Basically, are replacements for injured players allowed to be made in the middle of a series?
I don’t think they are. Or if they are, I think there may be some rule stating that the player who was replaced (Simmons) would have to miss the next series also (or possible the rest of the playoffs).
I probably need to see more of him. If they continue hit him 8th, then we’ll see some walks boost that OBP up. Not sure he can slug .400, so he’s going to need to obp AT .350 to have a chance at .730 year in and year out.

Tim Hudson has 1 regular season relief appearance back in 2008 and 1 postseason relief appearance in 2001
Paul Maholm had an early season relief appearance with the Cubs this year…his 1st

Mike Minor has 1 career relief appearance as well back in his rookie year

IF you base it on criteria A, its either Hudson or Minor as that guy
IF you base it on criteria B, looking as though it will be St. Louis to play, Hanson and Maholm BY FAR exceed what the other two have done vs the Cardinals…in fact, Hanson has shut down all 3 of the Cards big 3 even to the tune of Beltran being 1 for 14 against him…Holliday is 6 for 31 against Maholm….so that would be all about pick and choose and hope Medlen goes long enough to not have to worry….

True, but if you plan is to have Hudson and Minor ready in Games 1 and 2 of the division series, it’s pretty unlikely they would have pitched in games 161 and 162, since you’d have been setting up your rotation that entire week. The Game 2 starter might not be ready, but the Game 1 starter should be good to go in the pen for the WC game.

“Kemp is a great player,” teenage phenom Bryce Harper said. “That’s why he was MVP last year. I think with one swing of the bat he can change the ballgame. There’s really nothing you can do about it.”
Tonight’s Caught Looking, airing at 9 p.m. ET on NBC Sports Network, goes behind the scenes at last weekend’s Nationals-Braves series. Spoiler alert! The Braves swept the series.
But Caught Looking is about more than the game action:
… the episode features compelling in-game audio, highlighted by wireless microphones worn by Braves third baseman Chipper Jones and Braves pitcher Kris Medlen. The episode also features in-depth interviews with Nationals manager Davey Johnson, Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez, as well as profiles of Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper and third baseman Ryan Zimmermann. Off the field, a camera crew spent time with Jones as he met Emily Wynn, a huge Braves fan who barehanded Jones’ walk off home run on September 2nd. The band OAR is also featured, as they take in Saturday’s game and prepare for a postgame concert that night.
Someone earlier mention Nintendo-like stats. Look at this:
34 Games started, 28 complete games.
13 Shutouts.
304 2/3 innings.
22 wins, 9 losses….with five 1-0 losses.
1.12 era.
I was looking at some of my old ball cards last night and saw that on the back of my 1969 Bob Gibson card. He did that in 1968 – The Year of the Pitcher.
That is truly Nintendo numbers. And with no pitch count to worry over.
Used to be Outdoor Life, then Versus. You know, random hockey and bicycling that makes the four-year-old want to hurt people.
Ahhh… that channel.
We got rid of cable for the summer and only recently got it hooked back up. I have no idea what the channels are anymore… the Time Warner channel lineup says they carry it, but I’m not sure if it’s on one of those $6.99/month tiers that I refuse to pay for.
Brandon McCarthy @BMcCarthy32
“Those helpless two weeks after the cable company changes your channel lineup is prob my best comparison for concussion recovery.”
It’s OK, Murph. You’re just slightly behind a guy who recently took a 120 mph missile off the side of his dome.
So the Redlegs are the first to make the postseason. They’ve still got a division to clinch, and they can do it as soon as tomorrow. Congrats to them…that’s a neat bunch they have over there.
Other playoff implications today: with the Reds’ win the Brewers were eliminated from the NL Central race. With St. Louis’s win, the Mets are now one loss tonight away from packing it in for the season.
I hope they never go to High School Football on Thursday nights.
Come on — HS Football belongs on Friday nite and Friday nite only — It is still about Education and preparing the HS kids for College, trade school military or work after HS now, isn’t it.
Just looking at the ad in the AJC — I guess they are replaying a game that was on last Friday. At least I hope so.
Is that DOB’er or like Dobber from Coach? — P-Town Brave
At the Marlins game Wednesday, we saw this group of little kids wearing shirts with “Lil’ Dobbers” on the front. I almost asked their coach — they were a team of some kind — where I could get some adult-sized shirts like the kids were wearing. Figured we could distribute them to blog denizens.

“Kemp is a great player,” teenage phenom Bryce Harper said. “That’s why he was MVP last year. I think with one swing of the bat he can change the ballgame. There’s really nothing you can do about it.”

It sure would have been nice had they actually gotten in on the Cespedes derby last year. We wouldn’t be looking for anything but a centerfielder.

Later good folks.

Ahhh… that channel.
We got rid of cable for the summer and only recently got it hooked back up. I have no idea what the channels are anymore… the Time Warner channel lineup says they carry it, but I’m not sure if it’s on one of those $6.99/month tiers that I refuse to pay for.

Other playoff implications today: with the Reds’ win the Brewers were eliminated from the NL Central race. With St. Louis’s win, the Mets are now one loss tonight away from packing it in for the season.

To the poster who recommended a Will Myers to the Braves deal—
Anyone who thinks that KC would trade Will Myers is going to be disappointed.
We do not have anything within reason that would make KC budge and why should they.
Will Myers is one of their building blocks. I’d be shocked if he is traded.
