nah, my perception is longer than 10 days.

We’ll score 8 here, 9 there, then 0 or 1 or 2 for 3 or 4 days, then maybe a 5 spot, then some more 2 run games. Average number of runs is somewhat meaningless to me because your average can be bumped up so much by one huge game.

This coming week, we could easily score, say, 7 runs in 4 games….wouldn’t surprise me one bit. We might score 20 runs in those 4 games but if 12 come in one game?

Anyway…..I do know we’re a pretty darn good team, and if we could somehow manage to go on a consistent run with our bats while holding the line with our pitching, we’re gonna be dang dangerous down the stretch. Problem is that word – if.

Ok, so just for argument’s sake. If you have a better chance of winning the wild card game with Medlen pitching or a better chance of winning the 1st round series with Medlen starting game 1, do you risk the wild card game and have Medlen pitch game 1 of the opening series? – MFin04

The gamblers question. I really think that Fredi and the Braves will spin it some way that gets Hudson the W/C game and if the good Hudson shows up and the Braves pull off a victory then they can have Meds for games 1 and 5. That sounds pretty good.

However, I think it’s just too much of a gamble in a “win or go home” game. Personally I would give Meds the ball in that game.

The Curley W’s are gonna take this collection of Stiffs to the Woodshed this weekend, Bank On It

Yeah, Okay. I’ll also take your Huddy vs. Medlen comparison with a grain of salt. (not that I don’t agree with you on having Medlen start)

I believe Game 1 of the “Real Playoffs” for the #1 seed is Sunday, October 7th in the home town of the Coin Flip game winner.

Does Anyone know the start time of that stupid WC elimination Game?

A 4pm Start on a Friday vs a 7pm start will make a huge difference in attendance….

Geez! What is it, music day or something. Poison, Tom Petty. Not that there’s anything wrong with either. BTW, if you want to sound like Mr Petty, simply pinch your nose while you sing…..it works.
Braves won because they earned it. Mistakes are made in just about every game…the key is putting yourself in position to win. They did, and they won. End of Story.
I didn’t think that two teams from the same division were allowed to meet in the NLDS, but the new WC format may have changed that.

His WPTWPHT5 stat if you will.

Another stat? Geez, I don’t mind the sabermetric stuff, but still… ;)

8 teams make it, each league.

Closer and closer to the irrelevance that is the NBA… can’t wait to watch a playoff featuring a team with 75 wins on the season.

And I see that Buffet Brian has added another ailment to his expanding list of excuses for becoming horrible the last 14 months….

I’m not being very nice here. Sorry.

George – Last night you said we wouldn’t win the “play-in” game unless Medlen pitches it. So Huddy and Minor have no chance…is that it? I guess I missed the fact that Medlin has 83 wins this season.
You would have a lot more credibility if…well, if you had more credibility.

Or, “We lost it more than they won it”. …scoots

I agree, they did lose it more than we won it. all three games turned on bad plays they made.
Not sure that is necessarily a bad thing though, if it showed a bit of choke

Average number of runs is somewhat meaningless to me because your average can be bumped up so much by one huge game.

Which is why I’ve tried (and tried and tried, LOL) to show that the frequency of games in which they scored four or more was very high.

And, in fact, in June, July, and August, I saw very few instances in which they scored fewer than 4 runs for as many as two games in a row, let alone your “3 or 4 days”. They did have the losing streak in May when they couldn’t buy a run scored, but other than that? Not so much.

Sepetember has been a different story, in that they have more games scoring fewer than four than games scoring four or more. But they cranked out five in each of the last two games, so maybe that malaise is over.

Just as it was over on May 29, when the team proceeded score four or more runs in 18 of their next 26 games.

oh no I totally get the 8 team allowing 75 teams to get in…….but it’s the direction they eventually will go to. People want more, baseball would be a tough bet to install a bye for the top teams if they allowed 6 to make it. Might as well have an exciting round. To be honest if you look at it this year, the Nats or Reds could very well have played the Phillies……..as a number 8. That wouldn’t exactly be the NBA situation where there are 4 teams all eyar battling for the title and all 4 teams end up in the final 4.

Braves swept the Nats. Braves 9-3 in last 12 vs Phillies. Braves swept by (a hot) Brewers team. Nats 5-1 vs Phillies last 6 games. Phillies 1-3 vs ASTROS.

It’s BASEBALL, folks….not football. If you don’t understand that, you don’t get it.

Desmond was interviewed after one of the games (can’t remember which), and some reporter asked if it felt like a “playoff atmosphere”, and his reply was along the lines of “To be honest with you, no.”

I remember thinking, “How would Ian Desmond know anything about ‘playoff atmosphere’?”

Sabremetrics or old school…Most important stat in baseball…WINS. Wins…no matter how you get them…pitchi8ng, hitting, defense, luck…it’s still all about wins.

Agree. I would rather see a game where the Braves get an unearned run the in the first inning, go 0-115 with runners in scoring position but win the game 1-0 than see them lose 20-19.

Since it’s baseball and most of us can’t possibly understand much at all about it, what the hell difference does it make what happens, if we watch, if we care or don’t care, who plays, who sits, who pitches, who doesn’t, whether anyone even bothers going to the game…..

It’s all random, uncontrollable baseball fate.

And for all of the accolades about Zimmerman’s glove, I thought he looked especially bad.

And I remember now, it was after the Friday game re Desmond. He said that if he had taken the time to plant, Simmons would have already popped up from the slide and been celebrating. I don’t know if that’s quite correct, but that’s the way he said he saw it.

Medlen will deserve to be booed and boeed lustily if he chokes on October 5th, which he likely won’t because it will be Hudson gagging it away on the mound instead.

Supposed Medlen had started from day one like Strasberg….and as DOB showed us, we’re in a dead heat with the Nats since the break….

Had Medlen been in there from the get go then maybe the difference would have brought us even with them now…..

Would both Medlen and Strasberg be shut down now?
