Gearrin does have something some of the players on this team don’t have. Luck. He has had some rockets hit off him right at people all year. That 069 ERA is smoke and mirrors.
Ross went to the mond and told Gearrin, “Now Cory, these are major league hitters, they aren’t like me now. HAHA. Listen, you seen me bat, right? Forget it.”
What will it take to get Struggla out of this lineup once and for all?
Like Derek Lowe before him, Struggla is living off one good month. The rest of his time with the Braves, he’s been awful. But because he’s grossly overpaid, we keep running him out of there.
Uggla to his credit had the right idea mentally he just didn’t execute it. Runners 2nd and 3rd no out 3-0 count. Uggla guessed that Stammen will throw a fastball strike which he did. Uggla just didn’t execute. I mean he would have gotten that ball in the air atleast and that was exactly why he swung at the 3-0 pitch to put it in the air and get a run in.
Even if Uggla walked I still don’t know if we would have been able to get a run in that inning with Ross and Simmons coming up.
I’ve not been a fan of Gearrin but he looked good in that inning. I felt sorry for the batter that got his bat shattered about 10 inches from his hands. That can leave your hands sore for a week.
OUT OF RETIREMENT: Go back there. Every pitcher including our starters have rockets hit at times. I guess it was just smoke and mirrors that he won the Pitcher of the Year in the minors, too. It’s amazing that some people will put him down and don’t Moylan who is basically the same pitcher.
