sin.
Exactly. He’s perfectly capable of handling just about any position for a short time, but there are some that, long term, I would not want to see him play…
Reed Johnson just drilled a double to the left centerfield wall but the only man on the team who could not score with two outs on contact was at first base. I was hoping Brian McCann could have made the turn at third but he hobbled in just as the throw was being made to the cutoff man!
@Phil…..Thanks, if I may, in addition; subjectively oriented sub-par reference inspired by the ‘I know more “I know more baseball” notion–so I’ll wait ntil you and I cross paths….when it occurs; any rebuttal challenging the uncertified baseball genius will be dealt with sternly and, the ‘hater’ label then becomes attached–then a host of like-minded followers support the challenged wherefby negating that individuals credibility–this is when the final screw is mounted on the ‘hater’ label.

Yeah, Phil, why don’t you stand up and get nailed on the inside of your knee with only a thin strap of elastic between your inner knee ligaments and a foul tipped baseball going at 90 plus miles per hour! Then, having experienced that, you can tell me in your “expert opinion” how McCann’s knee isn’t killing him!
I played catcher and I’m telling you, you don’t even have to get nailed a few games back that way to have your knees kill you this late in the season! And I never played higher than high school where I played only 30 games a year — not 162!

Dumb question – but I can’t find the answer.
If Medlen pitches into the 9th, and suppose with one out, he and Prado switch positions for a batter. Medlen comes back and gets the final out or two.
Would he qualify for both a win and a save?
