Minor looked great again, shame he lost his scoreless innings streak, but he pitched well and got the win. Happy for him. Needs to win in both of his next starts to continue his streak of over .500 seasons.
Uggla had a big hit tonight. He keeps on hitting for September. Nice to see.

Hello everyone! No, on Greinke, because he’s inconsistant, and can’t put together long winning streaks when he pitches. To up, and down. Would take my chances with offense, and get Swisher, and sign Bourn. Not worth getting Greinke, and he would turn into another Lowe.
On that, I will call it a night…… Peace my friends…..Change course, and sign a big LF who can hit……Change is a good thing……Talk tomorrow, and “Go!!!!!Braves!!!!!”

I don’t think we will get a CF of any decency who will be making a half mil a yr.
If he is a young player on a non contending team, good chance that their existing team might see them in their building plans.
Like Houston’s Justin Maxwell or even LAA’s Peter Bourjos.
I don’t think we have to go that cheap anyway.
Anyway, the Braves are in a postion to make the run now — but I am not counting on anything because of what happenede last yr.
Great series by the Braves and they are not BUMBS anymore.
Minor is a keeper now & he is pretty much an untouchable. I hope we can keep Hudson beyone ‘13 cause he has been a bargain, a great Braves and one guy we might get a hometown discount for IF we do not disrespect him next yr with a poor offer.
Huddy has at minimum three good yrs left after 13, just my opinion. Maybe even a couple more.
We also need to look at another catcher behind Mc Cann and Ross cause Mc Cann is too injury prone.

The more I learn about what the docs think is wrong the more concerned I get. My daughters went on-line and came back with this little nugget………if left untreated, the disease is potentially fatal. And to date, we’ve only had a panacea of prednisone, not definitive diagnosis or treatment.
It’s great to see the Braves handle the Nats this weekend. It was as if the team was exorcising demons associated with being the Nats whipping boys for a few years now. Like most fans, I went to bed last night with a warm and fuzzy feeling about the sweep.
I woke up this morning and the warm and fuzzy stuff was gone.
This is a team that is capable of sweeping a series, being swept the next series, then sweeping the next series. It just happened! This has been the M-O of the 2012 Braves from day one of the season. They have been maddenly inconsistent.
During the regular season, the hot/cold streaks aren’t as much of a factor. As long as a team has more hot streaks than cold streaks, they can reach the playoffs. Example: This Braves team. Being in the midst of a hot streak can carry a team through post season, as long as when they do lose a game, it doesn’t send them into a death spiral of ineptness. (When the Braves lose, they lose ugly)
So when I read that the Nats have a tough schedule against teams fighting for the last WC slot, I see the Braves have the Marlins, Phillies, Marlins, Mets and Pirates. I see at least 4 out of 5 series the Braves should win. That being said, the lack of focus this Braves team sometimes has, could rear it’s ugly head when they are playing against the doormats. I hope not.
Note to team: Don’t pat yourselves on the back today. You still have games to play against teams who aren’t going to lay down for you.
I will close with what I hope is a positive note. It would seem that as close as the second WC race is, teams will be battling to the last day to get it. As a result, whoever the second WC team is will likely not get a chance to set their rotation so their ACE pitches the play-in game against the Braves. If the Braves draw their ace simply because of the way the rotation falls, then that’s just bad luck.
I like this. No, not Maxwell, just the idea of everyone posting their scrub CF pick. We haven’t really had a whole lot of CBI action this year (other than the couple of Constanza touts, but it’s hard for those to pick up any traction, LOL), so here’s a good way to mention every replacement-level guy who has produced even the slightest passing infatuation with a poster here. Let’s get to it! There might even be a nugget mixed in with the gravel.
That being said, the lack of focus this Braves team sometimes has, could rear it’s ugly head when they are playing against the doormats.
You were doing OK, and then you shot your credibility right in the lips. Anyone who thinks good teams lose to bad ones because of “focus”, rather than the simple vagaries of the game of baseball…
Gio struggled last night and the Braves were in command throughout the series.
Given that the Braves’ offense is still largely flat, goes to show what a difference strong pitching can make in a short series. Plus, the Braves just out-scrapped the Nats.
Just gritty all to hell and gone, LOL. Eckstein Index was pinning the needle. Might have even been some clutch sprinkled in there, but don’t quote me on that.
goes to show what a difference strong pitching can make in a short series.
Yes, but it also shows how twitchy those low-scoring close games can be. Outcome can turn on the luck of an error, the grazing of a jersey, a bad bounce, all sorts of stuff, most of which has little to do with the quality of the teams involved.
That’s something the small-ball aficianados should keep in the mind. They never do, though.
OnlyBraves – Maybe you need to go and look at what EOF has done since becoming a Brave. There is no way Avilan can replace him. Avilan is a good pitcher, but you need both of those LHRP in the pen. And I wouldn’t count Venters out either.
Neither are going to bring in trade what they are worth keeping the best bullpen around together. And neither are going to cost enough to need to trade them. Believe me – if they can get EOF to sign a two year $6 mil deal, they should jump on it. They won’t find anyone better to set up the 8th for Kimbrel and the two of them at the back of the pen are a major reason we’ve done as well as we have the past couple of years (and EOF for four).
They are much cheaper than the top line pitcher you keep railing about us needing and there is no team better after the sixth than the Braves – despite not having that pitcher you covet so much.
Good to see Freeman get going again. Both him and Heyward, man. Every time you think they are slumping big time, they come through with a strong few games to bump their numbers back up. It’s great to see from both the young kids.
Also great to see Minor with another strong outing. His last 13 appearances: 81.1 IP, 58 hits, 21 ER, 17 BB’s, 63 K’s, 7 HR allowed, 2.32 ERA, oppo. slash line of .203/.252/.322.

