Even when he’s had low pitch counts recently, no run support gets him pulled.
I think the fact he’d be staring down the line up for the third time gets him pulled. Opponents hit .380/.443/.633/1.076 off of him on their 3rd trip. If he were as great as he was supposed to be, he wouldn’t be pulled in the 5th in a close game.
What of those certain few obsessed with correcting those here perceived to be wrong all the time?
Stalkers………?
I agree as to DOB. He’s the one person here that someone could obviously hunt down if they had a large enough screw loose in their pea-sized noggin. We all know what he looks like, what he does, where he is at least when on duty and such as that, so yeah, if I’m him, I can see it. Of course DOB isn’t John Lennon or David Letterman….not that he isn’t similarly talented in his chosen field, of course.
But the otherwise anonymous nature of this place should cover the rest of us….well, except for those who publicly out themselves in one way or another.
I think last time he got pulled when he did because of lack of run support. I firmly believe that Fredi would have run him out there again if his turn at bat had not occurred.

Oh, and TP, I would say that between the stats we have all provided that Tommy sounds more like a reliever to me, but with his BB/9 who wants to put that in their pen?!

Hope this is an outlier. No evidence to support that as being a trend.

So this should tell you a bit more about who is more reliable….in fact, this would suggest that Medlen and Maholm are the 2 more reliable pitchers to give you 6 and give the team the best chance to win…
BUT Minor has 9 QS since the ASB….so he has been great….
This tells me though that many overvalue Hudson because he’s good or bad on every other start and very inconsistent AND Tommy Hanson has just been flat out AWFUL this year
there ain’t enough room on this page for a chart of the pitchers who fare worse on later appearances
There are a lot of them. Historically speaking, it’s not good overall. But historically speaking, Hansons 2012 split is bad. This is just not a good year for him. And that has more to do with taking him out in the 5th than the score of the game. The guy is usually at or near 100 pitches by the fifth because he is terribly inefficient… and by the time he gets that many pitches, hitters are squaring him up. Hence he gets the hook.
The in-game stats recently provided some great stats. I do believe since the All-Star break Medlen has lowest ERA in NL and Minor has 3rd lowest. Still can’t believe Minor is under .500 though.
In fact, Hudson has had 6 QS since the ASB and is getting a whole run more support over the season than Minor…
We have scored 2 or less in 10 of Minor’s starts and only 6 of Hudsons….
In fact, if we scored 3 runs in any of those games, Minor would be 14-6 and not 9-10…..thus he is the tough luck loser and would look much better than some see him.
“It will continue, even with a strong Hanson effort.”
I don’t consider 2 earned runs in the 5th or 6th inning a strong effort. Especially when the bullpen bails him out and keeps his ERA down in the 6th.
If he can go a whole game without giving up a homer and can get through the 6th completely, I will not say one bad word about him until his next start (which hopefully would be taken over by Sheets anyways.)
That’s MLB league average for SP when they go thru the order for the 3rd time. Lee, Hamels, Shields, and my man are all around that mark. Randall Delgado and Maholm too, as shown above. Huddy, Zito, and Minor are a bit above that. Hanson is waaaay off the pace.
P-T, The scariest part of those numbers are, Maholm has probably put together his best season and yet still been just average. So, you pretty much seen all he can or might give you. Hanson on the other hand has in fact been better in the past and supposely working on a new delivery and yet still was out pitched by Maholm. I’d be more willing to take a chance that Hanson that he might be able to fix the problems ailling him than to bet my money on Maholm bringing much more than a number 4 or 5 starter.. just my opinion.
get Medlen in the rotation and he’ll pitch his way to the hall of fame
You should really, really hope that there is never a period when Little Game loses his command for a stretch. That’s payback that no mama would want to see.
Maybe you guys should get VJ to clear up your fencing terms for ya…..after all, with his infinite wisdom in so many areas of life, I’m confident he can set us all straight in a hurry.
No you won’t. Just like TOBF, you can’t stop hating on Hanson. It will continue, even with a strong Hanson effort.
Me? Hanson hater? I musta missed the memo. I’ve congratulated him for having some decent starts in September. It’s good to see. Still doesn’t erase the sukkage he did from May til August. I don’t see him being as tradeable as you do. Might he get traded? Yes. But most likely for a low-level, mid-ceiling prospect. His trends show him to be declining. I’d be wary of trading any true talent for that.
I have been around but haven’t posted in a while. This will be my last, don’t want to be part of a police state. When you start saying freedom of speech doesn’t apply here where does it end. Maybe it ends when David O’brien can no longer say anything about a braves player That his is in a slump etc.
In David O’brien’s own words he is a big boy who can take the pressure. He couldn’t take it from Huddy and now he has banned ace and George is next.
Utter nonsense and pathetic just pathetic. I am out and hope anyone else who is a Vet will follow suit. We fought and died for these freedoms. I don’t know if Mr. O’brien has served his country, I can only say I hope not with these type of views.

Tommy Hanson 3rd time thru lineup; .380/.443/.633/1.076
screams great starter to me. By the time he gets to the 5th, he’s screwed/done
Paul Maholm 3rd time thru: .263/.314/.398/.711/
Last 5 starts:
Hanson- 25.1 IP, .282/.339/.466/.805 with a 4.62 ERA
Maholm- 25.0 IP, .305/.365/.448/.813 with a 6.12 ERA

Any chance to remind you that what I said earlier was true… get Medlen in the rotation and he’ll pitch his way to the hall of fame ( :

Perish the thought!
Actually, I guess in blog terms, “riposte” might be more appropriate than “reprise”, but you get the idea, LOL.

You should really, really hope that there is never a period when Little Game loses his command for a stretch.
That’s payback that no mama would want to see.