OK so you’ve got TennPaul and Lew covered. What’s next?
The City of Atlanta wants to help the Braves remove blight. No. Not Eric Hinske.
And a new sports and entertainment district could appease the Braves, whose lease on Turner Field and nearby parking lots ends in 2016, potentially freeing them up to leave the area. While team owner Liberty Media is unlikely to move the Braves, team executives recently met with Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed to press for ways to add a jolt to the neighborhood.
Still a little giddy about the sweep this weekend. If you had time-traveled back to last Friday morning with a copy of today’s AJC, I still would not have believed it.
I guess the Baseball Gods are still sore about Strasburg.
It would be nice to see the Nats fold up like lawn chairs and end up as a wild-card.
Looking forward to this week’s slate of games. GO BRAVES
scoots, how about Meds? 13 K’s. Insane. Not even sure where to start on that kid. It’s getting to the point where I don’t even need to see a 200+IP, sub-3.50 ERA season to fall in love with the kid…….
Pretty fun baseball weekend. Good thing my aim was off when Uggla popped up with men at second and third with no outs, otherwise he would not have been around to get that hit later.
Beautiful beach weather this weekend, too. It’s raining so hard this morning that my house may float away, though.
scoots, how about Meds? 13 K’s. Insane. Not even sure where to start on that kid.
Friday was as good a pitching performance as I’ve seen in some time. Kid was stunning; I don’t think I have another word for it. Man-against-boys stuff, frankly, and Nats were completely bumfuddled. Eight looking? Bubba, please.
MEDS is a chump. A flash in the pan. Send him to the pen where he belongs.
AVILAN is your man and was a starter throughout his career until this past two seasons when he was converted to the pen. BRAVES don’t know how to handle pitchers. Shouild be the starter, MEDS reliefer.
Heyward would need a BB per game, plus one, I think to hit my second half number of 42.
Not likely.
He’s been ultra aggressive this year. It’s worked for him and helped him achieve that .490+ SLG. But I’d love to see him put it all together next year and produce a near .400 OBP, plus the big SLG numbers. I’ll be looking for .880 next year.
“Tomahawkin, September 17th, 2012, 8:02 am … “Big Red is pitching his way to Kansas City, Take it to Vegas he gets Traded in the offseason…He is Chuck James without the Hype”
Hanson has had some bad games recently, but Saturday wasn’t one of them.
He walked a guy and made a bad pitch to give up a homer … 2 runs.
When his defense (including himself) kicked the ball around the infield, he held the opposition to 2 runs in that inning.
When his RF dropped a ball, he kept the guy from scoring.
He couldn’t go as deep as you might have liked, in part because he had to make extra pitches to get outs that should have been recorded earlier in the pitch count and in part because the Braves needed some offense when his spot came up.
Hanson has had some bad games recently, but Saturday wasn’t one of them.
Hanson is at that point with some posters now, that a good performance is ignored and anything less is reviled. Folks like that aren’t about to let facts get in the way, I’m afraid.
- He becomes a “bottome of rotation guy” for us, isn’t re-signed after next year
- He gets traded during off-season
- He actually continues to make adjustments, and becomes a solid #3, or even a #2

Interesting — Braves really didn’t win much, either.

Hello everyone! No, on Greinke, because he’s inconsistant, and can’t put together long winning streaks when he pitches. To up, and down. Would take my chances with offense, and get Swisher, and sign Bourn. Not worth getting Greinke, and he would turn into another Lowe.

Gio struggled last night and the Braves were in command throughout the series.
Given that the Braves’ offense is still largely flat, goes to show what a difference strong pitching can make in a short series. Plus, the Braves just out-scrapped the Nats.

Also great to see Minor with another strong outing. His last 13 appearances: 81.1 IP, 58 hits, 21 ER, 17 BB’s, 63 K’s, 7 HR allowed, 2.32 ERA, oppo. slash line of .203/.252/.322.

3 things could happen with Hanson –
- He becomes a “bottome of rotation guy” for us, isn’t re-signed after next year
- He gets traded during off-season
- He actually continues to make adjustments, and becomes a solid #3, or even a #2
He will NOT be non-tendered.
